battery time just fell off - Hero CDMA General

without doing anything new my battery time just droped off the face of the earth.. its down about 75%. i was getting a full day mixed use now all of a suden im getting 6-8 hours with just a few phone calls.
my awake time is at 16%
I havent done anything new that i can think of.
im using (and have been for awhile) the mugen 1800 extended battery.
trying to think what might be doing it and cant come up with anything i havnt found in the forums already.

you probably downloaded some app that is running in the background continuously. check with a task manager to see what's running, and then try uninstalling some recent apps to test it out.

thats what i was thinking but i cant find anything new running with the task manager

Could just be a bad battery? I'm having same problem, maybe worse with stock battery. I went from 100% down to 15 in like 5 hours just reading my RSS feeds every hour or so. I think I may have fried my battery using it to tether for excessively long periods.
You're not using your phone to tether are you?

Mine is way down this week too. Initially I thought it was Swype, but not so sure anymore because no other users are reporting problems.

Are you using Modaco's rom and kernel ? or any new kernel for that matter? Ever since I switched kernels my battery hasn't made it through the day.

I'm using gbhil's custom kernel and seeing BETTER battery life when used with setCPU (using ondemand setting with 'standby/sleep' profile turned on, and set to 160/480).

No I'm not.. Turned a few more newer apps off and still no good today.. I was at 5% batt left after 9 hours with about 10 minutes web browsing (not wifi) 4 or 5 text messages and about 45 minutes talk time. That's down about 90% from were I was a week ago .

I managed to narrow my problem down to the Taskiller widget. Removed the widget (still running the app full time) and all is well.

Last night I rolled back to before I used a custom Kernel. I rather battery life over speed. I need my phone to last from 6am to at the very least 7pm. I think once people get over the performance boost, we'll see a lot more posts relating to battery issues.

might be that too, i hope not as i love that keyboard. just having it installed shouldn't drain the battery, should it? im on day 2 with the custom kernel and i too noticed more battery drain. at 1pm my hero was fully charged. i only played a bit with the phone and made two short calls and it's down to 86% already at 4pm. i want to roll back but i do like the speed of the new kernel. ill see how it does tonight.

Yeah going back to regular input sucks. Swype was only some leaked beta version, we don't really have right to complain; however, I bet their end product will be much better. I just hope they'll release it as an app and not as part of custom Android phone so we can get it sooner.

figured I woud resurect this thread rather than start a new one.
yesterday I decided to RUU my phone to pull the completely stock apks out of it. after I did that I restored my backup of fresh 1.1 with gbhils kernel and now I am at 90% awake time spare parts shows that "android system" as something keeping it awake. any suggestions on what this could be? could it have something to do with restoring the back up with the kernel over stock without a wipe?

Battery problems? Google lies?

So I found this great app that tells me how much life I have left on my battery. I find that with my phone I can hardly go pass 16 hours with MODERATE use yet everyone here is bragging about easily passing 30hrs with HEAVY use. So I'm asking you guys, to please, download this app called BatteryTime Lite and post your pics or info here. Lets compare the results. Remember to set the level to 100% as shown in my pic below..

No, stock. Why you ask?
i read somewhere that Stock and Cyanogen's ROM have display consuming a lot of battery... its fixed on enomther's and modaco's desire port...
On Cyanogen and Stock, Display consumes ~60% battery while on Enomther's and MoDaCo's desire port, display consumes 15~20% battery...

