Important!I'm searching Polaris with working motherboard.
The apparent condition of the phone can be anything - a broken body, screen, keyboard ...
I am only interested in the motherboard.
If You have something like this, please PM me.
Hi guys!
This is my first ROM so be patient with me.
First of all big thanx to Kostas244 and pcarvalho for help, also to gullum for his kitchen.

I will vote in a pool in this (or other) thread if you will create it. I tried download from your link three times with no success and now I see the message about download limit and country. Thanks for mirrors...
Edit: I tried... It is fast (comparing with pcarvalho's ROM much faster). There is not EZ input (not IGO issue, not stupid character window on photo-button). About 50Mb memory is realy nice.
I'm missing a timeSync aplication, total commander, SIP_CHANGE is neccessary.
Personaly i prefer big volume (HTC black) and restart button (ie. when power button pressed or in startmenu). Both I've seen it when I played bepe's kitchen as i remember.
After I disabled some M2D tabs (launcher, settings, people, location, weather), there is 52MB free memory !

Yes the M2DC works, not fully, but works.
One thing
Do not change any thing in Launcher tab, and use only themes designed for M2Dv2
I have got this up and running and it is nice and quick. My only issue is that wifi is showing as being connected but it the device insists on connecting to a gprs connection when using internet. Any ideas? I am using the recommended ROM, have done a hard reset, etc.
Thanks
Edit: now fixed, my mistake, had chosen wifi to connect to work, not internet. Cool ROM, thanks.
I've tested almost every wm6.5 roms for polaris and this is the best among all.
Smooth and responsive, 4x mb rams free with m2d compared to 1x or single digit of other roms.
1 thing though, the comm manager shows wifi as unchangable, means I cant turn it on or off but I can do that in the connections page.
And some areas the screen seems to be less responsive to touches, probably a setting somewhere as it only happens there.
Keep on the good work!
okay i've been convinced. flashing today

The wifi in commanager works fine just resync You Polaris with PC and when it fully done unplug the cable.
if thats not help - softreset, kill replog.exe in Advanced Task Manager and repeat sync
NOTE: WiFi didnt work when Polaris connected to PC
Try to align screen with minimum pressure, also screen protector add some hardness to sensitivity
Just wanted to say I've not used many ROMS in the past, but so far this is my favourite one, my main requirements were responsiveness which this one seems to be meeting! Many thanks for your efforts
Im try all the roms here, but this is my favorite now!!
Fast, fully works with my vodafone card, great keyboard.
Nice work! THNX.

Hi Guys,
Been using this great site for a while now but im not a great poster! lol Ive bought a Magician and it will be arriving tomorrow and just wondered if there is anything that i should be looking out for?
For example, what mods do you recommend? I.E Bluetooth Fix (may not exsist but just gave example) I cant wait to get it as ive used a few before and been very impressed!
Also does anyone have a link for TomTom 5 Cracked? would be much appriciated!
Hi, welcome to XDA DEV and congratulations with your purchase! If you search this forum, you will find many fixes and mods that have been applied to speed up the magician (through registry edits), gain extra memory (BigStorage is a good one!), improve the BT stack, remove the Simlock etc etc. Just look in the Magician forums and you will find many tweaking hapiness there. Be sure to back-up first before applying any mod, since they might cause a hard reset and data loss. Please DON'T ask for illegal software here, there is enough of that to be found on the internet, but not in this community. We like to tweak and mod things, but intend to do nothing illegal here. If any software or hack here is illegal in your country, don't use it.
Have fun with your new Magician!
Thanks for the welcome Koksie! Ive been having a browse though and thought that maybe it would be good to get a Top 10 things to do to your magician?
Just thought it would be handy for people like me that are new to the magician.
Can someone explain what bigstore is please? Sounds great.
BTW it hasnt arrived yet its scheduled before 1pm though!
Do a search for BigStorage, it involves flashing your Rom with a custom made one you made yourself. You can use the ROM that came with it ( if it is a new one, you will get the latest ROM I presume) or with a newer one ( if yours is a second hand device and has an older version. 1.13 is the newest one at the moment. Check in your start-settings-device information) Since a flash removes all your data, the best thing is to do it before you put any programs and information on it. basically it deletes the Extended ROM ( where your provider puts all its settings) and merges it with the internal storage, adding 20 MB extra of ROm storage, in other words, another 20 MB extra of memory that will not be deleted in case of empty battery. Another advantage of 20 MB of extra ROM is that you save another 20 MB of RAM (by ebanling you installing aps to ROm instead of RAM), so your Magician will be much faster and less battery consuming. Search for BigStorage and the method (including backing -up the Extended ROM for later use) will be explained in detail in several threads.
Same goes for removing the Simlock or extending the BT profiles. Just search for the right terms and the methods will pop-up.
Other worthwile apps are DKToday, BT SwitchIt, tel-on-off, AEBPlus and MortButtons. Check these out, they are very usefull apps. Many registry tweaks are also posted, they help to speed up your magician, change behaviour of applications and settings etc. You are right that a top 10 would be helpful, but just searching the forum will help a lot. for regedits serach for "registry edit magiacian"and I am sure helpful threads will appear.

