I have a HTC TOUCH HD, I can not connect all'Active Sync, I tried several computers but I do not recognize the smartphone anywhere. When you restart the HTC so provisional bottom line on the white seems to me not written but Serial USB, the device to a USB seems my friend, I think that is the problem, someone help me know?
First of all have you ever been able to use the USB port on your phone to sync. If yes then it is possible a setting has changed. Go to Start><Settings>Connections and USB to PC. There is a tickbox for Faster Data, Try both ticking and unticking the box. If this does not work then i would Start with uninstalling and reinstalling Active sync for XP and WMDC if you are on Vista.
If this Fails then try Hard Resetting your phone to see if this helps at all. If you have never been able to USB it i possble there is a fault on the Port. Also does the phone charge? this uses the USB and if it does not charge then you know you have a fault.
tnx
The phone is charging when the battery is not fully discharged.
If the battery is discharged only half does not load, it's something very strange.
Then I noticed that pressing Power button down and you start your phone in foil and colored ce SERIAL written while on the phone to my friend's USB ce, this could be the problem?
Before working with usb port
UP
Uppppppppppppppppppppppppp
it's very likely the USB port is damaged

Hello there,
Running an O2 XDA Mini S stock ROM with ActiveSync 4.1 on a Windows 2000. Initial ActiveSync went without a hitch, with the mobile able to sync with exhange server nice and smoothly. Then later on, whenever the phone is plugged into or unplugged from the USB data cable, the computer just reboots.
Are there any known issues with this? Could it be a problem with the USB drivers on the computer or the ports themselves? The phone developed this problem whilst plugged into an externally powered hub, but plugging the phone directly into the motherboard USB ports produced the same problems.
Thanks in advance,
Andy.
EDIT: I've attached a CPUZ report of the system so you can easily see the spec of the computer.
It's possible that your phone conector are damaged and makes a cortocircuit when you connect to the cradle.
Try whitout pluging the power in the cradle, only connecting to the usb port of the computer.

That could be a possibility, but not using a cradle here, just USB Cable.
Try deleting all of the USB controllers in Device Manager then rescan to pick them up again. resolves a multitude of USB problems

Just tried that after reading your post, no dice Thanks for the help so far though
if u r using a firewall , either disable it or delete it all to gether
i had the same problem with sygate personal firewall
If you have Kaspersky AV, download the newest version on the kaspersky website! It's not a very good idea to uninstall or disable the firewall.
Thanks for all the help guys, definately gave us a few extra things to try
Just to update the thread in case anyone comes across a similar problem in the near future;
After exhausting every possible Driver reinstall/upgrade/reformat we have come to the conclusion that it's faulty hardware (USB related) on the motherboard, so will be transferring the PC out. The PC in question is a good 5 years old and it's the MD's, so he was due for an upgrade in the near future anyway
I`ve TYTN and one day it stopped sychro via cable...
I plug cable - its starting charging but ASych stay absolutly quite (any notification any problem connecting) . Like I didnt plug cable
Ive made a Hrd reset , change cable but situation tha same .
any solution, please.
Did you reboot your pc? Did you try another USB device (USB port broken)? Did you reinstall activesync?
That's what i would try....
Try reinstall the active sync software. maybe the usb driver was corrupted
Because it can charge,so maybe the cable is OK( and the voltage is enough, some cable with too much voltage lose will not give enough current when pluged so that can not charge ) , problem should be of the software.
Besure if you have multi user environment. Only one user can use Activesync on Windows XP platform.
Do reinstall Activesync and do check the usb cable with any other computer nearby you if you are not living in desert.
I actually am having a similar problem connecting my AT&T 8525 to my computer. It charges, but won't sync. I had to start using Bluetooth in order to connect.
on the tytn go to settings -> connections -> usb to pc and untick the box

2 possibilities - if your wire has 2 cables, then one is for charging and one is for data.
the other option is that you have to terminate your relationship with the phone and establish a new one. if this is possible, then likely you will be asked wehther to delete sync files between the two or not. you may choose not to delete.
hope this helps.

