How fast is your G1 - G1 General

I got mine unlocked on the AT&T network, most likely EDGE because its only quadband.
But **** ebven on EDGE net it should be faster that 128kbs, That's my average and max speed so far from dslreports.com

128kbs is the same as 16KB/s so that's about right for EDGE.

I get 38kbs over here and that's on EDGE, your data is over 3x faster than mine. I don't feel bad for you lol.

Edge speeds are going to be all over the place. Yours is actually not bad. For example, my Edge speeds here in Atlanta (on the rare occasions that I don't have 3G) are really fast - so fast that I don't even notice the lack of 3G. When I go to my in-laws' in Ohio, I want to punch someone in the face because of the slow Edge speeds.

365 kbit/s
On Orange 3G network, capped at 384 kbit/s

I have gotten my G1 up to 100mph, I think it could easily handle 200mph+, but my car cannot. G1: 1; Car: 0

ive seen 450 as my highest download speed on g1
and pjforpres time for a new car

fastest I've gotten was 1800 kbps on 3g

I average 900+kbps on 3G. Fastest it reach so far was 1002kbps exactly, seems like it can reach higher but something might be hindering it. I wish I live in Philadelphia so I can experience 3000+kbps.

20 mbps WITH WIFI
100kbps with edge havnt tried 3g as yet

I thought this wasn't possible to achieve these speeds.
I have 12 mbps internet and I only get like 4 or 5mbps tops.

well we have a company out here called flow and they offer internet through optic fibre cables which can give rich people up to 100mbps its unbelievable
the normal connections are like 2, 4, 8, 10, 20, and 54mbps i believe.
its a company that provides landline cable tv(optic fibre) and HIGH speed internet

He wasn't talking about your ISP's speed, he was saying he didn't think the G1 could go that fast on WiFi, that it stalled out around 4-5...
Which is about what I get. I have a 20MBPS optic internet setup myself, and my G1 only gets 5MBPS over WiFi on a really good day. That is after testing many different speednet servers. (Chicago is the fastest, even though it isn't the closest to me).
I have also gone to websites and run the test using those, and still maxes out at about 5MBPS.
When I have done this with my laptop, I usually get 19.XMBPS...

Edge: 182 kbps down, 42 kbps up.
3g: 2112 kbps down, 412 kbps up.
Wifi: 5226 kbps down, 4885 kbps up. I have a 20/20 mbit connection.

by joe your right lol thanks man lol

Mine reports 1711 kbps through my Telcel home WiFi setup.
Have a great afternoon!

Here in Chile (The G1 doesn't support the chilean 3G bands, so only EDGE) I get about 20~25kB/s when I'm capped and ~30kB/s when I'm not.

HSDPA Speed Test

So I was just chilling in a hotel room in Dallas, TX last night and picked up my phone to see that instead of 3G it displayed H after some research I decided to try this out i did a speed test with my mobile browser and this is the result i got
771 kbps from mobilespeedtest.com
Has anyone else enjoyed this blazing fast speeds let us know
i only got 427
3g = 400, so i guess im OKAY
some people on HSDPA get over 1 mb/s..even on 3g, I've gotten up to 800kbs before...you're not doing it right

That's pretty much exactly the speed I get on HSDPA, pretty much independent on how many bars I have lol (well with 1 bar, it tends to slow down)
But if you're in one of the areas that got the HSDPA+ update, you can hit 1.5Mbps easily
Start off by testing with some other site than mobilespeedtest...their results are inconsistent and unreliable.
Here's a good one for you, there's others if you want to search...but for results that you can trust, you need a better option than the one you're using now
http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed (just go there from opera or pIE)
Mine only shows 3G, but I'm getting 846k. I'm located in Madison, WI.
I had 1000kbps -1400kbps when I'm standing outside in the streets here in NYC
yea ive hit upward to 1800 from dslreports... mobilespeedtest i once hit 8mbs!!! lmao...
Um, maybe I am doing something wrong, but I am in salt lake city, and my 3G is giving me less than 200 kbps. I have tried opera 9, 10, skyfire, and IE. This isn't really what I have in mind for 3G speeds. I have tried this on www.dslreports.com/mspeed and www.mobilespeedtest.com. I will test this tomorrow at work, but more and more I am becoming disheartened with tmobile 3G. I also tried using my wireless network at home, and I was getting super fast speeds with it.
nj
3g 1180 kbit/second in side my brick aprtment building
So I went outside this morning and did it again, and now its double...Just under 400 kbps. Which according to mobilespeedtest.com, that is just barely slower than EDGE speeds. FML. I'm switching to verizon when my contract expires.
Fairly old thread, but would be nice to see some new tests
I was surprised when I did it, good result after testing it 5 times...
Thats with 3 bars HSDPA on o2 in scotland
Just for comparable, here is my home broadband speed from the same site
(Slow broadband, I know but its Scotland and only 20mbit from Sky... )

