Camera Replacement - Desire HD General

Hey people,
Last night I accidentally dropped my DHD and unfortunately it landed on the camera. The camera glass is now broken and the grommet is dented also.
Does anyone know if there are replacements for this part yet? I'm in Australia so an online parts shop would be perfect...
Thanks for the help!

After further investigation it seems to be attached to the entire back plate.

i say contact HTC directly

Make a claim on your phone insurance.
You do have phone insurance, dont you? I'm sure no one on XDA forums are foolish enough to invest in a £500 device and not have the safety net of insurance for when we inevitably drop it and smash it into smithereens.

I have never had phone insurance but I have never dropped and damaged any if my prior phones roughly how much is phone insurance ?, I was unaware of such a thing mine us just included in home insurance but that probably wouldn't include drop damage

Can you quote the part of the HTC warranty conditions where it says that they will happily replace components that got destroyed by "improper handling, such as dropping the phone on the floor very hard"?
I'd be really thrilled to read it.
Only thing I agree with is contacting HTC is the best bet at the moment, i am sure they will offer a repair for that damage, although they will charge quite a bit for it

http://www.htc.com/www/support/warranty.html
Click where your are i clicked wester Europe and Page 3 please read

HTC does not cover this sort of damage.
The warranty only covers manufacturing faults.
Check home insurance, it probably covers accidental damage to items in the home and may cover the phone if one item limit is high enough.

Oh unlucky m8 guess you will have to cough up cash to repair the phone

The chances are the camera still works, and it is just the lens cover that you have broken.
Look for a dummy camera, such as
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-HTC...976?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item255f090e60
Look on Android forum that shows how to replace.
http://androidforums.com/incredible...cover-replacement-straightening-red-ring.html
Hope this helps.

Yeah, was just unlucky I guess.
Lucky enough where the crack is on the camera lens it doesn't actually show on photos.
Will contact HTC to see.
Cheers for the help!

Cracked screen returns advice

I've cracked my screen
Went go-karting today and got thrown around so much in the kart that the screen cracked.
So, what's the best way about getting it repaired?
Can I just send it straight back to HTC UK and get the screen replaced under warranty? My phone is rooted, but not unlocked.
I have not returned a phone yet, but as many have stated, "it does not void your warranty to root, only to unlock the bootloader" so in theory you should just be able to send it in.
.....except that warranty won't cover a cracked screen.. I think the going rate was $280?
are you insured through assurion?
You broke it, you buy it.

I dropped my N1 on the floor in my house (stone floors) two weeks ago and cracked the glass screen.. picked up a new glass screen on ebay for $38 shipped and spent about two hours replacing it myself.. turned out perfect.. just be very patient and take your time during the replacement process.
This is the damage, I don't think the glass is broken so is it just the LCD screen beneath that I'll need to replace?

No, it's the digitizer/screen. The display would be a lot more expensive to replace.
Hi mate.. if the amoled still works you are fine yiu would just need a new digitalizer, about £20 from ebay and fix it youself.. if the amolded wkrks you need a new lcd, £45 from ebay.. i nroke my amoled, fixed it and now works.. good luck!!

If that's the case, then why when I power it on does nothing appear?
It vibrates when booting so I know its working?
when i dropped my nexus one, the amoled broke, not the outer screen/digitizer. i believe the cost for a new amoled was around $85 plus shipping and it would also cost your warranty. therefore, i sent it back in for repair and it cost $115 total, warranty still intact. btw, i opted for a refurb unit instead of waiting for them to return my damaged unit.
good luck, you have to decide if its worth voiding your warranty to fix it yourself.

Sorry I missed that part.. Yeah if it's not showing anything the display has problems, although I find it odd it would break but not the digitizer.

It is gonna be high! You wille get 3 options..1) fix the phone for a very high price 2) get the phone and pay around $40 for the labour and delivery 3) dispose of the phone for free by htc.. so pretty much re use the parts for another phone..
Not a sencible choice calling htc in my opinion

Having searched the internets I've found reports of people having it fixed by HTC UK for between £60 - £100
Also, I was told if I didn't want them to carry out the work there would be a £20 fee to return the phone to cover postage and the engineers time.
I think you're estimates are way off, however, I'm going to wait until I get my quote or I'll be eating my words...

