Hi,
I've updated my k-jam's rom to the latest available from i-mate which is this one:
Rom version: 2.16.9.1
Radio version: 02.07.10
ExtROM version: 2.16.9.101
On the last rom version I had, which was the original one from the time I bought the phone, I managed to install TomTom 5.21 by Bakonl and work with several maps.
Now that I upgraded the rom I tried to install the program again but this time to the mini-SD card and it freezes on the "choose map" screen. Sometimes it's only the program freezing, others it's WM5 that freezes making me soft-reset.
I have now tried to install TomTom to the phone disk but still get these problems. Is it just me geting this?
Has anyone else been having the same problems?
any workarounds this problem?
Cheers,
pL
i had the same problem when i didnt have a CurrentMap.dat file installed on my pda. I copied one from one of my backups and put it in the /MyDocuments/TomTom folder, its worked since.
Hi Dean,
I don't even have that folder. I'll try and create it with that dat file and see how it goes...
I'll post again with the results later.
Thanks,
pL
F**** it works.
I had been jamming my head around for this.
Real thanks mate.
To those interested what I did was based on dean's enligthments and another post on this forum on "tomtom v5 maps".
I created the folder TomTom on My Documents.
Then used TotalComander (you can do it on your desktop if you want to) to create a file called CurrentMap.dat that I placed on the previously created folder. That *.dat file only contained a line of code:
& \Storage Card\Iberia Plus-Map\
This did it...
Cheers,
pL
freezing and resets galore after new O2 ROM
I installed the new O2 ROM last week and all appeared OK, but now TomTom (5.21) is freezing up (everywhere) and it won't start up \again after being used without a soft reset, whereupon it can't see the storage card and that needs to be taken out and the contacts rubbed (static?).
I have a CurrentMap.dat file in My Device/My Documents/TomTom already so I don't think it's that.
My poor xda is blushing at the abuse it's getting.
On the plus side, Activesync isn't totally [email protected] any more.
DBo.
well, I have no clue whatsoever on that...
Nevertheless, have you tried re-installing it?
Or was your rom update complete and you already had to install it?
Do check the dat file it might be that it's tricking you...
By the way are you using bakonl's version of tomtom?
Take care,
pL
Ooer missus!
I checked the CM.dat file and sure enough it had a '!' athe beginning (comment?). I removed that and viola - TomTom started up with the agreement screen (like when it can't find the maps) and then let me choose from the two maps I have and then froze (like a biatch).
One soft reset later and...it has started fine...twice.
I'll post results after further trials.
Cheers, DBo.
Another reason why TT freezes ist too much POI categories or too much POI checked to be visible.
Was More TT Woe - now Mini SD Woe
I don't know whether it's overheating (I had to use my car mount in another car) or the mini SD card expiring or what, but I was having major trauma yesterday (on most of a 600 mile round trip!!).
It is getting to being unusable.
Bah! :x
Mini SD woes
STOP PRESS!
It is the Mini SD card. It finally gave up the ghost and is being laid to rest in a small ceremony (slotting it in a jiffy bag back to Moby). The backup 1Gb card is working fine...so far.
Nice one. Glad it worked out for you.
TomTom seems to be the best around, at least from what I tried out so far.
I'm trying to get a trial on viamichelin to make a final decision.
Cheers,
pL

