hey
i installed finger keyboard
and it really is very nice
but sometimes i have a problem with
sometimes when i want to write a message or bring up the keyboard to scroll with the direction it doesn't appear and seems to be stuck
and then i have to rebbot the phone for it to work
any thoughts , solutions ?
Hello,
If you are having this problem in particular when you are writing SMS then it might well be linked to the SMS problem already talked about exhaustively on here. There is a partial solution for this in the Hints & Tips thread.
If it's not that then it might just be worth your while reinstalling finger keyboard and see if that helps. Another alternative might be to install the Swype keyboard (works well on my device) and see if that solves the problem.
Work through this step by step and see if any of the suggestions help.
Cheers
WB
well it's not just in the SMS
it also happened in the file browser when i wanted to scroll down with keyboard keys
i did reinstall it , so it seems it didn't help
as for the swipe keyboard
that's a problem since i need hebrew in my keyboard
btw an unrelated question
i saw in the tips thread that many times you need to change the registry keys
how do i do that in this device ?
thanks
I had problems typing the good letters on the keyboard. Always a bit out of line it seemd. Then i Aligned my screen again, and now its working much better. Maybe give it a try, it improved my typingspeed.

How do you align your screen?
Also, I keep reading threads about different keyboards, is that just down to personal preference or do some really work better than others? I've not had a problem with the one that's already on the HD2 to be honest,
Look here
settingstab, then push menu , extra`s(more), system, screen.
There you can align your screen by pushing 5 positions on your screen

i don't actually have problems with the typing part
i'll try to explain
when you go to the sms section or filer browser you can see the finger keyboard logo in middle-bottom of the screen
and if you want to use it , you press that logo\button and the keyboard comes up
well sometimes no matter how much time you press ( or where )
it doesn't come up
Ok , a different problem.
A litle thing i sometimes try.
Because the screen is capacitive, when i don`t get a knob to work i wet my finger a litle bit. My skin is normaly dry. When it is "wetter" is seems to react better.
There is a thread about the keyboards sensitivity that could solve that issue.
After BSBTweaks 1.6 i don`t have problems.
With sms install the latest htc patch, it speeds up things in sms, where it looks the screen doesnt react but`it was the progres in the background stil runnning...
Just try, doesn`t cos anything

Not that one.
I've got a different one, that's, when switching to the second language, the vertical space between rows increases, and the half bottom part of the lower character row dissapears. Using Eng and Spa.
It's just me?
Regards.

Hmz....peculiar problem... I ain't got it like this, but i got some other quirk that seems very close to this: every now and then when i want to single-tap an item to start it (in explorer for instance), the rotating dots show and a context menu opens (like tap-and-hold)... It even happens when i use hardwarekey (ie press enter) to activate item; it still reacts like tap-and-hold
Only every now and then though...
I guess the official ROM update takes so long because of the extensive bug-list they'll have to fix
This second problem seems more like a hardware problem with the way the screen reacts to stylus taps.
Here the solution, from an italian forum: http://www.solopalmari.com/smf/index.php/topic,14373.msg64849.html#msg64849

Quick translation of those pictures into english: the build quality of this device is awful so there will be more and more "weaknesses" discovered through normal "wear and tear", such as paint problems, screen problems, button problems, etc.
Hello,
I currently use the phone keypad to type my messages, and sometimes after some words, when I press space it doesnt actually do a space. any ideas on what this could be, its really annoying when I look back and theres loads of words that are stuck together!
Thanks in advance.
Yes, I have a same problem, is there any solution for this?
Anybody help? Its really annoying
glad its not just me, i tryed turning off T9 etc.. but still does it
Yeah here also with a NLD rom. I need to push the spacebar somethings 2 times if I want a space in my text message.
I hope htc will fix it
Same problem here, I thought it was me not pushing it right
did you calibrate your screen?
before I calibrated my screen, I felt I have to skew my taps a bit (maybe its also an illusion with the glass touch screen's thickness when the actual image is behind 1-2 mm of glass) to touch the right keys. after calibration it seems better.
I find what is problem. When a tiny line is under letters, when i push space and then another letter, cursor go back. I don't know how to turn off this option and what is it for. Does anyone have solution? t9 is off in mu case and i use phone keypad.