Search for Wisbar Advance. It's the app that applies the skins.
You can find many skins on www.yorch.net, including instructions on how to install them. There are many other skin sources and progs on the market, some for free. Search and the shall find my man, google is thy friend!

I was in the same position as you are, as I recently switched from an XDAI (Wallaby) to the Magician.
Here are some things to consider and do.
1. You will definately fall in love with the device if you are a bit like me or the rest of the people here. You will want to use a long time, so before you go and use the device regularly, GET A SCREEN PROTECTOR. Even if it is just a cheap one to start with, protect the screen.
2. The regular Bluetooth stack is pretty unimpressive. It works OK, but does not offer a lot of options. If you are going to use BT get the CAB install that has just recenty popped up and is currently being discussed here. You can download in that thread, then you have a ton more options regarding BT.
3. The camera on my O2 branded device is crap (blue speckles in low light conditions). There is a fix out there to solve the problem a little bit. The ultimate solution is to install a updated camera software from T-Mobile devices which is more recent. I am still looking for a way to do this, have not dived into the topic completely.
4. If you are using your PPC device a lot, especially if you are using a large SD-Card for file storage one day or the other you will face the need of hooking up yur device to some friends computer to exchange some files. This is not easily done unless the other computer has ActiveSync running. To do this easily you can use Softick Card Export, which is a little tool that enables the Magician to act as a Mass Storage Device. When the program is enabled you just use your friendly USB cable to hook up to the other computer and your Magician is instantly connected without drivers (if it is a W2K+ or XP machine or something like this - Win98 will not work instantly).
5. Always carry a small USB cable with you. I love the possibility of charging my device whereever I find a USB port.
6. Software I will not leave home without:
- Wisbar Advance2 / Wisbar Advance Desktop plugin
- Total Commander
- Registry Editor of choice
- Memmaid
- Pockettools
- Sprite Backup
- Destinator PN (if you are going to use it as a GPS)
- Pocketmusic for mp3 playback
- Phonealarm plugin
- Some calendar plugin giving a good oversight of tasks and appointments
- eWallet (for keeping confidential info such as PINs etc. encrypted)
- Mobipocket Reader with a recent offline version of Wikipedia
- Pocketmechanic
- phonExt (better Dialer)
- RESCO Audio Recorder (allows mp3 recording)
- PhonePad chooser (customize the PhonePad design)
That should get you kind of started. Oh, wait, after I did the BigStorage hack I also replaced that butt-ugly O2 splash screen (screen displayed when you power on the device or do a soft/hard reset) with a selfmade one saying "hacked" and displaying the 18c3logo.
7. Get Pocket Zen Phone - it only costs €5 and allows you to have multiple profiles, flight, office, car, etc for different situations - just click the icon on the Today screen. Get it here: http://zendrui.free.fr/

So does PhoneAlarm. I checked out PocketZenPhone, but decided I liked pA better. It's a matter of taste, I guess. Did you take a look at pA anyways?
This discussion is going on on another thread as well.
I use PA, it's got a lot of features that I like.
To be fair, I've not used PZP much because I didn't think that it did more then PA that was relevant to me.
I've set up PA with profiles on my Today screen, which seems to be what PZP is good for:

No, but PZP does exactly what I want.
I've looked around quite a lot for info on these files but i've had little success with it.
When my Wizard boots up, it has about 16MB of RAM left over. In less than 1 hour without any usage, it goes from 16MB to about 8MB and the phone starts crawling.
Using DotFreds Task Manager, I figured out that the files mentioned in the title grow from sizes of around 500 - 1000 KB at startup to about 4MB each. I use Oxios Hibernate as much as most people use refresh on their computers and inspite of that I can't do much to save RAM.
I've included screenshots with info from DotFreds Task Manager.

