Battery Drain, Possible Help - Imagio General

My 1st Imagio had no problem with battery, but the "end" key broke so I had a replacement sent. The replacement had nicks on screen and major battery drain, with overnight charge, by 3:00pm I had 5% left. So I sent for 2nd replacement. Same problem with the battery, fully drained by midday. Frustrated, I went to Verizon and requested replacement battery. All seemed well at first. Then, the new battery began to drain. I started eliminating programs running and now, at 10:00pm, I still have 72%, I talked, texted, sent pic mssg, got email, updated weather...etc. This is what I changed.
I turned the phone to CDMA only.
I changed input back to default HTC qwerty (I had sip change to swype)
I set email to check once a day, but I hit send/receive periodically
I set weather to check once a day.
Sorry, but I also uninstalled "codyppc performance booster"
I reinabled Auto Divice lock. (this seemed to help save battery by locking)
I am running spb mobile shell 3.5 and WM 6.5 interface. Whenever I run the HTC Touchflo3D it seems to drain more battery, along with suck up memory.
I check running applications often, reset a couple times a day. I am having an issue with my spb time alarm going off in the morning though. I will try something tonight to eliminate that as the culprit. Overall, I think anything set to run regularly will drain the battery. With these fixes, now I LOVE THIS PHONE. I have all my programs on it, lots of program and storage memory left, (more than I had out of the box) tweaked just the way I like. Hope this helps someone.

Did anyone find this helpful???
Just wondering if I had isolated issues or if anyone else tried and got results...

i posted about it. the battery life can be fairly attrocious for several reasons. Mainly OEM settings & Poorly stored batteries.
With some fairly medium use (google maps, few camera shots a day. Maybe 20-30 minutes worth of streamed video via CorePlayer, or a hacked HAVA program) i still have some battery life the next morning. (Not a day and a half worth, but enough to make it from one morning till the next).
My first battery was trash, but my second has been perfectly fine. Unfortunately doing everything you've already said. Forcing CDMA only & installing no-push internet cab was the biggest help. (Left email & weather on update every 30min)
The idle time for me (overnight with no charge) seems to be better not running TF3D also. If I know Itll be awhile before I can charge it's the first thing that get's disabled. I love TF3D, but SBP shell is nice also.
Eh... My regular useage will typically last around 24-36 hours before the phone wont cut on anymore. Good enough for me I guess. Mostly depends on how much I voice call during the day. (lotta test/mms)
Anywho. Long post for telling you that I dont know what else you can do. At some point it'll boil downt o being a smartphone & while in use it'll devour it's battery???

Actually... I didn't see you had installed no-push internet. You need to if you haven't. When you open a data connection many times it wont close by itself. So you can set your email, weather, etc to check every day & after it cheks it. Itll stay on all day. :\

No Push Internet
Thanks for the feedback. I do have no push internet also. In addition to previous post, I have tried to run Facebook and the battery drained in a couple of hours. I love the phone though. I may buy the extended battery... then it will last 4 hours instead of 2????

WIth my first Imagio I ran push email and TF3D. I had no battery issues to speak of. After a full day I would be at 30-40%. Memory was an issue though and then the end key broke.
With my replacement I tried SPB MS 3.5 and had outrageous battery drain, 4 hours off the charger and I was down to 25%. WHen I remove SPB I am back to what I will call acceptable battery performance. I finally turned off TF3D and got a couple of widgets for the plain jane today screen. I can live with the battery life and I am not resetting 1 or 2 times a day to revover memory.
Cant wait for the unlock and custom roms!!

how do you get the weather to update every 30 min?

this would help if it really works if i get one i will let you all know how it does.