You have properly screwed the screen and you seem ok with it
Wish I could be as relaxed as that haha.
Hey buddy i had the same issue with my desire.. cracked in a similar way, HTC quoted me £238 for screen, housing, new logic board & labour.. even asked them just to replaced the screen cos i did see anything wrong with the housing but they said they couldn't do it cos motherboard had been bent..
so just got a replacement lcd from ebay at £45, took 45mins to fit the new screen everything working correctly
oh and the logic board wasn't bent! cheeky HTC

cracked evo screen! ha

dropped my phone from like 3 feet and this is what happened. luckily there is a place here in sac that can replace the glass for $100. i called in and they have the part. hopefully its legit.
saw the same thing happen last night. Kid told me today that sprint insurance doesn't cover screens anymore. Said they won't even look at an EVO if the screen is cracked. Is that true?
The Sprint store here doesn't cover glass screens. Best Buy has their insurance policy and they will cover cracked screens though. My friend just dropped his Evo and it cracked the screen, when he had someone repair it they accidentally punctured the LCD with a piece of the broken glass. He now has a fairly dead Evo, but the guy is willing to replace the parts next week when he gets them in.
It honestly is very easy to repair the digitizer and the LCD screen (Depending on which one you need).
I knew fairly nothing about the phone, I did a little research and bought the "Type 1" LCD screen for the HTC Evo. The connector was too small so I did more searching, I eventually found the right screen at GlobalPartsDirect. (Search google).
It has the Wide Connector that you'll need if you have one of the HDW004/3. I personally would open up the back of the phone and check the connector myself, If i were you.
It's an easy fix, only question, do you have the money to buy two from globalpartsdirect (They only ship in multiples). Then you're golden, plus, you'll have an extra LCD screen to repair your phone if it happens again.

TEP no longer covers cracks over an inch in length. A small crack can get replaced because it is covered under normal wear.

No, they won't even look at it. I was told exactly that by the rep of the repair center I went to. "We are not allowed to even touch the phone if the glass is cracked." They will not fix it. I even offered to buy the parts myself and pay for the labor, and that is when I was told they can't even look/touch it.

Well, it's total equipment protection in the same sense that a bumper-to-bumper warranty covers your car. If your car's engine takes a crap on you and your car is under warranty, they will fix it. However, if there is a rock on the road and you go over it with your car and crack the oil pan, all the oil leaks out and then your engine gets seized, you wouldn't really take it to the dealer for a warranty repair, would you?
In that case, you would call your car insurance company which is where Asurion comes in.
Gravity is not Sprint's fault. However, I think they should fix the phone if you are willing to pay for it instead of having to find some 3rd party electronics repair shop to do it. If they did, then maybe people wouldn't be committing insurance fraud like DirtyShroomz mentioned.
See, if I drop my phone now again and I call Asurion, they will replace it and then refuse to give me coverage until a year passes by, since you're only allowed two claims per year. If Sprint would have fixed my phone for $100, I would have given them the $100 instead of Asurion and saved the claim for the day I lose it or damage it beyond repair. I think Sprint is actually losing revenue by turning away repair jobs from phones that fall under the "physical damage" category.
Correct, Sprint's coverage has never been accidental. They used to occasionally cover drops, but spills and water damage have always been out of the question. It's the reason I buy my phones at Best Buy. I don't have to wait for a rebate, and I can get 100% accidental (full submersion included) protection on my phone, with a loaner phone if it needs to be sent out. It's 10 bucks a month, but compared to a new phone it's not bad.
That being said, I don't have it on my Evo as I know how to change out LCD panels now.
Assurion covers it.
I called in Friday about a broken screen(the entire piece of glass was shattered) and I got my brand spankin new Evo on Monday
That screen replacement deal was good while it lasted. Had my TP2 screen replaced under TEP before selling ur on here. Well, actually they ordered me a whole other phone, as they had no screens in stock. Too bad they are so whack about it now.
I've seen official policy posted before. It's anything over an inch is not supposed to be repaired. But what the hell is the difference? 1" vs shattered screen, you still replace the same pieces right?

