hero can't connect to the internet sometimes and... - Hero, G2 Touch General

My problem is that the device more and more often can't connect to EDGE network. I'm just trying to load a site and it says "check your settings..." I try several times and its all the same. Only after a reboot is works. Any suggestions? ROM is original.
Another question - I pretty often use phone numbers like xxx-xxx-xxxx p xxx...
The problem is that it look like my hero doesn't understand "p" sign inside the phone number in my contacts, so I have manually enter all digits after main number. I use that for calling cards where I enter PIN after mail phone number and then country code, but I have to manually dial that.
Is there a fix for that? It's very important for me as I use that every day.
Thanks in advance.

For pauses,
http://www.technipages.com/htc-hero-add-pauses-to-phone-number.html
suggests using commas instead.
It doesn't look like it will work though, but I see a P key and a W key when I go to enter a number. Perhaps you could try the P or W and see if it does what is necessary. I can't really try it here as I don't use any services that rely on it.
Nothing to suggest really about the internet. Who's your provider, and what software version is on the phone. Have you kept it up to date?

Cant Press Numbers during Phone Call

So i have WM6 on my MDA and it worlds perfectly fine, my only problem is that if im on a call and i need to press number to go through a menu, it dosnt work. The number popup as if im pressing them, but i cant go through the menus, it dosnt work on any phone calls; not even my voicemail. I just want to be able to fix it so that when i press numbers during a call it actually sends the numbers.
Simple solution: go back to a shipped version!
The WM6 ROMs are all 'selfmade', so, you might experience some minor or major bugs ...

Are you installing the T-Mobile .cabs to your phone, like the network custimzations, mms, etc. if so, that may be your issue as it was mine before, so I had started manually inserting the internet server settings, and things like that, instead of installing the .cabs, and that solved my issue...
I posted details on another thread, I will find it and post link here for you.

inserting pauses for Wing speed dialing

No one at T-Mobile has the answer and HTC tech support referred me here. I dial my office voice mail maybe 10-15 times a day. On my Sprint phone I was able to insert pauses in the dialing. It would dial the number, pause for the voice command, add a string of numbers, pause for the next voice command, and finally put in my password. So I could press 3, for example, and it would take me all the way through to my messages. So far I can not find a way to put in the pauses on the Wing. So I have to press 3 and then wait for the voice command, and then manually put in the next string of numbers, then wait again for the next voice command, and then put in the password. This is time consuming and impossible to do while driving. Anyone know if it can be done on the Wing? If so, how? Thanks, Tom
I have not tried it on the Wing... But try just putting a comma "," in the dialing string... Should work.... Does on all my other phones......
Commas
I tried this. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I don't think so. In my contacts I go to the phone number. Here is the string I use (with x's for most of the numbers): 1802xxxxxxx,,,#802xxxxxxx,,,xxxxxx
I have this as a speed dial and also as a T-Mobile Fav. Any way I try to dial it it only dials the 1802xxxxxxx and then stops.
There is no way to insert pauses
I have now been told by someone who seems to know at T-Mobile that the Wing has no way to insert pauses into a contact phone number. To me this is a near fatal flaw. It means that if I call my office voice mail 5-10 times a day I have to type 16 extra digits (which includes my phone number and my password) each time I try to get my messages. Oh well.

Tried it on the Wing but no luck. When I dial with the P's added, the dialing never gets past the first string of numbers. On the dialing screen there are no P's and nothing past the first string. This is true for comma's also. When I tried it with ***'s it did appear, these did appear on the dialing screen of the Wing when I dialed but the call clicked off without dialing with the message, "Call Ended." One thing I noticed is that Outlook takes anything after the first string of numbers and puts the rest under "Extension" and puts an x before it. But I'm having the problem even if I enter the number only on the Wing and not in Outlook.
My mistake -- p's work and also commas

Yes! I see what I was doing wrong. A comma or a "p" both work fine. Thanks for the help.
One problem remains: I have this number as one of My Fav's, and if I dial it using My Fav, it doesn't do the pauses. I think I have to wait until July 1 and refresh the My Fav. -- I hope.
And what have you done wrong? (Just to solve this one exactly)