Both of them have the exact same apps running with the exception of pMSN server which isnt running in the one with 16MB free. Both have Outlook and ActiveSync open in the background.
As you can see with very minimalistic usage, the memory consumtion has gone through the roof despite the fact that I continuously use Oxios Hibernate to free up memory.
One of the thing I don't really like about M$ is that they tend to have everything under their 'module' and there isn't any way of telling what is causing that particular 'module' to behave as such. For example, in WinXp, there are tons of this svchost.exe running at the background and they are allowed to access the net. And certainly, one day viruses will hijack these 'module' and it will be relatively impossible to detect.
Anyway, the filesys.exe behaviour is very interesting. Based on its name, I would presume that it does file system stuff. So, I wonder what could have made it blown up to such a massive size. What do you DO after you had the unit softreset? If you didn't do anything, I would suspect that the massive other applications might be the culprit, eg. anythings that read/write stuff? It would be helpful if you can list out the Today plugins that you have and, you seems to be usign WA2.
Mr. iPhone... thanks for that
Unlike most members here I hardly have memory resident programs installed.
Today Screen Plugins (This is all that I have set for my TODAY SCREEN)
1) BatteryStatus
2) Default Pocket Outlook Messaging Item
3) Today Agenda
Programs that run in the background
1) WA2
2) SPB Pocket Plus
(I have disabled all features of SPB Pocket Plus including the Today Screen Plugin, with the exception of the Buttons Feature and the Pocket IE Enhancements. I mainly keep this installed because I like the variety of button shortcuts it provides)
3) AE Button Plus
4) PaulyA.com Vista Black by JPL4 (Phone Dialer Skin)
5) Oxios Memory
6) MS VC 1.6
7) SOTI Pocket Controller
8) Saman SMS Delivery Reciept Fix
9) Shubaroo.com ContactFix (Not sure if this is a memory resident program)
Misc Programs that are not active until I start them
1) Resco Explorer
2) Total Commander
3) Opera
4) IM Plus 4.23
5) Macromedia Flash Player ActiveX (not sure as to whether this loads everytime a browser open or if it loads at boot)
6) Skype 2.1
7) z2 R2PC
8) SPB Insight
9) smashcasi RemoteAmp
10) TCPMP Core Player
11) Modaco NO DATA
12) Age of Empires
13) WM5torage
14) Bad sector's ID Transfer v1.00
You can't really do much about those files.
gwes.exe = graphics/windows (the graphic component of WinMob)
services.exe = drivers and stuff.
Filesys.exe = file system stuff (obviously!)
These are fundamental files to the OS. You can't normally disable them or kill them without damaging the OS behaviour. However, what they do is normally dictated by apps you run, drivers you start and other normal phone behaviour. I don't normally watch those files, as their activities are best left alone - consider everything else you're running on your phone though.
Wisbar and Voice Command are hefty apps. Try using a safe mode app and disabling all startup apps, and do a trial and error check of which apps use the most resources.
If you want to get your hands dirty, backup your registry and go through your driver registry and disable unnecessary drivers. I don't recommend that, but you know,
.
V
Thanks for that VJ.
It looks like WA2 and Voice command are using less than 300KB and 1000KB repectively. Tha't quite alright for me. The fact that the services.exe file takes up such a massive chunk of memory is unsettling. Isnt there anyway to have it unload modules and components that are not in use?
Not really. You could, but it's better to stop them from loading to begin with.
If you've got a task manager that will show you module usage (or access to remote tools in Visual Studio/EVC) then find out which modules are a bit elephantine and try to hack through the registry and disable them from loading. It's a very dangerous solution, so backup first.
V
I'm not at guru-level like some, but I have had similar problems in the past, and suggest checking some basics before elephant hunting!!
My experience is that filesys and gwes are the two system modules that absorb the effects of bad memory leaks... IOW, they themselves are not the problem, just the recipients of something else screwing up, which will usually be evidenced in dramatically increased size.
So, my first instinct would be that SOMETHING you have installed is playing badly.
My initial reaction/question is: (this is obvious, but... ) did you change anything recently? New ROM, new app versions, new app settings (e.g., change of OMAP Clock in BatteryStatus), registry tweaks, etc. ?
I use a very similar set of apps. Some thoughts:
* The first thing that jumps at me is Today Agenda, as I know that the recent versions have some instabilities with recent cooked ROMs.
* The second would be to check the interactions between SPB Pocket Plus and WA2 (as task manager) and AE Button Plus (for button assignment), as Pocket Plus doesn;t always play nicely with others, and also has some cooked ROM issues.
* The third would be SPB Insight, which, if running in the background, might be messing things up.
Good luck!
Thanks for that rpodos.
I dunno if it could be any of the things you've mentioned... then again, you never know.
