XDA Tom Codon Wifi Sharing not showing in Connections - Imagio General

Hi Folks,
I successfully used this prior. This a.m. I did a hard reset, reloaded all my apps from SD Card but for some reason the XDA Wifi Sharing isn't showing up in Connections. This happened once before and I am not sure how I got it to show up.
Any thoughts? I am not even sure what the actual app name in Windows would be to make a shortcut.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Had the same issue at one time too. I know its obvious but a soft reset fixed for me.
Think its called WiFi sharing, IIRC

Took me awhile to find but it actually is CMInternet. I'm still not sure why some installs put it in Connections and some don't, but either way I have it and that's important.
I used Total Commander to create a shortcut in Start Menu and now I'm all good.

older versions of this app dont put the shortcut on your CommManager. I had to go to Settings, then view All Settings, then Connections folder, and I could access it this way. I just leave it on all the time. But if I had to disable it or enable it again, it only takes all of 15 seconds. And I am by no means a techie. So if I could do it, then anyone can

HTC Touch stuck in Windows folder

Pls need help urgently
My HTC Touch is stuck in the windows folder in file explorer , tried soft resetting and battery removal yet explorer starts in windows folder and am unable to use explorer, have no alternate explorer software either nor do i have any registry modification software. cant afford to lose data from hard resetting.
Please guys, this is an emergency
Thanks in advance...
Me too!!
My phone does the exact same thing. Ditto. It just hangs in the default explorer mode under windows....and I have to end it from the task manager. It was annoying in the begining but then I got resco explorer.....works a million times better than the stock file explorer, but the fact remains that I still have the same problems with it. I would recommend you install resco explorer and continue so tht it doesn't hamper your phones usage.
Inputs from anyone on this really appreciated.
It is very slow for me too. Do you still see the icon moving indicating that the device is working at opening the folder? If so, You just try to be patient and let it work itself out. If it is really getting stuck, try hooking up your device to your computer using activesinc and see if you can access the windows folder that way. If you have been saving things to the windows folder, then move them out of the windows folder into another folder so that there isn't anything else extra in the windows folder that doesn't need to be there. Do this through activesinc using your computer. Also, if you have other applications running in the background while trying to access the Window's folder, you will see a slow down in performance while it is trying to access the files in the folder.
The device just hangs entirely....I dont see anything on the screen. Just the busy icon...and I've tried giving it some time as well. Left it untouched for upto 15-20 mins at times. And still no go. Would it take longer than that? Besides when I try to end the program from the task manager, it shows the program not responding pop up as well indicating the application has hung. I can access the windows folder through activesync without any problems. Is this like a bug or a known issue or something like that? I used to think its only my device...alas....Im not alone!
Actually it is not stuck, frozen or hanged ... it just takes a loooooooooong time
That happened to me, use some other sw like GS Finder (freeware)

I havn't heard of any known bugs or issue with accessing Windows folder. For me it usually takes a couple of minutes minimum to open the Windows folder. All other folders open immediately. Maybe you should try a different app for viewing your files as already suggested. I really can't say what is causing your problems. Could be that you have an app installed that is causing conflict. I don't know how much better a different app would work for viewing your files; however, it may be worth a try in your case. It seems unnessarily long to open the windows folder. I have tried using different programs to access my windows folder and it still takes at least 2 minutes to open the folder to view the contents. I avoid it as much as possible.
also - Don't let your phone go to sleep when your device is trying to open the windows folder. I have found that once when I let my device go to sleep while working on opening the file that it did freeze and I needed to perform a soft reset.

This happens to me too. It just takes a long time loading all the files in windows, it's not stuck. But what an odd problem :S
hello
It's slow .. always has been .. always wil be ....
It's slow in the Diamond...
Touch HD ...
It slow as it has to read all the files on thre ROM .. yes it should be faster .. but the so should life !!
It works!
You know guys....all this time....I thought my device was being retarded and thats why file explorer would hang....but after reading what all of y'all had to say....I decided to give it one more shot...and I tried it...and left it on.......and after wht seemed like an eternity.....I was finally able to open the windows folder (ofcourse I had to wait approx 25 mins which I think is insane...coz no one in their right mind will ever wait that long to open a single folder). But it did work. And so I guess in conclusion, it doesn't hang....it really does take a s*** load of time to open. Now I dare not go into the windows directory using file explorer
Thanks you guys.