Thats what I herd too..thats why I'm also calling google a lier about saying this thing lasts 20hours with audio playback.
I'm curious, do they see a big improvement in battery when the display using 15-20% battery or its just numbers that were out a place to begin with?
I have identical figures. That combined with picking the N1 from a list says to me that these are just database figures rather than real world ones for your handset.
Root your phone and then install cyanogenmod and one of the under volted kernels. I usually get 24 - 30 hours battery life.
I just ran a test. I left the mp3 player on all night turn all the way on repeat. SO far after 8hrs of playing I was at 52%. If I'm correct, I just might be able to hit 18hrs...MMMM

No problems at all? no 3g issues?, battery only lasting a day or half? or touch screen issues?
Ok after 100% charge..the app is telling me that my phone will last 10hr:48min with moderate use....anyone thinking that the F on my P/N might mean battery sucker..
i have the exact same numbers as you. if you choose other instead of the phone type it asks you to enter your battery's info so it sounds like it only goes by the type of battery anyway. Not actual usage specific to your phone
My phone ends in an F as well. My battery life SUCKS right now. I have tried everything. The weird thing is it was good until I rooted my phone and applied Cyanogen rom. I've tried .2 and .3 for the Cyan rom's, all with bad battery life. I've tried wiping batterystats, fulling draining battery then recharging, task killer to wipe anything in the background, I even have a 2nd battery. No luck. I've also tried the undervolted kernal, but I didn't really notice a difference with it. (Only tried it for about a day so)
Bottom line though, something is going on. Something (I suspect with Cyan's roms) is killing battery life for some of us. I just wish I could figure out what it is.

Any chance you're using Weatherbug or Weatherbug elite (based on your SS)? After installing weatherbug and using the widget I got absolutely ABYSMAL battery life. I've purchased several other weather widgets and none had the effect that Weatherbug did for some reason. I removed it and battery life is back to normal again (moderate use and plenty of battery at the end of the day).

How long your battery lasts definitely depends on the apps youre using, I use my phone a lot, probably more than the average user, although i dont make many calls. My phone will easily last from when I leave my house around 530am till 11pm or so when I go to bed. I do use a task manager to kill stuff I dont need running every once in a while, I think it really just depends on how you use it. I use it for a lot of texting, surfing and news, and Pandora at work. I use wifi when im at home although ive never noticed it eating my battery. Yesterday I was playing Pandora over bluetooth on 3G for a little over 3 hours and it only took 5% of my battery. Im on Cyanogen 5.0.5.3, if that matters. With all that said I rarely go all day without charging it, I usually plug it in a bit at work and plug it in when I get home, but if I dont for whatever reason it easily lasts my whole day.

no battery life with the 2.2 update

My battery made it to 1:00 o'clock today with the new 2.2 update that i did last night. It normally lasts till 11 - 12 at night. Whats up with that?
FYI - All the same apps, widgets, and settings
**UPDATE**
Doing a factory reset fixed the problem for me!!

Strange, I'm sitting at 75% after 5 hours off the charger and using it for moderate text usage (probably less than 80 messages today). Usually around this time it's sitting closer to 60%.
i have the .3 update and went from about 24 hours to about 8-10 hours. Battery life cut in half. My friend who has .3 is having same issue too. So much for increasing battery life.

You gave us zero information to help you. So thus, you will not get any help.
There are about a billion threads on here about battery life and how to tweak it. When you flashed 2.2 you will need to do those steps again.
yeah some people are reporting bad battery life after update. most people i know are on .3. don't know if .6 fixes this hopefully we get update soon
I did a test last night. Dropped 13% between 1130 and 3:30am With wifi on (got up cause of baby), then only 10% between 330 and 8am with wifi off. So a drop of only 23% overnight.
That's with one exchange account, one gmail account (both syncing as items arrive), htc news set to not sync, but newsdesk and feedr both syncing. Facebook for htc set to sync contacts only.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I had the same issue on all 2.2 ROMs I tried.. i am now going through the apps one at a time to see which one is the issue.
right now I am 7 hours in and sitting at 75% very light use ( read about 7 emails, 5 new articles and little to no Web surfing). installed 10s so far other than the standard with Fresh latest ROM that is.
I've actually had very good battery life, I'm running the .3 release. Battery life for me has been very comparable to running Baked Snack 9.6, with its underclocking/undervolting power save features. Moderate use of the phone for 8 hours (wifi, browsing websites here and there, one navigation route, texting, bunch of short phone calls, playing some games), my battery was around 65 or so, same as I had before for similar usage.
I did do a full wipe though, and haven't calibrated my battery since updating.

