Cannot connect to pc - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Whenever I plug my G5 Plus to my computer (Windows 10) the phone starts charging but I cannot see it as an external hard drive on my computer. When I slide down the notification's bar there's nothing there for me to choose from regarding usb functionality. I've tried out 4 different usb ports and the same happens all the time. Any thoughts?

Just "fixed" it. I was using a regular usb cable. When I plugged the usb cable that came with the G5 it worked. I plugged it back with a regular usb cable and the issue reappeared. Does anyone know what type of usb cable does the G5 plus come with so I can get more?

Won't recognize USB stick

I can connect my V20 to a Windows PC via USB cable, and transfer files back and forth. I had to pick something on a menu the first time I plugged in the phone.
However, if I plug a USB stick directly into the V20, it does not recognize it, or respond at all. My friend plugs the same USB stick into his V10 and an app pops up and shows the folders.
I'm using a micro-USB to USB-C adapter on the stick to plug into the V20. I know the adapter works, because I tested it when connecting to the PC.
I have searched settings for "USB" and it only comes up with USB tethering.
This is an AT&T stock phone, using the stock launcher. No root or anything.
Any idea how to get the USB recognized on the V20? Thanks.
it might be that the USB host function doesn't work with those adapters. have you tried plugging in a USBC to USB adapter and plugging a flash drive into that?
something like this

I've tried the same thing without success. My note 3 & 4 worked fine. I also had a Note 7 and Nexus 6P and it didn't work with those either.
has there been any advancement on this issue?
Did anyone find the answer to this? My V20 used to boot up a USB stick but just stopped working one day.

USB Type-c port : bugged or broken ?

Hello guys, here is the bug I experience
First of all i'm sure the cable isnt guilty as I tried two different cables, with one of them being new, getting the same result/bug
Whenever I plug something to my usb type-c port, it can ONLY and ONLY charge !
When i plug the phone to a PC, it won't recognize a phone is plugged ! It charges, but I don't have the window where u can choose between MTP, Charging,...
Of course I have enabled : USB Debugging, and switched from "Charge" to "MTP" in dev options
Even the USB otg doesn't work (with "OTG stockage" enabled ofc)
From times to times I could connect the pc to the OP5, but by plugging / unplugging the cable like 20 times... And now it's worse as it doesnt work at all !
It used to work perfectly in the past , is it possible the system can bug to the point this bug appears ? Is the type-c port broken ?
I have the same problem, the USB port can only do slow charging. It doesn't connect to PC/Mac and doesn't dash charge either. Taking it to service center as i'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue with the USB port.
Try downloading OnePlus USB drivers on pc you connected device to. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298966498

MTP should work without those.
No it's not an issue with the drivers. The phone used to get detected fine and would do dash charge properly earlier, it suddenly stopped working.
I visited the service center, they confirmed my suspicion, it was an issue with the USB port module. A hardware issue where some of the pins on the USB module stopped working for reason, and as a result phone wouldn't receive connection from the cable. They replaced the module for me and the phone works properly again.

USB Type-C connection to PC

Hi,
I tried to connect my S8 to my PC using the TypeC <-> TypeC cable came with my Nexus 5x to the onboard Type C connector on my motherboard (Intel Z370). On the phone the battery icon shows the charging sign for a second then disappears, on the computer there aren't any indication of a connected device and it doesn't show up in the file explorer. If I use the Samsung cable and a normal USB A port everything is fine. If I connect my Nexus 5x with it's own cable to the TypeC port it's working fine. I used the Nexus 5x's charger and cable to charge my S8 since I bought it and there wasn't any problems.
Is there something I'm missing or the S8 is not USB 3.1 compatible?
Thanks,
Zsolti

USB connection not detected by Windows 10

Can anyone suggest how to make windows 10 recognize the phone when connected via USB cable?
Latest official android version and USB debugging enabled.
Which cable are you using for connection to the computer? the cable that comes with the phone is for charging only, you'll need a data cable for connection.
Some users have reported issues when flashing or sideloading using a USB 2.0 cable. The cable included with PH-1 is USB 2.0 and is primarily intended for charging. If you're flashing or sideloading PH-1, we recommend using a high-quality, spec-compliant USB 3.0 (or higher) cable.
ive used both 2.0 and 3.0, but never the 3.1 USB C style. never had an issue, but some of the cables look premium and are cheap crap that connect and disconnect on a whim because the pins arent contacting unless the cable is perfectly straight
I'm using this cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N5KL10L/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It is supposed to be a data cable and looks pretty decent.
Are any special drivers required ? ( I have installed the USB driver found on the Essential support page but no dice)
I have those same cables, they are a bit touchy when it comes to staying connected especially in a USB 2.0 port. Make sure you're using a 3.0 port and once it connects, don't move it much. Not a great solution I know but what can you do.
I tend to leave Device Manager open when I install new hardware. It often helps understand the sequence of things. Do you hear the Windows Device Connected Sound? If nothing is showing up there, it's the USB cable
Well.. I got my phone last Wednesday and I just got the issue when I got USB3.0 to USB C cable last Friday. (my main PCs do not have USB-C port)
The symptom is;
connecting USB cable and change connection mode to "file transfer" or MTP, it looked going to connect, but actually failed or disconnected when I tried browse the device or copy files.
After few research, I could resolve the issue.
Here are the what I did.
First, I have to download and install USB driver from Essential home page. (check "Essential Developers" page. I cannot add link here yet because I'm newbie here.)
Second, Now I got connection, but still the connection was unstable especially when I copied big files (about 200~300MB or more). The issue could be resolved after turning on "Disable USB audio routing" option in "Developer Options". (You should enable the "Developer Options" first)
Third, Now I have no problem on Windows PC connection, but I got a problem with Ubuntu 16.04. And I have found the it happens only when I connect it via USB hub. After connecting to PC directly, the issue has gone.
I have no problem on USB connection with my PCs now.

Confusing USB-C behavior (File transfer grayed out, USB debugging prompt never showing up)

Hi,
I have a odd issue. My essential phone refuses to recognize any USB-C connections to computers. I have tried replacing the cable, and have used all forms of cables, but the only one which appears to work is a USB-C to USB-C cable, specifically when connected to a LG V30+ LS998 (frankensteined into a US998) - Using this, I am able to get ADB commands using a magisk module, but I cannot get fastboot commands and, as soon as the phone boots into recovery, the USB connection abruptly dies. Any solution or ideas for this??
To recap -
USB-A to USB-C does not work.
USB-C to USB-C (when plugged into a PC, regardless of OS or USB port spec) does not work.
USB-C to USB-C (when plugged into a phone) does not work, except on a LG V30+
This is the strangest issue I've ever encountered, and I desperately would appreciate any solutions.
