just had a guy at ppcgeeks tell me Android is to the mobile market what Linux is to the desktop market. talk about having your heads in the clouds. im soo glad i ditched winmo and moved to the hero. after seeing the disaster of wm7 today i made the right move.
Wow haha... that man has been misinformed obviously. MyTouch 3G? Droid? Nexus One? The only Android phone I could really say that would fit his description would be the Samsung moment (haven't heard of many people with one).

Cant and wont agree with the comment from the guy at PPG, however the 7 phone is far from a disaster and I fully believe that it will bring WinMo back from the dead...even more so than WebOS did for Palm. Its look features, and functionality beats the **** out of everything on the market except Android. Anyway, I'm with Android to stay (though maybe not Sence next time around).

Meanwhile, you can expect a bit of cockiness from the WM guys. I know, I used to be one!
I think the Winmo 7 phone will be decent. Yes it's a totally new UI for it and the apps aren't backwards-compatible, but hacks will eventually come out for it.

Recovering the costs of new development, and gathering anticipated profits to MS (or any other large company) will have to be realized before any new stuff is released. So they will slow the industry momentum down in order to maximize the money that can make. Money is fine. Slowing everything down sucks.
Now they can slow things down by screwing up others, ie.. specifications for open systems designs and so forth.
Only when they see their customer base being reduced (-14% winmo) will they react.
Google on the other hand supplies a "cloud base" and should be impervious to change costs on platforms. That could mean the introduction of new platforms and system upgrades. Certainly a more open environment.

they dont hate the HD2, they just hate the fact that MS/HTC supposedly promised them WM7 and now have rescinded on that "promise".
HAHAHA I love it. Great stuff A+++ would watch again.
OMG.
Not a natural behavior.
just read today that Microsoft is not upgrading the HD2 with Win Mo 7
via HTC Pedia, so what does everyone thinks?
i bought the device regardless of whether it would get an upgrade to win7, i dont see where the hate comes from, people buy a device and then expect a major os upgrade in a years time when new devices will already be on the market?

Seriously, we NEED this launcher on HD2 to make it the best phone ever, since SPB Mobile Shell will be available on Android AND WinMo. It's not about to be leaked before a very long time, but I hope this thread will be dug out by early 2011.
They, SPB, have been talking about V5 since Feb 2010. They said it was to be released to OEM/Dealers this month. Go to their forums and see how they BS everyone. SPB is very poor in support. Beleive it when you have it on your phone.
It was released to device manufacturers about a week ago. Its finished. They are not BSing anybody. It looks awesome... a major step up from 3.5! And yes, the new version is available for android also!
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Other than a few improvements to widgets it looks pretty much the same as the 3.5 version I've already got on my phone.
Actually I cant wait for spb Mobile Shell to be released on Android. Most people who use Mobile Shell for windows Mobile knows about my ProPlus themes and I want to be able to bring ProPlus to Android aswell.
I just hope it will be available for public sale though as spb seem to only be releasing 5.0 to Manufactureres and Carriers.
Mark.

Did you not read my post? It might never be available to download if they only ship it to carriers and manufacturers to put in new phones only.
Mark.
when the folders open like the favorite contacts it opens like the ui in ios 4 folders
"...SPB Mobile Shell 5.0, which works on Android, Symbian, and Windows Mobile devices. Unfortunately, this is not something you can download. SPB is targeting OEMs and carriers to deploy this software."
That kind of sucks because iv'e been following the development of 5.0 for a long time now and WAS excited. Knowing this, however, kind of bumbed me out. Guess i figured it'd be a quick update from 3.5 or maybe another full payment to download it.
Didn't figure i'd have to get a new phone..although, if this U.I. comes with the new phones, i'd feel a bit dupped...seeing that theirs came free with the phone but we dished out cash for ours.
Let's just hope there will be a leak before 2011.

Its not going to be available to anyone other than OEM's as they are releasing it in kit form for the carriers to add their own finishing touches. There was a post in the Spb Mobile Shell forum on the 7th which you actually replied to. If it does get ripped out of a phone then unfortunately it wont be available on xda as im sure it will be a licensed package and therefore considered warez.

