AGPS Hotfix - HD2 General

In Hong Kong I can see a new AGPS hotfix at
http://www.htc.com/hk-en/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=845&news_id=469
When I installed it, my local weather information up-date started to lag and the moon icon would show in the daytime although the weather forecast and time were correct. When I restored from Sprite Backup, the computer settings would no longer restore. I had to hard reset and then do the restore, which worked.
So you may want to be very cautious about installing this one. Never found out what it does, anyway.

Hide/Prevent changes to the phone?

Hi
I am an administrator of a couple of phones that "ordinary" people uses. Some of these people just can't leave settings alone, installes his own application and then comes down and complain about the phone not working. I've had it.
Is there any way to lock down the hermes so that he just can read settings, transfer his activesync info and change that but not changing ANYTHING that is system related??
any product free or charged doesn't really matter, just curios to know if any software like that exists.
This looks like it might do what you're after:

My best advice would be to install a backup application such as SPB Backup, complte your desired settings and then take a backup. Later when the person returns with junked device, hard-reset and restore the previously taken backup! That should be easy right?

I have actually tried that, but it doesn't quite do it. It doesn't always restore everything and so on...it is almost more work restoring than reinstall everything again!
The kiosk application might be what I am looking for

Automatic weather update on ActiveSync

Hi chiefs,
I am trying to develop a small utility which will run when device is connected with activesync and update the forecast info in weather tab. Updating the database works ok but I have some other problems that someone may help.
When you run the application it updates the database file forecast_cache.db but weather tab does not get refreshed. It still shows the old values, however when you reset the device or restart TF3D (by removing from Today and re-adding it) weather tab shows the new values updated by my utility.
Does anyone can suggest some way to make the weather tab refresh itself ?
Hi Ozkarah,
Nice work...!
Just guessing, but maybe the Weather tab does not read the database every time it is opened, and only does it on a refresh/update
Have you tried selecting update from the Weather tab after you have updated the database, but then disconnected from any data connection.
eg.
1. Use utility to update database
2. Disconnect from data connection
3. Hit Update on the weather tab to see if it picks up the data.
Just a thought...
Cheers
I know mine updates when ever I go to the weather tab, it starts the update automatically.

Yep, they all do that (standard setting), but that particular setting is a data hog, and is annoyning if you're not connected to any data caonnection...
ozkarah's trying to do something else like a daily update...
I gather you're in the US where you can get unlimited data contracts - where I'm from the setting you're talking about is an expensive one.
Cheers
any ideas from chiefs?
did you have any luck with my suggestion...?
Seems like a good feature to have, ozkarah.
I for one have a 5GB/month plan, so a periodic weather update which costs a few KB of data is what I would be very happy with, regardless of active connection (wireless or physical via ActiveSync).
I'm on HTC TP by the way.
unfortunately not. this was one of the first things I had tried. I only could manage it by restarting TF3D (removing and adding TF3D to Today itmes) or soft reset the device...

Hi Ozkara,
I m updating my htc over night by addintimer ( gps, Podcast) and afterwards i reset it. So your little tool seems to be helpful for me to get the actual weater data. I couldn t accomplish to download the data with mortscript.
Is there any chance to get your too ?
Hi, im unable to update the weather via the internet connection.. Y is it so?
It will only be able to update when it download datas via phone line.. Its charging me crazy.. Any1 can help? Thx
I put the attached mortscript together to automatically update manila weather and stocks when I activesync. I use PhoneAlarm to detect the activesync connection and automatically execute this script. Unfortunatley it won't work if the screen is locked (such as through S2U2).
I wish there was a way truly update the weather and the stocks in the background as suggested by the OP.
I got tired of having to update manually, and installed SPB Mobile Shell - gotta say it's worth a look... it certainly isn't perfect, and there are definitely areas where TF3D is superior and vice versa...
All that being said - I prefer Mobile Shell - it's slightly more completed than TF3D

I have been looking for this for a long time. Thanks Rumball ! I think with this I can finally update weather via mortscript whenever PhoneAlarm switches profile at a specific time. Will try it out on my HD2.

Cannot Start Sprite Backup!