Try using one of the newer cooked ROMs, it should only take 10-20 seconds now.
guys, i also faced this problem several times , it takes loong looong time to load.. anybody has resco explorer ?
I had same issue but got fed up with it and reset my Touch and reloaded all software. it loads up windows folder much quicker now say 20 seconds compared to -well in the end it was not even opening it. I think its like windows - after time the registry gets clogged up and it just grinds to a halt. i am always trying out new software which never fully deletes.
HTC Touch stuck in Windows folder - solution!
I believe we have found out why the HTC Touch is stuck in the windows folder in file explorer. I inadvertently had the unit sort by "file type". When I did that, the problems began. As soon as I reset the sort to "name" - everything went back to normal (fast). I was ready to take the thing back when we noticed the difference in speed between his phone and my phone.
i used to have this problem with the original rom but it usually was about 2 miutes (not 25) but after CID unlock higher ipl/spl (3.07) and onx 4.2.1 rom it works fine
I had the same problem, and i solved it by overclocking the processor to 221 Mhz and left the file explorer do its work till it read all the files in windows folder then it was returned to normal... then i changed the directory (tapped on UP)... and voila... it's back to normal...
Just got the pro and my windows folder was working fine until i sorted by type accidentally (i have meat thumbs) and it just hung for awhile, so i shut the screen off and let it do its thing. Came back after searching the forums and seen an error "An Information Rights Management error has occured. If the problem persists, reboot your device or re-activate Information Rights Management by connecting to your PC" i had it plugged in before this and when i was done copying this to the device i just unplugged it the quick way rather than going to disconnect USB device in the taskbar. Hooked it back up to windows and released it through the taskbar, now it works fine in the windows folder. Dont know if this would solve ur problem but it may help figure out the problem.

Yes you have mate- works like a charm now. thanks

If I don't fix it, I will have to hard reset.

This sucks. Everything was going great but for someone reason lately, I am having trouble turning on my XV6800 from standby. Some times I have to hit the power button more then once. Or wait for a couple of seconds then it turns on. It is not dependent on the power button, because when I switched it to turn on when any button is on, it still won't turn on. What does get it out for good is if there is a call or a text that wakes its self up. But other times the power button works great.
I would love to solve this problem! I used SKTools to see what is running as soon as I hit the power button and hit it again to turn on. Both TimeWizard.exe and shell32.exe are at hundred for that second. Is that ok/normal? Have any suggestings before I hard reset?
If I do hard reset, I am wondering if instead of going to MR1 I should go with a WM6.5 rom. Is it really more trouble then its worth? I get about 21 of 22MB at startup (aftering clearing ram in beginning). What's the average for WM6.5 with the titan? I rather fix my problem and not hard reset, hate to reinstall all the software and do all the registry hacks all over again.
edit: Looks like this is an issue (a lot of people had it) that cannot be solved without hard reseting. So I still need to decide what route (MR1 or WM6.5) to go with...
I personally like 6.5. With the inclusion of a tool called nueKernel, many ROMs will boot with up to 28ish MB of RAM in high memory mode on a fresh install. In low memory mode, it's usually between 20 and 22. High memory mode, if you aren't aware, temporarily disables the camera. Low memory mode enables the camera. You can switch back and forth easily using a setting in your System menu.
Also, make note of any tools you currently use on your Today screen. Any third party additions may not exist for the new Titanium layout. There are a bunch of new add-ins for it that will most likely do everything that you need, but do some poking around first. You can also use the older today screen on 6.5 if you can't find what you need for Titanium, but that ruins a lot of the fun.
Since you use SKTools, you can also easily export any registry tweaks you put in, and re-import them on whichever ROM you decide to use. It's fairly easy.
There are a number of ROMs to choose from between XDA and ppcgeeks. Read some of the comments and check out what the chef includes. It will be pretty different than the official Verizon ROM you are used to, but that's usually a good thing. I currently use bbsandkm's 6.5 ROM from ppcgeeks, but that's personal preference. Ryan and TPLane here on XDA make some amazing ROMs that you can use, too.
But before you flash to any non-official ROM, please make sure you read up on the guides to do it properly. It's really pretty simple, but you need to just follow the directions.
Is the around 20MB the amount with Titanium? I love HTC Home since I can use the Today calendar. All these new plugins never show the complete day of apointments.
Yeah I would have to do some reading before I even consider. I do know I would have to downgrade to the original 6.0 OS before going custom. Would I have to go back to 6.0 again and then 6.1 if I decide I don't like 6.5? Already getting scared just thinking about it lol.