Sorry aint checked back here for a couple of day. Glad you got it sorted mate.
Dean
I get the same problem to
uninstalled reinstalled ... and so on and so on.
it seems to be strangly intermittent.
When it decides its going to work within the first few minutes it will work all day , when it doesn't then it crashes before loading the map.
Its really quite annoying especially when your trying to show of the skills of the TT5 on the wizard.
Are you sure its not the fact that you reinstalled it?
My moby mem card has given me grief before then started working again .
will hold off till these 2 GB ones maybe get a san disk one this time .
is there an application that can do this already?
Basicaly when I get in my car I need blutooth on, the first thing I do is put the phone into the car charger. I also use bluetooth when the phone is charging at home, the rest of the timwe i dont need it but if i forget to turn it off then it burns battery power.
so I want an app that can enable bluetoth when a charger is connected and disable it when a charger has been disconnected for X amount of time.
Thanks
hey =)))
wow.... i created such an "app" and posted it here..... but there was absolutely NO response.... i thought noone would need it =)....
the app i created is just a little script for MortScript...
so you have to install Mortscript first...
get it from google.... Version 4 is the newest...
then extract the atached file...
1. place blue.exe in \storage card\Programme\blue.exe (or change the path in the blue.mscr file its just a simple text file)
2. copy autoblue.mscr in \windows\startup
softreset
the script checks every 5 seconds if the power cable is plugged in... if it is it switches on bluetooth..... then it checks every 5 seconds if its plugged out and turn bluetooth off... and this goes on and on and on ......... =)
P.S: blue.exe is not my program... but i cannot find out where i have it from so i atached it in the zip file...
btw.... this is the original post

The blue.exe file turns on or off bluetooth... maybe its not possible on ipaq hx2490?!?!?! if you find a similar application witch works for your device you can simply change to it in the script...
This sounds good but do we want something checking on our PPC's every 5 seconds? Can't mortscript tell when the phone is in charge mode THEN turn on BT?
Also I think there is a program by the SKTools people called SKshedule or something that will run a prog when the power is plugged in. For all I know though it also checks every 5 seconds...
Yesterday I was play around with the VGA 144 resolution program and I noticed that on this resolution the contents of my microdrive were showing up really slowly in file explorer.
I uninstalled the program and things were back top normal.
Later I installed a newer version of the CAB for VGA 144 and this time the contents on the microdrive did not show up at all, as if it was empty, which in fact it was!
I do not know what caused this (I don't think it was the change of resolution) but was wondering if anybody else has had this happen?
The threads I have seen so far are that the microdrive is no longer visible as a drive or error messages when trying to access it....

Something similar happened to me and that's why I don't trust the drive. It wasn't with a VGA program, just happened.
I have never lost the microdrive, but something similar happened to me on an SDHC 4GB card. I had been using it only to store CAB files for installed programs but one day it was just 'empty'.
I pulled out the card and hooked it up to my computer, ran scandisk on it and all of the files were there, just seemed to have lost the FAT table as they were all lost files to be recovered. I reformatted the card since I had the files backed up.
I was running VISTA at the time time of the incident and I found that I had been moving files to the card using WM Device Center and I had the SD directory open on my desktop when I undocked my phone. Seems as if it had the FAT table open and and did not like being disconnected with the directory open.
There may be something analogous to this with ActiveSync, but I have never had this happen with another device, just with my U1000. I have been closing WMDC since then and have NO PROBLEMS.
so far this has not happened to me with the microdrive, but it has happened a few times with the sd card, which left me f**ked last week as i had tomtom on it, luckily I downloaded google maps to get me home. but there has to be an answer to why this is happening.