This has NOTHING to do with charging.
Yes, check you didnt tick the box "do not charge when connected to a PC" in the power options.
If your battery is sufficiently depleted them the low output from your USB port may be too low to start the charging process.
Attempt the charge from wall charger and then try not to let the battery drain too much.
It is also posible that the power output from your USB port on your PC is defective, Usualy there is a fuse somewhere mounted on the mainbord and looks like a resistor. You can easy check this by using an other PC and connect the phone to that one. You don't need to intsall the ActiveSync on that PC to check. When that one is charging your batery..... Well you know.....
Oh, there is an other posible selution. Turn on your PC Joking
Are you plugging your phone into an external usb hub or directly into a usb port on the back of your computer?
I recently upgraded from an old tmo Wing and it would charge just fine off a port on my external usb hub. When I plugged my HD2 into the same port, it would not charge. If I connect my HD2 directly into the back of my computer, it charges just fine.
I'll be looking for differrent hub that provides more power and will allow for better charging.
if you POWER OFF the phone and it dose charge (orange led should appear near earpiece)
then your pc's usb and your usb cable are fine.
to fix,
go to 'SETTINGS'
and then at the bottom tap on 'ABOUT PHONE'
then tap on BATTERY'
then 'un-tick' the box that says "When the phone is on, do not charge the battery when connected to a PC"
USB Debugging mode might be on. I rooted my phone and forgot to uncheck that box and once I did, it started charging again.
How do I Stop it charging from the computer on Gingerbread Hyperdroid

Hi,
I have for two days tried getting my PC to recognize my SGS2. With no luck. I want to ROOT my phone.
I am using Windows 7 64-bit and gingerbread v2.3.5
- USB-debugging is turned OFF.
- I have tried to format the SD-card, even used different SD-cards.
- I have tried using another PC, with no luck.
- Tried diffrent versions of Kies; 1.5, 2.0, and 2.1
- Tried diffrent versions of the Samsung Mobile driver; 1.3 and 1.4.8
- Tried using a different USB-cable (the one I'm using, is original and i can see that my phone is charging.)
- I have formatted the phone several times.
- I have tried typing *#7284# and changes the USB setting from Modem -> PDA
- Windows Drivers are up-to-date.
- I cannot see anything in the Device manager.
What else is there to do? Is something wrong with my phone?
Is there any APK, besides from Gingerbreak, that i can use to root my phone?
Cheers
Could you tried it in another PC with Windows XP?
When you plug it in to the USB port... Does the phone start to charge up?
Sounds like a hardware issue, i too have Windows 7 X64 on my laptop and no such problems.
Give a shot with USB debugging to ON.

I had the same problem.
This may sound stupid, but it does work, try another USB port.
I just plugged my USB cable into either one of the front USB ports on my PC (WinXP) and sometimes the phone connected (Debugging ON: phone was an external hard drive. Debugging OFF: phone connected to KIES) and other times it didn't. I tried toggling the Debugging, switching off and on the phone, changing USB cables, uninstalling KIES and then reinstalling KIES.
I finally noticed that the phone worked fine on the front left USB port and not on the front right. I have the same thing happening on my work's PC (only it was the front right port that worked). The rear USB ports didn't work.
I doubt that it is a problem with the PC operating system (I found out later that someone with a Mac had the same problem). It therefore must be with the phone's software recognising a connection with a computer and only wanting to connect through that initial connection port.

ive noticed this problem too of it only working with certain usb ports and not others on the same pc. Quite annoying when i was trying to use my phone to transfer some files from another computer and the phone wasnt picked up by the computer.
I think it may have something to do with using MTP rather than standard USB mass storage.
Never plug your phone or any other usb powered device into your front USB ports. most of them do not supply full power. As a matter of practice you should always plug your phone into a direct motherboard USB port on the back of your computer.
I had the same problem with my front ports several times on several computers. My first galaxy S1 would not work on my front port either. all problems were solved by plugging into the direct motherboard usb ports.
Why would you turn USB debugging off?

