Problem to log on a specific wifi network - Networking

Hi everybody! I've searched for a problem like mine here but I didn't find it, so I'm openning a new thread. I hope it's ok to do that!
I'm having some trouble trying to connect to the wifi network at the hospital I work. I tried to follow the intructions they gave, but these instructions are for desktop computers and notebooks and they have steps that I don't know how to follow in my blackstone. The instructions are the following (for windows XP):
-add a new network with the name: wifiuel
-choose WPA2 autentication
-choose AES cryptography
-choose PEAP access, go to properties and uncheck all options. Also, at autentication method EAP-MSCHAPv2, click on configure and uncheck the option to use the logon's name and password automaticly.
There are a few more steps, but from this last one I can´t go on. When I tap on the properties buton on my blackstone, I get the following warning: "Cannot log on to the wireless network. This network requires a personal certificate to positively identify you."
In case you just didn't understand the steps because of my poor english, here´s a link to them, but this link is for the windows vista configuration (I chose it because it is mainly in english and it has many screenshots, so I think all of you can understand it): http://www.uel.br/ati/suporte/pages/configuracao-wifi-uel/windows-vista-us.php
Any ideas of how I can solve this problem?
I'm runnig Dutty's Leo Holy Grail R0 rom, with WM6.5 and I can log on just fine in other networks.
Thanks in advance!!!

Hi,
just trying to help u.
in your case, maybe you need some sort of certificate like you stated above. Go ask your IT service/help desk on where you can get one.
Or maybe you need to register your device (WLAN Mac address or you need to use fix IP). For this, you also need to ask help from your IT service to register your device to their list, so that u can connect to their wifi network.
Not much help, but u can try them

Oh, thanks, I was going to do that anyway, but I though someone here could help me or indicate some wifi utility that could handle those steps to configure my network.
Well, thanks for your attention!

Moved as not software release...

Hey, I've got some news
I have some new facts to tell you guys and see if you can help me. First, I discovered that when I just ignore the warning that I get when I click on properties, I get another message saying that the server certificate is issued by an unknown autority and it couldn't be validated. Then I finally talked to the support staff at the hospital and they said that they don't use any certificates at all. No personal nor server certificates are needed. So I guess that the problem is with Windows Mobile, which is asking for certificates when they're not needed.
Is there any way to command WM to not ask for a certificate when logging on a particular network, because I believe this could be the solution for my problem!
Thanks in advance!!!

GUIDE: Mac OS X and Cingular GPRS with the HTC Wizard AKU2

I have successfully connected with the Qtek 9100 AKU2 ROM (the latest stable ROM for HTC Wizard) to Cingular via Bluetooth and Mac OS X 10.4.6. Instructions:
1. Pair OSX and the phone. You might need to check the "any device" checkbox on OSX's pairing utility.
2. Verify to OSX that you do want to use that device as a modem (if you don't get that dialog, then you will need to create the Bluetooth connection yourself -- message me or leave a comment if you need instructions and I will reply to you).
3. RENAME the attached iPAQ-GSM.txt to plain iPAQ-GSM (remove the .txt extention using the Finder 'Get Info' dialog). Copy the file "iPaq-GSM" to your /Library/Modem Scripts/ folder. I modified the original script that was floating on the internet for a year now in order to work with Cingular (the original script wouldn't get a carrier signal with my phone -- it needed some small initialization changes).
4. Go to your System Preferences/Network/Bluetooth/. There enter the following:
Service Provider: Cingular
Account Name: [email protected] (case sensitive)
Password: CINGULAR1 (case sensitive)
Tel number: *99# (the *99***1# number that does work with other phones doesn't work with the HTC Wizard)
On PPP options uncheck "tcp header compression".
On the Modem tab uncheck both "enable error correction" and "wait for dial tone". From the modem drop-down menu select the iPaq-GSM modem script.
Then, click Apply and then open the "Internet Connect" application and select Bluetooth from there. Click "Connect" and you should now be connected on the net via Cingular GPRS/EDGE.
Alternatively, you can create a new networking bluetooth connection instead of using the generic bluetooth networking pref panel, but that involves a bit more work -- although I personally prefer it as I have over 8 phones and I need different networking connection names and settings for each, instead of using the default "Bluetooth" one. If you are on the same boat, IM me or leave a comment for more instructions.
Thanks
dude you just made my day. It works perfectly. Thank God for people smarter then me.
Unfortunately, in my AKU2 QTek ROM, the PPP server dies right after I disconnect from the Mac. I have to reboot the PocketPC before I can reconnect my Mac to GPRS.
If anyone knows more, please download the script above and tell us if there is a way to fix this.

hey guys,
just wondering if you've been able to sync your MDA(Wizard) to your mac. and if so, how? also, any luck updating ROMS without a PC?