In high memory mode after installing all my programs, I start with between 25 and 26 meg free. That is using Titanium.
The only reason (I think) that you'd need to downgrade to 6.0 is if your GPS does not work after your upgrade. And no, you wouldn't need to re-install 6.1 during the process.
Downgrade is necessary if you have a pri of 2.03xx and want gps to work on your custom rom.
I got so sick of this problem I just hard resetted and went for MR1. I will switch to WM6.5 maybe later in the future.
However, I notice my Titan did it again today! It barely has anything on it right now. So I am guessing my memory card might be the problem. So much stuff on it (its a 16GB) like portable apps, every cab I have ever downloaded etc. That's my only guess. Would a memory card be causing this problem?

What you are experiencing is a DSOD (dark screen of death). Usually its because of something installed to your storage card that is always running(not good, things like that need installed to device memory). Also make sure you have no .exe's in the 2577 folder on storage card (if you have the folder).
Here are some possible examples of DSOD's
Disable the automatic ActiveSync checking. This is the official solution from Verizon Data Technical Support.
Do not install software on the storage card that might trigger automatically. That means: Absolutely no today plug-ins, no ring tones, nothing that runs in the background, and nothing that could accidentally be triggered if you hit one of the buttons of your device.
Do not store data that might be accessed automatically. Same thing. Basically, do not store mail attachments on the storage card if you have wireless sync.
Close programs that use the storage card before turning your device off. Magic Button is an excellent tool to do this.
If you do install programs on the storage card, do NOT use the "Programs" window or the start menu to start them. Instead, use a File Explorer to run them. If you use "Programs" or the start menu, that program will be in your list of recently accessed applications in the start menu. So the next time you turn your device on and click on the start menu, the system will access your storage card to load the icon of the application - this will create a noticeable delay of several seconds, if not DSOD.
Don't randomly install crap. Every single piece of software you install could interfere with your system. Limit the software you install to what you really need. Check the forums, some people named a few programs that explicitly did not work for them.
I hope this helps you out.
Wow thanks, that helps a lot!
edit: Not my day. Don't ask me why but I decided to clean some registry after cleaning up my card. Well I deleted something that effects me to not see the verizon mobile site. I posted about it before here. At least now I know what I did wrong with that problem. Anyway, if I were to hard reset, will it revert back to a clean MR1 with all the Verizon stuff? So far I have been just reinstalling MR1 which does it all. The reason I ask is I hate to wait until tonight to do this again. Thanks guys.

Wow, you learn something new every day! Amazing writeup.
It happened again last night but I am thinking it might be caused by the latest SKTools. But not sure since I had it almost a month before this happened. I might go all day without it and see if that is the case. Then if it is the I will get the lower version.
Also, I am going crazy here, which registry edit is to take away the keyboard lag? I cannot remember if it had to do with increasing the gyphe or whatever maybe taking away the speed of the keyboard when it lights up. I just cannot remember. I looked at tons of posts here and PPcgeeks but still cannot find or figure out which one did it. Thanks guys. I need to seriously remember these registry hacks for next time.
ok: it was not SKtools. I put it back on. I decided to wipe my memory card clean and start over. So far so good! Now I will have time to find some registry edits.