HTC Touch = BAD Battery Life (Help)

I've had my HTC Touch on CDMA/Bell Canada for about half a year now. I love the phone but the battery life just sucks. I can't get through a full day without having to plug in. Where I work and where I live the CDMA signal is weak. My phone is constantly flipping back and forth between X1 and EVDO and voice calls are not very reliable.
I know things like Push mail, GPS...and other data agressive applications will drain the battery, however even when I turn everything off except for the phone itself I can't get through a fully day.
I suspect my phone is constantly busy trying to maintain a connection to the cell network. Does anyone have any tips on how I could help get better battery life?
Leon.

It is very hard to provide you with any help when we really don't know what you have installed and running on your phone. Some plugins can drain your battery while they are running - EG - WeatherPanel - Try not to let this program keep running if you have it installed - especially with animated weather icons. Reduce the brightness of your display screen if you can manage that. Make sure that your display is shutting off as well. Keeping the display on will surely drain your battery. Set it to shut off after so many seconds of inactivity. Take a look at your task manager to make sure that you don't have many programs running in the background - and set your task manager to actualy close programs when you tap on the x as it is default setting to just minimize your apps and not close them. If they are all running in the backgroung, you will surely see battery drain.
With a bare bones configuration my battery would last around 10 hours before I had to plug in. All I had running was basically my phone and some light web surfing.
I've since loaded up my phone with a apps/plug-ins and my battery last about 5 hours now sometimes less. I am running some apps which do things in the background:
-Weather Panel, no animated graphics (Auto update every 6 hours)
-HTC HUB (Auto update every 6 hours)
-Push Email (Zimbra mail, looks like Exchange)
-Pull Email (Gmail) every 30 minutes
Even if I can get all these applications to be much less power hungry, I'll get at most 10 hours. I'm hoping to get multiple days of battery life, not just hours.
While on holiday I turned off the phone, went into Flight mode for a week, but still used GPS on occassion. My batteries then lasted days!
Thanks for your suggestions about those apps.
I can almost go more than half a day, which is enough to get me from my house, to work (or wherever I go), and back home. I'm thinking I should get a spare charger for my office though.
But I have running:
FlexMail, with 2 IMAP accounts, and Live account
Palringo or Live Messenger (depends which ROM I'm using !)
Some Opera browsing
Occasional GPS
Some MP3's
And the obvious phone calls
Ohh, and when I get bored, some Kevtris!
I leave work at 4pm, and when I arive at work the following day at 7am, I'm usually at 20% battery life, and that's with it being plugged in via usb for at least 3-5 hours during the evening. Barebones flash, with SPB Mobile Shell 2.0, and that's about it. It's a bummer, having to stay close to a usb port or wall outlet.
I did notice, my normal power consumption is 150-250mAH, however when I plug in to usb, it jumps to 400-500mAH, sometimes higher. That is with activesync or without, doesn't seem to make a difference.
Well, I don't know about Zimbra, but I know the SEVEN push service absolutely *destroyed* my battery life. I just set my phone to check my Gmail every 5 min, and it's good enough for me, with much better battery life.
That said, your problem is your location. Your phone will burn a lot of juice if you work in a basement or dead zone trying to find towers. There's not really anything you can do about it, other than turn off the phone radio when you know you're going to be out of range, but of course, that defeats the purpose of having a cell phone.
Get a new job, get a 2nd battery, or plug it in at work. Smart phones don't have great battery life to begin with, and if you are getting a weak signal, you are just out of luck.
[EDIT]
Or, you can try one of those Sprint base stations. You may not be able to set one up at work, but you can at least do it at home. Should help some.
I got an extended battery (Seidio 2000 mAh) and my phone lasts for more than 24 hours now, probably 2 days if i let it go without a charge long enough.
Like right now I have had a bunch of phone calls, done a bunch of texting, played some kevtris and my phone has a lot of stuff installed on it. It's been off the charger since 9:30AM and its 4:40PM now and the battery is at 81%.
Before I got the extended battery my phone would probably be at less than 50% at this point in time. The extended battery does make the phone A BIT bulkier, but its really not that big of a difference to me.