At least this: When did the speed dial (after inserting the pauses), at least a few times I did not wait long enough for the pause to kick in. On my Sprint phone I think it happened quicker with more pauses (I think), and I was used to have it happen quickly.
The Call Ended message that kept happening may possibly have been due to being out of a service area, but I tested at the time and other calls were going through, so I'm not sure what happened.
Finally, I haven't synced it back with my desktop yet. I hope the Outlook on the desktop doesn't screw things up.
One more thing if it is useful: T-Mobile has these My Fav's. If I dial using the speed dial or directly from the number itself, it is working. But if I dial directly from the My Fav's it does not insert the pause. I think the reason is that I uploaded the My Fav number to T-Mobile before I put in all the pauses, so T-Mobile must have it and be using it without the pauses. On the first of the month I intend to upload it again with the pauses and see if that will work. Hope so.
Thanks, Tom
we can also use a 'w' to insert a wait
along with the 'p' for pause, a 'w' can also be used to insert a wait. That would be useful when you are not sure how long to pause and want control of when to send the rest of the DTMF sequence. If you insert a 'w', you have to keep pressing the Green Call button and it will keep sending the DTMF sequence till the next 'w' in the number.
I use that very frequently to dial international phone numbers with different calling cards.
a w may work on the wing, most current android phones it seems like a ";" is whats required for the wait tone. also a comma is used for pause (3 seconds)but the easiest way i found to do it is by simply pressing the menu button while in the dialpad screen, it will pop up with options to add wait's or pause's

Unable to dial using +44 codes. Is this normal?

Hi there,
MS Outlook on my desktop PC has all my contacts in +44 format (for some reason). Now I've synced my Trinity up, the contacts have transferred over in this format. When I try to dial the number the call doesn't connect. Instead T-Mobile thinks I am using keypad codes to toggle my voicemail.
I guess my questions are:
1. Is there a simple change I can make on the handset for it to accept +44 contacts? Or do I need to change them all back to 01753 etc.
2. If I *do* need to change them all back, will I be able to make international calls when I eventually make it abroad with this device? Or will I have to change back to +44.
3. Finally, if I'm abroad and use skype in a WLAN hotspot, will I need to use +44 or the regular UK dialling codes, say 01753?
Many thanks!
Ermmm it should "just work" tm.........
You havent accidentally added a 0 after the +44?
ie 01652 becomes +441652 and NOT +4401652
otherwise in windows have you checked you have set an area code anywhere? IIRC in the dialup section type thingy.
IF you change tham all to 01 etc then when you go abroad you need to drop the 0 and add +44
No idea about Skype
Personally all my contacts are a mixture of +44 or 01's depending whether I want to call them fom abroad or not and dont ever have an issue dialing them.
But hope the above is a little helpful
hi,
you're right. they all have a 0 after the 44. Outlook did this so i'm hoping it's fairly easy to remove them all as a global change.
thanks for helping me out.
at home now sitting in front of my pc.
can i get it to work?
no i cant.
outlook won't delete the first zero, ie (0)1753
the help section is a joke.
can anyone help please?
TIA
it seems that outlook on the pc is sensible enough to know to know if a number is dialled, the first zero is auto dropped.
but this is not the case with the handset. it will try and dial whatever numbers are in the contact fields (i think).
note: my handset is working. if i delete the preceeding +44, the number is called.
i've tried searching this site's for answers but to no avail.
has anyone else had this problem?
cheers
i'm either incredibly thick or MS office dont consult with MS Mobile.
sorry for multiple posts!
Remove all dialling rules and save all numbers using +44 xxxxyyyyyyyy. That's what I have done long time ago and it works fine. It also helps to deal with Italian numbers where you need to leave the 0 in when calling a fixed network number.
PS: I think you need to go through the manual editing process though
Thanks for the info. However I need to have my hand held with this.
"Remove all dialling rules"
Is this on my Desktop PC outlook or on the handset?
"save all numbers using +44 xxxxyyyyyyyy"
Have I got to re-enter every number on the Desktop PC outlook?
And do I include the first zero or leave it blank?
CHeers!

On the handheld: go to the Settings, Connections, Advanced, Dialing Rules and make sure "use dialing rules" is not selected.
Then go to Outlook on your PC and remove all zeros and all brackets from all numbers; put the numbers the same way you would dial them on the phone keypad (when calling from abroad). You don't need to re-enter all numbers, you need to edit them, which is just slightly less boring I am afraid.
Ops.... Are you also using your PC connected to a land line modem to dial numbers? I hope not because in that case it would not work as you cannot dial a "+" from a land line!

