More memory in the US HD2 - Answer from HTC!!! - HD2 General

I posted the message to them, and this was their reply:
"Dear Mr. Koop, Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center.
Your questions and suggestions are important to us and we do all that we can to provide you with an excellent service.
You recently wrote us about an issue with your HTC HD2.
The US HD2 devices that have more memory are T-mobile branded devices.
T-mobile has chosen to upgrade the devices with more memory.
This is not an option HTC is providing. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Best regards, Ginette P HTC"
I wonder how easy/hard it would be to do the same to ours???

Old news. but thanks for sharing.

This isn't true and they know.
As you see, the extra RAM can be unlocked on the European HTC HD2.

Well, there are two kinds of memory, yes? Read Only Memory, and Random-access Memory. The T-Mobile Hd2 Internal Memory: ROM 1GB; RAM 576MB.
So, technically I do not think you can accuse HTC of being not factual in their reply. As far as I am aware, the search for 1GB of ROM on the European and Asian HD2 has not been successful.
I have seen nothing that has proven to me that the HTC branded HD2s have 1GB ROM.

*confuzed*... So, the European HD2 DOES have 576MB RAM, rite? Is there an easy way (as in, not flashing a new ROM... Quite happy with my T-Mobile ROM...) to enable this?

It's nice that you guys are so envious of us in the US, who have yet to even get the HD2..

You have to flash a different radio. Searching XDA-Developers will give you plenty of answers.

Do a search on some of the threads concerning reactions to the T-Mobile HD2 specs. The posts can be quite amusing and infuriating to read. Some of us who state that you got what you paid for have been unpopular on some of these threads.

You have to flash both a ROM AND a radio that supports this. It will not work with any official ROM that's been released so far.

I'm hoping for these posts to entertain me until I finally have the US HD2 in my hands.. with MORE RAM/ROM or RAMAROM or ROMARAM.
Then by the end of the year, there'll be posts about the US not getting the HD3 while everybody gets it..

SIM Looked as well?

Can I flash my Asian HD2 with a TMUS 2.02 ROM and use a European Sim, or will it then be looked to T-Mobile sim's?

Yup, and so goes the lives of gluttonous geeks, once cycle after another. It is just too bad that some people get their knickers all tied up in a knot when they think they do not have the very best and the latest.

No This can not be done.

changing rom is totally un connected to the sim being network locked, so as you found out changing rom does not unlock the phone.

Unless you are intent on running many memory heavy apps at the same time, the extra RAM is pretty much unnecessary.
I run lots of programs- many of them quite heavy on RAM, but usually close one before opening another, and I've never run below 100MB free RAM, even with iGO8 running minimised.
Now, the ROM is a different matter- but little chance we will see any more without serious pruning to the ROM itself.
So if you're happy with the ROM you are on, stick with it!

HD2 specs removed from HTC US Web site

This page http://www.htc.com/us/products#/?view=0-21&sort=0 had link to HD2 US version specs, now it is gone.
(I guess now that European version was found to "supposedly" have 576MB ROM, they need to update the specs for the US version to 1GB ROM /2GB RAM so it can run WinMo 7 even better )

lol wll you may actually be on to something. If T-Mobile USA is playing more for a better HD2 that the cat is out of the bag, they know they are paying more for nothing since its being shown the device already has the RAM, maybe even the ROM who knows.

i have seen a couple of unboxing videos o us hd2. they say 1g rom 1g ram. not sure abt the ram but the rom thng is what matters. believe me ull need every mb in that rom. only problem with my hd2 is that i always have to look out for not running out of space. its hilariously frustrating. go for the US one.

It's not like an iPhone - there's a slot under the back cover where you can put your own storage cards in. I've got 16GB in mine and I've had it for nearly 5 months and still have lots of space left on both the SD card and the phone memory!
forgot to mention that although u have 512 mb rom on the non us hd2, with the preinstalled system nd software on it, u start with only approx 140 mb of free space! now if u thnk thts enough, just try it.

Oh that's plenty. You just need to use common sense when installing things that don't need to be on the phone memory. That's difficult for some, and they don't understand so blame "low memory" problems, despite the fact that it's normal for WM devices and has been for years.
Also, with the ability to do what I want to my phone, unlike some other popular devices on the market, I can remove things that I don't want and get lots more than 140MB free on my device.
It's really up to you and your own personal capabilities and understanding as to what you do with it, just like most devices.

the point here is that tmouk is a different model than the tmous. the radio, rom sizes and base drivers will be the 1.x series and not the 2.x series the tmous device needs.

