got google voice invite

Ok so I just got an invite and was wondering if I need a gizmo account to get the free calling over wifi. If I get a gizmo account I have to get a 747 number, is it possible to get free calling over wifi without gizmo.

Are you trying to say that you believe in order to get Gizmo working you need your GV number to be in the 747 area code? Because that's incorrect.
Your GV number can be in any area code and still work with Gizmo.

ok so i got it set up, is there any way to get free texting with this?

also when i get a call it says press 1 to accept then i have to press a button to go to the dial pad since it does not pull up like the original dialer and then the call is disconnected.

Yeah ... I'm in Canada and am waiting for local numbers to use my invite.

...go into your settings online and change that option, you can have it directly connect you when you answer but then you wont have the option to listen in on the voicemails

[REQ] Need Google Voice App, but ...

I'm looking for application which will initiate Google Voice callback. But there are few requirements:
1. Callback has to be through internet connection
2. I should be able to select 2 phone numbers from the list stored by Google, just like I do in browser
Basically I want to do this:
1. Start application and it will login into my Google voice using 3G/WiFi/Edge
2. Select 2 numbers to call. They are stored in Google Contacts. Having "Smart dial" would be nice.
3. Press "Connect" button
Is there anything like it ? Application, not browser version of Google Voice ?

And yes as far as i remember there was a GoogleVoice Application,but doesnt work outside USA and Canada.

It seems that most apps, like GVDialer dial my Google Voice, enter password and then - initiate a call
This is NOT what I want. I want Google Voice to call both numbers and join them. That is it. Just like you can do it on www.google.com/voice

Thats for SMS. not calls

So what you want is a conference call initiated with Google Voice.

How to set up your phone for free calling

Ill be in Colombia this time 2mrw, and was wondering how I can set up my phone to make free cals, even if its only locally, without having to get a new sim... any suggestions??

There are lots of ways to at least get very cheap calling if you're using wifi. If you're using local cell towers, not so much.

I kind of new at it but im using Google voice. Getting free text messages now. Might want to check it out

Use Sipdroid with Google Voice. Google it. There's a delay and the call quality is sh*tty, but using SIP and something like GV is pretty much the only way.

How does that Google Voice works? i can't activate mine 'cause i don't have the pin code.

You get the PIN code when Google calls your phone. You can't sign up for it without a US phone number.

I'm not receiving any calls from Google when trying to open the Google voice. maybe because my text messaging is blocked and i always receive that notification whenever opening GV.

so the vibrant froyo has wifi calling.. and i tried it.. and i dont.. are any devs currently working on this.. because it would be awesome.. i live in a rural area.. and dont get service.. im sure its possible if they did it on the vibrant.. someone should check into it.. it would def be awesome

no,the vibrant has it because tmobile has a contract with another company which is providing their voip. you cannot do the same thing with verizon unless they create the same kind of app. the one on the vibrant was created by tmobile.

I know there is a skype apk that was altered to allow this. No idea where to find it, but I know it exists! I believe I saw it posted over at droid-life.com

I keep hoping that with Google's (somewhat) recent inclusion of the ability to make phone calls via Gmail, and that combined with having a Google Voice number...maybe /some/time in the near future they would get off their lazy butts and improve our Voice app (so that we can make calls too).
This would be great because many of the computer labs at school have perfect WiFi reception, but no cellular signal can seem to penetrate those terrible brick walls.

I have the same problem with some of our computer labs. By the way, there is sipdroid which you can use right now and I think it has some free voip provider you can use with it.

android market,install sipdroid,its at the bottom,it has you sign in to your google voice account,and you can start calling through your google voice number. If you want to use it over 3g,you have to turn it on in the settings.

i tried it.. and its not working.. whats a google voice number?

My brother is using Google voice on his g1 running cyanogen rom as his primary dial out number ....its weird, my Google voice on my fascinate has three options, use Google voice for international calls, don't use Google voice for calls, and ask for international calls. His has an extra option, use Google voice for all calls....I'm not sure if this is a mod of Google voice from the cyanogen team or what...also, fwiw he's on T-Mobile, but T-Mobile has no coverage above edge in our area so....he typically dials out over wifi...

I do a lot of traveling for work, and have used sipdroid to call using gv, where there is no cdma service.

If you have a google number you can use the Google Talk app. Works for sms.

Where can you get the google voice sms app?

It depends on the Telephone provider, try throwing the TelephonyProvider.apk from /system/app/ in a 2.x device onto the TF, and see if it will work then.
It might need some libs too, but idk. Im at work now, cant test it
EDIT::Check /system/etc/permissions/android.hardware.telephony.<CDMA or GSM>.xml

You're right I mean Voice. Lol. Groove IP works great to place inbound and outbound calls on the TF. I've been using it.