Oh this is easy! On Skype you always need country codes.

Anyone else with caller ID problems?

Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone else might be having a similar problem with 'caller [or texter] ID'.
Most networks, as I understand it, use the international dialing code when sending out texts and calls, meaning this is usually the incoming number when you recieve a text or call.
I've obviously got people programmed into my contacts who text me but when they do, I don't get their name, I get their number - with the dialling code eg. +447750500500. When I tap to go into the threaded mode, I'll get all previous contact with this person but with them identified only as the number. However if I head to the People tab, then again to see the messages I've sent/recieved with that person, I get the same messages only under the banner of their name and not the number.
I believe calls work fine with the code programmed in on their contact profile.
Anyone know why this is being caused?
I have the same problem. Both calls and text messages.
I don't think it matters if the international code is there or not.
Really frustrating not knowing who calls.
I've had this problem first time the device was initialized (right after opening the box). It might be caused by the fact I didn't have any SIM in it at that time, I'm not sure.
After a hard reset with a SIM inserted, everything started working as it's supposed to.
Hmm, I've changed the SIM, but I can't remember if it worked wih the first SIM card.
But a hard reset deletes everything, right?
There are a few things you have to be sure of:
Do not have double contacts, if you have a number (with and without operator/country prefix) twice in your list it will not show any name.
I don't know if this applies if you have a contact on your phone memory and on your sim card. I am sure it does have this problem if you have two contacts with the same number on the memory phone.
For some reason this is logic: On an incoming call, the phones checks it's phonebook and retrieves two numbers and then it does not know what to display, is it contact one, or two?
I hope this helps you out. I did not experience any problems (yet).

Try this....
1. Edit one "test number" in your contacts and remove international codes.
Just put that "test" tel number. without int. codes... And make sure that number is not stored nder another contact. (No duplicates.)
2. Then dial from that number and see if that tel# is identified. If you have just "0xx-123456" then go to #3.
3. Go to registry and change of the Caller ID match rule. (Minus one digit.)
Example: Caller ID rule:8 (Change from 8 to 7 or 6 to 5 .. trailing digits for Call ID match. )
* HKCU\Control Panel\Phone\CalIidMatch value:7
4. Restart and test again...
5. If its OK, than test with SMS.
6. If its OK again , put back your international codes and test again.
7. If not go to no.3
Hope this helps.

Hi guys!! i had this problem too but i have fix the problem. what i do:
!) i store all my contacts in my sim card and delete the contacts in the phone.
2)do a hard reset
3)upon doing the hard reset, the phone will prompt you on importing sim contacts and finding your service provider. select both and and press ok
4)now try to call from your house to your phone to do a check.
5)my problem was solved after this
hope it helps!

What was happening to me before the reset was a bit different - the phone wasn't able to match anything at all - even a number called from the phonebook and stored in "recent calls" in EXACTLY the same way it's in contact, didn't match to the contact when redialed.
I think that something required for Caller ID to work gets done when the phone is first initialized, and that this step requires full access to the phone module (which the phone doesn't have without a SIM inserted and a proper PIN entered).
hi,
i encountered also that worry,
i set the HKCU\Control Panel\Phone\CalIidMatch value:9
my mobile phone number to test was stored as "06xxyyzzww"
and when i phone my diamond2 from that number
the caller id is recognized
(with showing as +336wwxxyyzz)
i tested from my home phone stored in contacts as 04wwxxyyzz
i rang my topaz its was identfied as my home,
(with showing as +334wwxxyyzz)
i am in france, + is for 00 ,our phone numbers are 10 digits long
(mobiles and "home") ,
to be joined from abroad, you have to dial +33+phone number WITHOUT the first digit "0")
so the "9" value i put in the registry
if it could help you

Hi,
just stumbled over the same problem.
The old phone (HTC P330) resolved numbers from my used format 01234-56789.
Since my contacts are a mess, I have 01234-12345, +49-123456-456, +49 (0123)-456 and so on, it would be a great pain in my ass to switch every contact to +49123-456 (which the new phone resolved).
I compared the Registry-Entry from the P3300 with the TD2 and voila: TD2 was 12, P3300 had the value 8.
I changed the TD2 to value 8, reboot and now I'm happy again, the phone is getting used to my contact list

