How to check if brand new? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi,
How to check if the HTC I am going to buy is brand new and original one?
Is there any software which will reveal the hardware information and usage information? Or any other methods ?

What do you mean orig?
If you think its a chinese clone your common-sense will kick in and tell you if its fake.Clones dont have the HTC makring and the batt will not be in english and will be fake brand.

Well, I went to market yesterday and I was pretty confused with the original and fake one. But yes I can at distinguish between original and fake one. The touch screen of the fake one is so slow, the screen is not clear blah blah.
My problem is-
1. If the circuit (and hardware) inside is a repaired one instead of a brand new.
2. How to check if the battery is a real or fake one. (I have seen the fake battery looks pretty much same as the real one). This is REALLY IMPORTANT.
3. How to check if the phone is 32A or 32B. I want to buy 288MB version. How will I check the RAM?
4. If it's a brand new one or a used one. How to check if the phone is used or not.
5. They will give me HTC TIM 288 MB RAM version. Is there any restriction or anything that I need to be aware of this version? Is this the same as the HTC version? What's the difference other than logo ?
Also if you can show me how to be sure if I am buying the HTC magic phone I am paying for.
Thanks in advance.

1.Would prob look the same
2.Fake batt wont work in real
3.Press Cam+Power it will show 32A or 32B
4.look at condition or wear and tear, see if its already activated
5.There are diff logos on the magic:
-Tmobile
-orange
-Vodaphone
-Rogers
-HTC
Well those are the ones i know of might be more in other countries,im in US so we only have 32B.

Thanks Ace42,
Here in China fake battery works Only difference is fake battery doesn't last long and goes down pretty quickly.
Are you aware of any software which can reveal the inside of the Hardware (including usage, time activated, hardware info)
Please tell me if there is any hardware key to check the IMEI number and software version (like in Nokia it is *#06# and *#0000#)

When you press cam+power it brings you to bootloader screen
only appears on real phone
press Power+home for recovery mode
Should show a ! mark in a triangle

I bought my TIM Magic in China (shanghai) and I think its real
because the developer is hiapk, don't know what is it..? its real or fake..?
maybe someones can explain it about developer/kernel version (HIAPK) in Magic..?
but all information like SPL, Radio are showing when I fastbooted my phone..
from this forum I saw there is a difference between 32A and 32B, for example when you fastboot the phone (power off press <vol down + power>) there will be screen showing "SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H",
32A = your ram 288
32B = your ram 192

Difference between Android phones

Dear Community.
I've one question...
HTC has a lot of Android phones in their product line...
Magic, Hero, Tatoo
But what is the big difference between them?
I only know that Hero and Tatoo have little bit more Ram and an other UI.
But is it worth to buy a Tatoo in stead of an Magic?
thanks

I'm not an expert of testing different phones. But here's my short review anyway. There are no huge differences, though the Hero doesn't upgrade to OS 1.6 yet.
I'll start with the Magic.
The Magic has two version, the 32B and 32A.
To summarize that, the 32A is a little "faster" can load more apps and used OS 1.5 but now upgraded to 1.6. Big disadvantages are having no 3.5 mm jack for audio, bad camera and multimedia support.
The Hero has the nice Sense UI (Rosie) but might have little lag on homescreen once you put more applications on it etc.. One of the neat things is the fingerprint-resistant coating so you don't have to clean it over and over like the Magic.
The Tattoo runs 1.6 and is much like Hero because of the Sense UI and it is much faster with booting. The design fits better in one hand because it's more round shaped. Disadvantage is the smaller screen.
You can modify any of these phones to your taste. But I think HTC has done a great job with Tattoo. The Dream & Magic are also good phones, but if you plan not to mod the phone I'd say Tattoo.
Just my opinion with some facts. The choice is up to you.
All Android phones are cool.
i could live with the small screen as a pocket suitable phone but the screen of the tattoo is only a resistive screen instead of a capacitive screen. Which is a big disadvantage.
What about the TMobile MyTouch 3G?
Where does the TMobile MyTouch 3G fit in with all of that?
And why does the description on this board only say "also known as HTC Magic" but not "also known as TMobile MyTouch 3G"?
Thanks for reply.
I would flash roms to my phone, so the UI differences are not so importand for me...
But when I do a comparison between... Hero and Magic (Magic has a Rom with Sense ui)
Am I right if I say they are then very similar??

