Quick question on move to top in WM 6.5.5 - HD2 General

I installed the latest Energy 23569 sense standard rom last night and i'm having trouble setting things like file explorer to the top of the start menu. I could do it in 6.5 stock. Am i missing something? or do i have to do it "manually" by creating a copy of the shortcut in \windows\start menu\?

no longer works like it did in 6.5. press and hold the one you want to move, when it highlights just drag it where you want it.

so you can't move between folders in the start menu? that sorta sucks.

not sure what you mean, , , i thought u were asking about on stock roms when you press and hold an item, you can select 'move to top', and now you cant, instead you press and hold an item, then you can drag it anywhere in the list you want, not just 'move to top', , , you never mentioned anything about folders....

in WM 6.5 if you where in the tools folder, for example, press and held the icon and hit "move to top" it would move it to the top of the main start menu and not the current folder. From what you have said (and the testing i've done) it appears this can not longer be done and move to top is for the current folder only and you can't use it to push something like file explorer to the top of the main start menu but you can use it to move the shortcut to the top of the tools folder.
You follow now?

ahh gotcha. In that case browse to windows\start menu\programs\subfolder and copy the program.lnk up a level to windows\start menu\programs
however not sure if there is an explorer.lnk in there, it might be a hard coded one.
or, go into windows\ and find the explorer program, press and hold it, choose copy, go to windows\start menu, click menu - edit - paste shortcut

There is one for file explorer but the messaging one on the other hand is a problem. MS really do annoy me when they change stuff that works just fine and make it less useful. Windows vista/7 and directsound is an example. Worked just fine for years until windows vista and then they changed it to xaudio and now it doesn't work at all.

thats not MS, thats the energy rom. I have 6.5.x and all those shortcuts are still in teh main list on mine. MS and HTC get a lot of undeserved flack off people blaming them for changin this and that, when in fact its a custom rom, or a tweak they installed.

Interesting to know. Great idea too. Hide one of the most useful tools in WM (i'm ot a total commander fan. Poorly laid out and was designed to be used with a stylus).
It is a nice rom though, very fast with a nice UI that for the most part has been well thought out. It would be nice to have a version with a couple of the removed things included but i can sort that out myself. If i had the balls i would cook a rom but it sounds like a lot of effort and even more risk for a newbie like me to undertake

it doesnt have to be too daunting. More rom chefs are releasing the pre built kitchen along with the rom, which means
1 you dont have to set up a kitchen from scratch and
2 you already have a pretty nice rom to work with, not starting from a stock one.
its already had the more necessary, low level work done, it is a working cooked rom, all you do is simply turn on and off bits you dont want, (honest, its that simple) and hit build, flash the rom, see if your tweak worked, move on to the next minor change.
Once youget more confident, you can start editing the reg files directly, replace icons and such.
Dont like the chefs taskbar? turn it off, got a cab of one you like? convert it to ext and its in the kitchen, so you can cook it in.
It has the added benefit that you can cook in your most important apps, (remotetracker, resco and my reg settings for me) so if you lose it and the thief/finder hard resets it, or you crash away from home, its all still in there.
So long as you have hspl on your phone, you cant go far wrong.
Look for 'comes with kitchen' and the like in the rom thread title.

Is there a program or a way to turn the flash light on? I want to assign it to one of my hard buttons and don't like going into camera then pushing the flash on everytime i want to use it.
Don't know if it works on your device, as it wasn't designed for it, but I wrote VJCandela to do this on older devices.

does anyone know where i can put this exe so i can assign it to a button? i tried programs folder and windows folder and it doesn't show up on the list under settings > buttons
i also try putting the exe in the apps folder, no luck
I actually have it on my memory card... I think it gets registered as an application the first time you run it, then it can be added to the menu... it's been so long, I don't remember exactly.

[ How to ] : Turn off your Touch HD without pushing the power button!