Gotta learn this stuff

You guys are genious. I need serious help. First I have a services.exe error everytime I shut off or soft reset. Any one know what to do or if it even matters.
Second all this talk about running things and saving space. I need more memory saving. I don't have a clue what I really need and what I can get rid off to save oh ram. or hard drive memory too. Please tell me exactly what to do.
NExt on my HTC Imagio I want to run SBP mobile shell but I want to run TF3 too because I like the weather start up on it and I can't get to it with spb shell running someone talked about it but I can't figure out what to do based on what I read, I want to start up TF3 and then hit a button to go to shell. ANy one know how to do itl Also I have Pocket Mechanic and all kinds of tools but not SK Tools. I have Vitual Espolorer cuz I thought that would help me ID files but now that I can ID them I doh't know what I need and what I don;t. If I get SK Tools will it help me know what to do. Nothing comes with a manual anynmore. I need a detailed manual for the phone and how it works not what it does. Can anyone answer these with esplicit directions cuz I don;t know a .dll from anything else. I only know that an exe runs something, So Im really dumb about all this. ANyone know how to help. It 2:30 AM and I;ve been up all night for a week trying to figure out things on this phone. So far I like it a lot but the more I add the slower I get and I might want to add more. HELP!!!!!! Going crazy.....
OK, that's a whole lot for anyone to try to process. First things first, what's your biggest problem? The best way to get help is to knock down the issues one at a time.
The first problem is I have a services.exe error every time I turn the phone on after it's been off or any time I reset it. That's first
Based on a little Googling, it looks like the only fix for a services.exe error is a hard reset. I pasted the info on a hard reset below for you:
This will wipe all data off the phone and restore factory default settings.
1. While the phone is off, press and hold Volume Down + Talk/Send + End/Power.
2. When the device displays a message about wiping the data, release all 3 buttons.
3. Press Volume Up to complete the hard reset.

I don't know what programs you are trying to move, listen, just forget moving programs, back up or your files via myphone or use activesync to store everything you want on your computer. When you perform a hard reset either by the method listed or by going to Start->settings->all settings->system->memory then selecting clear storage tab, letting win mo come back up and customize then before you do anything when it restarts, hard reset again, for some reason this helps the functionality of native software. Then immediately take care of the tv icon, proxy mem. tweak, and nopifix. Then what ever you need to install try to install to your sd card via downloading from this xda site for cab files or doing a little google searching rather than installing directly from market place. EXCEPTION: DO NOT INSTALL TWEAKS TO SD CARD OR ITEMS THAT ROTATE THE SCREEN. Keep all the cab files on your pc or on your storage card so that you have them whenever you decide to hard reset or flash your device. Enjoy your imagio thing only become easier the more you use and play.
I must not have my activcesnyc set up right because the only thing it backsup is my contacts, email, journal and a file folder full of what ever I want to but in that folder but thats snyc with my docs on my devic and I don't want to over load it. When I had a palm it used to back everythng up to a file on my computr and I could just reinstall but this windows stuff doesn't seem to do it. How do I set up active sync to sync everythi ng on my devide and card to back up to my computer.? Ans I don't have a clue what you were talking aabout when you said take care of your tv and those other files, not a clue. I have mobil shell on my phone is that what your taling about not having on the phoen. You need to talk like your talking to a 12 year old when your explaining this stuff to me. Thanks. L

Hey you said something about getting rid of the tv icon and other stuff after a hard reset, but never explained in detail. plz help, thx
After weeks of zero issues (aside from memory leak), I just got a barrage of services.exe errors this morning. Phone was throwing error after error even after a soft reset. After three soft resets it's finally working now (after another services.exe error). I didn't make a single change to my configuration though so I'm a big perplexed as to why these just started showing up now. I was really starting to get content with my Imagio too...sigh.

opera 10 and camera usage

am i the only one getting mad problems trying to use both together? i ll have opera 10 open and minimized and ill try to run the camera and it will fail to initialize alot, sometimes just fail to initialize, sometimes it says not enough memory, but opera 10 will be the only other app running...
anyone else have this happening to them
I have this problem too. I think this is a known issue and there are no fixes as far as I can tell. you just have to kill opera 10 before starting camera or just use opera 9.7.
I used to have this problem
I used to have this problem but I removed most of the startup programs along with the \program files\selfservice (just renamed to stop.selfservice) programs and I can run everything at the same time. I even removed the bluet hoot service app in the startup but you can opened via shortcut.