Hi,
I'm experiencing the exactly same problem, that incomming calls or messages isn't shown by name, but only by number.
I'm all new to Windows mobile, but I tried downloading a regeditor, and experimented with different values in the CallIdMatch string. However, no succes.
I live in Denmark, where numbers look like +4512345678, where +45 is the international code. Can someone please tell me, what should be the correct value? The original values was 8.
I have further found that some contacts are recognized. What the difference is between the groups, are however unclear!
Caller ID problem, my solution
I had the same problem. But after a hard reset it seems to work just fine now. Remember to backup your downloaded programs etc before doing this.

Hi,
"8" should be the good figure for you, as in France
we have phone numbers +33987654321
and "9" is the good value for me, in:
HKCU\Control Panel\Phone\CalIidMatch value:
Edit: i remove previous "edit"
in fact all my contacts had been erased" so it was normal to have no caller ID?
ps: is your carrier sendind all the figures when you're receiving calls, i mean +4512345678
so perhaps you're encountering a bug .
you should try to backup your device, with a soft like spritebackup(special price for htc owners on their webpage) and experiment an hardreset
and restore

Hi ,
did you ever try to change the following:
RegistryEdit and Decreasing the CallIDMatch from 12 to 7 solved my Issue
See below
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone" name="CallIDMatch"
Greetings from Slovenia
Hello,
that is my first post so please do not be very critical to my english level and PPC skills .
now this is an old thread but for BULGARIA the correct registry value is "9". Here the mobil numbers are as follows "08xx 123456" (9 digits without the ZERO at the very beginning). that is why the usefull number is that (default for my TD2 was 8). Now after this fix the phone can correctly identify which number i want to dial when i am inserting it by digits, instead of selecting the exact person. i do not know am i explaining correctly but i will try to put some more detail on that. When i want to dial some particular number (for example "08xx 123456") the phone select me the correct contact no matter how i put this contact in memory. with "+3598xx 123456" or only with "08xx 123456". before that intervention the phone identifies me the correct contact only if i type the digits, exactly the same way that i have added it to the memory. So i think that this registry key does not have a universal resolution. the resolution depends on how many digits is using tha particular mobile operator.
i hope that will be helpful for someone who is happy to own an HTC and is happy with it ... like Me

mystery bug -using an access code to dial internationally - TouchHD/WM6.1

Hello,
I often use an access code to dial internationally, and once I am connected to that access number, I have to enter the number of the person I am calling.
I have an HTC Touch HD with WM6.1pro and cannot find a way to do it. If I connect to the access number, then at the prompt go to my address book and dial a second number, it assumes I want to have two separate calls and puts the access code on Hold... which is not what I want! I do not remember all my friend's numbers, so I do have to use the address book.
With my old nokia n95, once connected I could go to the menu and say I want to dial a DTMF which is the tone you hear when dialing a normal phone. This allows me to follow on with calling the number I need while connected to the call.
Is there a way of doing this on WM6?
I have a kind of work around. I edit my international friends phone numbers as a "car phone" and the numbers look like this
02081802828 p 0027115555555
the access code, then I add p to pause then their number.
The HUGE problem is that when I dial any of my international contacts, the phone displays the same person... so no matter who I call internationally, it always shows a photo of my friend Ian, and displays his name instead of the person I am actually speaking to. I think this is a bug where WM6.1 only looks at the first 11 characters of a number, but the problem is, all my intl numbers have the same first 11 numbers.
Help MUCH appreciated, thanks,
Mark.

Don't know if it will work... but you coud try (using Advanced Config) to increase the number of digits used to "match" the numbers in the contacts... for example to 18 or 19 numbers... but I cannot immagine what other "consequencies"could happen...
Let us know !

Hi Kostas
It seems that the problem is actually with spb Mobile Shell and not windows mobile.
When I dial using the windows mobile dialler, it gets the name and picture right, but when I use spb's dialler it shows the wrong person and name...
I will chase it up with them... and thanks for the good idea, unfortunately the Call ID Match does not help the problem.
Efgaristo!