Well, if you get a T-Mobile MyTouch 3G or some models from Vodafone also means you'll get PVT32B version with 192MB ram. And that isn't really good enough for a HTC Hero Rom. It would eventually lag (slow down) even with swap. PVT32A has 288MB ram FYI. There are pretty good Roms for this one, but from my experience with using Android phones I've never had problems with android 1.6 donut and 2.0 eclair. You can modify them a lot to make it look like the Sense UI if you really want to. Or ofcourse just get the HTC Hero...

I thought HTC already released an update to fix any lag on the phone.

The mt3g is the same
the reason it say also known as the magic is because that is the real name of htc's phone
they use sapphire because thats what its called in the coding
the mt3g is just what tmobile decided to call it because they seem to be the only one's with a contract to switch htc's names (htc now wants to brand themselves so we'll see how much longer that last)...
the difference in the names really doesnt matter... it come down to what type of board you have 32a/32b

Yes that might be.
I'm not that up to date with the Hero, I heard people have had problems with it and not sure if that's fixed by now, that's why I said 'might'.
Other than that what about the motorola droid, that looks good, all metal casing.
Radio differences
pack: Thanks for the reply!
I suppose there are radio differences too since there seems to be a lot of variation in how carriers handle 3G, at least in terms of frequencies used. TMobile and AT&T in the US do 3G differently and it seems that carriers in Europe and Asia have other ways. I don't know, though, if each 3G carrier's version of the Sapphire has an internal name at HTC for differentiation.
It would be great, though, if HTC started coming out with phones that had radios capable of being used on any GSM network, including data at 3G speeds, because everyone I know in the US with a 3G phone that was unlocked and moved from TMobile to AT&T, or vice versa, has to live with 2G data speeds on the other network. Is this the case in Europe too when switching between carriers or moving between countries? Or has 3G data been standardized there?
I would not recommend the Tattoo simply based on it's resistive screen.
The HTC Hero is the best Android offering so far from HTC. If you can get your hands on a HTC Magic 32A version it's just about identical hardware-wise to an HTC Hero.

Is this product real HTC or fake?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260507266652&_trksid=p2759.l1259
A seller from Taiwan saying that this is an OEM HTC Diamond 2 T5353 with European compatible 3G HDSPA.
I know that this is 99% a fake one, but what do you think?

Yes, and that's why it catagorized as "3 mpx and up". (5 is more than 3 btw)
It may not be fake, but it looks like a scam.
- No original picture (stock picture from web)
- "Too good to be true" price
- Copied spec from sales literature
- Inaccurate box contents description (Topaz comes with one battery, and would only include two if it was opened)
- Seller has many low price transactions
- Previous buyer was a new account, linked with phones (often used to add legitimacy, buy phone from second account and re-sale.
Against that though are that there is only one unit for sale. If they had 7 or 8, I'd be more skeptical.
I could well be wrong.
it is very obvious that this is chinese clone

A "very nice" WinMo clone, if specs are correct: a WVGA Screen With 3G/HDSPA(On the ebay auction)
I've never saw something like that on a chinese clone, I think they are wrong about this specs, only the Marvell PXA310 624MHz, I know it is true because I already saw a chinese WinMo one with this processor live, but no 3G neither WVGA screen.
My wife bought a TD2 Asian clone for some ridiculously low price on eBay.
Phone seems to work just fine, no touch flo interface so she's restricted to WM 6.1 at present.
Being a complete noob to all things mobile I was wondering if this phone could be flashed with a cooked rom, and if so, are there any benefits to doing so?

The Hard SPL from this forum will not unlock your device.
You would have to write your own unlocker or possible pay someone here to do it as it is a one off....
As far as advantages, phone will be quicker and more responsive because you eliminate all of the carriers bloatware, plus custom ROMs are tweaked for better performance.

How to check the HTC magic hardware/software?