one of the times it happened to me was when copying files, 1 gig card is fine I dont have a 4 gig only two, you may be right about the fat, but I was using windows mobile device centre at the time.
Even though this happened to me personally...YET, I'm expecting it sooner or later. Never did get my cousins MD fixed!!
I hate this MD and not being able to trust it really defeats the object of buying this device in the first place. Looking forward to when we can eventually replace it with something else.
Surley the MD is not bigger than say the technology needed for a Full sized SD card and connections, is it? That would allow us to relatively easily upgrade our storage capacity in the future too.
Anyway, enough dreaming.
My MicroDrive wiped out too...
I was just using RescoExplorer and my x7500 stucked, I soft reseted the device and ALL files in all directories were deled, and the empty directories were there.
I used Pocket Mechanic Professional and did a scandisk and wupti all files was there again but there was about 59000 bad clusters...
Now everything is back to normal..
It happened to me twice last month both times using different s/w! (and I just start using my Advantage in July; basically this was the first time I seriously used this PDA)
The idea was nice but data storage on this MD is totally unreliable. I guess I will not be using it anymore. Even for the none vital files (e.g. music) it is not interesting seeing how much time it takes to load the MD and the ease the data disappears from the MD.
1st time I was using TomTom -on the second day of my holiday- which stopt responding. After a HTC reset TT started up and reported it could not find the Western Europe map (which I put on the MD). When I checked this map directory ALL FILES WERE GONE! Other directories appeared ok. Luckily (I thought) just for leaving on my holidays I added also the individual maps on my MD, so I switched using the Austria map, where I landed at that time. At most 2 hours later again TT froze and at inspection ALL files in the Austria directory had vaporised. Later in the evening I tried to relax from the stress driving with an "old fashioned PAPER map" and put on some music. Halfway the first number the music stopped and -you guess it right- ALL 40+ CD's were disappeared. At that time I ran Pocket mechanic 'scan disk' which reported that the FAT tables did not match (and it could not repair). Next I could not find my MD at all anymore, followed the next day by the complete HTC not being able to startup anymore after a reset (the today screen was only showing half and this part was flashing: the HTC also did not respond anymore to the h/w buttons or almost any command via the screen).
When I returned home from this first stage of my holidays (, I hard-reset the HTC after which everything returned to normal including the MD that reappeared.
After 1 week at home I was to leave for the second stage of my holidays and I prepared by putting this time all nescesary TT maps on the SD. I spend quit some hours putting some 40+ CDs again on the MD. ( I can only copy ~3 CD's at a time otherwise it aborts somewhere).
The FIRST TIME I listened to some music I started a Bowie CD and half way the first number suddenly it switched to a Stones number (no, nothing to do with 'dancing in the street'). After inspection of the MD there were already only 2 (screwed up) MP3 files left -in the root- on the complete MD!!
The MD is still in this state -and I just ran scan disk again- and appearently there is again a problem with the FAT only this time with lost clusters.
If it where not for the fact that during this 2nd trip of 4200km/2700mls over curvy B-roads TomTom gave me no troubles at all, the internal GPS worked flawless and the BlueTooth A2DP worked perfectly with my "home-made" BT helmet (for this I bought this HTC) I would have been seriously disappointed in the Advantage. As it is now I am actually quit happy with it, except for the inconvienence of not being able to use the MD.
So yes, it happened to me too: twice.
Petition for recall?
Do you guys think it's time to petition HTC for a recall of the MicroDrive? I have no idea how something like this will work but based on the feedback on the forum...there are waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many people having problems with the MicroDrive. Those that use it seriously have problems.
I myself don't have time as most of my time is being spent on the Athena Project ROM but maybe someone else can help in the matter.
What do you guys think? A massive communication effort to HTC to find out what the heck is going on here? We paid wayyyy too much money for them to think we'll be happy with what we have if there is one or two faulty parts. The one part that keeps failing us is the MicroDrive and I think it's time to get a few answers. It's our right as the consumer and get answers and the quality product that we anticipated.
I totally agree and was just trying to report my problems -including the link to this forum/thread- on the HTC site.
HTC however seems a little bit e-mail shy. Last time I checked I could not find any e-mail link at the HTC site, now I could find one but everytime when I submit my message I get a popup 'the system is experiencing some problem, please try again at a later time'.
I try again later.
scruued up
so suddenly yesterday i was just using my athena and i had this Vista Theme on Wisbar Advance running....and the device just got stuck at windows live sign-in window and the phone first just restarted but then again got stuck and the "Windows Mobile" window wich appears at the start and then wen i manually resetted it....EVERYTHING was WIPED OUT!!!...BUT everything on the device remained like the wisbar theme it asked me to install and all but on the MICRODRIVE...everything just....VANISHED!!!
I was on holiday in the u.s.a in July, and had tomtom installed (on the MD, no more room on the card), all of a sudden, it froze while driving, had to pull over and found that my usa maps had been wiped! luckily I also had igo installed with some usa maps and was able to continue my holiday without having my head stuck in a paper map, thanks for the dodgy MD HTC!
Yes, this happened to me - both the sd card and md are equally unreliable. At the moment,I install everything on my md simply because it is way way faster than the sd card. I don't use my sd card at all now, although I have two of them.
When you copy files using wm5torage, avoid starting a new copy before the one before completes. Similarly, do not use the device while copying is going on , although the system does not stop you. What I observe is that there is a higher chance of corruption when I don't observe these practice.
I used to think that md is less reliable than sd. Now I don't think that anymore. I think they are equally unreliable.