Hi guys,
I'm fairly new here, but I thought that I should join in on the contributions and give back to the community, because I've already had countless hours of help just by searching through the knowledge (mostly garbage though..) that can be found through the search engine! Anyhow, after through much sifting, I managed to create a nifty little tool to help you turn off your Touch HD via software. What's the purpose of this? It is simply to preserve the lifespan of your power button. For some reason, the powerbutton and volume buttons just don't seem too solid to me (mainly the powerbutton).
Enough wish-wash, let's get down to it!
What you need:
1) HTC Touch HD (It may work on any phone with a 480 x 800 layout, I'm not sure, I only had enough money to buy a single phone)
2) If you don't already have it, get Mortscript and install it onto your phone.
3) Now, download the tiny attachment and extract the "Auto Shutdown.mscr" file within it. Place this anywhere you'd like, on your Desktop for example.
Baby-Step-by-Step instructions:
1) Connect your phone to the computer. Mine is set via USB only, no active Sync. Copy/Cut the "Auto Shutdown.mscr" file to any location on the phone's storage.
2) Disconnect USB, and unplug the cable.
3) Go to File Explorer, and look for your "Auto Shutdown.mscr", wherever you placed it earlier and copy/cut the file.
4) Navigate your way to the phone's storage via File Explorer, and go to Windows > Start Menu > Programs > MortScript >
5) Paste the "Auto Shutdown.mscr" there.
6) Soft-reset.
And, that's it! I asked you to place the .mscr file inside the MortScript folder because this prevents you from accidentally pressing the file when viewing the Programs menu. If you're going to add the .mscr file to the TouchFLO shortcut list, I strongly suggest you put it all the way to the bottom to prevent accidentally presses as well. After all, upon pressing, your phone will shutdown.
Having said that, you can also now use this with Cyberon Voice Commander or Microsoft Voice Commander, so it's really quite awesome in my opinion.
If someone has already posted something like this (I don't remember seeing any when I searched though...), feel free to ignore this entire post of blabber and move along already, I can't believe you had the patience to read till this last word!
Enjoy! I know I am!
Cheers.
EDIT: I've uploaded a new file down below. Download that file instead. This will now work with any phone running WM 6.1 and higher. I am not certain if this will work on WM 6.5 based cores as I am not sure how the Shutdown process works.
I can't imagine that the power button (nor the volume buttons) will take any damage by simply pressing them. I'm doing so for five months now (pressing them often during the day) and haven't noticed any damage.
The only think to consider is the fact, that you have to press the power button on the left side. You don't need to press it hard then.
Anyway I think there are enough exe files, which will shutdown your device, so writing a MortScript isn't neccessary at all.

John,
Thanks for the input. See, I thought my power button was funky when it was only more responsive on the left side, at least now I know that the phone was made that way. To each his own I guess (I am very compulsive when it comes to the care of a new gadget, sometimes a little insane), I just got the phone like 2 days ago, so I'm still just finding my own balance on what is comfortable and preferable for me. I just thought I'd share it with you guys, that's all .
My philosophy when it comes to doing things is to do things with the least amount of resources, in this case, installing the least amount of programs. I see MortScript being very useful for me in the future in doing certain things without having to install more .exe files.
Cheers!

Using your tool might help to use the power button 10 years or more. I bought my device in Germany. Here we have 2 years of warranty and I don´t plan to use my Blackstone very much longer.

Matt,
I honestly cannot tell if you're trying to be condescending, patronizing or what have you. If you honestly don't want to use the script, simply don't, I'm not begging you to use it. It's really that simple. If you must go out of your way to put other people down for things they've shared, then I simply feel sorry for you.
But okay, thanks for the response.
Cheers.

Bigdeal88,
No, you need mortscript because it is the parser. Mortscript is the program that reads and processes/parses the .mscr files. It is essentially a simple script reader.
Why do you ask? Are you not able to use Mortscript?
Cheers.

Thanks.

Ruguk,
Are you using WM 6.1? The script assumes that you have the "PowerOffWarning.exe" available in your Windows folder. I would assume that all WM 6.1 would have this file.
@Zolom,
You're welcome.

Hi, my version is just 6. So i guess thats why i don't have PowerOffWarning.exe in windows folder. Maybe its time to upgrade my phone or search more for a full shutdown soft.
Thanks.

Ruguk,
There is no need to mate. Go to your windows folder and browse the contents. I assure you, you will find something along the lines of PoweroffWarning.exe. Just keep looking. When you think you've found the right file, just try pressing on it and see if the warning window pops up. If that's the one, then you've got the right file. All you do then is open the .mscr file with notepad and modify the PowerOffWarning.exe name to the name of whatever it is that you found. It is important that you leave the formatting exactly the same as it was.
Cheers.