you are right, the cursor does go back but im not sure how to stop it.
It is driving me insane because it takes me a long time to type a message now
its unusual that more people are not reporting this issue, is it a problem just with our devices, or maybe others are not concerned by this or unaware
Im having the same problem. When I had another ROM installed the keyboard had a bigger spacebar, but I went back to manila 2.1 and now it has the smaller one again...
Isnt there a way to alter the size of the spacebar in manila 2.1?
This is a common issue with XT9.
I suggest trying a different SIP and disabling all other settings other than ABC mode.
If you find that it's really difficult to type using the hd2 - I advise you Align the screen.
The device doesn't make you do this when you first boot it but I found it solved my problem.
go to....
settings >> menu >> all settings >> system >> screen
I advise you not to use a stylus to do this but your finger - may be a bit tricky but if you can touch the crosses accurately enough with your finger you will find this benefits you when using everything.
I also turned on ClearType as I always had that on and default is off.
hope it's not been mentioned already.

Thats really good to know. A lot of people said that with capacitive screens you don't align them but with my Hero I had to.
Very very good news, thanks for this
I think it has a lot to do with the keyboard manager.
I've tried HTC's, Resco's and SPB's keyboard, and SPB is by far the best for fingers, since it does not change letters after you type them, and it even allows full-screen keyboard when you need to type a lot of complicated symbols.
Resco's is too small and makes it hard to type symbols besides letters; HTC's is overly predictive and corrective to the detriment of productivity. SPB just works.
Wow!!! What a diference. You barely even need the predictive keyboard after aligning the screen.
good to know for when it arrives, thanks!
im pretty sure I posted this, but im dead tired, so since im here...
anyone tried this keyboard, http://www.mobiletextinput.com/about.php
yeah someone who had a HD2 before me told me they had to hard reset after trying align..
so I tested it earlier (just to see) and of course it works fine.. typing is now a joy rather than a bear to use !

hard reset would just clear away the setting causing you to do a new alignment, back and fort
think you mean soft reset?

I know EXACTLY what I meant, thank you very much!
the guy who tried the screen align could no longer use the screen, so resorted to a hard reset to get rid of it.
I'm wondering what they did wrong to cause it not to work...

After posting above I did run into some trouble in landscape mode. However, a soft reset got everything working perfectly.
After using resistive screen we need to remember to raise fingers that little bit further when typing. I'm beginning to type pretty fast now without mistakes.
So are people definately finding improvements in accuracy of typing when using aligning feature or is it best to leave it alone?

problems with typing
I did align the screen and turned on the cleartype.
After doing that it was just a tad better than it was before.
And it was a nightmare !!
But i tried to turn cleartype OFF.
And it is alot better now !!
Does anyone find it annoying how sentences don't actually automatically capitalise after using a full stop?
I have 'auto capitalise new sentence' option ticked under input settings too. Oddly, it auto capitalises after the use of '!' and '?' but just not a full stop...
I too am finding this keyboard hard to use. Sometimes impossible. I have aligned the screen and am trying to be as gentle as possible. In fact I find u don’t even have to touch it to set it off. Just hover your finger above the screen. And even hovering your finger above it can cause it to go mad and press every button in sight.
Sometimes if I press backspace repeatedly, it will press m, n, b, and v buttons too for me. I mean that’s about a finger and a half away from where I’m touching.
I have tried using the keypad as the buttons are bigger and again here I find if I press 7 (pqrs) it can press the one button too, and u can see it twitching all of the place when u hold. I held the power button to get the shutdown/lock options screen up, and without even touching the screen it selected silent. I’m finding it very very frustrating. I have been used to using the iPhone 3GS for few months, which I hate, but so far the screen is miles better.
I even opened notepad and drew some lines and on some swipes u can see instead of producing a smooth line it jaggers all over the place. To me it seems over sensitive/broken, but from what others say is this correct? The touch HD input was better than this. But I have no problems using the phone elsewhere than the keyboard.
The phone is great but currently I’m hugely disappointed with the screen. And so its letting the whole unit down.
Am i being useless or does my unit sounds bust?