Hi,
I am in China [no to mention how original the fake products are ]. I want to buy an HTC magic from a home delivery service. But I don't trust that company. And I have no other option but to buy from them. SO, I must to verify if the phone is alright.
Please tell me how I can check and verify if the hardware and software are original. Also please tell me which software to install and how to find out if there is any fault in that phone.
Thanks in advance.
You should becareful when buying magic in china.. I'm in shanghai, bought white magic with google brand in the back of the phone..
Usually the stores there already change the softwares and still keep saying that the phones are new.. But between White and Black Magic have different softwares..
White Magic's software imitated iphone.. very ugly (you can tell the difference by look at it).. Black Magic's software closest to the normal I think developed by HIAPK.. I still don't know what HIAPK is..?
When I asked them to change the software in my White Magic to Black Magic's software, they bricked my phone So they changed it with the Black Magic.. they said the white magic's software can't be change to black magic's software, if you try to change it, it will be brick again"
So, up until now, I'm too scare to modified my ROM maybe because of the bad experienced before

Can you help me please with >>> HTC Magic ?

Hi
I am planning to buy HTC Magic because I found one in good price
But I am afraid to buy it and face problems with it
so please help me
do it run like a crap ?
do it support 2.1 or 2.2 offically ?
What you dont like in it ?
i cant buy anther model because in my contry the prices are so high and this is the cheapest one
and thank you
Please tell us your country, so that we can figure out which model (32A or 32B) the device is. 32A has 2.1 with Sense UI, while 32B has 2.2.1 without SenseUI.
UAE but i dont know because maybe the mobile was imported from outside
ok answer the other qustions ? like the performance of it ?
and thank you
Power it off and then hold down Volume Down and press Power. Write down what it says (the first 5-6 rows).
i didnt buy it yet
but why are you asking about the model
is it that important
is one is faster thsn the other ?
There are some small differences in hardware, like the 32B has less RAM. Also, SenseUI ROMs generally run on the 32A.
which one that support more roms ?
what do you prefare and why ?
the phone is 32a
i called the buyer now
is it good or no ??
do you advice me to buy ?
It's like the one I have, should be fine if it doesn't have any problems. You can install either Android 2.1 with SenseUI (very pretty!) or 2.2.1 without SenseUI (a lot faster).
Enjoy your new phone!
Personally I'd say save up and get something better, Magic is really old hardware, it's had a good run but considering it will be far too slow to run Android 3.0, it isn't with it imo.
what is the best rom for it ?
??????????
Anything based on tmobile or vodafone 2.2.1
Try a few and decide yourself, there's no "best rom". It all depends on what you need from a phone.

[Q] Which version of HD2 shall I go for

Hi Friends I am going to purchase a used HTC HD2 so i need your help in choosing as in which version shall i buy the old htc hd2 or the tmobile version please help. I am from India
t-mobile version is the best
T-mobile offers 1GB of NAND (which is excellent !!!) .. but you need to be careful of what radio you flash, it is easily bricked by flashing an incorrect radio
So, yes, go for the T-mobile. (but be careful)
TMOUS ..............

No doubt HD2 T-Mous .... I own HD2 WWE and T-mous ...
Buy original T-mobile I had it from last 2 years no problem. Try to get original with windows mobile 6.5 unlocked. Do not be fascinated by Android or Windows 7 in HD2 as preinstalled because you can install them yourself when you get the phone. And you never know preinstalled android or W7 might have some bugs or tweaks required. good luck. And congrats because you are about to buy the most powerful phone in the world.
Thank you very very much
Thank you Thank you Thank you I am going to get the tmobile version in a few days however anyways to check if its a genuine tmobile any signs i can look for ?
Also I really appreciate you guys making an effort to reply as this was my first post in the hd2 world, and I am going to sell a 8 months old galaxy ace for the HD2 and your reviews have just concreted my decision hence cheers HD2 here I come
Hey.. b carefull!!
I appreciate your choice to buy HTC HD2, its amazing set
But be careful, some of the HTC HD2 sets have unresolvable hardware issue, that is they get overheated followed by freeze on mild to moderate usage, they work fine until their temp rises to 36~37 C, suddenly they freeze like that nothing will work, neither hardware keys, nor screen will respond, no other way to except pull out battery, wen u ll restart phone, it will vibrate 7 times and again will freeze, only way to let phone work again is to let it cool down for 5,7 minutes
So this sort of mobile set will be handicap especially in temperate climate of India, so i recommend you that when you examine your mobile, do anything like wifi downloading, net browsing, mobile call, video playback for at least 15, 20 mins and observe if this phenomena happen, if you find so, don't purchase such mobile set
Regards
Thanks a ton