connect to your PC with activesync, then use your PC to navigate to my device\windows\startup on the phone.
you know I just tried opening opera and camera and it's fine. perhaps it's working with the leo cpu patch now.
Just to follow up
My phone has been on 3 days without rebooting and I haven't close at all Opera 10. I have 26 processes running including 10 apps running. I think I solved the problem on my phone, not a single mem error.
So the problem was either in the startup apps or the selfservice apps.
By the way I don't use sense, i use SPB MS and s2u2, the phone feels fast very fast even with all that load?(only 179mb RAM free).

So, I have connected my phone using activesync, and every time i open the files on my phone, the windows directory is no where to be found. Why is this? I can find the windows directory just fine when using file explorer on my phone. But not via my computer.

Did you try to unhide the folders on Windows explorer>tools>folder options> check "Show hidden files and folders" remember not to delete the files in the startup folder just move them, maybe you'll need them if something doesnt work well specially BThoot.
Do you open it and choose to connect as active sync on the phone or disk drive? I think when I choose to connect as disk drive, then only the storage card shows up and not the on device storage.

As active sync, and yes that's correct you can't see the phone storage when accessing it in disk drive mode.
The items in the startup folder are mostly just .lnk files, which are links to the executables in the \windows folder...so as long as you can find those again if ever needed, then it's safe to just delete anything in there with a .lnk extension.

T mobile HD2 latest ROM(how ever I was ok using old ROM).
SPB mobile shell 3.5.5 (Sense theme)
S2U2
Arkswitch
In My startup programs(windows/startup)>
arkswitch
ilock2
lumosstarter
spbmobileshell
everything else I moved to
windows/startup2 (or anywhere)
there is an app called BTtrayCE, this enables the bluethoot, so if i want to enable bluethoot i press a shortcut that i made to that app, then i turn bluethoot, probably is ok to leave bttrayCE but anyway i dont use it.
then i renamed the folder
program files/Selfservice to program files/stopselfservice
in this folder there is a lot of trash from t mobile that starts when you turn on the phone.
I think one of my main advantages is SPB ms, really, it disables all that sense stuff that crashes the phone (in my opinion), you can get better performance by using titanium but, it is not too productive.
I'm attaching some pictures of my phone. it is running since morning (it died because of battery) the last screen shot i posted before
Again no problems with the performance at all battery last for 1.5 days but i dont have data plan, just wifi 21 hrs a day.
Hope it helpsss

Awesome Roberto, thank you! I haven't gone in to clean out my startup group yet, but according to what you're showing even the few things that are in there now can go...although I might just put bttray back in there since I use BT all the time.
Also, oddly enough, I don't have the program files/selfservice folder you mention...maybe it's new in the 2.13 ROM...?
They came on 2.13

Actually yes I think they came with the new 2.13 ROM. For some reason with those files running I wasn't able to open more than 5 apps at the same time - they were autoclosing-, i think that's t mo's solution for stability in the HD2.
alright so i deleted some things, and i thinkk i may have messed something up.

could someone send me their startup folder shortcuts so i can compare what you have in there?
like an idiot....i didnt backup before i started deleting

Here you go man, I haven't cleaned mine out yet so everything that came stock is in there with the exception of BTTray.lnk. That and any of the .lnk files you see below should be available for you in the \windows root.

Yes I guess I misunderstood, I thought you just needed to know which ones you needed to copy the links for out of your windows folder again.

[Q] (Q) Can't change static IP settings

I got my Iconia yesterday and set it up. IT wouldn't connect to my wireless network via DHCP so I did what I do with every android device, I assigned it a static IP. Worked awesome!
This moring I downloaded the .13 OTA as I was prompted to, but after the install I can no longer connect to my wifi.
The killer part is that it will not let me connect or even modify the ip settings.
Here's the crazy part, I have rebooted it (even using Acer's clear userdata and cache trick) and the settings are still in there. They don't go away, I can't modify them and I can't connect.
Any ideas?
Here's an idea....
Can I root it and then modify the file that holds the Static IP information? I assume it would be in /etc/ somewhere.
Strike that. I can't even install teh root APK because I have no file manager to naviagte to the APK file to root it. this sucks. I'm about 2 minutes away from returning this thing and getting an ASUS transformer.