I've been looking...can you help?

I'm looking for some cabs:
1. A cab that will allow me to select more than one file to copy/cut/paste
2. How to make the lists in folders smaller (as in the Energy Roms)
That's it...unfortunately, don't know their names-hence my issue in finding them.
Currently running Xanny Evo 17b

1. You mean like a file explorer which allows you to select one than one file?
Resco explorer (3rd party app), file explorer 2 and I think total commander and basic file explorer on most roms also does this
2. Some file explorers you can change view in options or do you mean amount of files in programs etc. If the latter you create more folders like 'tweaks' etc in /windows/start menu/programs and then move your desired file into this folder
Thanks, but let me clarify...
You (and I) both use Xanny. What do you use to select more than one file in a folder (music, for example)? It's irritating copying/pasting/cutting only one file at a time.
As for #2, I would.like to get rid of the finger friendliness when listing files. With Xanny, for example, all files have a double space between them,.and the font is relatively large.(for ease of choosing). At this time, only 7 items can be seen at a time. Would like it single spaced.

Well to be honest I use Resco Explorer to select more than one file. You can either select all or use the 'multi-selection' mode. Open your folder containing music, then go to menu > edit > multi-selction mode then select the files you want before you either move, copy, run them etc
Thought i'd post in here as I'm looking for some cabs too. I've searched for 3 days and it's time to ask. Can anyone please tell me the name of the program that adds the buttons to the bottom of the home screen like this >screenshot< shows (camera, opera and comm manager buttons)? I'm sure everyone knows the name... except me.
I've searched for maxmanilla, home plugins, home buttons, sense ui, etc. and I've found pics of this all over the forums but haven't been able to find the exact name of this cab/program/plugin, without installing a whole new rom.
Cheers.

With regard to stuntdouble's question: There is no cab to enable the shortcuts, you will need to update your ROM to one of the 6.5.x HTC Sense versions that have that as a feature. Look in the Roms section and pick out something that looks good to you. But don't ask which one is best, as it's all a matter of taste.

Backup your ROM and try one for the heck of it. If you don't like it, reflash Topix and restore the backup. Nothing lost, but some quality family time...and who doesn't have that to spare
Total Command also allows multiple file selection. However I've only been able to access the feature in landscape mode. I haven't really delved into it too much.
Flip to landscape, click on "Ctrl" (a new button that appears in the toolbar) and you'll be able to select more than one file.

