My Hero will charge, but it will not show that its connected to a pc. No popup on the notification bar and nothing in the device manager on the PC.
Anybody have any insight?
Are you using the USB cable that came with the Hero? I found this happening to me and it was because I was using a different cable.

My htc softbank will not connect to my computer. When i plug it in (any usb port and using many usb cords) the computer makes the "dun dun" sound and nothing happens. When i pull the cable out, it makes the disconnect sound. Ive even un-installed activesync and still nothing.
I can....connect to my girlfriends computer no problem even without activesync.
any ideas?
I have a HTC TOUCH HD, I can not connect all'Active Sync, I tried several computers but I do not recognize the smartphone anywhere. When you restart the HTC so provisional bottom line on the white seems to me not written but Serial USB, the device to a USB seems my friend, I think that is the problem, someone help me know?
First of all have you ever been able to use the USB port on your phone to sync. If yes then it is possible a setting has changed. Go to Start><Settings>Connections and USB to PC. There is a tickbox for Faster Data, Try both ticking and unticking the box. If this does not work then i would Start with uninstalling and reinstalling Active sync for XP and WMDC if you are on Vista.
If this Fails then try Hard Resetting your phone to see if this helps at all. If you have never been able to USB it i possble there is a fault on the Port. Also does the phone charge? this uses the USB and if it does not charge then you know you have a fault.
tnx
The phone is charging when the battery is not fully discharged.
If the battery is discharged only half does not load, it's something very strange.
Then I noticed that pressing Power button down and you start your phone in foil and colored ce SERIAL written while on the phone to my friend's USB ce, this could be the problem?
Before working with usb port
UP
Uppppppppppppppppppppppppp
it's very likely the USB port is damaged
I've been using the usb cable to charge and do some ADB file copying since some time, but recently i got for my computer pc a usb hub to get some extra ports, and i noticed that when connecting my HD2 to the hub, windows 7 will say Unknown USB Device, then all other devices connected to that usb hub gets disconnected (Mouse and keyboard, and sometimes USB drive).
Does anybody else have this issue? what is the reason? solutions?
Install the htc soft ?

Is it possible that the usb hub doesn't have enough power for all these devices?
My usb hub came with a power adapter for when I wan't to attach a lot of power consuming devices.
Check and see if you still have the problem with less devices connected.
^ Ok, i missed this point:
I am using a powered hub at home and it works, the one i am using at work is a powerless hub, that seem to be the issue, anyway on this hub i have keyboard and mouse, and not heavy duty usb devices :s
i'll try to get a powered hub
I have an issue with usb connecting. When connected to computer my phone starts to charge and that's all.... I have only one icon in status menu and it's debugging one or none if debugging is off. I don't get the option to select charge only, disk drive or tethering. I tried to pull down status menu but can't do nothing from there, also I have tried to check and uncheck default action type when usb is connected but nothing happens and also setting phone to ask me what to do when usb is connected. I still get phone charged but nothing more.
Any idea is welcomed.
Cheers.
Try a usb on the pc and not a hub

Whenever I plug my G5 Plus to my computer (Windows 10) the phone starts charging but I cannot see it as an external hard drive on my computer. When I slide down the notification's bar there's nothing there for me to choose from regarding usb functionality. I've tried out 4 different usb ports and the same happens all the time. Any thoughts?
Just "fixed" it. I was using a regular usb cable. When I plugged the usb cable that came with the G5 it worked. I plugged it back with a regular usb cable and the issue reappeared. Does anyone know what type of usb cable does the G5 plus come with so I can get more?