This is not directed at you personally, but at the words you chose to use:
I am sick and tired of "tweaks and settings and cutting things off." I used them and got over 30 hours on both DamageControl and Fresh.
I paid Sprint/HTC good money for this awesome phone (and am committed to pay them a whole lot more over the course of the next 22 months).
While I can understand the 4G thing, why should I have to cut off Data-WiFi-Bluetooth, power down the CPU, not use it a lot in order to get... in short, drive it like a Toyota Prius when then phone is billed as a Maserati? Why should I have to try out this app and that app(Overclock widget, SetCPU, System Manager, Task Killer, Autostarts etc which all use battery too) in order to get the phone to do what it should have done on June 4, 2010?
Most of the battery draining apps and widgets come pre-loaded with sense (i.e. the Favorite widget, Friendstream etc). Why should I have to resort to rooting my phone or not using it in order to get the thing to last all day?
I'm keeping my EVO cause I love the device, but maybe Sprint/HTC need a little of the medicine that Jobs/Apple is getting in the form of lawsuits due to over-promising/under-delivering.
/off_my_soap_box
You should send that rant to HTC and Sprint... I think we all stand behind you on that one.
there are lots of reasons a battery might not last. there are way to many tweaks out there which is why you have to do it yourself.
First set the phone up like you normally have it and test the battery life. if you can live with it your good. if not start looking at the settings. Read the tweaks but don't just take them as golden as everyone is different and uses their phone different. Ask yourself if you real need that setting. (I like my screen time out at 2 min. do I need it NO 1 min is fine). When done with the settings move to the apps. load the flat ROM no apps and run for a hour and track your battery life. then add the apps 1 at a time or in small groups and let run an hour and track. there are was if find what apps are using the CPU or Battery but many do this normally and yet don't effect the battery much. Only way i have found is old school add them one at a time. When you find a bad one decide if you need it or can find a replacement.
I am done with Sense as Launcher Pro Plus is awesome and now with the only Widget I was missing (Calendar). Once I done going through my app list I will create a new thread in General to list the bad application I found unless someone else has or does before I done that is.
From what I have gathered from using .3 that apps auto sync/update on their own now with "always on mobile data" turned off. if you use advanced task killer, do a kill of all apps then turn the screen off. If you wait for a few minutes and turn the screen back on you will notice that apps like news, messages, Twitter, Facebook clock, weather and others will be active. From what I gather the decrease in battery life is from apps like those will send/receive data on 2.2 while on 2.1 apps would not update/sync until you manually refreshed or opened the app, as long as you didn't have "always on mobile data" enabled.
Edit: this reason is why I uninstalled fring. Just too bad I cannot uninstalled qik.

It is a mini-computer. You don't use it like a "phone" anymore. You shouldn't expect more than 15-20 hours on it. Do you get angry when your laptop runs out of life after 5-6 hours? If you don't want to do tweaks, then don't. Keep a micro-USB at your desk at work and charge it there. I, myself, enjoy rooting so I don't mind tweaking it. I also get 30 hours of life on it due to this. If you don't like to do that, you get what you put into it.

Again, you have unrealistic expectations for a smart phone it seems. All I have is Set CPU running on my phone with Fresh 3.0.1 and works just fine. I still use my phone like a "Maserati", it just lowers the CPU when the screen is powered off. That is like saying you want your car to idle when you get home at night until the next morning. It doesn't change how you drive it, just how you store it in the garage.