[Solved] Battery usage

So im trying to figure out where my battery is draining to... I cannot go a full day on a battery charge and its really annoying at night it jsut dies and plus i cant really do too much on it for fear of battery drainig itself. Is there a way.. i can check to see what might be taking up battery
Wifi off
GPS Off
no 3G in the US
Bluetooth Off
Push Mail off... (though am syncing 3 mail accounts every 2 hours... minimal mail though)
Internet usage 30 minutes (besides, weather stocks)
Phone usage .. about 60 minutes in the day
Gyrator on
General usage.. games, tinkering etc (60 minutes... hey its still relatively new)
Appreciate the input.
Strange..
I've got two mail accounts, talked for 15 minutes with a bluetooth headset (been connected all day).
From 06 in the morning until now at ten in the evening I still have 7 bars on the battery. (three in the TF3D)
Consider doing a hard reset and set up stuff and see if that helps..
After tinkering for a couple of weeks, I hard reset and just put back on what I want. I also used Tweak HD which has a few tweaks to lengthen battery life. It made a big difference to me.
Orinigally it had drained in about 18 hours, afterwards it went slightly over 40 hours.
this is strange - i use my phone alot and it easily lasts 2 days
have you tried replacing it? when i bought my first diamond it was faulty, replaced it and batteyr life changed
also try flashing a stock rom on again and see what happens - less than a day - defo not right!
diamond v hd
had 3 diamonds, battery was lucky to last 10hrs, ate 2680mA battery packs like jaws ate boats!
HD, charge 1 every 2 days.... huge improvement... would love it to last longer, but its a million times better than the diamond and thats all that matters...
HD battery life in conclusion, is great, and i do hammer my phone usage!
I'm seeing similar battery issues as the OP. I barely make it through a 12 hour day on a charge, although I get a lot of e-mail on 2 accounts (one checked every 15 minutes, the other every 2 hours). In an effort to track down battery drain, I downloaded and installed HomeScreen PlusPlus and find that at rest with screen intensity at 60% my HD draws 150 mA, with the screen dimmed at 10% it draws 70 mA, and in standby (blank screen) it's drawing 30 mA. When the data connection is active, it draws between 250-300 mA, and when using the phone with screen on about 400 mA. I figure that with those numbers and a 1350 mA battery, 10-12 hours is all I can expect. If anyone else is monitoring their battery draw, I would appreciate seeing your numbers for comparison.
Oooh this is a good idea...
anyone else done homescreen++ to find battery drainage.. im going to get to it this weekend...
Have the same issue.... I have nothing special installed and for some reason it drains very fast on basic features.....
Same issue here
Recently I've been getting less than 12 hours out of a full charge. I've uninstalled a few things and turned bluetooth and wifi off and today it seems better with about 80% left after 10 hours
Vaguely considering a hard reset if the problem continues...
have fixed certain aspects now using the new version of Tweak HD
For our benefit.. could you please tell us...
1) your version of Tweak HD
2) WHat did you do to improve battery life
Thanks
Progress
So I installed Homescreen++ to be able to monitor my battery utilization... and im averagin 150mA to 350mA with it being closer to 300mA most of the time... no wonder I am getting 10-12 hours of battery life.. and this is with the device not doing anything.. except cehcking mail accounts.. NOTHING else...
I really need help with this.. every night at around 9:00pm.. i am without battery and its driving me nuts...
short of a hard reset... what can I do to monitor what programs or processes are taking up my battery?
I really feel your pain. I must recharge during the day everyday. I've ordered a second battery, but it hasn't arrived yet. I've done all I can do with HD Tweak and Schap's Advanced Config, even turned the screen brightness down further to no avail. I don't want to hard-reset, but I'm going to give that a try this weekend. Before I do, If any of you experiencing good battery life has a few moments and is willing to install HomeScreen ++, please post your numbers to compare to ours (mine are in a previous post). The download link is:
http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_batterystatus_xda_neo_wm5_im_cs.htm#Download
It can easily be uninstalled through "Remove Programs" later.
Thanks in advance for your help; I am so enamored with this amazing device that I can't bear to give it up!
Battery life much better than my Kaisers...

