I'm looking for some cabs:
1. A cab that will allow me to select more than one file to copy/cut/paste
2. How to make the lists in folders smaller (as in the Energy Roms)
That's it...unfortunately, don't know their names-hence my issue in finding them.
Currently running Xanny Evo 17b

1. You mean like a file explorer which allows you to select one than one file?
Resco explorer (3rd party app), file explorer 2 and I think total commander and basic file explorer on most roms also does this
2. Some file explorers you can change view in options or do you mean amount of files in programs etc. If the latter you create more folders like 'tweaks' etc in /windows/start menu/programs and then move your desired file into this folder
Thanks, but let me clarify...
You (and I) both use Xanny. What do you use to select more than one file in a folder (music, for example)? It's irritating copying/pasting/cutting only one file at a time.
As for #2, I would.like to get rid of the finger friendliness when listing files. With Xanny, for example, all files have a double space between them,.and the font is relatively large.(for ease of choosing). At this time, only 7 items can be seen at a time. Would like it single spaced.

Well to be honest I use Resco Explorer to select more than one file. You can either select all or use the 'multi-selection' mode. Open your folder containing music, then go to menu > edit > multi-selction mode then select the files you want before you either move, copy, run them etc
Thought i'd post in here as I'm looking for some cabs too. I've searched for 3 days and it's time to ask. Can anyone please tell me the name of the program that adds the buttons to the bottom of the home screen like this >screenshot< shows (camera, opera and comm manager buttons)? I'm sure everyone knows the name... except me.
I've searched for maxmanilla, home plugins, home buttons, sense ui, etc. and I've found pics of this all over the forums but haven't been able to find the exact name of this cab/program/plugin, without installing a whole new rom.
Cheers.

Thank you. That is exactly what I was looking for. Solved both #1 and #2. Thanks again.
With regard to stuntdouble's question: There is no cab to enable the shortcuts, you will need to update your ROM to one of the 6.5.x HTC Sense versions that have that as a feature. Look in the Roms section and pick out something that looks good to you. But don't ask which one is best, as it's all a matter of taste.

Yeah telegraph0000 is correct, you'll need to flash a wm6.5.x rom to get those buttons on the home screen.

Backup your ROM and try one for the heck of it. If you don't like it, reflash Topix and restore the backup. Nothing lost, but some quality family time...and who doesn't have that to spare
Total Command also allows multiple file selection. However I've only been able to access the feature in landscape mode. I haven't really delved into it too much.
Flip to landscape, click on "Ctrl" (a new button that appears in the toolbar) and you'll be able to select more than one file.

I see the hotvoice.exe in the /Windows directory, but it doesn't seem to run for me... nor does it show up as a valid Button assignment. It worked fine on my 8125... did Cingular not include this in the ROM?
hotvoice.exe was linked as the Record button on the 8125. I can launch Notes and voice record from there, I just wanted a more direct way to get there.
Is there a way for me to copy it from my 8125?
Thanks,

What ROM are you on? If you do not use PTT, using the leaked Cingular 2.06 ROM then you can do the following. Remap one of your buttons to the app. You must create a shortcut to it first so that it shows up in the app list when you try to remap buttons. If you do not want to change your normal buttons try Sleuth's PPTFix to use the PTT button to launch the app.
I'm still working thru the info here as a newbie to the ROMS...
My Device info says ROM 1.34.502.1, however I'm not sure that corresponds to the general #'s I see flying around (I have read the Wiki, and while there's a lot of good info, its also written with a lot of assumption that you already know a lot of the lingo)....
Anyway, I have tried linking to the app from the Programs folder..and that link does show up in the Buttons list... but I can't get the app to launch, period

OK, you've got the stock ROM, look for and install Sleuth's PTTFix, create a shotcut to Hotvoice.exe on your 8525, and map the PTT button to the hotvoice app. It will only show after creating the shortcut in \Windows.
I've installed the PTTfix and the PTT button works fine. While this gives me extra buttons, this shouldn't be needed, should it? (ie. any reason why I can't assign Record to buttons 1-4?)
But hotvoice.exe will not launch.. I cannot launch it from the file explorer either.
Given that Record does not show up in the default list of buttons (as it does on the 8125), it seems like it doesn't work, at least not in the default ROM??

Yes, you can change them to whatever you wish, I was just providing another suggestion. I prefer to leave my standard buttons as they are.
Ok, so the basic problem is that it appears that hotvoice.exe does not execute on my Hermes (regardless of button assignment)
I guess the question is whether or not it is supposed to run on my stock ROM? and/or if there is a way to add it.
Thanks,
Mike

You need a shortcut that calls MSVOICE ( I found this in one of Sleuth's threads)... See below for link to shortcut... Note: you must copy it to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and map one of your buttons 1-4 to it. I read it will not work on button 5, so if you need to launch an app that you had mapped to its original button, you can remap that to 5 if needed. Note also that you will have a Record icon in programs, it doesnt work if you try to launch it from Programs, only by assigning to a button.
Get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=31341&d=1163177903
Weird.. I thought I had tried exactly that, about 5 times
But since it ain't broke no more, I'll stop trying to fix it.