You don't have to use them though. You can remove friendstream and go with either the twitter or FB update app or go without either and just check facebook like anyone else. As far as favorites go, you don't have to use that either. You can just make shortcuts to each person's phone number on that same screen if you think that is sucking all your battery life. There are always other options or fixes, but again you expect the phone to come out of the box perfect without any customization. You are getting away from what Android really is. Something tells me the Iphone would have been more your liking since it is built around lack of true customization. This isn't a rip, but just saying if you want cookie cutter phone reliability, it is hard to beat Apple. If you want the ability to tinker with the phone, the power to change things, and the power to make your phone yours, then that is more Android.

I can understand your frustration, but nothing was ever promised to us on purchase. I don't remember anywhere seeing something saying the battery would last 30+ hours out of the box. Apple had an actual structural issue with their phone, that is why they had the lawsuits and PR nightmare. This is just the phone doing what most would probably expect(at least anyone who had a G1 or Hero or any of the earlier Android phones). You love the device enough to keep it even with your frustration, something tells me it works quite well for you. But I have yet to see any over-promising/under-delivering on the Evo myself.
And no, I don't work for Sprint or HTC. And no offense meant to you as a person, just I didn't understand your motives on your frustration. Guess we will have different opinions on the Evo so far.

I had the same battery problem after updating to 2.2. After 3 hours my battery was at 50%. Normally it'd be at 50% after 9 to 10 hours of usage.
I did find that some settings had been reset. Once I turned off all the crap syncing, gtalk logging in, Sprint Zone, etc my battery usage has seemed to flatten out.
I made it an hour and only dropped 2% which is much more like it. This is all with very little usage going on.
Buy a new battery! Best solution!

How I got 20+ hours of battery

Im able to run my phone for over 20 hours with sync and data on.
How I managed it:
1. Deleted almost every app
2. Flashed 8/25
3. Switched to Launcher Pro
4. Go to CyanogenMod Settings>User Interface> Automatic Backlight> Enable
5. Go to Spare Parts> End Button behavior > Set Go to Sleep
5. Wiped dalvik cache
6. Recharged to full
7. While at 100% charging, wiped battery stats
8. Unplug and let the phone drain to 0% (let it turn off)
9. Recharge and enojoy
If succesfull backup
Im using the stock kerned with NO battery tweak. I tried it but since I didnt see any improvement I took it out. 8/25 is amazingly fast with launcher Pro so I dont see the point in changing anything else to my Hero. Now I only install Apps that I really want or that wont keep my phone awake. I use pure calendar, handcent, beautiful widgets...stuff like that
Now after 10 months of use im really enjoying my HERO. I hope this helps those of you that are trying to improve your battery life.

How I got 70+ hours of battery
1. Used CM6 Nightly
2. Used TweakTool(still in development http://tweaktool.com but it is the same as collin_ph's battery tweak essentially)
3. Used Decad3nce's experimental BFS kernel
4. Left 3g off unless I needed it
5. ????
6. PROFIT
I have 3g on all the time
The best I have pulled on my phone was 32 hours with twenty percent left this was with light to avg use with 3g turned off, unless o needed it....

Why? You can use an app like JuiceDefender to set it to turn on every 5 or 10 minutes to allow updates and set it to keep 3g on when the screen is on, could save you some battery

Juice defender destroyed my phones battery life, even when I configured it all, it just drained, drained, drained.
Auto brightness is a waste of battery to me, i set it to 30% and forget it.
My phone makes it through the day, thats all I need. About 30% at 10 pm, off the charger at 7am.

Same here. With Juice Defender I was lucky if my charge held through my lunch break at work.
The biggest battery save for me is to turn off 3G until I have to use it. By the time I go to bed I still have 40-50 percent charge on my phone.
Tried juice defender for around 5 hours and didn't work. At 30% said I had 2 more hours left. During the first hour after setup it drained 9%. That's a lot. Uninstalled

strange I've always had good luck with juice defender. Lately though with how well cm6 is on the battery I've been setting juice defender to only shut off 3g when the screens off and turn it on every hour for 5 minutes to update. My batter life is pretty amazing right now.

