Hi there. Apologies if this question has been asked and answered, however I have searched the threads and not found anything.
I'm also a bit new to windows mobile devices, etc and don't even know how to 'tweak'!! .... so please humour me
All I'm looking to do is try to hide certain photos / pictures from being shown in the HTC Album.
If anyone could point me in the right direction then that would be greatly apreciated!
Thanks.
First of all, welcome to xda
Anyway, you can't stop specific images showing up in the album, but you can stop specific folders from showing up.
See tip 64 in the hints & tips link in my signature.
You'll need a registry editor, such as Resco or Total Commander (I use the latter because it's totally free, but Resco is a lot more finger friendly).
That's all you need to do it, but I guess you may need some help editing the registry. There's tons of threads in here telling you how to edit the registry, and you really should read as much of it as you can before you start. The registry is pretty darn important to windows and all applications running under it, and you can render your device near useless if you do something badly wrong. (This is unlikely, but definitely possible. I could tell you 1 registry value to change and you wouldn't be able to use your phone again without a factory reset!)
I'd highly recommend taking a backup of any registry values that you're going to modify, even if it's just pen and paper backups so you can set the values back later if you so wish.
Other than that, have fun tweaking. That link has MANY more tweaks in it, so have a read through it. It's a great place to start.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the reply. I'll have a look through the other threads as you've suggested, although I'm not too sure I trust myself that much!
I picked up on another article I found on the web, which seems to suggest that its possible to hide individual pictures? Copied below...
Note: Additionally, if you want to hide a specific picture, just set its attributes to hidden and it will not be shown in the Album application. Do that for all individual pictures you want to keep from the program.
easy. install resco file explorer. choose pic or any file u wanna hide. menu/properties nd check hidden. this way they wont show in album. default explorer cant hide. also u can choose encrypt in resco nd this way they will b hidden from album nd need a password if u try to open them in explorer. good software.

not many responses to this thread, so i don't know if anyone cares
but here is the solution, not too hard
1. on your phone fire up your favorite Registry Editor
2. go to HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored
a. if Ignored key doesn't exist create it
3. create a new String Value and name it anything you like
example: igo
4. set the Data for the new value to the full path of the folder to be ignored
example: \Storage Card\iGO8
note: all sub-folders will be ignored as well
5. restart your phone
note: the folder and it's sub-folders will not show up in Album
now that i can carry thousands of my photos with me
i realize that HTC Album gets crowded with sub-folders/albums
most are sub-folders with my photos and i guess i have to live with that
but also some system and miscellaneous folders show up
simply put a lot of finger scrolling
is there a way to hide / ignore certain sub-folders from HTC Album?
bumping
because i'd like to know if this is possible
i figured if windows and program files are hidden from the list,
there has to be a way to hide other unwanted folders
I don't think there is a way on the HD without something like resco explorer but, on your PC change the folder or file attribute to hidden before transferring to your HD.
bumping the solution
Thanks, this is great tip
tagging this so I can find it after each reflash
If you just want to keep photos out of TF3D album (so it will still appear in albums if ytou launch HTC Album but not in the TF3D tab) and it's easier: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1789
yopu just pick a folder as your favorite.

easy to use and powerful application
Hi, great tip by the way. Managed to hide the images coming from gAlarm. Is it possible to have the same thing for Music? I dont want those sound files from a third party app to be included in the ALL music tab, my quick fix is to use a playlist Thanks.
Excellent tip mate, surprised you haven't had many other responses!!
You are the Man!!!
I have been looking for away to do this for ages.
Ahh cool. Can this be made into some kind of batch file, so when you flash it can be added right back in?
Actually, is there a way to ignore everything and add the folders you want to include?

after you populate it the way you like export the Registry KEY
import after flash,
or
convert to XML or CAB and install
these topics are covered better elsewhere in this forum,
search for "UC or user customization" or SASHIMI

I am interested in that also. I have my phone record my calls as .mp3, and they show up as music in music player!
Excellent tips! Thanks a lot for sharing. Have been searching around for this solution. Some photos really cannot be seen by others, especially my kids. (U know what I mean?)
Wicked post!
This is a wicked post...
Been looking for how to do this for ages!
oh wow thanks hated seeing all those folders
This is a great info man, thanks.