I am a paid registered user of the best backup program for WM, Sprite Backup.
I installed the latest version on my HD2. It installed fine.
But every time I try to run it, I get an error message--" a problem has occurred with sprite backup.exe"
Happens every time, even right after rebooting, with nothing else running.
(One time I made the mistake of clicking the "Send" button to report the mistake to Microsoft, and there was a never-ending hourglass, finally had to reboot. )
Has anyone here used Sprite Backup with the HD2?
Consider yourself lucky and use this chance to seek other backup applications. After using this program, and having it tell me my Daily backups were done properly, I tried a restore and found it could not read it's own data file, and the remote backups never took place.
So I am basically fuxored...
Thank you Sprite Mobile.
My email to tech support has gone unanswered, nor do I expect them to answer me. I pretty much just want a refund.

I agree completely. I purchased Sprite Backup a couple of months ago, having read reviews that praised it. Was already using Microsoft MyPhone to backup some stuff, but wanted a more complete solution (eg., ability to backup installed applications).
Backed up religiously (to PC and to phone's storage card), no errors reported while doing so. Tried three weeks ago to restore a backup file, received message saying something like "device doesn't recognize certificates". No phone number available to call Sprite, so I sent email to their "24/7 HelpDesk." That was my first rude awakening, because it took them five days to reply. We then went back and forth for a week. No resolution, was told in a final email that I should try reinstalling the program and that, other than that, there was nothing they would or could do. I'm investigating SPB Backup and other options -- whoever I choose next will be in the U.S., and they will at least have a phone number so I can talk to human! But you can bet that everyone I know with a Windows mobile phone is now aware that Sprite isn't a viable option.....

I'm not sure I agree with you.
I have used Sprite with several other WinMo phones, with no problems. I have only had a problem with the HD2.
I'm surprised you were even able to backup. I could not start the app at all. The only way I was finally able to backup, was to close the Sense UI, and reboot (without Sense). Haven't tried restoring yet on the HD2.
HD2 seems to have a lot of compatibility problems. Today I installed Sk Tools as well, newest version, which I have also paid for. Like Sprite, it installed fine, but will not start up correctly at all!

I hear your point, and I can't argue that the HD2 can be a compatibility-problem magnet. What I did after first experiencing my problem (and during that period where I was waiting for Sprite to respond to my first email to their HelpDesk) was Google the web for a solution to the certificate problem. During that search, I saw a bunch of complaints of the same problem for quite a number of other phones (some HTC, some not), and a consistent theme was that Sprite Support was essentially ignoring them. That fact is what bothers me most.
Also, if I were you, the only way I'd trust that backup that you finally got to work is by successfully restoring it on your device. I typically maintained at least two separate (one for Mondays, one for Fridays) backup files, which the program always characterized as "Backup completely successfully!". However, none of these would Restore.

Just to point out to you, that SPB software compan is not located in the US, but in Russia. (I don't know why, but much mobile software seems to originate in Russia. I think SK software (as in SK Tools) and Resco are also in Russia, others as well.)
Quite unfortunately, reaching a human being in the US (or anywhere) on the telephone, who is actually familiar with a product, and can actually help you, is an extreme rarity these days for any product, hard or soft. "Tech support" for most companies has become a pitiful joke.
----------
By the way, an update on my OP.
I reported that I was not able to start Sprite Backup on the HD, after having successfully installed it.
After removing Sense, and booting into plain Windows Mobile, I was able to start it and do a backup.
Since then, I have reinstalled Sense, and since then, Sprite could do a backup with Sense running as well.
However, nervous from reading reports here that Restore didn't work, although I didn't need a restore, I decided I'd better try restoring. (For if Restore wouldn't work, the backups would be useless.)
So, right after doing a full backup of everything (excluding the storage card, of course), to the storage card, I did a restore of that backup. I didn't do it by starting the Sprite application, but by clicking directly on the .exe file created by the backup. It took a while to start up, and I was getting nervous, after having read the reports here.
But then it did start up, and now the restore is completed, and looks like it went fine.
So, I'll keep using the app.
(I once used the SPB backup app though, years ago. Also a good app, and not as expensive. Not as many options though.)
Glad that things worked out for you. Thanks for the update.
I've never had problems with sprite backup. Ok, I think once, it wouldn't restore. But for the most part it has worked. I have never had problems restoring either.
If I had to go back and order again I would probably use spb backup since so many others recommend it, but I've been using sprite for about 2 years.
You can always try Lookout mobile. Its a security/anti-malware program that also offers data backup. Had it since a week or two after I got my HD2, everythings been great. But on stock ROM it may freeze. Did the first time I installed so I didnt try again until I got a new ROM. Been perfect ever since.