I'm still using the stock rom from iMate
1) SPB Pocket Plus is completely disabled except for the PIE enhancements and the Buttons feature. Hence no conflict between task managers of WA2 and Pocketplus
2) Very rarely use SPB Insight... infact both the screenshots above were taken without an SPB Insight usage.
3) AE Button Plus and SPB Buttons.... hmm... I use the SPB Button Shortcuts in AE Button Plus.
4) Today Agenda... I'm using the latest version, but I only installed it like 2 days ago, and i've been having this same memory problem much before that.
After trying a lot of things that didnt really pan out, I was well on my way to a hard reset when I decided to find a few softwares to replace the SPB functionalities.
1) I got PIE Plus to replace SPB PIE Enhancements
2) Got MonoCube's SafeMode 2
3) PHM's PHM Keys for some of the direct system commands that could be assigned to Buttons to replace the SPB Pocket Plus Button Enhancements.
After I got all this, and was about to Hard Reset, I was just curious to see if the memory situation would imporve marginally by un-installing a few softwares especially Pocket Plus. I went into safe mode and removed the following
1) SPB Pocket Plus
2) PaulyA.com Vista Black by JPL4 (Phone Dialer Skin)
3) SPB Insight
4) Total Commander and
5) z2 R2PC
I restarted and what do you know... no more memory leak. My services.exe file hasn't gone beyond 138 KB.
Filesys.exe and GWES.exe are still at 1468kb and 1202kb, but I guess GWES is understandable since I am using WA2.
Other than that everything else is fine. I installed PIE Plus and it's awesome. I can't believe how incredibly fast it is and how many customizing options it has. I can't believe I used PIE without it all these days. It can do almost everything except give u access to sites like orkut. I guess you can have Opera around for that, but other than some occasional sites like that which could pose a problem, this one really takes the cake. Really fast... without OCing!!!
Definitely recommend that everybody should try it out atleast once.
Just search for "PIEPlus" on www.pocketgear.com
The latest version is 2.2
Anyways, just thought I'd let all of you know that everything is AOK.
In my opinion the memory leak was prolly between SPB Pocket Plus and the Vista Dialer Skin... that thing (Vista Dialer) really drained everything from the day I installed it. Just didn't realise how much till I saw my RAM get depleted by the minute till the wizard was down on its knees at 3MB free ram!!!!! Even opening my Windows folder used to take a millennium till I got rid of the Vista Dialer. Now it opens up in about 5 seconds as opposed to almost 8-12 seconds before.
Oh and lastly... I got between 17.5 MB to 19MB free RAM now with the same setup as before minus the few things I removed as mentioned above.
I think you can keep Total Commander, it is a crime not to have it
anyway, I'm having (running ones, i guess)
phoneAlarm
rlToday
dashBoard
Pocket Breeze
PaulyA.com skin
Has the same amount of free memory as you. I wonder what in my stuff that takes as much memory as the WA2 (pocket breeze? dashboard?). And i would have thought, AE Button Plus and MS VC ought to take more memory. Need to do some investigation this weekend.
Hey buddy, hows it goin?
LOL... yeah... Since I thought I was heading to a hard reset, I just pulled out a few things I wasn't using of late and that included Total Commander, not that it really contributed to the memory hole.
I had Pocket Plus installed from the day I last Hard Reseted and that was on the 15th of Dec 2006. Everything was actually fine. Somewhere mid January, I installed WA2 and even then things were quite alright. I had disabled all of Pocket Plus's features that interfered with WA2 such as Close Button. Somewhere around the same time, I installed the Vista Dialer and soon after that things started going down hill. I guess the memory hole started up because of some sort of incompatability somewhere between these 3 apps. Now that i've gotten rid of Pocket Plus and the Vista Dialer, it all seems fine. I think SPB Insight might have something to do with it as well since it has a service which loads during startup.
Sorry about the posts which are one after the other. Since what I'm mentioning here is a little different from the above, I thought it would be better to put it in a new post.
Just tried uninstalling some of the Today Items DLL's. Though I don't have anything on my Today Screen except for
1) Battery Status
2) Messaging
3) Today Agenda
it seems that the other items which you have the option of selecting for the Today Screen also load their DLL's whether you have enabled them or not.
I had Skype and a whole bunch of other stuff like Pocket MSN etc. I backed up the original settings in the registry and used the Today Plugin Un-Installer to unload the DLL's and remove the entries.
Stuff I've gotten rid off
1) Skype
2) Device Lock (don't really use it)
3) Wireless
4) Tasks
5) Calendar
6) Pocket MSN
After doing this I've gotten about another 500kb fre I think. So yeah.... I'm almost at 20MB free RAM now.
in order to release memory you can use htcAddicts (a quick search would be enough to find it)
it has a function to schedule "clean RAM" daily, every 3 or 6 hours, which might help