Noob guide to remove Telstra stuff without flashing

Hi all,
Thanks to all for contributing here - so much good stuff! I wanted to post this here to help others in my situation.
My wife and I got a pair of HD2's during the week. Absolutely loving them.
I was too scared of bricking two brand new phones so I set about removing all traces of Telstra and tweaking them to our satisfaction without flashing the ROMS. After a few days I'm pretty happy with the results so far:
From standard to these (at the minute, changing all the time!):
on imgur.com look at /DPgJT.jpg and /9qUiN.jpg (I'm link restricted..)
I would say that you can do everything you want with these phones without having to flash the rom if you prefer not to.
For anyone looking to de-telstrify their phones, here's some easy steps (from memory). I'm put together this little guide as there's just too much information to wade through at the start. All of these recommendations are subjective, stuff I like but you might not!
1. Get ActiveSync (if pc doesn't have it) and use it to connect phone, explore to phone's storage card. Copy cabs here to run from your phone.
2. Join these forums so you can download relevant cab files, add your experiences, etc. One way to find cab files listed below is by putting cab name (as shown) in google, then clicking xda forum links in the results.
3. Start with "Unlock_Quicklinks_Telstra.cab". Frees 3 front quicklinks.
4. Get "Co0kie.HomeTab_v1.6.1.cab". Consider installing Max Manila instead – you need to pick one or the other; I like Cookie so far- seems simpler, seems less theme oriented and more tweakable. I like the 3 pages of quicklinks side by side.
5. Get "CHTEditor.v1.6.1.CAB" which lets you edit cookie. Make a quicklink button for it. Go in and play with settings to your liking. (Don't touch what you don't understand for the moment, take it slow..) Can replace 'Telstra 3G' with whatever (I've got "Dave's HD2" in the screenshot) using 'custom operator text'.
6. Also make quicklink for file explorer – you'll be using a lot.
7. Get "HD2Tweak 1.2.0_English.cab". Create quicklink to it and then play with settings in there. You can use 10. – Device startup – animation to stop the testra vid that plays on boot. Faster bootup and one more ad gone.
8. Also create button for "hd2 soft reset" which comes with above. Any time you need to reboot after install, if the cab doesn't prompt you then can use this button. Very handy.
9. Get "Duttys Task Manager for Leo.cab" This makes a nice file manager tool in top right corner, good for killing programs.
10 Get "BsB Tweaks 1.6.cab" and you have it all covered. I like this one for 'Tap time' to stop accidental taps. Also under the menu you can enable shake for screenshots and can reassign the 'phone' soft button.
At this point you have lots of quicklink buttons for adding new stuff, and lots of tools installed to some of those buttons. There is some crossover with all these tweak tools but they seem to co-exist peacefully as far as I can tell and all have something to offer that the other doesn't have.
Now it's time to clean up a bit more.
*With cookies you can drag your quicklinks around to arrange them. Just hold them until they pop up in the add/remove screen.
*Set your slider options so only the slider elements you like come up.
*Go into contacts and delete all those pricey branded services that you won't ever use unless you're drunk – you can always get your mate to ring instead.
*Personally I hate being pushed towards things and stuff like 'sensis search' just makes me angry. So I fired up File explorer and navigated to My device=>windows=>start menu=> programs and started deleting stuff I don't want to see. From here I believe it's only shortcuts so nothing is uninstalled for the moment. (Do this at own risk though). Just hold your finger on the file and a menu will pop up and you can choose delete.
Ok at this point there's very little branded stuff left on the phone (that I've found yet). Time for making it look nice. This is totally subjective and almost all the options are on xda developers. I would recommend:
10. Make folders in your storage card: sliders, clocks, wallpapers, installed. Makes it easy to organise/change these (by reinstalling the cab file)
11. Go to the site ppcmods to download the cabs for great sliders and clocks. Very nice collection.
12. Get "V6 TEST 5 HD2 GSM Only 1.66 WEE.cab" for the colour icons at the top. Great mod.
13. "AM Slider trasparente con cornice Sense 2.5.cab" and "- Orologio Trasparente Antonio_Sense2.5.CAB" make the slider and calendar transparent respectively.
14. For backgrounds the best I've found is to install this patch "HQWallpaperPatch_v1.21_forManila2.5.1920.cab" so you can have fullscreen (no black bands at top and bottom)
15. Followed by installing "HDWall" onto your PC – you can use this to make any pic a cab file. It gives you a nice preview as well so you can see what will be under the clocks/calendar/etc. Great program.
That's it, appearance tweaked as you like it.
You'll probably want/need some other apps that have been discussed and linked to pretty well – this was intended more to be a getting started guide to get you to a place where you like the look of the phone and there's no angrifying stuff in your face.
Last thing I can think of – you need to go into mail, and in your inbox view, choose menu => tools(scroll down to see) =>options=>signatures and take out the "Sent by Telstra NExtG".
Hope this helps.
Will this work with the HTC Touch Dual 850/Neon 200?
Sorry dude, no idea.
By the way I've found 'Send-A-Card' in the messages menu - if anyone knows how to remove this, please post here. It's the last bit of Telstra-ware I can see embedded in the phone and I'd love to get rid of it!
Thanks for putting together a quick and useful guide. These are the first things anyone wants to do with a new phone (especially a Telstra one - they have so much T-junk!), and it's great not to have to wade through pages and pages of posts to find the basics!
Appreciate it.
so it works?? feeback please
I have google the .cabs?
I am from Mexico

yup, all the stuff he's said works. u can find the cabs on here as well
nice guide, thanks mate! be awesome if you can link in the cabs once you can post links!
MyEmail
Is there a way to get rid of MyEmail link in mailbox list ?
D.
Hello yes it so easy, when you be on the mail screen, go to option then go to account setting, there you could delete any account that you want.
regards
Any idea on how to get rid of the "send from my Telstra NextG handset" signature at the end of all new emails? Annoying that I have to delete it every time.
Cheers,

Hi all,
Thanks to all for contributing here - so much good stuff!