No problem, I found that the difference is in how the shorcut is made. If you look at the content by opening it with Wordpad on your PC for example... you can see differences in the shortcuts... some ppl where making shortcuts to hotvoice.exe and renaming the shortcut to Record.lnk, some were renaming wrong... but this works for sure.
hotvoice.exe not working
Mike & ercave1, I'm also looking into usign the hotvoice.exe. I have the new ROM, even downloaded the shortcut link and nothing happens. Via Resco Explorer, I first unhide the files to view hotvoice.exe. there I find the hotvoice.exe which is 3K, and hotvoice.lnk (14B) I create a new shortcut from the .exe to the start menu. Nothing happens, I used the shortcut that ercave1 recommended and nothing. Looks like the hotvoice.exe in the Cingular 8525 new ROM and perhaps original ROM does not work or is corrupted. Looking at the attributes, hotvoice.exe shows the following: Read-Only, Hidden, System, ROM. Any help would be greatly aprreciated.

How are you accessing the .lnk? Use the shortcut from the zip file.
You must place it in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs (this makes it visible in the button map app)
Then remap one of your buttons 1-4 to Record. Soft Reset.
I applied this today on my 8525 without a problem.
Yes, i unzipped the link from the file i downloaded, then i transferred it to the start menu. No luck on that. I also have a program called SKTools and there is an option to configure the 5 buttons of the 8525. It allows me to browse by file or by Alias. I noticed one of the ALIAS is :MSHOTVOICE. I tried that ALIAS along with another called :MSVOICE to no avail (I did a reset BTW). Do you have the new ROM or the original cause im not getting this hotvoice to work at all.

Don't understand what is happening I will try and create a cab to install this... I'm on the 2.06 PTT enabled ROM, but that should not matter...
Record cab
For those having problems creating the shortcut try this...
Install the CAB, then navigate to Start>Settings>Buttons then select one of the four buttons to modify and set it to Record, tap OK and test the button.
Let me know how it goes.
That fixed it for me.
Thanks.

Hi guys, I am new to this forum but have read and benefitted from some of your posts.
Zim,
Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but the Notes app is setup to do voice records on the 8525. I will grant you this... there are absolutely NO instructions about it in the manual so I had a hell of a time finding it, but through looking around I finally discovered this.
Just open Notes and then click Menu>Show Recording Toolbar. Now you can record voice records all you want and it puts them in your notes folder for review.
Then, of course, you can map any of your buttons 1-4 to the Notes app and, since you selected to show the recording toolbar, all you do is press the mapped button and then "New" and speak.
Hope this helps (someone).

cool thanks, this seemed to help.
it is odd for me the record short cut will not work directly but if map the button to it, it will work and as long as you hold the button in. it keeps recording till you are out of time.
as jwpetree said the the other way to use the recorder is to open notes 1st.
now to find a tweak to give more recording time.
Hello!
Is there any standalone cab or reg fix so you can have the name of the program under the icon in the Program tab?
EDIT: and when you go into Program from the start menu, can you move the icons in there to a specific map so you can get the program view a little more organized?
You can move all the programs around and rename the files by using total commander or resco file explorer.
I have done this to organise the folder into many sub-folders.
Thank you Dave!
Now for the name under program tabs, couple of cooked roms that have the feature in them so there should be a easy way like a cab or a reg-hack

Sorry - I meant the program view in the START menu not the TAB (you had both).
I don't now use the program TAB in TF3D as I have all the programs organised in sub-folders under windows\programs and windows\office mobile.
I use that with quick menu and it's so much faster for my many apps (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3117017&highlight=secondtoday#post3117017 - it's grown since then !!)

