Hi all,
Ive been searching the web for details on the exact encryption protocols that the nexus one supports. Ive not found anything thats definitive. Im trying to setup a VPN through 3DES/ DES / AES etc etc but without knowing exactly what Mr. Nexus supports its a bit hit and miss.
Anyone know ?
Also I'm trying to load a couple of unencryped .ca and .csr files on the phone without any luck (did mention on another thread) ?, but whilst I'm asking.
What an arse ache.
Thanks for your help.
Ash.

Hello all,
I am new to the site and recently had my O2 XDA Orbit. While using WIFI, Internet Explorer would move from site to site but quite often when going to some sites, even back to Yahoo or google, IE would say opening then stick on locating and eventually pop up with a message saying 'The page cannot be found.Check the name and try again.'
If anyone can help me reslove this it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Don Kerleone
Come on folks, this site came highly recommended to help me with this matter and i can't believe no one is able to advise accordingly.....

Yes I get this on my Hermes too and stopping Wifi and restarting it fixes the problem for a while. It seems like it's a Wifi issue but not sure why or how to fix permanently.
Check you Wifi settings under Power Mode and make sure you have Best Performance selected rather than Best Battery. That fixed mine for a couple of weeks but it seems to have gone bad again.
I'm not exactly sure when the wifi stopped connecting to any external devices (since I don't really use it) but I was just curious if anyone else has had the same problem.
Basically it will pickup routers/whatever, notify, ask for pass key (if needed) and then try to connect for about 3-4 seconds, then just say unavailable.
I can get multiple connections popping up for wifi nets in different physical areas to connect to etc, but they all do the same thing. It's been about a year I believe since I could connect to anything. Wouldn't mind using this at school.
If this has been answered, oooooops. I'm sorry guys but there were just too many noob posts to look through while searching for this.. Sorry folks, peace!
btw i've went through dozens of roms over the time period all same outcome, problem internally somehow perhaps?
I believe I saw you post that you are now on XPlore 2.0. If you still don't have WiFi then you have hardware issues.
i think some roms have a problem with either wpa or wep security
sweet
yes I havent been around much anymore, nor updated my stuff. It's all good, no biggy, I gotta let the wizard go in a couple months was just curious. Thanks all!
Hi all,
Firstly, apologies for being a bit of a newb here, but this is my first ever PDA type phone, and im getting myself confused, and for no real reason it seems !
I've done a bit of searching around, and from what I can work out I am going to make a few assumptions
1 - I should be able to, without using my WLAN connection, browse the internet on my HTC3600 through internet explorer, using my Vodafone 3g or GPRS connection.
2 - there is a way to enable some random wizardry chip inside the phone to activate GPS, and if I was to install TomTom Satnav software, this would work with no extra dongles etc.
Now. if my assumptions are correct (and one should never assume anything) I would be greatly appreciated if someone could in easy to follow newbie freindly (as in, click on start, programs,) instructions as to how I would ...
1 - do what is required to get GPS working
2 - do what is required to get the 3g web browsing working.
Im sure this would be a useful sticky if you cna help me do this, but having a search round on the forum I havn't seen these instructions spelt out. Aware that whatever you tell me I do at my own risk etc, but would really appreciate some help here
cheers all

Usually I would say search and stop being a noob but I'll be nice today.

Correct, however you'll have to setup your internet settings for Vodafone, you can usually find these settings on vodafone's support website or by calling customer service.

If you have an older ROM loaded on your P3600 then yes you'll have to upgrade it to enable the GPS. You can check your ROM by going to start->settings->system->device information if it's 1.15, you'll need to upgrade it to get GPS, however if it says 1.23, your GPS should already be enabled. You may also want to look into upgrading your P3600 to WM6.
Here are some useful links

BTW, don't get too attached to this phone, the screen will probably stop responding in about a month and you'll have to send it in to get serviced.
Good luck.

Don't do anything apart from going to Start/Settings/System/Device Information and checking what is listed for Radio ROM. If it ends in **.**.11 it is GPS enabled. If not, as vanydotk says, you will need to update the Radio ROM.
Any GPS aware application (TomTom etc, etc) will automatically initiate the GPS receiver as needed, as long as the applications settings point to the correct GPS port (COM9) You don't need any additional hardware.

