Should be covered by your household insurance, possibly for a small extra premium. OTOH it's always worth reading moneysavingexpert.. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/cheap-mobile-phone-insurance

insurance

I just got my TYTN II and its great. Considering the amount i paid for the phone, and the fact that i bought it because i broke the screen on my 8525, im thinking i should get insurance for it.
Does anyone have insurance for the phone? If so how much does it cost? Have you replaced a phone with them before? Any recommendations would be great! Thanks.
saying where you live might help (ie UK, US etc...)
I just insured mine for £53 for one year @ talkcover.com - full loss, accidental damage, theft etc.
sorry. I live in the US.

would that cover you if something happened to it while you were traveling to the US?
Well you can get your device insured for $100-$200 I believe. That covers all drop and falls. Why dont you just call HTC and lie to them? It worked with me 100%. They sent me a brand new replacement ^_^

are there any US companies that will do cell insurance?? safeware.com used to but dont anymore..
I used http://www.squaretrade.com to insure my TyTn II.
i contacted safeware to see if they would offer insurance for this phone... when i emailed them, i gave all the known names for the device, kiaser, tytn II, 8925 (TILT), etc.... and the response i got was scary.. see if you can catch the scary part!
We would like to thank for the inquiry. Unfortunately we do not currently offer coverage for the 8925, but we are strongly considering it. We are researching the ability to repair the unit, and we are investigating repair depot options at this time. We will be more than happy to collect your contact information, and you will be contacted when we begin offering coverage for the iPhone. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I paid $829 for my TyTN II, SquareTrade's quote is $213.99 for 3 Years with ADP (accidental drop and spill coverage). I've never insured a phone and am now on the fence. I like this phone as it's just about perfect. I can't think of what model would make me jump in the next 12/24 months, well, if it was slightly thinner with a bigger Transreflective-VGA screen I'd go again

Really? I have two PDAs insured with them (the 8525 and 8125). Cost me about $60 a year for $500 coverage on each phone. Recently, I added my Tilt to the account. Haven't yet heard from them. I added the new phone online at their web site. I hope they haven't dropped this service.

Camera Replacement

Hey people,
Last night I accidentally dropped my DHD and unfortunately it landed on the camera. The camera glass is now broken and the grommet is dented also.
Does anyone know if there are replacements for this part yet? I'm in Australia so an online parts shop would be perfect...
Thanks for the help!

Make a claim on your phone insurance.
You do have phone insurance, dont you? I'm sure no one on XDA forums are foolish enough to invest in a £500 device and not have the safety net of insurance for when we inevitably drop it and smash it into smithereens.

Can you quote the part of the HTC warranty conditions where it says that they will happily replace components that got destroyed by "improper handling, such as dropping the phone on the floor very hard"?
I'd be really thrilled to read it.
Only thing I agree with is contacting HTC is the best bet at the moment, i am sure they will offer a repair for that damage, although they will charge quite a bit for it
http://www.htc.com/www/support/warranty.html
Click where your are i clicked wester Europe and Page 3 please read
HTC does not cover this sort of damage.
The warranty only covers manufacturing faults.
Check home insurance, it probably covers accidental damage to items in the home and may cover the phone if one item limit is high enough.
Oh unlucky m8 guess you will have to cough up cash to repair the phone
The chances are the camera still works, and it is just the lens cover that you have broken.
Look for a dummy camera, such as
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-HTC...976?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item255f090e60
Look on Android forum that shows how to replace.
http://androidforums.com/incredible...cover-replacement-straightening-red-ring.html
Hope this helps.
Yeah, was just unlucky I guess.
Lucky enough where the crack is on the camera lens it doesn't actually show on photos.
Will contact HTC to see.
Cheers for the help!

Asurion.. claiming lost instead of damaged

If I claim damaged to asurion will they make me send in my phone(bricked)? vs.. claiming lost phone I can keep my original? .... is this cheating?
Cheating? No.
Insurance fraud, a criminal act? Yes.
is me bricking the phone covered legally? If I tell them I messed it up will they cover it?
Un-brick it....seriously. There is enough information on this fora to fix 99.9999999% of all problems with this phone. Stop being lazy.
Well.. I've got an galaxy s 4g.. so not so easy..I've been fairly persistent in trying for about 3 days.. problem is no .pit file available. I've tried everything.. get a couple tar's to load about 95 percent but fail right at the end. I do have an extra tmo phone i can use for the time being but the sms4g forum is a very small group compared to the vibrant community here. I know something will probably come out in time but the way things look on our board it could be some time.
You're in the wrong forum...
It is insurance fraud....get F*cked if you are trying to "beat" the system. You knew what could happen if you played around, and now you want to wash your hands of it. Have patience.
I mean you could tryv and play the pitty game and say "i master reseted it and it broke idk whats going on?!?" Then hope they dont find out. And if they do say you have no idea what they are talking about.