Made a handful of phone calls lasting about 10 minutes each. i have 16/hrs 49/min since unplugged right now and im at 77%. I must be doing something different cuz i can have my phone off the charger for around 2 days and still have about 20% left before i charge it.

Interesting. I want in! Love playing with new things and tweaking, sounds like your compiling all the best parts of the best battery saving tweaks. Definitely gonna keep an eye on this.

Well really it's more of an upgraded version of the battery tweak featuring a gui and some other new things.

Can't wait to try it! I am hard (IMO) on my phone 4-5hrs.talking maybe more 5-10 texts and my music running almost all day tho it switches off on a call,m lucky if I get 6-7 hrs out of it. I am in a truck all day, so charging is no problem. Thanks for hard work!
I'm currently sitting at 50% after 26 hours of battery life and medium usage... CM6RC1, stock kernel and collins_ph tweak

Well fear not citizens, for soon, tweaktool will be released (hopefully soon, depends on how much time i have laying around to program it) and will work for any phone, any rom, etc. Also gonna have new features eventually like 3g off when screen off, and a few other things, spread the word http://tweaktool.com

battery drains.. sort of

Does anybody know sone work around regarding this? Because its starting to annoy me, have you ever experienced when you are using your device, the battery warning suddenly pops up and says that you must charge already and the battery percentage suddenly changes to 3% eventhough awhile ago there is still 50% left, but when you reboot it chages back to 50%, what could be a possible culprit, this happens a few times to me a day and im tired of rebooting everytimethe warning pos up.
Any advice is appreaciated
Same experience. I posted this a while ago but no solution.

well this isnt an acutal solution but have you tried actually draining your battery down to 3% recently? By doing that you are "calibrating" the battery life sensor and maybe that will cause this issue to occur less frequently?
This happened to me once so I did that and havent had a problem since. Hopefully it works for you!
but how do you power it on if thinks the battery is critical
Somehow if ido a reboot it just goes back to normal..maybesomething is messing up with the battery sensors,i did let it drain but some how it still the same, i had read on a similar thread about a bump charge or something maybe i could try that and lets see from there
on verizon tab SCH-I800 - does the same thing ... mine seems to happen around 33% though. (i thought it was something with the 33% .. since it would drop down to 3%) ..
i think samsung should really push out an update to address some of the glitches in these tabs..
Tried the recalibration thing. Problem still exists.

thats a similar issue i get,. Yes i tried the recalibration charge also and still having the problem, i did a factory reset also and it did nothing.. Im really desperate for some fixes..
Mine jumps from 15% to 3%. Quite annoying, I assumed that it is because it is poorly calibrated and so it doesn't realise its actually critical until its 15%.
I tried calibrating it by running it until it switches off, and then fully charging. However, that didn't work.
If in reality the battery is at 15%, then its a pretty bad software bug.
Maybe deleting the battery stats solves the problem?
I think its getting worse on mine now after a full charge after i remoce the charge around 2min. It says 3% again what the heck?

Tried flashing with another rom but no help. Start to wonder if this is hardware related....
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
try to flash it with rotohammer rom JHA/JMC it might fix the issue. My problem with GT was battery draining too quickly but after flashing it's much better now.

This worked for me too, however I had to do it 2 or 3 times. I haven't had any problems since.
I think i sorted it out also by calibrating battery,i removed the battery stats using the root explorer, now im still observing the progress
Brand new sprint tab, only installed the over clock kernel first week i got the.
Today, which would be week 3, i experienced the 35% to 3% drop instantaneousness..... So, im draining the battery, and hopefully doing a full recharge...

I also have a sprint tab and it is three months old. I have not put another rom on it, only rooted it. It also has developed this battery problem recently. It will go from 53 to 3 all of the sudden.

Not too sure what's the issue but it does sound like a program consuming too much CPU or the battery calibration issue.
Two Active topics discussing the same..... Anyway, I posted in the other topic my answer.