Thanks for sharing it.

Hi,
Got rather a big problem. I installed Resto Explorer and was using it quite happily until the trial period lapsed. I did purchase the program as I liked it but got the wrong license generated and still waiting to hear from their support on getting it fixed. In the mean time I was unable to edit or do anything of substance.
So in my wisdom I decided to remove it for now. Big mistake! I am now unable to explore my phone as I cannot find the default explorer. I think I may have removed that from the start menu. OCD cleanliness you understand!!
So I cannot explore at all and thus cannot install anything to replace it.
Anyone know how I might recover from this one?
Cheers.
try installing total commander
Ok panic over. I used pcsync to copy a shortcut of fexplore.exe to start menu. Phew!
What someone mind posting the registy location and values of the default file explorer please so I can fully recover as it was and this time keep it there!!
Thanks.

Not quite sure what you expect to be stored in the registry for the file explorer. I've had a brief look and can't see anything in there. Just using it will set up any data storage that it uses. AFAIK it only needs to remember the last location it was in - nothing more.
Well at the mo all I have in the start menu now is "Shortcut to fexplore.exe". I woudl like to clean that up as far as possible to be what it it supposed to be.

Open file explorer and go to windows\start menu\programs and find the shortcut. Just rename it in there.
Incidentally, if you select an application, anywhere on your phone and do "Copy", you can then go to the above mentioned programs folder and do "Paste Shortuct". Just in case you lose any more shortcuts
Hi,
I am starting to grips with the HD2, and windows mobile slowly but surely. I'm now ready to take the plunge with the registry editor and file editor. A lot of people recommend Resco, so I have tried to install it from here http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/downloads.asp
I install the cab on the phone and ge the resco icno in the start menu, but when I click it it says
"The file ':RRegistry cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of it's components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring the files."
I tried installing it again but go the same message. What am I doing wrong?
And now I have another issue. I uninstalled it and non I have duplicate HTC People, HTC Footprints, HTC Calendar, HTC Music, and HTC Twiiter icons in the start menu. HOwever, the pictures of these 'new' icons are all the same, and are just look like blue and white folders. WHere have these come from and how do I get rid of them?
Cheers
I have installed Resco File Explorer without any problems. All I can suggest is that you remove it then reset before trying to re install.
If you still have problems SKTools also has a registry editor which works well but resco is a really good file manager.
With regard to the icons on the start menu once you have registry editor up and working there is a fix for that in the sticky "hints and tips thread" at the start of the forum.
Good luck
Sorted it, was downloading for smartphone, when needed to download for pocket PC, what a numpty
Snerkler,
Be really careful when using any registry editor. The ability to screw things up is huge!
Always start by taking a backup of your registry first (think you can do this with Resco Explorer) BEFORE making any changes. May as well also backup the device in case you really screw up and need to hard reset.
I'm not trying to scare you, rather give you the benefit of some bitter experience!
WB
PS If yo install the tool BSB Tweaks which you can find here on XDA, you can use a setting that allows you to install unsigned apps.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I have already tweaked a couple of settings, but not backed them up :-/ Only changed this though so nothing too major:-
35. Enable Clickable Links in Zoomed Out Opera
This reg edit allows you to tap on a link without the need for zooming in first.
HKLM/Software/Opera/Info/az_overview_threshold
Change value from 64 to 32 (I've changed it to 10 though as found 32 still didn't work)
HOw do I back up registry using resco? And how do I back up the phone?
When I installed resco I got duplicate folders in my start menu for message, emails and things, but the icons were just blue and white folders, how do I get rid of these icons?
Try going to My Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs and looking for the duplicate entries using Resco Explorer. Delete those entries and you should be OK.
Resco Explorer has a 'Recycle Bin' facility in case you want to make sure you keep the deleted items until you are sure you don't need them.

