Just take pictures of everything - but confirmation that the Broadcom 4329 chip is in there would be good as would partno's for the RAM and ROM.
If you find any sort of marking on the camera/lens that would also be very interesting.
i think it's great that you want to do this

Ah yes, what would be interesting:
SUPPOSE the extra RAMAROM isn't there (nice word btw ), there might be a soldering spot for an extra ROM module on the mainboard.
Oh, while your at it, it may be a good idea to change your thread title to something like: "PICTURES OF THE HD2 INTERNALS".

Can you focus on the Hynix chip, or describe what the code is you're seeing?
Broadcom bcm4329ekubg
Like the Google Nexus One: WiFi N, receiver & transmitter fm
The hynix chip might be a ram chip. They do make ram. Says "45M" on it...no idea if this means MB, i doubt it. Are there more hynix chips? hyundai, samsung would be other ram manufacturers!

On the other hand, the Hermes/TyTN is out now.

I'm kind of expecting full size SD. Would love to keep using my 4GB SD.
Anyone use Prophet with SDIO GPS? Which brand? Can you pls post a picture?

What do you think folks? isnt this the ultimate phone we've been waiting for all these years?
Broken link.
Edit: Thanks for fixing.
One thing I don't like is how when you're flipping through the panels you HAVE to select one. You can't flip through them in that format, then lift your finger and not pick it. Also, very laggy on the screen rotation in panel mode. Graphics accelerator, 384MB ram? Maybe it'll need all of it just to rotate the screen. Really lame, one of the "benefits" to this was going to be that it eats less memory than TF3D... Seems to eat more.
Overall, once they work out some issues, it'll be a good phone. The phone of the future? Maybe... Not my future, but it'll compete with some of the best.
That site has been viewed by a lot of people in the last few days - with regards to performance issues I think it is stated that he had a pre-release version. I believe newer roms have made it snappier (from what I have read)
yup i agreed, its still laggy on screen rotation in panels mode. but switching from one ponales to the other is so fast!
and of course it eats alot of memory than TFL3D, it has 8 active desktop and all running on the background! What makes you think they boost the RAM to 384MB?
hell, it would even be funny to see TFL3D/ manila 2D running as one of Xperia panels and still keep the speed

Oh yeah? Hm. That video was from September 25th, and on September 26th it was posted on Xperiancers saying there was 384MB RAM... Are you sure that version didn't have it? You're not? Okay then. Notice they didn't say "The device will have", they said "The device has"...
"• Questions re: the speed etc… The device has a graphics accelerator, a 528 Mhz processor and 384 megs of ram (so it should be as fast as anything else that is out there.)"
So I'm glad to know you're 100% sure the version on video 1 day earlier didn't have 384 megs of ram.
And wow, I'm gonna call major BS on what they said here on Xperiancers:
"• How big is the battery and how long does it last? The battery is a 1500mAh unit (about 10% bigger than, for example, the touch pro). How long it lasts depends very much on how much you use the phone. Even in the worst case scenario, with all the features turned on (GPS, internet, applications etc…) and heavy usage, it will last all day and need to be charged over night."
Really? GPS and WiFi, WORST case scenario, using everything, you can't kill the battery in less than a day? BULL****.
Haha chill out there buddy. But you missed one assumption. You assumed because that video is posted on the 25th that they have the newest phone version. As you can see here right in the review they say it's difficult to say how far they are from the final version. Now why would they say that if they got it a day before the release?
"This is a prototype, we were advised that we do not run into any big test that before we start selling a lot more changes. There are several things that at this X1 does not work at all (like GPS), or do not work optimally. It is difficult to say how far we are from the final version, it is clear that the work on the software, therefore, prefer to avoid the assessment of speed or function at all. "
And another quote to back me up.
"With the speed of the animation of the prototype would be worse, but what can be seen in the accompanying video is one of the things that are in the final Xperiích significantly improved (see video at the:: unwired). "
The unwired video was posted on the 15th. Now if it was posted on the 15th why would there 1 day old phone be significantly improved 14 days earlier?

How would they test it and know it works? Do you mean to tell me you expect them to completely revamp the hardware of the device and release it as-is, with no beta testing? If that's the case, I'm REALLY worried about their quality control now.

ACER F1
If you want snap dragon power in a Touch hd format then you want the ACER f1, together with the announcment that XDA is going to start support third party devices it makes this phone start to lok quite interesting as it is much cheaper than the HD2 and a better size in my opinion. The Nexus one is also another alternative if andriod floats you boat, it doesnt flat mine at the moment but it may get better in the not too distant furure.
A 1Ghz processor, and a Tegra graphics chip, and a 10mp camera with 720p video recording, and an AMOLED screen, and multi touchnessness, and...

quite right, its a numbers game, a perfect device would kill the market.
and as to the question, do you have any idea whats involved in changing hardware in the HD? firstly its a chipset, its not just one chip you stick any chip thats not ment to be in there and it isnt going to work, you would need to change the whole set, that pretty much means your sticking a new PCB in. not even to mention the pin and track layouts.
secondly the software isnt like a computer, you cant swap things and install new drivers, mostly because there are no drivers, the OS is made HTC then build the base platform around the hardware. Back in the day you might have found an old PDA that had two versions one had more RAM perhaps, the spaces on the PCB might be in the cheeper version which aloud you to upgrade the RAM. Those days are gone. take a look at any PDA PCB and you will see several surface mounted ICs on a tiny PCB.
This is my newest project. It's basically a way to greatly improve the already great HD2. The plan is to take the hardware of the hd2 and put it into a new housing to increase functionality.
Goals:
front facing camera
better signal
front facing speaker (why in the world would you ever want to turn your phone around to hear it)
camera lens protection
bigger battery
wireless charging
kickstand
camera swivel
looks
a breath of fresh air for the ever so aging HD2
Achieved:
front facing speaker
kickstand
proximity and light sensor repositioned
evo 4g lte housing (chose this because the device can stay slim and pocketable while still adding new features)
2300 mah battery
Problems:
No More Front Camera (due to needing the phone to actually charge)
with the extension of the micro usb and headphone jack, it makes it nearly impossible for the camera to swivel back to rear position
removable battery door
Future Plans:
make a primary hd2 docking station complete with external battery speakers and keyboard (idea thanks to xyntaxis)
So what do you think of this project? I am open to any suggestions or support.

i had an idea for that, but that would require changing a lot of drivers and kernels. If we can our best bet would be to either get a higher clocked qualcomm s1 from something like the titan, or wait for wp8 and upgrade to an s2 through s4. Unfortunately, for now that's just a half baked idea.
edit: remember the main point of this thread is to change the look and feel of the hd2. the internals aren't really being touched. btw, i'll have some pics up when i get the proper housing. when the pics are up i'm sure there will be a better understanding of this project.

I don't know much about this stuff, but wouldn't the larger battery and front facing camera already require new drivers + kernel changes? Also, I think if anything needs to be improved it's the GPU, not the CPU. Once again I have no clue how this works and whether or not the GPU and CPU are somehow dependent on each other so if this isn't possible then I guess there isn't much that can be done about it.
I support your idea all the way though
This thread is kinda science fiction. You can't simply change CPU or GPU because they are SoC. Any hardware change require massive talent, knowledge and time because we don't have detailed schematics for hardware and software so you would need to reverse engineer it.
Thoughts are good, but it's too hard and time consuming IMO. Good luck though, I'll be watching this thread