Apparently Batti uses a lot of battery (ironically).
I've just replaced it with Ariel battery and will let you know how it goes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364278
I'm not running Batti.
I have been through an Apache, a Blue Angel, a Hermes and most recently a Kaiser before springing for this amazing Blackstone. All my previous devices made it through at least a full day before requiring a recharge.
My ROM is 1.14.405.3 and Radio is 1.09.25.14
I'm thinking of springing for the HD, I currently have a Hermes. Battery life is a major concern of mine, and on my Hermes I had to purchase a larger battery with the extended back plate.
Does the HD turn off the screen when not in use or is it on all the time? Also how does it do with WiFi on?

Battery\power consumption issue

hi, i am having a bit of a problem, i have searched the forums but could not find much relevant. my X1's battery is really struggling.
On one occasion i managed to get 22 hours out of it, but the average is between 9 and 12. I lock my keypad and turn the backilight off when its in my pocket, i have it set to update rss and e-mails every 4 hours, i downloaded an app that switches the modem connection off after 1 mins idle time, i never use wifi and i haven't even been making any calls, and dont use any apps, ie games ect. i send a few sms, and after 9 hours away from a power supply, my hungry beast is down to 10% battery. i can not work out where my power is going. as i said i have searched the forums, and my phones settings, but can not find anything to help. if there are threads with answers please link me to them, or if you can help, please tell me
1) are there any power management apps that i can download to monitor and control the power usage
2) is there anyway to prevent the modem auto connecting whenever it finds an Edge\Gprs|hsdpa\whatever signal, as i am convinced this is the main culprit. even with rss\email updates switched off, the phone is ever connecting to the network
3) how are people who claim to be getting 24 hours+ with extensive browsing, calling, gps'ing and wi-fi'ing actually achieving this
4) would the rom firmware update help with my problem
(apologies, the question mark key on my laptop has returned to the big keyboard in the sky!)
any help anyone can provide would be much appreciated, as i am afraid to use the awesome features my phone has, for fear it will die.
thanks a lot
Have you got any shell applications runinng (TouchFlo, full SPB)?
Else sounds like your battery is fooked.
Weird
Well, how long have you had it? In my first week I was getting about the same, but now in my second week it's improving with charge/discharge cycles.
I don't use data connections but use Wifi/BT quite a bit and listening to music and it will last a day now.
Trying using just edge and lower your screen brightness to 20-30% when you use it.
I had a similar problem when I updated to the R2 ROM and installed some applications... primarily AEButton plus and S2U2 (although I believe it was AEButton that was the culprit here...), I would get 13 hours or so before the phone went down to 30% from full charge... I uninstalled both programs and then got 84 hours with moderate use (lots of sms, few mb internet and a few calls (about an hours worth)... so I am wondering if you have either of these installed or if its an app that is causing the problem... (I now have AEButton 2.6.6 installed and after 6 hours its only dropped 10% with quite a bit of internet use (mainly edge) and a few sms's)...

I've tried S2U2. And as I've stated in another thread, it is indeed a battery drainer.

That's not true at all. Just activate the energy saving option.
My battery lasts for 5 days now, longer than ever before. Cannot say if it's the effort of S2U2, but it's definitely not draining faster than without it.