Project Orphaned and/or looking for main developer!
First of all I'd like to say thank you to the community of people who helped bring Sunscape this far. The people from xda developers, as well as those who joined in the meanwhile make this forum an excellent place to start, maintain, develop and most importantly test any type of software.
Sadly, I lack the resources, for example time, to continue my development of Sunscape. During the time I've been writing and testing this program I have tried to provide an alternative to what we already have on the market. I'm currently looking to orphan the project and/or find a main developer to co-author the program. Perhaps somebody with more talent, will and desire to continue Sunscape.
Thus, if there's anybody willing to either take up the whole project and move on with it, or be the main developer of this project with my assistance, I would very much be interrested. Please let me know, I'll keep checking my messages to see if somebody is interested. Thank you!

[About]
Sunscape is an opensource alternative to the iPhone lock. Sunscape tries to allow the user to fully configure the screen locker down to the very last details as well as maintaining a small memory footprint and trying to be as compatible as possible with very many different devices.
[Requirements]
This app has been tested on an Axim x51v and by a couple of people reporting it to be stable enough. It's ongoing development so I appreciate any kind of complaint, suggestion, bug, code modification or anything else you'd like to do. These are the minimum requirements:
Windows Mobile 5 onward (sorry wm2003 users out there)
Compact Framework 2.0
[Features]
R2U (rub to unlock) and S2U (slide to unlock)
vga/qvga anything, depends what you configure it to be!
fully configurable interface (including graphics etc...) based on a documented XML file with configuration tool.
on screen display for time, date, appointments, alarms.
on screen display of battery, messages, notes, emails, signal, weather, etc...
uses pressure-points instead of "slide to unlock", future releases will include other nifty ways to unlock based on touch.
has a small memory footprint and triggers based on time and load opposed to OEM "backlight" triggers.
can hotswap portrait vs landscape, ie, it will automatically switch to landscape or portrait mode on supported devices.
has separate configuration options for both modes portrait and landscape.
supports fully configurable full screen callerID and answer or reject by reaching a pressure point.

Stable releases are those who were thoroughly tested by several people. They don't contain the latest features, modifications or bugfixes but they are bound to work and be compatible with the themes you've seen above. Snapshot releases are development releases with new features and enhancements and are thus prone to not work correctly. In either case, if you've found a bug, please report it and I'll fix it asap!
[Stable]

[Snapshots] Top most is the most recent version! Please note that themes may not work unless the developers have updated to the new Sunscape.xml! If you post bug reports please post them for the top most version in the list below. The others below the top most are there just for history purpose. Please download the top most as it contains the recent changes and bugfixes.

You can always grab the latest SVN version from HERE. Please note that this will change in time and is considered the most unstable version of Sunscape. If you just want to browse the repository, you can do so HERE.
[TODO]
I included this section to easily track feature requests and stuff that must be done.
- Gestures (should be done, will take a bit of modifications to the core, no planned date yet).
- Show in front of password/locker screen.

[Install]
If you downloaded the CAB file, just copy to your device and install as normal. In case you've downloaded the stable version, you'll find the CAB file in SunscapeCAB/Release and you can copy it to your device and install.
You will have three utilities installed: Sunscape - this is the main program and, when launched, will stay resident until the CPU Threshold is below the configured value; Sunscape Remote - this utility will help you control Sunscape while it is running; Sunscape Unlock - this will turn off Sunscape completely; Sunscape Config - this is the main configuration tool including some documentation. However, if you wish to theme for Sunscape, please refer to the Sunscape.xml file since it's a bit more detailed.
[Uninstall]
Please first run Sunscape Unlock.exe and then uninstall. Also, if you've created a shortcut with Sunscape Config, please remove it from either Sunscape Config or from the \Windows\Startup folder.

I'd like to thank A_C for being an inspiration, the guys at ppcwarez who were very helpful in accommodating my first release as well as testing it. Also many thanks to this thread and xda-developers for their useful comments and feedback that made this application come alive. I'd also like to thank master athlon, sempixel and ruebyi for their nice themes, -Arthuro- for the nice visible icons. Thank you!
thanks dude. will give it a try tomorrow.
thanks you.. I Go in to test.. lol

master athlon:
Tough one! Usually happens if some component is not found... Like pilgrim011, please check you have Compact Framework 2.0 or higher installed... There shouldn't be a pretty solid reason it doesn't run, it runs fine on a ETEN Glofish X800.