But the largest file is 1MB and I am still getting that message.

I have HD not HD2. I did't perform a special test but when using my phone as a wifi router (HSDPA connected) i download files 350-450 kbps/s on my PC. I will post here my speed test when i buy a HD2 Leo
4,900 kb/s here in the Silicon Valley with Speedtest.net.
1547kbps - mobilespeedtest (internet explorer)
(too fast a result) - dslreports (all)
.99mbps down / .92 up - speedtest.net (mobile internet explorer)
1.73mbps down / 1.24mbps up - speedtest android application
2.55 down / 1.11 up - speedtest.net (android browser)
3478kbps (100kb) / 17949kbps (7MB) - mobilespeedtest (android browser)
mobilespeedtest ~ 1800kbps
speedtest.net app ~ 4000kbps
those are the average after 5 runs.
1859 kbps using dsl reports 1mb file
3800 kbps using mobile speed test 3mb file
on o2 in North East England, UK.
5161kbps with the mobilespeedtest 7mb file. DSLReports told me all the files were loaded too fast/unreliably. The best part is that I pay 2€/mo for my mobile data with no restrictions at all here in Finland.

[CLOSED/G2] Anyone else notice a difference in wireless speedtests?

Left = Comcast via wireless laptop.
Right = Comcast via HTC G2.
Odd that there's a 10M download difference between laptop and phone.
The HTC G2 is rated up to 14.4M on 3G, so i was expecting up to that on wireless.
So far on the best results I've gotten on HSPA+ is 5M down/1.5M up.
That's strange I don't have mine yet but ill test this as well. I have been able to get higher rates than that with my other phones.

5M down is pretty good, actually. The bigger issue is latency, which is a lot lower on + networks.
Are you running 802.11g or 802.11n for the wireless network? Even if it's apples to apples, you can't expect a phone to compare well to a laptop (with full-size wifi antennas, faster CPU to run the speed test, etc) anyway.
cell phone wifi radios aren't as strong as ipod touch which aren't as strong as laptop radios, i get 5 megs on htc, 11 on ipod touch, and 20 on wifi, the device you are using makes a big difference in speed

Yes, the attached image shows the server in Modesto, CA, which is about 75 miles south of Sacramento.

Just Curious..

Hey I was curious about my speeds in my house so I did a test. Now i get between 0 - maybe 2 bars in here, but the internet seems to work great even not on wifi so I tried it and checked my signal.
Signal -96dBm - -106dBm
Tests ~
1. DL / 956 - UL / 371
2. DL / 1208 - UL / 406
3. DL / 1235 - UL / 220
So that seems pretty good for really crappy service. At my school though theres a Sprint box just up the road and I get great service so I'll run a few test there and see what the numbers look like! How do your numbers compare?
-D3luSi0n4L
With 3 bars:
1394 down, 606 up
I've seen as high as 1800 and as low as 900 down, so I guess that's about average for my house.
Hmm alright, so I guess my speeds are not that great. Its weird though I've seen users around here who struggle to get even close to 400 DL, with 3+ bars.
Anyway, thanks for the response!
Sincerely,
D3luSi0n4L
To tell you the truth the speeds are pretty good. I pull those speeds when I'm at home but when I'm at work they drop to the 300 - 600 range. The same can be said for campus, or pretty much any place with a large concentration of sprint devices.