Energy saving option?
EDIT: Just found out I'm running a really old version. Updating
had the phone for about 3 weeks now, tried charging and draining it a few times, still on the vanilla ROM, and i did have one of the interfaces installed (cant remember what it was called, not touch flo though) but i removed it. i hope the battery is not tits, but how can i test. i will try the brightness\edge only thing, so as for my 4 questions, no answers then(question mark)
thanks for the advice!
Guys,
I have installed SPB Phone Plus, Inesoft software and digital clock on my X1, do you mean that it will consume more battery power with these programs installed?
I notice that my X1 now only last a day while before the R2AA upgrade, it can at least last me 2 days.
Mine had the same problem during the first week or so. Now i can leave it 12 hours without charging and if i don't touch it, the battery stays at the same level.
eh, how come u all battery so fast flat 1??
mine can stay for almost 1 day.. listen to music always.. always connected to HSDPA/3G/EDGE/GPRS... listen music through wired, play game little while.. no wifi..
in da morning 7am, full... go skool, listen music whereever i can.. surf net.. then come bak to home at 6.. is got around 4bar of "power" settings ther..
I've also had a problem with my battery. It wouldn't last through the night. I installed a process monitor this morning and I suspect the culprit is S2U2 v1.37. I've just updated it to v1.45 and I'm about to test again.
For those using this version what settings do I need to enable Power Save? Is it just the registry entry or should I be changing something else in the settings?
I had been worried about the battery before I bought my X1 and I ran across a WM 'bug' which could be the problem (I'm sorry, I don't have the source because it was a while ago and I was just browsing before I bought).
It said that when WM runs for the first time it presumes full battery power and so will charge to whatever level the battery is at at the time and no higher.
Some people resolved this by either:
1) Charging when the device is off to increase the maximum charge
2) Hard resetting the device and fully charging before the first switch on.
I have to say, I use 1 hour of video, 15-30 minutes calls, 10-20 texts, 30 min web browsing, email/weather etc updates every 2 hours, 30 minutes 'bumming about' (games, file copying, tweaking) every day and get at least 2 days of use.
Overnight, (ie when not being used and for 8 hours) I have never dropped a bar of power.
I do not run any additional programs in the background, apart from the spb panel.

Well I tested this and I can confirm that v1.45 of S2U2 does indeed save power. My battery was 90% last night and was the same this morning.

the power save in s2u2 is quite annoying isn't it? i had that on and when im listening to music through the media xperience panel, it just goes to lock the device (when the idle time is up) and stop the music. Its annoying as hell.
Plus whenever im watching videos (still with the panel), it just lock the device again.
Thats it, no s2u2 for me. Uninstalled it right after that
i had the same problem until i installed a cooked rom on it....now i get about 3-4 days....i recently tried installing a few different ones and the battery life fell again....but thry installing this

Sorry, what program is S2U2? Where to download?
When I just got my phone back in November last year, my battery kept draining quite fast (empty within about 15 hours). By now even though I still use it as much as back then, the battery easily last twice as long if not thrice as long. I now manage to have it last for more then 2 days.
I notice power drain when I had SPB phone software installed and also after alarm go off in G-Alarm. With the spb phone, i think it's because of the repeating reminders option, didn’t really tested out, just uninstalled and X1 hold battery pretty well.
In the F-Alarm, after alarm went off it, seemed like only display did turned off and the device didn’t really suspended\turned off. And the battery could drop about 10% within a few hours. Soft reset stopped enormous consumption…
That’s my experience for now, hope helps someone..

How often do you recharge your Hero?