Which Tomtom version are you using? do you have WM5 or WM6? What is your Rom version?
Guys, is there a way to easily reproduce the problem in MicroDrive and SD so we can pass it to HTC and hopefully get a solution?
My new Advantage is less than 24 hours old and I too have had the Microdrive come with garbage while trying to move videos files from my PC to the PDA. I have formatted it and reloaded it, so wish me luck!!
Exactly the same story here - 7501 (WM6) less than 24 hours old.
- unable to accessed until formatted
- sometimes not showing directories/files until a soft reset
- returning messages like 'disk full or write protected' when copying from desktop
The worst of it is losing a 126Mb wmv file during one of these false 'disc write protected/full' events.
There has to be a serious issue with the OS that has to be fixed.
How do we build a poll of users with this problem?
Folks,
I have a reply from a message I sent to [email protected] last week:
Hello Bart,
Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC regarding the problems you are having with your HTC Advantage device.
Bart, we regret to see that you are having problems with the micro drive in your HTC Advantage device. If you could forward us several examples of other users having the same issues, we will forward them to our product development team for resolution. Please forward me the following information for each example:
* Serial Number
* IMEI
Identity
* OS Version -
* Radio Version -
On receipt of enough examples for these issues, we will be able to prioritize the resolution of this problem.
How can we collect this information so we can provide a united front to HTC?
Do we need a moderator to post a 'sticky' message at the top of this forum?
Btw to get this info
* Serial Number
- inside the battery compartment door flap
* IMEI
- inside the battery compartment door flap
or
- Start >> Seetings >> System Tab >> Device Infomation icon >> Identity
* OS Version -
- Start >> Seetings >> System Tab >> Device Infomation icon >> Version
* Radio Version -
- Start >> Seetings >> System Tab >> Device Infomation icon >> Version
Thanks
Bart
I'd like to contribute...
Did we get anywhere with this issue with HTC? I think it's a great idea, at least for the principle of the thing, to get them working on this (even if someone else can solve the problem better and faster). We could each submit a tx, but creating the "petition" for help that they seem to want would at least get some results. My reservation would be that we would be suckered into what seems like manipulative behavior on their part. After all, they are not government and we are not lobbyists.
I'm working on fixing it myself, but why are they releasing stuff I have to fix out of the box? If we can't get them to spend thier money & time fixing this stuff, we'll keep getting crap we have to fix, right? So where do we go from here? Anywhere?
I only get flaky when I'm on 128dpi
My MD seems to work acceptibly well on either 192 or 96, it's when I shift to 128 that things start to disapear, etc.
Hmmmm. Would, perhaps, this be a result of lame drivers?
Hello all, Dutman here. My g1 works flawlessly and it is rooted(JF 1.43) but I seem to have a problem. when I connect it via usb the LED lights up and it shows me it's charging,, but it doesn't ask me to mount files or the USB in general. This could be due to the fact that I am missing the little usb cover piece, the one that is like really bendable, it sort of fell off. I don't have that anymore, could that be the problem in why my G1 isn't syncing?
Try rebooting your phone, i found sometimes with JF firmware for one reason or another the mount does not work after long periods of use... probly nothing but worth a try. If you are using a Windows 2000, XP, or Vista computer, it should just work automatically so my advice would be to try it on another computer to determine if your computers the issue.

Not likely. Power cycle your G1 as suggested by crackmunky and verify that your USB host controllers are functioning correctly within Device Manager.
If you are using a USB hub, try plugging directly into the PC. I've had no end of trouble syncing windows mobiles in the past when connecting through a hub.
Trouble syncing
Okay, My G-1 is connected through the USB 2.0 cable directly to my computer and it is not recognizing it at all. I open the My Computer link, and it says that there is a Mobile phone. And it has a removable hard drive thing. But I click on the removable HD link and it tells me to insert a disc. And I click on the phone, and it is telling me there is nothing there. Please help, I would really like to sync up with my PC at home so that I can add music and tones to my phone.
OS is Windows XP SP2
G-1 is Firmware 1.1
does the phone show that there is an SD card in it?