Can anyone give the reason to go for T mobile HD2 other than 1 GB Rom in it..
I am getting HD2 EU version and was just curious why not other HD2
Will 1GB Nand makes any difference in flashing or any other activities or general working of the phone as such? .. obviously 1GB>512MB so ppl will obviously go for it, but just want to know will it make any difference
Bigger ROM space is very very useful & touchscreen on TMOUS is the revision 300 type.
If you can not get TMOUS then a 512mb version will do ok ...

I am getting 512 HD2 EU version only.. Can you tell the major difference btw 1024 vs 512 HD2...
Also what is this revision 300 type.. how is it different from 512 HD2 ?
Just curious..
revision screen has better build & not same supplier as 295 solder type & plug clip connector between LCD & digi.
You will find some 512 models have later type 300 screen & you can check this in bootloader.
As for RAM you will wish you had more but it is not a big problem.
Honestly? The end user will probably not notice the difference between the two The only thing that matters is how well the previous owner has taken care of the device!
If you still have doubts then ask yourself 2 things:
1. Are you going to be cooking your own ROMs?
2. Are you going to repair the phone yourself if it breaks?
If you can answer no to those questions then the best choice for you is the phone in the best condition - simple as that!
If you want to know the differences then the US version has a different digitizer that is more easy to chance if it breaks and then of course 1024 mb of NAND memory The latter might be a tempting point to choose the TMUS over the EU version but again you have to ask yourself if you are going to use the extra memory? Dont you use your memorycard? The only thing that comes to mind for me personally is that of bad sectors The more NAND you have the more bad sectors you can have but that is a small problem only... Go for the phone that is in best condition - period!

i'm surprised no one has mentioned the RADIO differences between the EU n TMOUS models.
my understanding is that if you require using 3G data, then the EU model is more friendly/compatible to the bands/frequencies used in most regions of the globe. the bands/frequencies supported by the TMOUS for 3G r more friendly with the TMOUS network.
someone please correct me if the above factor is incorrect!

Yep, that's what I had heard as well. Plus, I have the international version and can't connect to T-Mo's 3g.
TMobile 3G Network radio frequency - HSDPA 1700 / 2100
Other International 3G Network radio frequency - HSDPA 900 / 2100
One should have problem only with upload in Tmobile 3G frequency if he/she uses international version.. Am i right here?
Also is there any possibility that NAND roms size goes above 512 MB ? in that case how the international version handles it..
Radio difference is not a big issue, TMOUS works on GSM/Edge worldwide & 3G has worked fine for me in UK/Germany/Spain/Hong Kong/Singapore/Thailand on various networks ...
Good condition HD2 is most critical issue as posted above, I bought a TMOUS as cheap here new & come with 16gb SD plus 1GB RAM is a slight plus & they have the better screen as standard & later built units also have revision mainboard.
an wwe/eu hd2 does all the job that a tmous hd2 can !!
its just the rom difference ie 512mb vs the 1024mb in tmous !!
u'll mainly need the extra rom size while flashing the sense roms !!
sense roms are usually bigger is size and u'll require an ext3/4 partition on sd card for processing the dalvik cache !!
tmous hd2 doesnt require the ext3/4 partition as the extra 512mb is available on it !!
cyanogenmod, miui, wp7, wp7.5 and other os's !! work fine on both models !!
here is a comparison of both the devices !!
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=2957&idPhone2=3228
you'll just find the difference in the extra nand memory !!
and i think ur from mumbai so device will be used in india !
in india, 2G bands :900 1800 and 3G : 2100
are the respective network frequencies !!
so both devices will have full network support !!
good luck !!
choose wisely ! !!