hi,
I would like to know how often you recharge your Hero?
With moderate to low usage I'm recharging every day and I'm thinking that autonomie on my Hero is really very bad. Before I used Polaris and I had to recharge every 2 or 3 days.
I'm thinking that maybe my phone have manufacture default. On official web page they say that autonomy on standby is 440 hours, its like 15 days, mine keeps barely 1 day, wtf!!!
Even during night when I don't use it all and put on plane mode battery loses 20%.
whitealien
i recharge everyday with mild usage. gaming - usually keep it plugged in.
with moderate usage i recharge my GSM Hero every 2-3 days. by moderate i mean, like 1h Wifi, 2h mp3, 0.5h phone usage, 1.5h online activity over 3G.
Thats about it. And even if i multiply the usage above by two, it will last two days.
During flightmode inthe night, it loses about 5-10%.
so it seems something is sucking really bad on your battery!
Cheers,
Chaos42
I would say I charge mine every 2-3 days. I'm a relatively low user but wifi is on all of the time and I use it for browsing a bit in the evenings when I don't have my PC turned on. GPS, mobile web and bluetooth is off for the most part.
My wife has the same phone and her battery life is a little shorter than mine but she has the mobile web on and uses hers a bit more then me so I would guess around 1.5-2 days.
My battery is rated at 1350mAh which I think is standard.
I have to charge it every day.
Unplug it from charger at 0700 and by 2200 it has less than 10% battery.
But I have WiFi on for over twelve hours a day, mobile web on and quite a few things updating online!
Background apps may be draining your battery
Hi whitealian,
Check the application list to see which applications are running in the background. One of them may be draining your power.
You can check the task list using Estrongs File Explorer (start the app, then menu->Task Manager). There are plenty of other task managers, of course...
In my case, I think it was ShopSavvy that was running in the BG. Once I removed it the battery performance was much better. See this post.
You can also use one of the apps that turn on/off wifi based on location. A quick market search finds "Y5 - Battery Saver". Haven't tried it myself yet!
Good luck!

Thanks for advice. I was not using ShopSavvy, but I had doubts that either I got faulty device or some app is draining battery.
I called customer service and they advice me to put phone in safe mode and test it for awhile. It extended a little my battery life, but still recharge every day. Next step was to reset to factory default. This is what I did yesterday and now I'm at the end of second day since last charge and I still have 40% left, what seems to be normal, but still a little to early to judge that everything is good.
I still don't know from where battery drain was coming. Probably from some app.
I'm putting my bet on NewsRob - google feed reader. It was the only app that was using network in background (apart from mail and tweeter sync).
too often. mostly once a day.
but when i'm at home im ususally plugging the as adaptor in either way, because i'm afraid to have to little battery left if i leave the house without a 100% battery level. (this can happen fast if you sync a lot of rss feeds, surf the net, have an exchange server connection and gmail push and so on...)
They really need to make better batteries. They should last 2-3 days on full force usage.

I think once every 2 days, but at night I have the ''phonestuff'' turned of using it as an alarm clock only. I do use the mobile internet connection all day. Tried once without that and got almost 4 days out of one charge.
I agree they have to make better battery's but I don't think the hero's that bad.
I had a diamond wich I had to charge almost twice a day when data was on...
So for me the hero's a big improvement.
I too get 2 to 3 days use out of a charge. Got rid of standard HTC Twitter client and replaced with Twidroid Pro. Only have Gmail push synchronization on.
I am pretty sure you are aware if the standard HTC SMS app battery drain issue?
Someone pointed out that HTCs SMS app constantly drains the battery, because it stopps the phone from entering standby mode. You can replace it by going into Applications menu, open "Messages", "Clear defaults" and install HandCent. As soon as a new SMS comes in, it will ask you which app you want to handle SMS messages. Choose HandCent, make it default and you are set.
Gave me a huge battery performance boost.
every day. that is the only bad issue of my hero.
I charge mine daily when I go to bed as it's usually giving me the 15% warning about 24hrs after I last charged it.
The joys of smartphones
At least once a day.
I've got a desk stand so it sit's in that for a constant juicing up, when im in the car I put it on to charge.. At work its on USB charge.. Basically I just juice it whenever I can..
I dont think theres anything wrong with yours.. they just have bad battery life.
If you think thats bad try the fossil palm powered watches.. i have to take it off every couple of hours to charge it!
Too often. Exchange, gmail, 1 additional pop3 inbox, facebook every 2hrs, twitter every 2hrs is enough for my phone to barelly hold a charge for a day. But when actually using the phone (music, calling), it doesn't hold even a day.

