Flash details from Flashcamp

I was at Flashcamp yesterday at Adobe. Here's what I learned:
Flash Player will run on any handset with FroYo. Both should be available in May. FP is hardware-optimized when possible, hence the dependancy on FroYo.
Bowler Hat's GridShock was being demoed on a Droid as a native APK (just like the iPhone Packager). I forgot to check the Android version, but it felt slightly laggy.
I think I heard AIR (the Android Packager) should ship around September.
Awesome Android devices will ship this year, including tablets.

What version number will FroYo get? Are you serious, May? I seriously doubt that FroYo will be released in May...

I heard Fro-Yo is Android 2.3. They publicly stated that Flash Player 10.1 will run on any phone with Fro-Yo, and that there will be a public build available in May. They did give the caveat concerning the availability of Fro-Yo on devices, so I don't know what the Android timetable is.
I'm mainly posting this info here so the ROM chefs can start thinking about an AOSP build of Fro-Yo, so we'll be able to run Flash content on a mobile device in May.

i can't remember when AOSP 2.1 was released but its at least 6 months now. i also doubt it will be May, but would be pleasantly surprised if it was.

As I wrote somewhere, there are already some simple checks for Froyo in Google Maps This doesn't mean we will have it soon, but we can at least hope for that

Hey guys,
Just dropping in to let you know that the FRF72 build that is floating around is not the official update. The Android team is feverishly working to get a final version out the door, but like passion-ate has mentioned this will only happen once a release candidate meets our quality criteria.
Since today is the Summer Solstice, we know things will be heating up a bit so hopefully Froyo will be on its way shortly. Thanks for your continued patience!

So… that tells us… not very much but we now know 2 things:
* FRF72, which was the latest official leaked Froyo build, was not the final version (we kind of already suspected that)
* and Froyo is still not ready

Then again if the google guys think that FRF72 still doesn't meet their standards... could be a good thing.
I'm expecting the OTA'd Froyo to have the option to take over Apple's servers and Ddos them to pieces.

Pretty sure its actually five years in the making because I've been watching for 3 years and I'm sure they started in 04-05 right after half life source came out. nothing compared to duke nukem forever

funny how long its taking google when they seemed so confident at I/O that it would be out shortly. what did they discover i wonder that suddenly needed so much attention?
anyway it doesnt bother me. but i know the complainers in the main google forum arent as forgiving. i have to wonder, what do those people think, that google is holding back 2.2 on purpose? what would be the hidden motive!

I agree, its tough to be mad since we already have it anyway. But I'm with you I'm intrigued by the delay, not put off by it. Hopefully google will not be too embarrassed to announce what caused the delay.

So FRF72 is not the final build. What will be in the new build. Is there a list available what items is not met yet in the FRF72 build?

All this time I always have a feeling that froyo is being delayed due to flash! My thought is that they are waiting for the final flash build to optimize froyo for it.

Legend and froyo

Hallo! i have heard allot of rumours that legend won't be getting froyo

Also not sure if anyone thought of this, but bell (and indirectly virgin mobile canada) are not stupid companies. They are introducing a new android phone and thus throwing massive amounts of ad $ and marketing into it, from both bell/virgin AND htc itself. Remember this is virgins FIRST android set and bells 4th or 5th, they would most likely have talked to htc to make sure the device is upgradeable to the newest android. They just started selling it, they aren't going to allow it to be out dated within the month its released! If the did it would be a waste on advertising and a waste of introducing a new phone.
That's just my 2 cents, but it seems very logical to me, how about you?

Adobe didn't state HTC Legend on their supported devices list...could this mean no 2.2 for Legend? or Is HTC dumbing down 2.2 for Legend as they did with 2.1?
If 2.2 is dumbed down for Legend, it better have WiFi hotspot as a stock 2.2 rom would have, or I am going to be one pissed off long legged puerto rican!

Android 3.0 is "Honeycomb" Made For Tablets

Frankly, this won't much matter to the majority of consumers if indeed it proves true: Most folks want a phone that works, and couldn't care less about what form of sweetness its software is named after. You? You may well care, for any number of reasons ranging from to a stupid bet you made in a nerdy bar to anger that your 2.1 device might not be eligible for some Honeycomb. Me? I care because just a week ago I went on national TV yapping about how 3.0 would be called "Gingerbread." Ah, well, I'm still not wrong. I'm just saying that someone who knows just told me that I'll probably be proven wrong in the end. But hey, it's the risk I take for living such a dangerous life!

Nice find.
Although other sources theorize that the version for it is different. One theory is that the tablet update (Gingerbread) will be numbered 3.0 and that the next phone update would be an incremented version of that. This early in the game it's impossible to draw any real conclusions but in that case Gingerbread (possibly a tablet update) would be a major update going to 3.0 and Honeycomb (the phone update?) would build off that and become 3.1 or even 3.2.

That does NOT apply to the US Vibrant, it is for the UK market. Yes, it means that we will eventually get it, probably by the end of the year.

Back to topic. Was it EVER said anywhere that the US Galaxy S series would get froyo? I know this was assumed because Samsung said the Galaxy S would get it, but I wouldn't doubt them changing their tune now.

I'm not sure what happened with the exclusivity of the Android community but I swear people have become more and more abrasive and impatient within the last year.
I remember how peaceful and progressive the G1 forums were since the days of 1.1 - 2.0.

Well that's just practical, it gets really cold outside sometimes.

Isn't it a news of some interest for us Vibrant owners that UK is getting Froyo for Galaxy S? Sure it is....that is because Vibrant is a Samsung Galaxy S series phone and an official roll out in UK means Samsung has Froyo working well for Galaxy S phones at this time and it means US is going to get Froyo soon.
OP didnt say Vibrant is getting Froyo on so and so date, like a bunch of BS threads in the past.