In that case, I'd say they also don't mind raising the rates for everyone to cover all the extra payouts caused by these sort of folks. Sure insurance goes up every year but if you think this irresponsible behavior has no bearing on that then I must strongly disagree.

Broken devices are still worth money. A bricked phone can still be reflashed by the manufacturer and resold as a refurb, or components from it can be reused on other damaged/broken devices.
If you report it damaged you have to send the device back. Lost, you don't because you obviously don't have it. Stolen, you don't, but you'll need to provide them with a police report # to get a replacement.
Well I struggled a bit with this.. but bottom line is I had no intention of damaging the device.. kinda like if I took it to a water park and it got wet...or when I take it when I go jogging I know I'm at risk at dropping it. It's not like I damaged it on purpose just to get a new one. So I made the claim and was honest when describing the damage... it said I needed to call them for them to research my damage more.. so I called and they didn't ask me anything.. just where I want the new one sent. They also told me I had the option of sending the damaged one back or not.. if I didn't that Tmobile would charge me another $30 dollars. I specifically asked her if I wanted to keep it for future problems like glass breakage or something else and she said it was totally up to me and just to remember the $30 dollar charge.
So tonight someone posted a .pit file and of course it worked and I'm back up and running so tomorrow I'll call and let them know it started working again and will send the replacement back and hopefully get my $130 returned sooner than later. THanks for the replies.. was good to get some feedback.

[FAQ] Sprint Insurance and Warranty

I see a lot of misinformation being thrown around, so I'll just compile this little FAQ on how everything actually works. Feel free to point out anything I've left or any mistakes you think I may have made.
Q: What exactly is "Sprint insurance"?
A: Sprint TEP insurance is a combination of two things, ESRP and ERP. ESRP stands for Equipment Service and Repair Plan. ERP stands for Equipment Replacement Plan.
Q: So what's the difference?
A: ESRP is anything in a Sprint repair location. Including but not limited to part replacement, software updates, and advanced exchanges. Anything software related (such as updates, resets, etc) are always free. If you do not have ESRP or the full TEP, you may be charged $35 to replace a part or exchange the device.
ERP is everything else outside of that, which is handled by Asurion. This includes lost/stolen, liquid damaged, and physically damaged beyond repair. Depending on the type of device, there would be a $50 or $100 deductible to replace it. Usually, the replacement device is overnighted to you.
Q: So about the Evo and it's charging port, what is that covered under?
A: It depends. The technician would have to take it apart and look at it. If the charge port is broken cleanly free from the board, it's a known issue and can be replaced free of charge, even without TEP/ESRP. If the solder joints appear damaged and circuit board is peeled, it is not covered in-store and you would be referred to Asurion for ERP.
Q: Cracked screen?
A: No longer covered under ESRP, as per policy. Referred to Asurion. Sometimes a one-time courtesy screen replacement can be done, but the ESRP/TEP rules also apply in terms of a $35 charge.
Q: But what about warranty?
A: Warranty only applies to one thing in terms of Sprint: Batteries. 1 year after the initial activation of the device, a defective battery may be exchanged. After that one year, the system will not populate a replacement battery. As far as anything else with the actual device, the manufacturer warranty is not honored. If you think your problem would be covered under the warranty, you would have to contact the manufacturer, not Sprint.
Q: I'm paying $7 (soon $8) a month for insurance, why should I have to pay a deductible to get a replacement?
A: It works the same way as car insurance. If you damage your car, they don't just fix it or total it without a deductible. You're getting a "like new" device, for at least half (in terms of the Evo) of the original price. It doesn't matter what price you initially paid for it, you're not paying for a new one. Some times new ones do come, consider yourself lucky if so.
Q: Why does one store tell you one thing, then another store tell you another?
A: Every store is different. Each is bound by policy, called Methods & Procedues. However, there is some flexibility underneath that. Depending on the situation, it also may depend on who exactly you speak to in the store. From my experience, it happens most often with customer care/tech support and corporate retail locations. 3rd party dealers (preferred/co-branded/etc) have a lot stricter guidelines and therefore cannot operate with as much flexibility.
The one thing customers hate the most is the "run around" feeling. I cannot count the numerous times that a customer has called into Care to be told one thing, only to be told no in my store because we simply cannot do that. One good example is "Sure, just go into that store and they'll give you a brand new Evo out of the box". 1. Our store simply cannot do that, at all, period. 2. Care cannot see that the phone is clearly wet, but the expectation has been set that the customer is getting a brand new phone, so we get a bad score.
Again, this is just a FAQ to clear up any misconceptions. This is not pointed at anyone in general, I just hate when people spout off about things they don't understand.
Thanks for the info. This answered a few questions I had been wondering about.
totally, thank you very much