After a soft reset, the duplicate entries come back.
These are my requests that I have which would actually "complete" my perfect HD2... if any members here would like to contribute some info as to how I may go about and fulfill them, then I would have much gratitude. Thanks
-Aside from the volume control that MysticGenious posted along with his taskbar, is there any other cab or registry change that will allow me to change my volume in increments of 1 as opposed to 3 bars each time? I am familiar with the paid app, but I do not want to go that route.. If mysticGenious created something that works when you use his taskbar, then I'm sure someone else has created something.
-Take the application "FootPrints" for example... Unless I have that activated on my tab screens, I am unable to create a shortcut so that I can save it on as a quicklink. This is the same with the HTC Calender App and any other tab application. If its not active in the Tab menu then the shortcuts doesn't exist. Is there a workaround? I would like to use Foot Prints, but I only want it as a quicklink, NOT as a Tab folder. I have already tried activating the tab and creating the shortcut to the quicklinks, but as soon as i removed it from the Tab Menus, it disappeared. There has got to be a way for this to happen. Cause I mean the program is there, but for some reason it only works if its active in Tabs.
-Transformers... I have tried reinstalling the Transformers cab but that didn't work. I just want to be able to click the Transformers shortcut and be able to select either 1 or 2 and then the movie instantly pops up. I have the movies saved on my sd card now, but because i moved them out of the SD card and onto my computer at one point in time, the link that connected them is no longer there. Basically I have all the components, I just need some guidance on how to make the shortcut link and work again... I'm assuming that i have to direct the file via registry editor "Total Commander" or something, I am just confused when it comes to that stuff on my HD2
and believe it or not, thats actually the only issues I have left with the phone, I'm sure that someone has a suggestion, or knows an answer... thanks a lot guys
i haven't given up hope on the members here....
anyone know any information about any of the 3 that i have listed??
*Update*
I have solved my transformers issue...
thanks for the help community???................................................................
ehhh......
well either way.. in case someone runs into the same situation heres the original thread...

so any chances someone is gonna be able to point me in right direction for my other requests?? or perhaps even an answer??
cause this is a active hd2 forum, with many users willing to help out each other right???
one can dream.....
wrt links to footprints etc
you should be able to create your own shortcuts to the applications using File Explorer. footprints.exe exists in the Windows directory, you just need to copy it and past as short cut in the windows-start menu-programs directory. These short cuts shouldn't disappear when you disable the tab.

yea you would think so right?? but unfortunately this is the case... and i'm wondering how would we be able to remedy this.. cause yea.. footprinks.lnk does not exist... until it is activated in tabs.. and even if i decide to make a shortcut of the footprints.lnk when it shows up.. the shortcuts becomes inactive one you deactivate the tab...
its WEIRD... i think what it is.. is that HTC put a lock on that application, since its one of their own.. so that it can only work if its activated under sense UI... which sucks..
but yea.. so i've already tried all the "doable" attempts... i'm basically asking someone who is more skilled to tell me whats going on... cause the developers can do amazing things.. this would be a walk in the park...
Hi
I was playing around with some of the exe files in the /windows folder and came across QcameraApp.exe, which allows you to change the settings of the camera like framerate, white balance etc. I didn't make any changes, just looked through the options.
But ever since then, my phone freezes everytime I open the lgcamera app.
I found a related thread in this same forum titled "Usb switch and other Apps not in start menu" , which warns you about the same problem. Howewer it doesn't say exactly how to fix it, other than replacing all the files in the windows folder.
I don't have the windows folder backed up...so if one of you guys can post all the files in the windows folder related to lgcamera and qCameraApp, I might be able to fix the problem.
Also if somebody could post all the registry entries at HKCU/software/lge/lgcamera, I would really appreciate it.
I am really hoping somebody can help me out, otherwise my only option is hard reset.
Thank YOU
phone: lg expo
rom: factory installed original rom
all you need are old registry settings
After doing some more research, I have found out that just restoring the registry settings should fix the problem...
If one of you guys could export the registry from hkcu/software/lge/lgcamera...it would help me out a lot.
there are only like 20 entries, can one of you just post the values for these 20 odd fields...
Thank You
Camera registry settings
Not sure about the first entry, you may not want to mess with that as it may be date and time algorithm... but I'll put them all here for you. Let me know how it works for you. Thank MyMobiler for the screenshots, it works flawlessly with the Expo.