The one that comes with Windows Mobile 6 Professional(latest official HTC ROM), so - 2.0.
Hmm, tried a hard reset on a TyTN II - works...
Installed to storage card or device? Install to storage card doesn't work.
EDIT: It would be helpful if you can say what that error actually is...
It's working now - I reinstalled it to main storage, previous it was on storage card. Tomorrow I'll continue with testing.

Great! Ok, about the 12hr clock - doesn't it respect the regional settings? ie: if you've set your pda to 12hr clock doesn't it respect that? If not - I'll add a 12hr option in the configuration file. Easily done!
Lock on wakeup - Ok here's the thing. The previous version went exactly that way but I moved away from that for two reasons:
1.) The code was overly proprietary - believe it or not but it's like... very hard to tell when a power event is triggered. Ok not hard, but it MAY happen that different device types send different codes. I implemented it using the standard WM_BACKLIGHT_OFF on an Axim51v and to my surprise it wasn't working on an Eten (figures it used another code).
2.) The previous version was a bit slow - it happened that I wanted to turn on my phone to access some files quickly and instead of turning on quickly and accessing the files I was sitting there watching the screen lock... Annoying indeed!
In both cases, I'll see if there's some way around it (ie: to not use power events) and lock the screen on startup through some option in the configuration file.
Thanks again!
Not working
I hope i did really everything right but i get a unhandeld exception occured.
Hermes 300 offical WM6 German Version.
Installed on main memory
then i installed NET3.5 with reboot.
no way -> unhandeld exception
Time: no for some reason it doesnt respect the regional settings, i have mine set to US Central time, and it shows up with 24 hour clock regardless.
Lock: no big deal, i know what you mean about staring at the screen, i had the same prob with S2U2, thats why i dont use it anymore, but thanks for the heads up.
does it have a full screen caller ID like S2U2 cause thats the main reason i use it S2U2

Nope. Actually it should exit on an incoming call and let other "better" programs handle it. If it is a request, I can implement it and make it optional.

Features:
- Can be uninstalled
- Installs to SD/DEVICE
- Included Ad-blocking filter
- Default homepage set to Google
- Increased disk cache size to 20 MB
- Made the Zoom and Launch buttons 50% transparent
- Replaced the "htc" loading image with build 2392's image
- Fixed the "installation unsucessfull" problem on some devices by removing setup.dll and adding its functions to _setup.xml
Notes:
- Hardware keyboard is reportedly working on Touch Pro/HD but is buggy on Xperia and a few others.
- If you're upgrading from build 2XXX or 19XX,I suggest using this cab over the upgrade version (which just replaces the two Opera exes) as this build contains new features like Vibration and Strength Clicks, which needs the supporting registry entries to work properly. There are also a few minor changes in Opera.ini and other files. Also, a few SD version cabs posted here of earlier builds are buggy (incorrect paths of a few files/registries) so I recommend installing this version for a complete (cooking bugs free) experience.
- As always, please backup your existing Opera/device before installing.
- Tested on WM5 QVGA PPC. (200MHz, 42 MB)
A few interesting tweaks:
- To prevent Opera from continuing to run in the background even after you close it, change the value of this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Preload
Name: RealExit
- For vibration support (untested)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Defaults
Name: VibrationEnabled
\Windows\Opera9\Opera.ini tweaks:
- If you're not satisfied with the default zoom levels, tweak these values:
Code:
[Adaptive Zoom]
Maximum Zoom=
Minimum Zoom=
Minimum Overview Zoom=
- To increase the number of tabs, edit the value below:
Code:
[User Prefs]

FAQ:
1) Flash Support?
Flash isn't working. I've yet to fully try out all tricks though, but don't expect a Flash build anytime soon.
2) Uninstall old version?
Not necessary. The installer should automatically remove any older builds.
3) Difference between 15202 and 15086?
Nothing significant (aka bugfixes or N/A)
4) Improvements in build 15XXX since 2XXX?
Better Performance (Reported, not measured)
Vibration Support (Not tested)
Strength Clicks (Double taps? Pressure taps? Not sure about this one.)
Scroll Wheel Zoom
5) Help! Opera's not installing / starting
Before installing, terminate Opera9.exe using a process manager such as in SKTools
A softreset before and after installing helps
Uninstall all existing versions, delete Opera files from \Application Data\, \Windows\, \Program Files\ and run a registry cleaner
If your device has less memory, softreset, then exit all background apps and thirdparty processes (MobileShell/Winterface/etc), compact memory heaps and try launching
Some devices may report an unsucessfull install, but try launching Opera and check if the new version was installed
Troubleshooting:
Please mention the following details:
Device/OS/software specs.
Clean or upgrade install. If upgraded, which was the earlier build, etc.
Which CAB(s) you tried