You are very lucky then as me and almost everybody I know or have read about got refurbs. Some appeared to have been taken in and then reissued without any repairs having been made. Let's hope your luck holds out.
I hope they ship an unopened, in box, hardware 004 model to me. I cracked the screen 10 ways to Sunday the day before yesterday, and I filed an Asurion claim. Funny thing is, I called and my early upgrade was successful, but after paying $100, I am asking myself, do I really want the EVO 3D? Maybe if I get $150 from the buyback program.......neh......who knows.

Thanks for the info... Makes me really wonder if it is worth it as you can get a used phone for $200 or so. So if on average you dont use this every year, just better to save the 7-8 a month and the 100 deductible and get a used one as seems you can just get a referb anyway.
ALWAYS treated good with the stores..
faithful customer for 13 years..
wi11ie
My Sprint store opened my phone and the charging port was clearly off the board. They told me I'd have to go through Asurion for a replacement.
Had to pay for screen repair 4 months in (sunspots) $35
My 3G borked 3 weeks ago and ordered a replacement $35.
The replacement came in (refurb) with the same sunspot in the same place (appx). Ordered another replacement, checked two days later, no order made....tech in store made another order, came in two days later with the same defect. Rep gave me a NIB 004 on the spot.
After paying $70 for repairs, I ended up ahead by $14 and a brand new phone for the trouble. Now if I had done something out of the normal 'repair' options, a different story all together on cost.

Not sure. The guy opened the phone and the port fell out. He didn't examine it, he just put the phone back together and said I'd have to go through my insurance. The guy didn't seem very helpful and was borderline rude, not the usual friendly sprint rep/tech. He didn't even look up my account info or anything. he just assumed I had insurance (which I do)
That was back in Alabama. I'm in Iowa now...do you think I should try the store here?

Like I said, warranty has nothing to do with it. Sure, Sprint will exchange the phone, but the $35 applies if you don't have insurance. Lost/stolen, liquid and physical damage aside.

Probably with Protect your bubble.
Think they quote £5.99/month.
Either that or go with whoever T-Mobile UK endorses depending on price.

Yeah i just checked PYB and its 5.99 and an extra £1 to also cover loss.
When i ordered my upgrade from t-mobile they offered me insurance for £10p/m and from what you said I'm guessing that would just be from a company they use. She also asked if i had insurance from elsewhere when i declined the offer so I'm guessing that means they could be willing to reduce their premium.
I'm guessing PYB is a reliable company to use though so might just go for that...

But it doesn't include loss or theft. Only covers damage. Looking at the terms, they will repair when possible, else will replace in store or next day if stock isn't available. Guess if you do break your phone, best hope it's broken beyond repair so it gets replaced rather than repaired!
I`m going direct with T-Mobile for insurance
It`s 10 quid per month but covers loss, theft and damage and also abroad! you can also backup your photos and contacts and they will send a new phone out within 24hr with the pics and contacts you backed up, seems pretty good to me!
I heard bad things about 3rd party insurance that they take ages to pay out so your left with no phone! just best to go direct with your provider
Guys, take a look at http://www.insureandgo.com/gadget-insurance.html cost me £62.50 for annual cover on an S3 and will be changing my policy to be the One as soon as their site stops failing. This is with 24 hour recovery, 'breakdown cover' and accidental damage

What about squaretrade warranty.

I've heard many horror stories about Insurance2go although my experience with them has been good. Damaged my Galaxy S2 screen when I dropped it and it hit the side of my table. All they asked for was proof I owned the phone and proof that the phone had been used to make calls or texts the day before the incident (to stop fraud). I had the lite cover which excludes loss (the terms for loss are simply foolish). Everything went smoothly. Most phones companies insurance is off the charts, the positive is that a lot of them guarantee you a new phone within 48 hours
Thats what you pay for really isn't it!
Just thinking about O2 insurance, its £245 over two years! which if i have no issues with is a massive waste.