Hi guys,
I'm fairly new here, but I thought that I should join in on the contributions and give back to the community, because I've already had countless hours of help just by searching through the knowledge (mostly garbage though..) that can be found through the search engine! Anyhow, after through much sifting, I managed to create a nifty little tool to help you turn off your Touch HD via software. What's the purpose of this? It is simply to preserve the lifespan of your power button. For some reason, the powerbutton and volume buttons just don't seem too solid to me (mainly the powerbutton).
Enough wish-wash, let's get down to it!
What you need:
1) HTC Touch HD (It may work on any phone with a 480 x 800 layout, I'm not sure, I only had enough money to buy a single phone)
2) If you don't already have it, get Mortscript and install it onto your phone.
3) Now, download the tiny attachment and extract the "Auto Shutdown.mscr" file within it. Place this anywhere you'd like, on your Desktop for example.
Baby-Step-by-Step instructions:
1) Connect your phone to the computer. Mine is set via USB only, no active Sync. Copy/Cut the "Auto Shutdown.mscr" file to any location on the phone's storage.
2) Disconnect USB, and unplug the cable.
3) Go to File Explorer, and look for your "Auto Shutdown.mscr", wherever you placed it earlier and copy/cut the file.
4) Navigate your way to the phone's storage via File Explorer, and go to Windows > Start Menu > Programs > MortScript >
5) Paste the "Auto Shutdown.mscr" there.
6) Soft-reset.
And, that's it! I asked you to place the .mscr file inside the MortScript folder because this prevents you from accidentally pressing the file when viewing the Programs menu. If you're going to add the .mscr file to the TouchFLO shortcut list, I strongly suggest you put it all the way to the bottom to prevent accidentally presses as well. After all, upon pressing, your phone will shutdown.
Having said that, you can also now use this with Cyberon Voice Commander or Microsoft Voice Commander, so it's really quite awesome in my opinion.
If someone has already posted something like this (I don't remember seeing any when I searched though...), feel free to ignore this entire post of blabber and move along already, I can't believe you had the patience to read till this last word!
Enjoy! I know I am!
Cheers.
EDIT: I've uploaded a new file down below. Download that file instead. This will now work with any phone running WM 6.1 and higher. I am not certain if this will work on WM 6.5 based cores as I am not sure how the Shutdown process works.
I can't imagine that the power button (nor the volume buttons) will take any damage by simply pressing them. I'm doing so for five months now (pressing them often during the day) and haven't noticed any damage.
The only think to consider is the fact, that you have to press the power button on the left side. You don't need to press it hard then.
Anyway I think there are enough exe files, which will shutdown your device, so writing a MortScript isn't neccessary at all.

John,
Thanks for the input. See, I thought my power button was funky when it was only more responsive on the left side, at least now I know that the phone was made that way. To each his own I guess (I am very compulsive when it comes to the care of a new gadget, sometimes a little insane), I just got the phone like 2 days ago, so I'm still just finding my own balance on what is comfortable and preferable for me. I just thought I'd share it with you guys, that's all .
My philosophy when it comes to doing things is to do things with the least amount of resources, in this case, installing the least amount of programs. I see MortScript being very useful for me in the future in doing certain things without having to install more .exe files.
Cheers!

I honestly cannot tell if you're trying to be condescending, patronizing or what have you. If you honestly don't want to use the script, simply don't, I'm not begging you to use it. Bigdeal88,
No, you need mortscript because it is the parser. Mortscript is the program that reads and processes/parses the .mscr files. It is essentially a simple script reader.
Why do you ask? Are you not able to use Mortscript?

Ruguk,
Are you using WM 6.1? The script assumes that you have the "PowerOffWarning.exe" available in your Windows folder. I would assume that all WM 6.1 would have this file.

Hi, my version is just 6. So i guess thats why i don't have PowerOffWarning.exe in windows folder. Maybe its time to upgrade my phone or search more for a full shutdown soft.

Ruguk,
There is no need to mate. Go to your windows folder and browse the contents. I assure you, you will find something along the lines of PoweroffWarning.exe. Just keep looking. When you think you've found the right file, just try pressing on it and see if the warning window pops up. If that's the one, then you've got the right file. All you do then is open the .mscr file with notepad and modify the PowerOffWarning.exe name to the name of whatever it is that you found. It is important that you leave the formatting exactly the same as it was.
Cheers.

Still reading up on the Mortscript language, very nifty, I must say! Enjoy!
Cheers.

I had been looking for a app that could turn off the phone.
I hate having to hold the power button.

Cyberhern,
Haha, you're welcome. But if you don't mind installing a third party program and filling up the registry with an additional couple of lines, look for the PowerOptions software in the Development and Hacking section.
Cheers.

I installed the latest Energy 23569 sense standard rom last night and i'm having trouble setting things like file explorer to the top of the start menu. I could do it in 6.5 stock. Am i missing something? or do i have to do it "manually" by creating a copy of the shortcut in \windows\start menu\?
no longer works like it did in 6.5. press and hold the one you want to move, when it highlights just drag it where you want it.
so you can't move between folders in the start menu? that sorta sucks.

not sure what you mean, , , i thought u were asking about on stock roms when you press and hold an item, you can select 'move to top', and now you cant, instead you press and hold an item, then you can drag it anywhere in the list you want, not just 'move to top', , , you never mentioned anything about folders....