thanks. im going to wait around for confirmed flash support tho.
you say youre trying to get support for flash.. does that mean it is a matter of updating the cabs again.. so shouldnt we potentially just wait til that happens?
idk why ppl are so concerned abut flash. First of all flash is flash lite and its a beta at that so its not ideal. neither is watching an embedded video in the browser. so i dont see much of a need for the big stink about having it at this point in time.
and i agree htctoucher, theres obviously a reason flash wasnt implemented any official Opera build yet on any device or their beta on their site- probably because Flash isnt ready, so i dont see why a half-baked beta flash lite build is so important to people.
Adobe is brining Flash 10 to mobiles shortly so im sure at some point Opera will officially support it
i think at this point having the best Opera build we can trumps flash by a mile. if people want a good way to do flash, skyfire is the best solution
dexter, thanks a lot for this update. Can you please upload only the Opera9.exe and OperaL.exe files for VGA? (and i'm sure QVGA will be useful for someone)
Thanks a lot.

i was about to say..... opera... since it released the beta , not the "leaked htc, sharp, samsung builds, that they will not enable plugins in the beta builds... this is common knowledge....
as for the flash lite..... it was working pretty good in older builds of opera, and was even working even better on Internet Explorer Mobile 6 from the released emulator images some released a .cab for.....
i dont see complete flash 10 support ever coming to window mobile, but i do note the announcement that they are "looking into" bringing flash 10 to mobile devices in November .. but flash i too much of a system resource hog atm..
as far as i know flash lite 3 is all there releasing any time soon
and all flash lite 3 really is , is like the early builds of flash version 9 on desktops... which only supported the FLV standard, and not newer builds that support MP4 and .mov streaming....
all in all, i dont think any decent version of flash will be available for windows mobile any time soon... it is a crippled out of date OS.... but i wont bash on Microsoft too much... one of the reasons the IPhoney doesn't have it on there is because it consumes to many system resources.... and apple doesn't just want flash lite, they want the full version of flash.... that wont happen any time soon eiter

Updated exes have been posted by cityhunter71 over here.
vibrate function doesnt seem to be working.. i dont really see much improvement over 2808..
my main gripe with recent versions is that when you are typing in a box (like in xda) when your typing goes out of the screen the screen doesnt move to show you what you are typing.. really makes it inconvenient to type.. previous verdions used to do this
also.. typing is no where near as good as in browsers like netfront.. pcm suggestion barely works in opera while it is near flawless in netfront
i was looking forward to this being implemented again in newer builds.. but even in these havent seen it.. or are other people having different experiences?
would love to know if somehow i could enable this very wishful thinking..

I hate this too, I'm online with my Diamond almost all the time and typing typing in forums is a pain because of this issue...
I installed this on my XV6850 (Verizon Touch Pro) w/ stock ROM. I used the full install (not the upgrade) because Opera was included in the original ROM. Couple of notes:
1. I installed the SD version, but it did not install on my memory card. I found the new files in the Windows folder on my device.
2. This seems to have totally hosed my Compact Qwerty touch keyboard. It only types numbers, no letters, not just within Opera, but also if I try to use it to compose messages.
3. This is not uninstallable.
4. I tried to install Build 2392 over this version, but Compact Qwerty still doesn't work.
I installed the VGA standard version over the 15086.
Again, this version on the end of installation gave me an uninstalled, but About reports version 15202
Also, it's not uninstallable.
I modified the number of max tabs in opera.ini but still I can only have 3 tabs. I found a file, opera1.ini, I rename it and now I can add more tabs...