If you look at the taskbar on the top of the G1 screen, you should see the USB icon up there on the left. Drag that taskbar down (same as you drag your Menu up) and you should see a bar that says "USB Connected". Click that bar and you will get an option to Mount your device.
I had the very same issue when I first got my G1. It took me forever to realize I could drag the top taskbar down.
When I open the SD Card cover on my phone the system unmounts the disk. I suspect that it has everything to do with your missing dust cover.

I bought mine retail the week of valentines day, maybe it is a different version. I'm running the stock ROM 1.1, I didn't get it OTA in a timely fashion so I forced it. Three days is fine for a spread, but "by the end of the month maybe" is stupid.
Hello
As i gave the title : HTC HD2 a lot of problems.
I have htc hd2 with official ROM 1.66 french, more than 75 mb free memory on the device.
SD card = 16 go
before writting here i tried a lot of combination!
1-formated my sd card by the pc (fat32 and sctor size is 16 or 32) or by the phone but i have the sames problems!
2-i did a flash and hard reset many times.
first, when trying to copy to my HTC HD2 using activsynchro or mindows mobile centre a lot of file can not be copied to the device with a error message from windows 7 such as device not connected. (false message because device is connected because i can browse the folders inside the device)
Second, i downloaded some correcting cabs from this site, like zoomer and bsb tweaks wich i can not install, the device tell me that installation is impossible either on the device nor on the SD card..
Third, i copied some photos in bmp format but i cannot see them on the phone.
forth, tomtom 7.918 can not see more than one map on the SD card (i have france and WE but he can not see both of them
I can continue to write here for more than 3 pages of bugs and problem with this device without speaking about the intelligence of htc to put the reset buttom below the cover of the battery, since it blocs every 5 min, the cover is never in its place
I have a kaiser and a touch cruise and i was very satisfied from htc but with this gadget (450€) i am starting to change my mind
there will be any solution?
Thank for help if any
if you notice carefully, most of the bugs you mention seem to be directly related to your sd card. i have a strong feeling that your device is fine but your sd card is faulty/fake. search this forum for more threads about problems caused by fake sd cards. i am using a 8 gb sandisk card since my kaiser and it worked fine in the kaiser as well as in the hd2.

You know if you put stuff on your SD card being connected to the computer, I think you need to "eject" the phone prior to see the files on the mobile/ its like this when i setup a USB connection as opposed to "active sync" or "windows mobile connection".
Anyway, yes lot of your problems seems to be not about HTC but other things...
However, yes, completely dumb design to have put the reset there especially as we have to use it very often.
I also find really stupid that "POWER ON" button on the front... What's happening if you completely turn off the device? Well it can be turned on by mistake in the pocket (happened lot of times to me). Then it "start", make some loud noise, then goes to the "pin unblocking code".
Well done, HTC, if the device is off, in the pocket, its possible to turn it on, make noise, block it by mistake...
dumbs...
Also its not possible by default to put vibration in the same time than ringing for incoming calls... how dumb, especially when this extremely loud device "outside" is becoming "quietly deadly" in the pocket (or quietly brillant :/ )
Or that we can't hear it when it's in the pocket in that leather HTC bag-
etc...
ActiveSync has never been very good for copying files... It's slow and sometimes fails to transfer certain files in my experience from using it with a Trinity, Diamond, Diamond2 and HD2... Use the disk transfer mode and you shouldn't have any trouble...
My Tomtom can see both of my maps so I don't know what you're doing wrong...
All the little problems I had with my HD2 vanished when I finally decided to flash a cooked ROM so youmight want to give that a go...
And not that it makes any difference, but I see that you're an SFR subscriber, so if you got the phone from them, you probably got the phone for less than 100€ like myself...

Tomtom can see one carte one time, if i put them together, he does not do
I finally returned to my old sandisk 2Gb carte but i still have some problems and phone blocks and i need to do a reset!