[Q] GS4 Multi Window don't work.

At&t GS4 32GB version.
Multi Window not working.
It is checked (lit up green) in the setting (notifications area).
DID a long press of the back button.
Rebooted.
Tried everything, it don't work.
Could root have broken it?
Titanium Backup Broke it?
All I did was root my device to be able to use Titanium backup to restore all ym data from my GS3.
That data was...
My call log, SMS / MMS History.
A few Games and the data from them.
Wifi Settings
Call History.
That was it.
Andorid 4.2.2 that came with the phone.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Restoring that type of system data can cause many odd issues. This why it is never advised to restore any system data at all. Only user apps
W.T Nexus 4
Is there a better way to restore call logs, MMS/SMS messages, contacts and all the WIFI hotspots (passwords) I have saved?
That stuff is pretty important to me. I use the phone for business so to have every SMS message is super important. My call logs are important an d obviously my contacts are important. The few games I play on a regular basis are important too (but there are only 3 of them).
Can something like restoring that kind of data KILL multi window?
Contacts are backed up with your google account so those are not a worry. There are a few sms backup programs out there that when restored work properly but non that do mms that I remember. Your games are fine as that is user data and nothing system related. The call logs can be backed up with some 3rd party apps as well. As for the Wi-Fi spots I don't know of any that backup those. Yes it could cause these issues as each device and OS version can handle how these are stored very differently.

Possible solution to getting multi window working?
Your not gonna like the sound of this but most likely a factory reset and start from scratch. Make sure it is working and then go from there.

First of all, as far as I can remember all Call history, SMS/MMS and Wifi Settings, can be passed to the S4 via Kies, if I'm wrong, then just use the Samsung Smart Switcher, you can get this from the Samsung Apps, or at least in my case, inside the S4 box there were some instructions and a URL to go to do this. http://www.samsungsmartswitch.com
Second, once you get any annoying error on your phone, you don't have to many options to fix it, other than going the factory route, but for your information, if you use ODIN and the OEM Factory Rom that is on this site, you will install everything back to factory, but doing this won't affect any of your settings or Apps, it will just refresh all rest to factory all your system Apps, SO, just do this first (you can even do it on Kies, just use the Firmware Upgrade and Initialization option) and then Check for the Early Month Update, update your phone, then do the Smart Switch thing and you will be almost completely covered.
Just leave your re-root for the end, just in case. Good Luck.

Well I guess it came to that.....
Kies is a really cool app - I had no clue it was better than titanium backup.
No need to root I guess.
Kies would not restore official rom IT kept locking up after download.
I ended up using ODIN.
Took Two times then a DATA WIPE.
Then Kies to restore everything but my Multi Window is working.
Thanks...
But now I am wondering if a data wipe was really all I needed instead of redoing the ROM?

Glad that at least is working and you have your data restored on your S4. but just FYI, I use Titanium Backup PRO in all my devices, is great for backup all your apps, and then you can restore all of them with even the data, BUT when you are moving from a device to another, or even with teh same device, when you change Roms, it's not recommended to restore all data and system apps, next time just do the restore your apps option. I have successfully restored all System and Apps before, when only when I had a good backup of all o fit, and then screwed something up, so I just reinstalled same Rom or do a factory reset, then do the full restore, it can definitely save you a lot of work and time.

Just FYI, Google Account also backs up WiFi information (SSID + Passwords). I found this out surprisingly when I upgraded from an HTC EVO 3D to the GS 4. When I added my Google Account, it proceeded to restore my home screen wallpaper, my apps, my contacts, and my Wifi info.

how do i stop system update in progress?

can someone please help me ,i did not not update my phone i got it back from RMA and it would not complete the setup process .
i entered my google account and it kept on freezing and would not set up
failed first 3 times then on the 4th try it it almost set up , i got the new device sign in notification on my other device
but google play store would not sign in or download apps it hung there for hours
when i rebooted the phone it said system update in progress ,the phone was already on 7.1.2
i think huawei puts their own versions on when you send it in,does not seem like a good idea to overwrite to the normal OTA version but nobody seems to know if it is safe or not but i would rather not do it if possible
i held down power and vol down and get to the boot menu but i have no idea what to do or if it is possible to stop the update