Because most people don't read. They don't actually know that they are risking it (even though most tutorials in both HD2 sections state in bold red letters to make sure that the device type is the correct one.

Sometimes people need to be told because they are unable to learn the basics before "trying stuff" from an "Developers" website.
I know they should be doing the research but it only takes a line of text to clear it up. I know it's can be quite daunting when you first hit the site and trying to find out exactly the answer to your question takes time.

Htc pro three

I got an HTC PRO THREE, the Pre Release version of HTC HD2.
It only has 320MB of RAM, and that's the only difference with the official HD2. I wonder if anyone there who also happens to have this device and unlocked the RAM to 576MB... i have tried the various/required Radios and various cooked and official ROMS and still has 320MB.
Does that mean hardware-wise, the only RAM i got is 320MB?
But i have read somewhere here, that on a certain rom, the HTC PRO THREE displays 340MB which makes a 20MB difference with the pre-released ROM, which seems to me that this HTC PRO THREE, has more than 320MB, since it displays 340MB on a non- pre release ROM.
Thanks in advance for the help.

So there is no chance hacking or unlocking the hidden ram if there's any?
The thing is, someone said that the pre release device was flashed by a certain rom, and was able to display 340mb ram on it, so meaning, if its true, there is more than 320mb of rams on this pre release version of HD2.
I just hope someone will clear this all to me. Thanks for the participation guys!

It might be what you said. The T8585 has just one hardware version providing a 576 Mb memory at all. So this fact sounds weird as well as the ROM should have less memory allocation, make sure either you didn't get a damaged device or somebody badly flashed ROM on it or the flash spoiled some hardware parts........
Anyway, try flashing a HSPL (the most updated) on it, get the ROM you like the most from the Web and see how it goes......... Bless you

[Q] I wanna sell an Hd2 prototype I have...

Hi,
I am not new here, just never posted..
I own a what I found out to be the HD2 protorype, called the HTC PRO.THREE
It's all functional, and all the hardware and processor is the same as the regular HD2 accept for one thing... it has only 320Mb ROM.
The rest is exactly the same as the rest of the HD2's, works with all the ROM's and what not.
I have done a little research and found that there were only 500 made and scattered around the world as BETA TESTERS... I bought it without even knowing it was so "special".
Now I need to sell it since I got a T-Mobile HD2.
Do you think it being a prototype is some sort of added value for it?
lets assume that most of these are no longer among the livng...
anyone wanna buy it? how much should I ask for it?
Not saying you are lieing so please do not take it that way. But it would be a good idea to post some pics of the HD2 so everyone her can see it is a real HD2. There is just too many HD2 clones floating around and being sold out there these days.
If it is a prototype HD2 as you say it may or may nit increase the value as the T-Mobile and regular HD2s have more more MB for ROM then your HD2. But then again if you find a avid phone collector or a developer that is interested in it you might get a little more for the HD2. Just fpoer my personal interest I am going to google your HD2 model number you provided to see what I find.
Best of luck selling it.
Edit: Ok seems like you are dead on with the model name of the prototype HD2. Here is a link that I pulled up on it if any one wants to check it out. I would still post pics of your HD2 to calm any fears anyone might have that is interested in purchasing your HD2.
I don't think it's worth more because it was a prototype of special, maybe if it was an iPhone I could see it.
I do think it's cool as hell though and would be cool to have one, I just wouldn't pay more than like $100 or so to get a device with 320mb ROM when I have the exact same one with 1gb ROM.
clone?
Maybe it is simply a clone.

Hej,
Indeed I did brick one. And got a new one and sold the new one here on xda.
The prototype doesnt have that much of a big value cause it doesnt run current roms that good.
So if you want to sell it, I would offer around $100. The one I sold like half year ago was $170 inc shipping.
So let me know what you think.

Hey xmoo with it being the prototype/test device, does that that mean you can flash any radio version to it without bricking it? And out of curiosity how did you brick the one you had?
When I had mine. There was no HSPL or the Radio upgrade from HTC
The phone came shipped with mfg spl 0.67 plus radio 1.01.
So I wasnt able to update the rom and bricked it trying to drop SPL. Cause the radio and spl didnt allow higher version roms.
You can flash all signed and unsigned official hd2 roms. So no custom.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
i have dutty's rom installed right now
i have had several different ones before that.
i will have to pass on 4he 100$, will use it as a media center in the car instead...and a gps!
Enjoy!