I struggle to get over 80kB/s Down & Up with full bars, regardless of server using Speed Test.net app.
I have an AirRave using my Verizon FIOS 30/30 connection, so it doesn't get much faster then what I can get at home.
2029 Down
668 Up
It seems like the upload is capped around 700 or so for some reason for me. Keeps hitting 700 then dropping down when running the speed test.
At home on wifi I get my entire bandwidth 16mb down 1.5mb up.. on my airrave I get 1.8mb down 1.0mb up
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

3 bars I got 1721 down and 341 up.

I think the AnandTech.com review said they got 72mb/s with it. It was the fastest phone/tablet they had tested over wifi by a mile.
I haven't tested the wifi connection, but as far as the internet connection on wifi goes, I was getting around 11mb/s, then a minute later I would get 1.5mb/s, then I would get a bunch of pages that wouldn't load.
What's the max you can get on WiFi? Isn't it 54mbps?

its rated at 72Mbps they only got 36Mbps out of it which is still fastest phone/ tablet they have tested. iPad was the leader with 30.something... Looks like the Optimus 2X also had 30.somethingalittlelower...
i can't get above 12-13 on phone or computer...
I get 19-20 mb/s with the tab on the same network.
Same here, i'm consistently getting 20-22Mb/s on my Xoom. My DroidX never goes above 16 or 17.

that made me lol so i give you thanks. yea im not quite certain on how wireless tech works. Im just going by what i remember when I had xp and it told you bitrate down at the taskbar if you hovered or the wifi signal. When I had a wireless b/g router it always said 54mbps but when I got a wireless b/g/n router it said 128 mbps.
well the a/b/g/n bands are in both wifi bands of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz respectively. The a/n bands are in the 5GHz band, and it has a higher data transfer rate, but shorter distance. It goes thru brick walls easier tho.
wireless n can get anywhere from 130-160 realworld, and is capable of reaching 300mbps. but if your router has other devices on it that operate at any of the 2.4GHz bands, then you'll greatly decrease your speeds using n.

Erroneous Speed Tests on Atrix

Need your Help, I went into a AT&T store today, and got to play with a Sales Persons Personal Atrix, not a Demo. The Phone is very fast we downloaded Speed Test from Exreme Labs, I kid you not, "Blink" and it was done, I thought initially we had a disconnect, but not so. I have a concern, we ran Speed Test about 8 times and averaged 1.35 mbps Download and 1.38 mbps Upload??
How can that be? is it possible that there is a problem, I have also heard wide spread complaints of similar slow speeds.
I was curious to see, "could it be a set of "Bad Circumstances" One of the Other Sales Reps had a New IPhone4 and was kind enought to download Speed Test- We ran it, and had a Huge Difference- The IPhone was showing very fast speeds Download and so,so upload, via Extreme Labs Speed Test-
As I played with the Atrix, I went to different sites and dowloaded varied items, You Tube, Web Sites in the Middle East that are very labor intensive sites, Atrix FLEW through this stuff- The Atrix Raptor Fighter Jet Type Performance cast a big shadow of "Doubt as to whether the results were accurate", can anyone Help Please!
Thank you
I bet the sales rep had their Atrix on WiFi or they managed to get their phone updated/ provisioned properly to enable HSUPA.
can you explain your comments a little better, yes the phone was on wifi
The speed issues aren't about wifi speeds.
1. Pop that iPhone and the Atrix back on AT&T's network and run those speed tests again.
2. Watch the iPhone 4's upload speeds quadruple the Atrix.
3. Stare at the AT&T salesperson trying to sell you the phone and ask "Where the hell is your 4G now?"
sounds like the Atrix guy was using a relatively slow wifi connection and the iPhone guy might have been using 3G wireless
also, I've found my iphone 4 to be pretty susceptible to interference on the 2.4ghz band with wifi
Just ran a back to back with my atrix and iphone 4 on my home wifi. atrix on 5ghz and the iphone on 2.4ghz
atrix - 18169 Kbp/s down 8838 Kbp/s up
iphone 4 - 9814 Kbp/s down 2816 Kbp/s up
atrix over regular wireless 3232 Kbp/s down 336 Kbp/s up