Make sure you have a 3G SIM card, and 3G is enabled on your account (it isn't always).
Use This Guide to manually configure the Vodafone settings (HTC did have an automatic file to do this, but it's been pulled from their site). Note there are different settings for contract and PAYG accounts.
Be very aware that mobile browsing can be very expensive. Before you do anything, make sure you buy a data bundle, or it may cost you up to £3 per MB of data.
Also a newbie and had spent some time reading the forum looking for answers... Can any experts clarify and/or confirm my question below? I know it s a very basic question for many here, but I would really appreciate it if someone can help me to get this working.
Do I have to have Mapping software installed on my Trinity in order for the GPS to work?
I go into the Camera mode by pressing the "shutter" button. Tap on the camera icon (upper left in landscape view) to enable GPS. However, nothing happens. Looks like it just keeps trying to start GPS.
The screen message reads: "Initializing GPS..."
What do I need to do to get the GPS working?
According to a previous post. My device came with the GPS enabled based on the ROM versions on my Trinity.
Some info:
I purchased my D810 in Hong Kong but I am using it now in Taipei.
The ROM info are as follows:
-ROM version: 1.23.707.6
-ROM date: 02/08/07
-Radio version: 1.35.00.11
-Protocol version: 32.68.7020.10H
OS 5.1.461 (Build 15671.3.3.0) Windows Mobile 5.0 with Messaging and Security Feature Pack. English version.
I am currently on a pre-paid phone service (FarEast Tone) so I do not have access to 3.5G, etc.
Thanks in advance!!!
Hey guys i'm thinking about getting this phone or the tilt. Main reason is i know WM6 supports 802.1x wifi security modes, which my school uses EAP-PEAP. i dont know whether or not the g1 supports it. Does it? i've been googling for a bit and nothing comes up. Thanks in advance.

All I can see is WPA and WPA2 it doesn't let me configure it further. So I am going to guess no... I don't have any EAP or RADIUS routers to check.
But even if it doesn't have it... it can always come out later cause it is just software.
damn how long will it take........honestly i believe they released a half baked product anyway hopefully they'll do it in time before i get my tilt.

You have to remember this product has only been out a week and a half and already they sent out a firmware update. Most other HTC devices don't get updates unless its from WM 6 to 6.1
Google likes to release things that are just bare minimum and use your feedback to build the rest. You will probably see quite a few firmwares being released. Remember this is all to benefit you. While it may be "half baked" to you right now... in the future it will include all the things you need... but not all those things you hated about other OS's
oh they already have firmware updates out? thats cool. Thanks
PEAP and 802.1x
Developers! I wish that i could contribute but i'm not a programmer. I am however leading a group of students on my campus to use the G1 to it's fullest potential. Everything from Gapp's to media sharing. The issue now is that there is no support/options for PEAP authentication on our campus environment. We have some of the best wifi coverage of most campus's i've been to but it defeats the $200 bill of the G1 if i have to rely on the edge network.
Is there any developers I can test configs for? I'll be a tester and can usually report back quickly.
needed configs for campus:
-WPA
-TKIP
-802.1 and PEAP
-AD username and Pswd
Thanks!
Jolopicus
It should work fine if you have root and set up the wifi connection manually with a custom wpa_supplicant.conf, the iptables thread in the development section would be a good start for reading what ya need to do. the default wpa_supplicant.conf on the device has all the settings possible in the comments.
Hi all,
I bumped this topic instead of creating a new one. So i hope this the right way. If i should make a new topic please say so. But this was the closes and only thing i could find about the topic.
Is there any information about getting RADIUS or 802.1x working on the G1. (My campus has this and i like to have internet access on my phone there as i do not have a data abbo).
I read that rooting your phone is a option, but i am not sure what image i should use and how to install it so i hope there is a way to do it on 1.6.
Looking forward to your replays.
Pimmetje
I have connection now with a WPA-PEAP network. That one is working but the raduis (8.02.1X) still shows up as web
I have done a search here on this site and found a few topics related to my issue. However, I have not seen a solution for the problem. I also however, have not seen anyone saying it is impossible. So I guess I am asking for either a solution or a reason as to why this cannot be done.
ANYWAY! Onto the issue at hand!
There is a site I would like to get working on my aria. It allows me to listen in on shortwave radio frequencies. I would have provided a link but it told me I cant so...bleh...
Problem is, whenever I go to the site it tells me java is not installed or it is disabled.
So can anyone help me out here? Or can anyone tell me this is not possible and I will simply never have a shortwave radio on my aria?
Thanks in advance for any information given.