First off, boot to recovery mode and do a factory reset. If you don't know how, there are plenty of YouTube videos out there. Secondly you MUST to be able to log into your Google account. You said "it would not log in". Not sure what that really means, but after the factory reset make sure you have SOLID and known working Wi-Fi connection and try the setup again. Once you have logged in to your Google account, it should offer to restore your apps/settings from the last time your old phone was working correctly. If this doesn't work then download the latest full image from Google and install with flash-all.bat using the instructions on the download page.

When you first boot to 7.1.2, it is normal get a popup screen that says it is finalizing updates or completing system updates (something like that) then the popup goes away. Huawei does not have, or install their "own version" of Android on devices. Your problem now seems limited to the Play Store not restoring your apps? Assuming you are logged into the same Google account, you should still be able to see your apps under the "Library" tab in PS. If they are listed there but not under the "Installed" tab then you have a sync problem with the PS. Try force closing the PS, and then clear data and reboot. You can also check the sync status under Settings>>Accounts>>Google>>App Data. If things look normal there (synced recently), then under the 3 dot menu, REMOVE your account and reboot the phone. Add the account back and re-sync.

ok that is just what they told me the last time i RMA and they updated it to 7.1.1
but the phone does not auto restore my apps it only installs the stock apps and under installed it just shows stock apps
under library ti says not installed on this device and then it lists all the apps i have on all my devices logged into that account but they are not categorized by device they are just all lumped in together
instead of being under headings of the device names
i can force close the play store but i can no longer find the clear cache or clear data option anymore ,all it has now is uninstall updates
where my phone booted and froze during restore and then factory data reset was performed again do you think it overwrote the last cloud backup where it had all my apps with the phone status after the factory data reset
where it was blank except for the stock apps, and would there be a way to restore from an earlier backup

They are all lumped together, because apps are by account, not by device.... so it appears they are still there. Under Settings>>Apps>>Google Play Store you will find "Force Stop" button and right below it "Storage". In Storage is where you Clear Data. No, you didn't overwrite or corrupt anything in the cloud. If it was there (your Apps and Settings) it is still there. You can see for yourself on your Drive Account. Log in, open the Backups folder and you will see a time stamp on your Apps and Settings as well as how many Apps are backed up. If these the ones you want and recent, then eventually your phone will sync and d/l them. If clearing PS data/reboot and removing your account/reboot/reinstate does not work you may need to do a fresh install. Especially since a factory reset did not work...... Not the factory reset in Android.... the wipe/factory reset in recovery mode. By fresh install I mean fully wipe the phone partitions and flash a full Google image using flash-all.bat. You have not mentioned Wi-Fi at all, so I'm assuming you have a bad ass Wi-Fi connection and it is working perfectly during the INITIAL SETUP and that is not a factor.

i have no idea what you just said ,no idea how to do any of that ,this is a stock phone , there is no TWRP
how do you wipe and install and flash full google image
wifi is not an issue
yes i am aware apps are linked to the account but this is still retarded , it should put the apps under heading of which devices they were installed on when logged into that account ,now i got apps for 5 phones ago different carrier apps samsung app and all kinds of other **** ****ting up the list
if google had any god damn common sense they would at least include an option to list by device ,show you which apps you installed on which devices when you were signed into the account this is a really piss poor way of doing things , but then again so is everything google developers do
what makes it even worse is that there are apps in there that were not even installed by the account
but that were previously installed on other devices before you sign in like carrier apps and system apps and manufacturer apps all the preinstalled crapware so if you even sing in on a samsung device even for a minute it all gets sync to the list and there is not way to sort it, you can not filter by device

You have not mentioned Wi-Fi at all, so I'm assuming you have a bad ass Wi-Fi connection and it is working perfectly during the INITIAL SETUP and that is not a factor.