Gingerroot? It is an app that you install. The best way is to allow unknown sources download the app connect to the computer, save in to the internal storage (/sdcard) and then use a file manager like astride or file manager hd to install the apk

I was actually able to get wireless access through my mifi and download Astro so I installed the root apk and successfully rooted it. Unfortunately now I have no idea where to change those IP settings.
Have you tried to delete the wireless connection (Wireless & Networks>Wi-Fi settings> Select Network and choose Forget network) and recreate it again?

Yes, it retains the ip settings no matter what. I have tried 'forget' I have soft resetted, I have held down the left volume and hard resetted, I have even held own the right volume and done the switch thing to clear the user and data cache.
If anyone knows of any way to configure the IP other than in the stock menu I would appreciate it.
I can see the ip config, but I can not change it, nor save it, nor connect with it.
Have you tried the market app WiFi Static? I use it in my home LAN because I have several laptops and ip cans set up. It works great and is free.
Ok you need to go using root explorer or a file manager with root rights, to /data/misc/wifi and edit the wpa_supplicant.conf file, and delete the fixed ip connection. I would recommend you to do a backup of the file before editing it.
Best Regards.

Okay, that got me part way there. I purchased Root Explorer went to the directory and edited out that wireless access point from the wpa_supplicant.conf file. Unfortunately the static IP settings are still coming up the same way - greyed out and unusable. As a matter of fact they were the same settings that have been there since I first put them in.

I tried wifi static but it doesn't seem to actually change the IP address.

try then, to create a new connection for the fixed ip manually, use the Add Wi-FI network. I think you are seeing a ghost connection, like the ad-hoc connection of my phone, that appears but is not available.

Good thought, but the same settings keep coming up. I even tried renaming the router and then adding it but the same static IP settings came up.
I think my only solution is to find that file that stores the static IP settings and find out what is keeping it from connecting.

ok, where I told you before wpa-supplicant.conf file was there is another file called something like ipconfig.txt , delete it and that's it. Must work , there are you fixed ip settings.

Yes there is. I have deleted it and reset the system (reset button) unfortunately all my settings are still there.
I'm torn between being really pissed off at Acer and being fascinated by solving the problem.
I don't know, maybe I jsut need to suck it up and figure out why DHCP won't work on any of my android devices, but the static PI thing has been working fine until now.
Wow that's funny because I did created a static ip network at my job, do the steps I told you, and the settings were gone. I was able to recreate the connection with a different ip without problems. I would recommend use mybackup root free application from the marker and do a full backup of your applications, but NOT the systems settings, do a full factory reset and restore the applications with mybackup root, so, you won't loose your apps. Something is wrong with your systems data.

You are going to hate me for this, but I have done that a couple of times. It did erase everything (and I mean everything) except for those static IP settings.
But perhaps you have another rest that I have not tried. the two I have tried are:
1) hold down the left side volume rocker and hold down power.
2) hold down the right side rocker, hold down power and throw the screen lock switch
EDIT: I also tried a factory reset. No dice. Settings are still there.

I'm talking about under Settings Privacy>Factory data reset. It erases all you data including the system settings. That's why you need a backup tool to restore your data.
So the steps are:
Install MyBackup Root from market.
Do a full application + application settings backup. The backup will be on you internal SD.
Copy everything in your internal SD to a computer.
Do the factory reset.
Do the setup again and download from market again mybackup root, after rooting you tablet.
Copy from the PC all you internal SD data to your tablet.
Restore your backup.
I will recommend before restoring your data to set the wi-fi connection and test it various times.
NB the reset you have done are only cache cleaning, all your applications and settings are kept. This one erases everything.

Well is impossible that the tablet keeps the settings after a factory reset. It must delete every thing included you installed applications and revert the unit like a new one from the store, asking you to do the initial setup as if new. If this didn't happened to you, them the only explanation is that the eprom chip is damaged (the internal sd memory) and you must return the unit.