I know exactly what you're talking about, I noticed that problem on a number of previous builds. the funny thing is it only happens at xda!
but the way I setup my opera causes the text/reply field when zoomed to only fit the screen width. therefore I don't suffer from that. sometimes when I zoom in the reply field it's too big so I zoom out and zoom back on again. I have a VGA device:
I set my max zoom = 145, min zoom = 80 and in settings=> display I set font size to large.
this works for me and it has been working for me since 3 or 4 builds ago. I find that if I don't set font size to large it doesn't work. hopes this helps.
also.. typing is no where near as good as in browsers like netfront.. pcm suggestion barely works in opera while it is near flawless in netfront

to tell you the truth, I hold opera 10 bars above netfront. to me opera is way more functional, I find it very frustrating to scroll and pan in netfront. I can tweak the hell out of opera, I remember when it just came out and didn't support wordwrap I was able to implement it myself through the CSS files. I don't use flash in my opera because it's a resource hog, videos auto play and causes the page to move really slow, it causes opera to act sporadic and crashes the browser.
if you're talking about the hardware keyboard problem try using a software keyboard, I use TouchPal. I haven't used my HK keys in almost a year now. I find that I type almost 2 times faster than I would on a hardware keyboard.
just my 10cents, looking back for my 8cents change.

this happens because you had a previous build that cannot be uninstalled, my guess is the 2545 build (yeah it got me too, I had to hard reset to get rid of it). and yes even though it says it was unsuccessful it still installed the major pieces, so technically you're running the new build so you shouldn't worry too much about that.

I had stock Opera on my Touch HD and also got the "installation unsuccessful" thingie.
No big deal except the fact that it didn't appear in the Remove programs list and can't be uninstalled.
So I would advise to copy \Windows\Opera9.exe, \Windows\OperaL.exe, \Windows\Opera9 folder and HKLM\Software\Opera somewhere to be able to roll back just in case.
Otherwise, it's an excellent build, blazing fast, properly rotates dialogs unlike 2808 and works just fine for me so far - thanks for posting this!

On Touch HD, when you tap a link or one of the corner fullscreen mode buttons (i.e. zoom and exit full screen), there's a short vibration to confirm. It still works in this build.
However, the stock HD version of Opera also used to vibrate on double tapping the screen to zoom in and out. In this build it doesn't. Not a big loss, just to point out what's going on.

My guess is that it's a threshold to either avoid accidental taps or to trigger mouseover event needed to open some dropdown menus. Something is definitely needed for the latter on some sites. Now you can imitate mouseover by tapping a link in the overview mode (something considered by many as a bug). Doesn't seem to work here.
Zooming with scroll wheel is not working on my polaris. Same as in all previus releases! Or do i have to change some reg-keys?

opera is really starting to P me off..
why are newer builds so much more jumpy? why does the screen not move with you when you type?
the first issue makes it a b**** to surf the internet cuz the screen wont move where you want it to move until the page has completely loaded which takes kind of a while after enough of it has loaded for you to want to pan!
come on opera! starting to wonder what they are focusing on...
really hope they bring back features that made this browser so easy to use from earlier builds..

the first issue makes it a b**** to surf the internet cuz the screen wont move where you want it to move until the page has completely loaded which takes kind of a while after enough of it has loaded for you to want to pan!
come on opera! starting to wonder what they are focusing on...
really hope they bring back features that made this browser so easy to use from earlier builds..

I hear you on that. but usually I I can scroll and pan once the page is over 50% loaded.
keep in mind that this is not an easy job they're doing, and it's still in beta. when they implement new things in the CSS engine of course it's gonna break something, so they have to see what is broken then go over it and try to fix it. the 2808 build was loaded with CSS issues but this build seems to scour most of them away.
the reason why the page is jumping all over the place when you try to move it before the page is loaded is because opera is still interpreting the page.
I have no gripes with that, just let the page load over 50% or so before you try to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page . also try enabling smooth scrolling.
I have tried it. It is much fast than 2392.

Hmm. Though it will be better to categorise all supported games and apps for gene in one single section. The idea is to place all the apps recommended by Gene Users in one thread which they have used and found to be working. The objective is to index all apps and games running smoothly on gene and hopefully with sufficient participation the program list will be smooth and rewarding for particularly Newbies to the Forum.
If two more people people think unnecessary please comment. i will ask MODs to delete this thread. Let's keep our gene forum clean.
I think its nice idea to share our fav apps with others. But I guess there was a thread similar to this earlier too.
Still a GOOD THOUGHT I belive.

Look Pavan, It really drove me nuts to see that comment. For a second I was thinking, if it hurt me this much, how much the Creator of this thread was hurt. This guy has taken a serious effort to do the job and did it well.
It always drive me mad when nobody comes forward to do the task, and when one tries to do the job in his capacity, the other fellows try to criticize that by saying, "Useless", "it would have be better this way", "I could have done better", " you screwed up pal.." ... ect...
For those ppl, I have only one thing to say... F**k off you D**k Heads...
I still believe I am correct pavan...