Losing Battery life pretty fast now.. why?

I flashed my vibrant to bionix 1.3.1 a while back, pretty much a week after is was released. Its been great up to about 2-3 days ago. I had a full charge at work at today around 2 pm, I got home and checked the battery life at around 6 pm it was at 72%. I sent out about 4 texts lastnight. Got up this morning is was at 44%. I used to get about 2-3 days out of light use. It will probably be dead by 2 pm again today.
What gives?
Network data off -
Black background -
Brightness is the lowest -
Idk maybe randomly reading it wrong? P.s. Why dont people charge their phones at night?!?!? Thats what I do
Oh i do as well usually. But like i said, the battery is starting to drop so fast that by lunch that day it was already at like 49%. By 2 pm is was full and so on. I just dont understand why its dropping so fast thats all.
Might have something to do with the battery
Check what's running in the background. The other night I was just using the phone normally and put it to sleep, checked it a few times and it was dropping 1% every 15 minutes or so. Noticed it kept checking into something. VVM and Market Checkin was running, killed it and it seemed to help. Also discovered (might not be true) that the New MAPS and GMAIL apps constantly check in and drain the battery after removing the updates phone seems to last longer/as it did before..:/
oo maybe that might be it. I Just updated a boat load of my apps a few days ago. P.s. how do you remove just the update?

WIDGETS IN BACKGROUND ON DEKTOP ? SHUT THEM OFF

REMOVE WI-FI CALLIN
IN GALAXY S TUNER (APP FROM MARKET ) PUT MEMORY MANAGEMENT ON AGRESSIVE
those are just a few tips , if You didn't install anything that would change Your battery behavior TRY TO CHARGE YOUR PHONE IN WALL OUTLET INSTEAD OF COMUPUER USB ,also did You flash any updates to Bionix that got released because of so some of them contain update to modem so if previous bionix was on JL4 modem which is fast and battery savy new update might off reflashed your modem to newer one as fast as old but with worst battery . good luck i can give u million tips how to save juice , oh btw :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931351
also clean up Your battery stats in clockwork and recharge it with wall outlet Your battery might be recalibrated and when it shows 2% left u might have 10 really instead that's why clean battery stats and recharge.
or sadlly Your battery cant hold the juice anymore because it was recharged to zero few times too many , sorry
This is crazy. I just came to xda to post my bionix 1.3.1 battery problem. I been running it for a week and no issues. But this morning I took the phone off the charger and within 10 minutes of using it I was down to 85%. Usually after my morning usage I'd be around 93-95%. But that's not the issue I wanted to post.
I was trying to wait for Black Ice since Frost had the best battery life of any rom I've tried...just not feeling the Frost theme. So I started to download the Frost zip & got the phone on the charger.
Even after I put it back on the charger my battery life kept going down. Plugged it in at 85% and a few minutes later I noticed it was at 83%

Just go to the market, tap menu and then go to DOWNLOADS
look for GMAIL and MAPS, click on them and then where it says "Uninstall update" you want to click that. Done.
truee u might want to disable location access if its on too
if u updated ,find out which modem the previous rom u ran and reflash it to the modem u had before.
I had this problem with nero after a month of use. Wipe battery stats when the battery is fully drained. Fixed my battery problems.

Thx guys, ill wipe the battery stats and unistall the updates.
Does USB debug consume power?
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.

I have the same problem. I have system panel running all the time. When I sleep, the phone sleeps too and uses about 1% of battery per hour. But when im actually using the phone, even if the use is minimal like sending a few texts etc. The battery consumption is far greater than the use. Top apps in system panel monitoring is usually system process and system itself. How do I correct this issue?

I had a issue a while back. What I did to fix it is go with the standard rom. Then slowly I would put one or 2 apps back on. After a day or so I found out which one was to blame and got rid of it.