Yes I think so. If you extracted something out of that ROM that others have to pay for, then it is still "warez". It's not opensource.

Maybe not, after all, it's not even proposed for sale to the customers, only manufacturers. I mean, HTC has not been making an issue about the use of Sense running on other phones it wasn't supposed to, right?

that really depends on the company's attitude toward it. HTC seems to be treating the Sense thing the same way adobe treats it.
if you download it illegally, and use it long enough, you will get hooked and want to buy it.
i mean, how many people upgraded to a native sense android phone. after using sense on their g1's
I agree that this should be treated like ROMs with Sense. Since it's not available for the public to buy, it's shouldn't be considered warez.
If it won't be on xda it'll be on some other page who cares.. What SPB does is not customer friendly they hyped it long time ago and now again and tell us that we probably won't get it.. pff we will get it for sure
Anybody else read this yet??

OMG
It's already happening
But no one has posted this in WP7 updates thread, weird .
I don't care this has just made my day
I'm really looking forward to WM7 hopefully in the future something like

instead of
WM 6.5/SDroid
can exist!

I can't believe.
This old machine runs everything. Is the most versatile device of all.
Go, Go, Go HD2
Yes it's cracked but there's a catch!
Yes it is confirmed that it is possible to bypass it, however it requires an activation key to be dumped from an already live WP7 handset.
The Caveat to this is that each key can only be used a limited number of times - 3 apparently, and if its used more than this amount of times all devices assigned to the key will lose the ability to access live services.
So seems there's still some work to be done before a viable solution is found..

Tell that to them .
Now in U.S. law, jaibbreaking is not technically illegal. (What other countries' laws are would have to be researched by those concerned.) But, it seems that bypassing Microsoft's cloud security is another issue altogether. From a legal (not technical) point of view, it appears to be similar to hacking a version of Microsoft's Windows operating systems to appear as though it had been activated so that it can download security patches and other Microsoft software. The flashing of a new ROM on a phone itself in terms of Windows Mobile has been a gray issue with Microsoft. It is certainly hoped that flashing a WP7 ROM onto the HD2 would fall under this gray area, but cloud verification is the fly in the ointment, I assume.
At any rate, the current method of bypassing Microsoft's cloud security is not a feasible solution for the common variety of XDA-Developers flashers, as pointed out in this link in one of the above posts.
Our discussions here seem to be nothing more than academic at this point.

Can I ask seriously why would you want to go from open source to so locked down you can't even wipe your butt without bill gates' permission??? AFAIK the only non-WP7 phone to run WP7 is the HTC HD2, and I belive thats because of similarities with the HD7. It wont run on the Atrix. Ever.
Not one person on this forum would Ever put WP7 on this phone. So asking is slightly funny to say the least. No one who owns an Android would go through the hassle of putting dated crap software on their fast running Android Phone. It would be like Apple coming out and saying Hey by the way we are going to load all of our computers with Windows Vista from now on lmao.

Think at this point, Android is to Microsoft as Halo/Gears is to Microsoft..... one massive cash cow.
My Dell Venue Pro runs nearly just as smooth and fast as my OC Atrix. I know WP7 will never run on this (and I don't want it to), but it's not that bad really and yes you can load ringtones and notifications thru Zune but it's a pain. Given all the money Microsoft is throwing at it and the fact that almost 40% of HTC devices sold are running it...it's not going anywhere and will only get better. It'll never be Android but that's kinda the point...we already have Android.
Microsoft isn't trying to stop Android...they're gonna make $480 million a year from it as is lol.

I would. I feel that WP7 is THE best OS out there now. Why did I not get it? Lack of apps and i caught the "flashing disease"
It would certainly be fun to try out mango on the atrix. Actually the OS is very fast and stable, but its rather imposible to make it work on a hardwarewise non-standard wp7 phone. Id say one might have more luck with win8/wp8, since that one apparently has tegra2 driver support etc.
Well many ROM junkies like myself would try it out if it was available. But I would definitely not switch to WM7 on permanent basis.
Having said that, there is to little demand and too much effort needed into porting it, so it won't be available on the atrix ever.