Cracked mine a couple weeks ago, called insurance and next day had a brand new 004 not a refurb. I was very happy with that. Also they shiped me a battery ,charger and 8gb memory card but just wanted my phone back in return. Not a bad deal .

I don't know if you are in the UK but if you are then many bank accounts give free insurance for phones, etc.that option might be there in other countries too.but you need the right type of bank account for that.my bank account gives me free travel insurance, break down cover for my car and phone insurance among other things.a lot cheaper than getting these separately.

I dropped min today from 20cm height and first 5 minutes later it cracked in 2 pieces so I feel your pain. I checked what the spare part costs, and it was 285 euro's for the AMOLED+Glass apparently it is glued together so everything has to be replaced, and then you need to add the work costs. So it probably will be cheaper to buy a used one and sell yours for parts
Just broke my screen the other day. Getting out of my car, note was between me and car door. Didnt end well. 250 for lcd combo on ebay.

No, this is wrong. Manufacturers lie about only way to replace glass+display. I broke the Galaxy S screen, and at samsung service they told me to replace everything, and that I have no chance to replace only screen. But I decided to try replace it by my self. I buy glass for Galaxy S on ebay for 9$. Then, using guitar pick I removed shards of glass. Then pasted on the sides of the glass with glue. And that's it! Fits perfectly. Works even better than before.
Yeah I need to upgrade current account to get it...don't have a problem doing it but was just unsure how long it will be before I can claim. But I also thought it might take longer to get it repaired than going for a mobile phone specialist insurer...also with the bank insurance..I know a while back my brother claimed and they didn't even ask for his old phone that was easily repaired!
Also just like to add...I really didn't apply that much pressure to the screen been, nursing this baby. So be careful. Wouldn't wish it on anyone to go through the pain I am.

Getting and claiming phone insurance after your phone is broken is fraud!
Either insure your phone beforehand, or deal with the consequences of not doing so, but don't break the law, and put the premiums up for people who had more foresight than you!

I think also like you !!!
;-)
I would strongly suggest you did not claim for it after the event as this is a criminal offence.
You may however, wish to check if your household (contents) insurance covers such damage and/or if your credit card covers accidental damage if you used it.

You can go to most shops and get your Galaxy S fixed for 90-100 euro where they only switch the glass but with the Note you can't find anyone, only to replace the whole thing. I have an insurance but was not sure if I was going to use it because it is my 2 device in 1 year that went busted. But it is painful to be remembered every time I turn it on so I will find out what the costs is going to be and use my insurance. I guess not using the insurance when you have it is to commit fraud

Just dropped my S III

Had the phone on my lap on some concrete stairs, got up and it flew down 3-4 steps. I'm so freaking pissed off now! The phone has some pretty nasty chips on the sides and a nice one on the back battery door.
Is there any chance I could somehow replace it with a new one from AT&T? Possibly buy insurance over the phone and exchange it for a new model? Man this sucks. :crying:

At&t insurance specifically covers "accidental physical or liquid damage and lost or stolen"

You're SOL bro, its a 199 deductible cuz the S3 is a tier 3 phone according to their insurance if it is covered, and you won't be gettin an S3 back as the replacement since the phone just came out...ATT doesnt take care of the insurance claims its handled by a 3rd party that you can bet doesnt have the S3; the insurance company will replace your phone with whatever comprable phone they have at the time you make your claim if they don't have your specific phone available, you could add Square Trade but its 69.99 for 1 year and its a 50 dollar accidental dmg deductible I believe..besides that your only option currently and the by far the least expensive get a TPU case that covers the whole phone. lastly you could wait a few weeks and buy a new housing for the phone off ebay along with a new battery cover that should cost 30-80 bux...let this be a lesson to those who say I will never get a case...accidents happen at anytime.

I see this so many times. I don't know why people carry a smartphone without any case to protect it and get “pissed" when it falls and gets damaged. Thats what happens when a phone falls on the ground without protection. It either breaks or gets scratched/damaged.