Error with CHTEditor.exe - Help
I jsut received my phone the other day and am totally new to this. I read your Noob guide written by Kitestyle.
I have a Telstra model here in Canada. I loaded your Cookiehometab1.6.1. Worked fine. And then Tried your recommendation to load the CHTEditor.exe to the SD card.
Ran it and got an error:
"An unexpected error has occured in CHTEditor.exe. Select Quit and then restart the program, or select details for more info.
Details indicates this application requires a newer version of Microsoft.NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device.
Am totally gray to this....recommendations appreaciated!
Thank you
Paul
the only way to truely de-Telstra and free your HD2 is to
1. HSPL3 -> removes CID lock
and
1.1 ( might want to do a task29 to really make sure ROM is squeaky clean )
and
2. Flash to official HTC WWE ( not Telstra branded ) rom, or any other cooked ROM of your choosing
its easy, and works well, i'm on Telstra NextG network, now running the official HTC english Hong Kong 1.72.831.1 ROM ( not Telstra branded ), and now have the ability to run any ROM i see fit, thanks to HSPL. Best part is, if and when you have to do a hard reset ( and you will at some stage ), all the Tel$tra nasties stay away....permanently
Hi
I may have missed this, but is there some way to change the websites displayed on the apps and downloads page, the one that comes up with the orange circle with teh white arrow
whichway

anyone know how to delete or change the animated telstra shut down screen right before the phone turns off? i have deleted the animated boot up splash screen and the shutdown splash is all i have left to delete

WHY arent ThERE Stickies!

a ton of info on here, to bad its so scattered if i close the tab ill never find it again..
having a problem making shortcuts from sd card/ dont know the proper procedure but i did manage to get omarket back to home tabs after a hard reset because tmobile wouldnt/couldnt upload my contacts from mytmobile.com
now i have wifi router somehwere in the system already installed and cant utilize it.
installed these 2 things before i called tmobile.
There should also be a what to do and what not to do, it gets very confusing seeing the leo thread and then coming back to the US tMObile Leo thread and no stickies.
there should be a list of .cab for the apps that come with the phone that were removed b4 release to US. i found it b4 i cant find it now
An official list of what roms will work + compatibility sticky (so people dont brick phones all day) its hard to see a good rom and then have to read the next 3 pages to realize it wont work/will brick your fone.
and a general how to for those who dont want to flash roms, and dont mind dealing with stock rom but would like the benifits "tweaks" such as tweaks for stock rom.
Any one VNCvewier? this is a useful tool that only topix rom has (as far as i know)
I just got my hd2 today, but have been going ape $/-/!tt looking things up on here for the past weeks.

How to install a cab.
You simply download the cab to your computer. Then, copy/paste the cab to your storage card using the USB connection. Then, using your file explore on your phone locate the cab file in your storage card and install it by double taping the file.
How to search the forum.
1) Towards the top right side of web page you should see the search option, press the small arrow.
2) A small drop down window should open.
3A) You may do a broad search which normally won’t turn up any solid information by simply typing out what you’re looking for in the white box and hitting search.
3B) For a more refine search click on the "use the built in forum search" / Advance search link at the bottom of the small search box.
4) You'll want to click on the small arrow just under the Keyword box on the left hand side of the screen and click "search titles only".
5) Then on the right side of the window is the larger “search in forum(s)” box, click on either the “HTC Leo: HD2” or the “T-Mobile USA HTC HD2” heading which are highlighted in white and press Search Now.

Not to nit pick this but I highly doubt it's most. Probably a very low percentage but they complain about it a lot (rightfully) so it seems like a bigger issue than it really is.

Link to chteditor has been fixed.
By "ok to delete" do you mean which programs are ok to uninstall from stock?
Ok guys As per the rules I cant make a thread and then sticky it myself so If some one would like to start the thread and PM me I will sticky it.
delete of rom with no repercussions

File Explorer > Windows > Start Menu > Programs > then delete unwanted icons.
If you're looking for speed and don't mind messing with the phone look into a better ROM. But do your research. I just flashed my first one about 2 days ago.