in WM 6.5 if you where in the tools folder, for example, press and held the icon and hit "move to top" it would move it to the top of the main start menu and not the current folder. From what you have said (and the testing i've done) it appears this can not longer be done and move to top is for the current folder only and you can't use it to push something like file explorer to the top of the main start menu but you can use it to move the shortcut to the top of the tools folder.
You follow now?

ahh gotcha. In that case browse to windows\start menu\programs\subfolder and copy the program.lnk up a level to windows\start menu\programs
however not sure if there is an explorer.lnk in there, it might be a hard coded one.
or, go into windows\ and find the explorer program, press and hold it, choose copy, go to windows\start menu, click menu - edit - paste shortcut
There is one for file explorer but the messaging one on the other hand is a problem. MS really do annoy me when they change stuff that works just fine and make it less useful. Windows vista/7 and directsound is an example. Worked just fine for years until windows vista and then they changed it to xaudio and now it doesn't work at all.

thats not MS, thats the energy rom. I have 6.5.x and all those shortcuts are still in teh main list on mine. MS and HTC get a lot of undeserved flack off people blaming them for changin this and that, when in fact its a custom rom, or a tweak they installed.

Interesting to know. Great idea too. Hide one of the most useful tools in WM (i'm ot a total commander fan. Poorly laid out and was designed to be used with a stylus).
It is a nice rom though, very fast with a nice UI that for the most part has been well thought out. It would be nice to have a version with a couple of the removed things included but i can sort that out myself. If i had the balls i would cook a rom but it sounds like a lot of effort and even more risk for a newbie like me to undertake

it doesnt have to be too daunting. More rom chefs are releasing the pre built kitchen along with the rom, which means
1 you dont have to set up a kitchen from scratch and
2 you already have a pretty nice rom to work with, not starting from a stock one.
its already had the more necessary, low level work done, it is a working cooked rom, all you do is simply turn on and off bits you dont want, (honest, its that simple) and hit build, flash the rom, see if your tweak worked, move on to the next minor change.
Once youget more confident, you can start editing the reg files directly, replace icons and such.
Dont like the chefs taskbar? turn it off, got a cab of one you like? convert it to ext and its in the kitchen, so you can cook it in.
It has the added benefit that you can cook in your most important apps, (remotetracker, resco and my reg settings for me) so if you lose it and the thief/finder hard resets it, or you crash away from home, its all still in there.
So long as you have hspl on your phone, you cant go far wrong.
Look for 'comes with kitchen' and the like in the rom thread title.
Folks, the hidden menu under the Dell EM app has been cracked open. Here is how to get to it. Its still stupid of Dell to have a convoluted way to get get to it.
1. GO to EM app on your DVP (dial ##634# - if u haven't done so to make the app appear under apps)
2. Open physical keypad
3. Double tap the blank dark area of the screen (below the MMS settings)
4. On the physical keyboard, press each of the first row buttons (qwertyuiop)
5. This should open up the advanced menu.
Same password to get to the RD Test and Protocol - *#6336#
Be careful when using the Chinese language menu's. It will make the app language as Chinese. You can always exit and come back to the app.
New features:
Nothing much except one important feature - File Browser (Windows Explorer)
Registry Editor - still doesn't work for writing and only good for reading.
How to Get to File Browser:
1. Go to RD Test. In the input box type *#6336#
This will open up RD test page.
2. Scroll to the bottom and click About EM. This will open up SORRY APPLICATION.
3. In the empty input box, type 983. This will open up the file browser.
The Explorer is so slow and might crash the app.
Note:The above steps only works for the DVP's that have the new EM App and updated FW version - 2250.1800.7355.205 and beyond or close to that.
If you try to load the new EM App in the current DVP's, it will not work for the new features.

Does any of this allow the DVP to backup SMS, for example if they are stored in a data file?

Built-in file explorer
Thanks for the info on the built-in file explorer.
One thing I have noticed is it shows more files and directories than other methods of looking at the files (like using the web server app).
I can see files in the root as well as many other directories.
For example, when I open the file explorer I see:
Storage Card\
Windows\
Temp\
Application Data\
mxip_notify.vol
Applications\
mxip_system.vol
My Documents\
Program Files\
Wallpapers\
DOCFILE\
and more...
I am not sure that it is helpful, but it is different.

Let me write a quick app that writes the read file to a isolated storage and we can dump the file from there.

Mix is Apr 12-14.
Are you handing over Chris a dvp?
He won't be getting mine to keep, but if anyone smarter than I feels like they can do something with the registry after having access to a device, I'm game.

Not until we get hold of Qisda Driver similar to HTC.
How bout write access to the file explorer? Everything I find says it's for HTC products only.
Is there a way to permanetly change the touch sensitivity of the phone or will it always reset to the default of 40 after a power cycle?