Tried it. I installed Handcent, but when I want to want to make it default, the button is greyed out. What am I doing wrong?

That's a US only thing though, right? The European ones don't suffer with that issue AFAIK.
...Which I'm glad about as I sometimes have to charge my hero twice a day. Data is on all the time when I'm out and I'm a pretty heavy user of it. In terms of calls perhaps an hour a day, and not a huge number of texts (more than ten would be unusual). I do use the phone to listen to music quite often too.
I think the apps in the background thing is what needs to be checked. I use a news widget and Facebook and Weather and a travel one which I think adds up to a lot of refreshes. I'm thinking about making a Sense Profile (or whatever it's called) that has nothing on the homescreens at all for times when I might want to be a bit more frugal with battery life.
I do think it's somewhat ridiculous that the phone is capable of doing so many things but that if you have it do them it withers and dies. I would've thought the way to calculate battery life would be to have the phone doing the things that people will want to do with it and work from there. It seems that battery life is calculated by turning the phone into as dormant a state as possible and then tip toeing around it trying not to disturb it.
I get by though.

Well, I cannot confirm that. I have a European one and mine drained the battery. I searched the net and with this trick I came from ~1 day to over 2 days with moderate usage and push enabled all the time.

Well, have you cleared the default for message application?
You probably want to google it or just read over this posts:

My battery went even better once I configured Locale to go into airplane mode during night time and stopping sync services during work time. I don't need push when I am at work (timescal set, no GPS), because there I have all my mailboxes open and directly connected.
Some more tipps to improve battery performance.
Disable 3G - Set to "only 2G" in mobile network settings
Set display timeout to 30s or lower
Remove as many widgets from your homescreens as possible (I only have calendar)
use task killer app to check which apps are still running in the background and try to tweak their settings to not autoload or don't notify you on updates - and of course kill them
disable screen animations
uncheck WLAN for location checking
don't check your mailboxes too regular
disable vibration totally. disable haptic feedback for the keyboard as well

[Q] Battery Drain? And Opera memory problem?

Updated to the new TMO ROM (3.14 and the new radio too) a few days ago and I've been noticing that my battery is draining too quick for comfort. Maybe I'm just paranoid because it's a new ROM but does anyone else lose ~6-10% a hour (standby + occasional texting)? And when I go online (using Opera 10 with or without wifi) or make a phone call, it feels like ~30% per hour.
Am I expecting too much from the battery or is this not normal?
PS. I already did a hard reset a couple of times after flashing the new ROM + countless soft resets after reinstalling a few cabs (CHT, Duttys, CleanRAM, EndKey, and Opera 10).
Thanks!
PPS. While I'm here...sometimes when I close Opera 10 and run other programs and then try to reopen Opera I get this warning: ***Cannot open 'Opera10-armv4i' a critical component is either missing or cannot start because program memory is unavailable.*** Then it tells me to check task manager and close programs and start again. But I have no other programs running and I use CleanRAM and I still can't open Opera. The only way I can reopen it is via a soft reset...
Is that also common?
I'm at 44% battery and I've been using it moderately all day since 7AM... That's 12.5 hours... Not too bad for me.
Hey, I just got an HD2 [TMOUS] and I installed NRGZ28's Energy ROM for the phone. I am new to this forum, but I know the rules since i Have been residing mostly around the Developers forum and the Excalibur forum. in any case, I did a lot of research last night on how to get the best battery life. I AM using Sense [I know that eats battery], but I removed pretty much everything I can think of from the homescreen that uses data connection. I turned my E-Mail to Update only when I tell it to ... i removed the weather panel [heard it could use up more battery due to effects] ... removed the FB panel (i can just use the app) ... and the twitter panel... Then I did as other guides said and turned off the "My Location" feature. I also did some reg tweaks I had read do some real good for the battery, and so far I have yet to notice any difference than before I did all that.
My report is that I loose about the same as the OP ... roughly 10% per hour. I mean, okay, 10 hours of battery life is OKAY IF I WERE ACTIVELY USING THE PHONE. I lose 10% when just going through the phone, not running games or music, or viewing photos or videos. Just on Sense, going to the Settings panel alot , through the Start Menu, and the lockscreen occasionally.
First off: Is that normal? Is there are more energy efficient ROM? What can I do?
Secondly: I am aware of Extended Batteries, and I have researched some of these too ... I heard the 1600 mAh one that fits in the satandard casing actually doesn't do much ... then there is a 2400 mAh (?) which requires its own back-casing because it is larger. I got an extended battery along those lines for my Excalibur, and was satisfied with how it made it easier to hold ... but does the bulk make THIS phone look worse? It sort of worked for the appearance of the Exca, but I feel like on this phone it would just look like a giant tumor ... Any recommendations? Any good standard size, expanded life batteries?
Thank You so much [in advance]!