I never bought insurance, case, or skin protector for my captivate. I dropped it a few times on concrete, carpet, hard floors... it has tiny scratches on its side and still works. Getting the phone in and out of your pocket is much easier without a case; although, I don't think I'd be as much of a risk taker with my GS3 as it looks much more delicate!

in saying that a i9300 housing is probably different internally, look for a i747 housing, might be a week or so before one pops up on ebay though

That's just the front cover and home button. If possible I need the band around the phone and the battery door. The front of my phone is fine.

:crying:

I love that a lot of the posts are telling OP to commit fraud. You didn't have insurance, you damaged your phone, you are responsible. Don't go buy insurance, pretend like nothing is wrong, then some days later make a claim. Own up to your mistake, and take the hit, instead of making everyone else paying for insurance cover your mistake. Go buy a case, fix your phone, and buy insurance if you're still worried you might break it again.
This is one of many reasons insurance (not just for phones) is so high.

A typical company wouldn't hesitate to backstab customers if it means higher profits. These companies (AT&T, Verizon, insurance companies etc) charge so much for their services that it's truly unfair to the consumer. Have you seen Verizon's new Internet prices? Truly insane. I'd rather look out for myself than a company's best interest.

Water damage phone, replace screen for £150 worthwhile

After dropped my new Note 3 into toilet, I dried it using traditional rice method. While after 3 days the phone was able to switch on, the screen did not work properly.
So I brought it into a Samsung designated repair shop, those guys disassembled the phone for inspection, then told me that the damage to mainboard is not as bad as it would be, but the screen is messed up so I would need a replacement screen for £150(roughtly $250).
I have been keep hearing that water damage is non-repairable because the corrosion is progressive, and while you and fix one part, other parts likely to go off after a few months one by one. And if this is true, I seriously doubt if I should pay £150 to replace that screen, maybe a better option is to pay £280 for a new galaxy not 2, £300 for a Nexus 5/LG G2
What do you guys think?

Hi,
if warranty is still valid after it - it's worth to pay, IMHO.

No, it doesn't.
I bought this phone during my trip to HK, the phone is genuine new phone, but doesn't come with warranty.
I am hoping that the repairer would give me some guarantee, but this is still under negotiation.
Nexus 5 is only 240£ at carphone warehouse sim free.
Bargain.

Dropped them to £240 on Monday
Talk to the repair company again, they offer no guarantee once the phone leaves the shop??!! And they say, the phone might work in shop and might stop work out of the shop, but that's not their concern. All they can do is to take £150 and replace the screen, and wish me good luck??!!
I don't like the attitude, but as much as I hate to admit, water damage is probably non-repairable and to get it back working is probably just a wishful thinking.
Pure water by itself won't do any damage to the phone, it's the impurities that cause the issues, from mineral deposits left behind to actual short circuit. If it was salt water damage (dip in the ocean for example) I wouldn't even bother, but with fresh water it's more of a gamble, since it's impossible to say what deposits are left behind where, like chlorine for example. As far as repair shop goes, I don't blame them at all. They only charge you for screen replacement, why would they warrant the whole phone? The phone could fail in the future for reason totally unrelated to the issues you have now and they would still be on the hook? I think they should only warrant screen, the part they actually worked on. It's a gamble and only you can decide, but you already gambled by buying the phone without warranty nor insurance and see how that came out, so maybe you're not lucky enough to be a gambler?

This is my second phone in 6 months, previous one was a Note 2, which was stolen.
So lucky wise, I am afraid I donnot have much atm.
Ouch, really sorry to hear that. Whole screen with digitizer and frame costs about $235 in US, so 150 quids with labor does not seem expensive, considering.
If it was me, I'd bite the bullet and buy a new phone. It's a HK phone as well as probably giving problems later on due to the corrosion issue. HK phones are a bit of a pain when going for custom ROM/Recovery or kernels so adding that to the issues of possible unreliability and you've got a problem.
Maybe ask the repairs people what they would give you for it for spare parts?