no it shows nothing when i go to drive this is bull****
google sucks
i see a list of my devices and it says 6p , and all it says is last backup has the date i got the phone back and do the factory data reset again ,when i click on it it say 16 apps , but stock apps alone are 32 apps
when i do a factory data reset on the phone i see my device and when i click on it it has the same backup date but
it says 32 apps, when i click it on the phone i see a list of the apps but they are just all the stock apps, when i click the backup in google drive it does not show me a list of apps it just says 16 apps which makes no god damn sense at all
the number of apps do not even match in dive and on the phone, one says 32 the other says 16
i can't even get a list what the 16 apps are in drive, on the phone i get a list but it is just stock apps none of the apps i downloaded on the phone from the play store show up
this is ridiculously piss poor there should be a way to list all the backups in chronological that i can select from , select which one i want to restore from , it only lists the last sync which was after a factory data reset so there are no apps why is google so god damn fuking retarded? looks like it just constantly overwrites your backups and only has the last one it made,so if it fails to backup and you do a factory date reset you are screwed because the last backup will be of a black factory reset device and there is no way to go back and select other backups

In the time it took to write this long Google rant, you could have downloaded ALL the apps you had on the first phone and be half way through setting them up. I have to say Google backup and restore works pretty well for stock apps and data, and for the additional 20 odd non-market apps I use Titanium Backup. From a fully wiped phone anyone can install the OS and all their personal apps including all shortcuts and widgets in about 45 minutes, so I don't know what you are on about for two days now. If app data is that important to you, then invest in Titanium Backup or Flashfire and rely on yourself for backups.

i can't use titanium backup because this is a stock device with major battery issues that has already been sent for warranty 3 times and been given back to me in the same condition with the same issues, early shut down and ridiculous battery drain
i can't root the device because it will void my apparently utterly useless warranty and i'm not sure i want to even do anything to this device now because it has so many issues with boot loops and early shut downs which i am already having since i got it so why would i want to complicate things and take more risks with it by adding root or custom roms when the damn thing don't even work to begin with, nobody can give a definite answer as to why these issues happen so i would rather wait till someone gets to the bottom of it which will probably be never
backup and restore should be simple and straight forward and reliable
it should show you a list of apps in both drive and on the device that you can restore from
not just list one latest one , this is not rocket science it should be part of the most basic functionality of the OS
and it is a mess there is really no excuse for this at all
i bought this thinking i could root flash custom roms and xposed but now i am scared to even power it on
i been waiting for 10 months now to get a device i know is not already fukt and can get over 1.5 hours SOT ,so i could start from a device i know had no known issues ,during this time N gets released and all these issues crop up and huawei and google refuse to
do anything for 10 months except waste my time making me send my phone 3 times only to return it without doing anything to it
and every time i send it in ,3 times now i have this issue and now they send me another label to send it back but will not guarantee i will be sent a replacement i do not have time to be setting up the hone every single week again and again every time i RMA it
this whole thing is ridiculous this post was least of the wasting of my time i can assure you of that
yeah i could have tried to do it manually but i do not remember what every app and setting had was from a phone i have not used in 2 weeks
Well hopefully the 3rd time is a charm and they actually replaced your battery, which likely is the only thing wrong with the phone. Based on the two main reasons you cited for RMA (early shutdown and poor battery life) you should focus on checking the current battery you have and compare the current capacity your battery has against a new 3,450 mAh battery. If your battery is <85% estimated capacity then the battery is degraded and needs to be replaced. It may be worth your time (and sanity) to just buy a battery and have it replaced at a local repair shop. The battery itself sells for under $20. In a perfect world Google should apologize to you and send you a totally new phone, but after 3 RMA attempts that is not going to happen. In reading the many 6P battery threads here on XDA you will find replacement batteries have completely solved the issues 99% of the time. 4.5-5 hours SOT is pretty standard on a 6P with a healthy battery. As for rooting? Well it is undisputed that even on a stock ROM, a custom kernel like EX Kernel or Franco's even on default settings will provide a significant improvement in battery life, with the added bonus of being able to install root apps like Titanium backup. My advice would be to check the battery and if it tests bad, provide this data to Huawei/Google. If they don't explicitly offer to change the battery, then hang up and just order one yourself and have it installed locally.

probably will be expensive to get installed $20 is cheap but it will probably cost $200 to put in, i hear this device is not easy to open at all
it probably was the battery it had severe battery drain before when i sent it in on MM, but now it has early shut down on top of it since they updated it to 7.1.1 and now to 7.1.2
they made it worse plus it has a big chip on the back bezel and a little chip