Your battery should be lasting longer than 10 hours. Mine lasts 12 or more hours with FB Data, Twitter Data, Push email and all of that with moderate usage. Mostly texts and emails, twitter and FB. Do you have your Automatically Adjust Backlight box checked and the other options checked under sounds & display in settings-->Backlight?
Indeed. My battery lasts at least 12 hours, most of the time 14ish hours before needing to be recharged. Haveing the system regulate the backlight is the single greatest thing you can do to conserve battery life, and alot of people have it tuned off for some crazy reason.
Hmm...I had read that I should turn off the backlight auto-control and install "AutoBacklightSteps" (or "AutoBacklight") ... That is what I have now at least ...
Right now I have brightness set to 20% [on battery], and higher on external power. Auto- is turned off. I use the app to change the backlight setting when I need to, although I often don't.
Now I don't personally use phones very very often. Seeing as I am in school, and one of the few kids who actually takes notes and doesn't text in class, I will use it for maybe 30 minutes at most [cumulatively] from 7AM to 3PM. Today, I used my phone as I think I normally would ....actually probably much less. In any case, it is now 10:33 here and I have 55% battery life. This is how I ran the phone for the day:
6AM : Took the phone off the charger [100%]
6AM -> 7:30AM : Phone left relatively un-touched. [98%]
7:30 AM -> 2:45 PM : the "Phone" [in comm manager] is off, in 'Airplane Mode' ... relatively low use [@ 2:45 -> 89%]
2:45 - 3:30 : I had 'Phone' on, received text messages I had gotten throughout the day, then turned it off [87% / 88% ... my memory is a bit fuzzy]
3:30 - Now : I generally had the 'phone' off, and I was in airplane mode. I intermittently turned it on.. I played some games, watched some moves [with Window Media Player] (I literally watched like 5 minutes of Transformers to show off to my friend haha, then I was done with that) Not much else...
All day the screen's brightness was at 20%. I used the LEDs for some flash photos, and the flashlight very rarely. I did take a couple of photos randomly thoughout the day ... but that was it. Right now, [after having the phone ON for about 30 min], my battery is at 55%.
I have to say that isn't too bad. Maybe the reader just wasn't that accurate yesterday, or I was doing a lot more than i though I was hehe [Could be file transfers and such]... In any case ... is this normal? I do expect to use the device more and more later on, I will text more and such [use Web sparingly as I know it eats battery] ... if I can manage to get though a day without losing power entirely I'll be happy haha.
Oh, and just some 'stats' : Today I placed 5 Phone Calls, received/sent 10 SMS, used internet for maybe 15 Minutes. That is basically it [since I know that probably affects seeing if battery consumption is normal].
PS: If you noticed I have the phone in Airplane mode a lot, it is because the signal for T-Mobile doesn't get into my school ... something about the dropped ceilings or just the architecture prevents the signal from entering, so I just generally leave it in airplane mode.
In any case, I would like to thank you guys a lot for already responding to my prior post