Do you have Administrator rights?
try installing drivers manually on your pc
and then plug the phone ( usb debugging off )
Try 32bit system
Try using a 32bit XP or 7 PC someone I know had the same problem their Win 7 never gave the problem when flashing or connection with their SGS2 for over 6 months. And just the other day they had a problem so they used a XP 32 bit PC connect ok flashed ok once the phone was rebooted they connect to their Win 7 64bit and the PC saw their handset. So what gives

I have plugged in many different phones and other devices that take their power from the Front USB ports on my PC. Power has never been a problem. Recognising a device can sometimes be a problem (but the same problem happens with the rear USB ports).
I regularly charge my SGSII via the Front USB port of my PC (both work and home). Quite a few of my workmates now do the same because a spare microUSB cable is much cheaper than a good mains charger and also they can back up their phone and transfer files as well.
This worked for me
1. Unplug the USB cable
2. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284# Once the last # is hit, the PhoneUtil application is launched. Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode. The good mode should be PDA. Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA.
3. Plug the USB cable.
Sometimes if you're not using the cord that came with the phone it won't recognize the phone
I had the same problem with my phone but I found the cord the phone came with and it solved the problem

Try turning off your antivirus first for drivers to install. Worked for me.

I have just installed SiyahKernel 2.3 and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits did not recognize my SGS2.
What I did is turn on and then turn off the "USB debug" option. It was off at the beginning but... I did that just in case and...
That solved my problem.
Similar issue
My phone charges when plugged in but won't mount. It worked fine until about a month ago.
I'd similar problem.
My SGS2 couldn't be connected to PC (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit) by USB cable, but it could be connected via Wi-Fi. I found out, that my, however original, USB cable was faulty (could only supply a juice from USB port ). When I used my wife's cable (she's got SGS2 too), everything was fine: my phone connected to PC, Kies v.2.1.0.11112_41 checked firmware and wanted to update, but couldn't do it, because battery was almost flat - I'm charging it now.
Will see tomorrow, however I was able to connect SGS2 to PC via USB cable
Still having the recognition problem, however you can get around it a number if ways. Use Kies wifi to get files to your phone. Use mobile Odin to flash.
Highly recommend to pay the $2 for pro version, that way it will stay rooted.

Guys I'm trying to connect my phone to laptop but phone doens't get recognised in the laptop. The device makes sound and so does the laptop. No pop-ups in either of devices. The phone starts to charge but no option in the notification shade to change the mode of connection though. I've tried with turning on the usb debugging too, but no help.
Laptop pups up an error message later that the "LAST USB DEVICE YOU CONNECTED MALFUNCTIONED. WINDOWS DOES NOT RECOGNISE IT".
Is this falut of my charging port or of laptop? Or windows 10?
I've tried connecting to all other ports and with different cables. My all other android devices connect though. Please help.

I've had this issue with pen drives and my USB port had an issue(short circuited).
Check these :
Try running devices troubleshooter from control panel.
If the phone is charging properly by using the same cable , it's probably an issue with the laptop.
Is it on pie?

Sir I've tried debugging thing already and set the option to MTP. I've run troubleshooter too but windows couldn't identify and solve the problem. I'm guessing the problem is with windows 10. So I've decided to installed windows 7 in a different drive. Maybe that'll solve the problem.
Phone is running on Oreo.
Note:- I think micro usb has four pins. One among them might be a ground pin. One must be for charging and other must be to transfer data. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I had several times repairing phone with broken micro usb connector, it has 5 pin to be soldering on it. 2 for the power and 3 for data transfer. If the cable is fine for other devices then maybe the problem is not from the cable itself. I had an experience like that case before that if the notification from the pc says connected device is malfunctioned, that may caused by when u first time connected the phone to the pc, the device is disconnected when it still trying to instal the driver. When u connected the phone to pc check on the device manager, if u see "!" icon there, then theres the problem, ur phone driver not installed properly, u can try manual instal of device driver from there.
Last usb device you connected malfunctioned. Windows does not recognise it
"USB device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it” always appears in Windows 10 and Windows 8.
And the reasons for the issue contains:
The currently loaded USB driver has become corrupted or unstable
USB drivers need to be updated
USB drive may be entering selective suspend
USB has some damaged files or bad sectors
USB drive has not been formatted correctly
For different reasons, you need to take different measure, but you can directly format it via AOMEI Partition Assistant to solve the usb device not recognize issue.
The USB port itself was damaged. So I got replacement and now the new phone works fine with same laptop. Thanks you all for your replies.