My HTC Hero does this also, which is quite annoying!
Ok, when the Touch HD was out there was a program which allowed you to increase the sensitivity of the screen, think it was HD Tweak. This improved the sensitivity of the screen quite well.
Maybe there is a registry tweak we can do to turn down the sensitivity of the screen to help out?
Has anyone informed HTC about this yet?
I found typing accuracy slightly worse after running the alignment process which is weird.
The problem is, we're blazing a trail with the HD2 as there are currently no other winmo devices with a capacitive screen. The HTC full qwerty doesn't seem to be ideally suited to capacitive - the keys register presses far too readily and sometimes, as your finger is lifted from the screen, it's very easy to register a press in an adjacent button.
After a couple of days using it, it seems accuracy and a light touch are the order of the day - until HTC (or another enterprising software house) release a keyboard that's actually tailored to the Leo
Is this setting is what need to be changed for changing the sensitivity?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE\Touch\Filter]

Tried set it to 1,10,100 and did not notice anything. But would love to find something like that.
I'm trying to understand why during sms or email typing I do a lot of typing errors. I saw that so many times I touch the keys on the on screen keyboard in the right place but I release it in the wrong one. So I can see there is a little movement of my hand and thinger that causes keyboard misunderstanding.
I tried a lot of tweaks but what I wantto try now is the possibility to configure the oem htc on screen keyboard to accept keys on press and not on release.
Can anyone help me finding registry tweaks about?
thank you!

It needs to accept on release because a long press has a different effect to a short one.
I know what you're saying, and I sympathize. I had problems at first, but I simply changed my typing style to suit the screen and now I'm very fast, and only make as many mistakes as I would on a real keyboard. Just get used to hitting the keyboard and lifting your finger, without moving it on the screen. It works - you just have to get used to it. It doesn't take long

Yes I know this. But testing can be a good starting point.
I can also imagine that a "new keyboard" can accept keyboard on press and change pressed keys if I don't move my finger for a long time. If I don't remember bad I already saw a keyboard that works in this way... if I press a key it writes the key, then if I don't remove the finger from that key it changes the pressed key with the additional one.
So, there is not any way to change working way?
I think the thing is that if you can't get used to the HTC keyboard, just use another SIP if a good one is available, or wait until someone makes a new one...
The one in opera mini beta 5 seems good, would be great ig they could make a similar one system-wide...

I used FingerKeyboard a lot with Blackstone but with Leo I don't like it so much... I prefer to have bigger keys and HTC sense integration with the original keyboard.
The problem to change keyboard is also this one.. you can loose some integrations.
So all of you can confirm me that original keyboard is not modificable? So there are not registry configurations?
is there any help for my request?
Hit instead of release !
I do agree with you. I have tried the keyboard on the iPhone a lot, and I don't think anyone would disagree that it is much better. And the only difference is like you say that the iPhone registers where you hit the screen, instead of where you release the screen. Fast typing means you have to move your finger sideways all the time. Can it be so hard to make a keyboard that registers hit instead of release ?
Have tried several keyboards to the LEO, including Fingerkeyoard, but they all seem to have the same problem when used on the LEO.
It's a shame since the rest of the phone is genious. Let us hope someone who is capable of modifying or rewrite a complete keyboard take the challenge.
I'm asking this just from when I was using Blackstone but it seems that developers don't like to make keyboard sensible to press and not release.

this arrow icon (near the keyboard once) is really hard to press,
although the main problem is when you press it, it takes 3-4 seconds to open the sip menu!!
i really need to get rid of this horrible delay, as i use this button very often to change languages.
so, is there a tweak or a replacement like long press the keyboard icon?
i dont wanna install external keyboard cus i hate them....
so, registry change or something would be nice.

Hey
to sort the delay look in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT find CLSID reg/folder export it to my documents or sd card (doesnt matter where) then import it back & soft reset.
as for the arrow i find it helps to press just slightly to the right of the arrow instead of aiming directly for it.
hope it helps.
wow the solution makes no sense but it worked like a charm.
i would be glad to know what caused the problem and etc..

Sorry, no idea on the cause of the problem, its just a tip i remember from a few years back on my old tytn, i did notice the delay would happen mostly after installing/ trying new keyboards.