Change WLAN MAC adddress

Hi,
Where I work I've access to the WLAN with my LPT. The WLAN is configured with MAC address access list.
Is it possible to change the MAC Address of my P3600 to access the WLAN?
Thanks
Sbay
No absolutely not possible. You should let your mac adress added to the network.
hello, i don't see the MAC address in settings and the wi-fi doesn't turn on now.
What can i do?????
Help!
and, as i enter in bootloader, after USB i read in Red: WLAN ERROR.
what can i do??
Even if it were possible to change the MAC address, which can be done for your laptop, your employer obviously has a reason for not having the WiFi open to all who have the WEP/WPA key and circumventing this may well not be looked on favourably. Best suggestion is to register your PDA with the IT department so it works without hacking anything
yah
I do agree with deedee
Did someone find the solution to restore WLAN EEPROM?

I have almost the same problem...
I have flashed WM6.5 ROM, then decided to return to native WM5.0 ROM. In bootloader there was the same error.

But my device was flashed successfully. After that Wi-Fi was dead
Reflashing does not help... Wi-Fi is as cold as a key

Personal certificate

I need to install a certificate for wifi on my university. As you all know PEAP needs a personal certificate. But when i install the certificate it's placed in the base folder and not in the personal folder.
Yes i added the ValidateServerCert to the registery.
Anyone can help?
If I am not mistaken it should be in the base
or it may depend on the certificate
In my case I also need a cer to use my Uni's WiFi and when I install it I find it in the base list
my problem is the certificate seems to be outdated otherwise according to the instruction I had the certificate should be in the base list.
Not sure if this helps, I have a digital certificate which allows me to get onto my work email from home.
I just copied the certificate to my memory card and then opened it through the phones file explorer.
It installed the certificate for me.
I installed the certificate the same way as you. But when i try to connect the router, it says: "you need a personal certificate" and personal certificates are used to identify yourself and base certifactes are not. So i think i need to get that certifacte to te personal folder.
Have you tried via ActiveSync? Saw an option last night, although have no experiences with certs.
Try secureW2 plug-in. (use google to find it)
A common problem is that you need certain root certificates as well- and WM doesn't download/ install them.
There are even networks that you won't be able to connect to using PEAP- like the one my uni uses. Don't ask me for detailed reasons... It's some kind of yet unsolved WM-WiFi-certificate-issue.
i use secureW2 as well at my university... works great

[Q]WP7 + Chevron connection issue

After following the normal guides, this is what I have completed so far using Windows XP SP3:
1) Install Zune
2) Install the certificate file on the phone + regedit the PC
3) Connect the phone to the PC
4) Zune finds the phone and is able to connect
5) Chevron opens, I tick the two boxes, but then errors with 'I am unable to communicate...'
To resolve I have tried:
Ensuring hosts file is not read-only
Delete any entries for windowsphone in hosts file
Put phone into airplane mode
Run chevron as administrator
Disable all A/V and F/W
Disable all network adapters / wireless etc
Can anyone suggest anything else to resolve?
You DEFINATELY need to install Windows phone 7 SDK- i had the same issue, i could resolve it by installing the SDK.
But that can only be installed on windows vista/7 right? Not on XP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914596
excellent, thankyou kind sir. Will give it a go. Apols for not searching hard enough!
ah,
That didn't work. YOu need the developer tools installed before you can install this and that needs windows vista/7 anyway.
RIght, have finally managed to install everything. Still no working
64bit WIN 7
Is the chevron7.exe working on 64bit WIN7 or only on 32bit version?
I give up..
Have installed Zune and developer tools, spent all day on this and I'm no futher. Chevron does not work.
For me too.. Chevron doesn't work.
I have the same problem. I got it unlocked, locked it again and now i can't unlock it anymore

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr mee toooo!!!
How can i : 1)ensure hosts file is not read-only?
2)delete entries of windows phone in hosts file
??
thanks
Hi,
Make sure you don't forget this one:
(you need to close skype and disable network adapter.. hamachi.. wireless.. etc)
windows phone sdk is the Microsoft Visual Studio Express for Windows Phone?
I finally managed to unlock!
This probably won't help the people who can't re-unlock, but the final issue at my end was that I was using a web proxy. The Zune service uses the domain defaults for proxy settings (which, for me, is set to automatic discovery). I noticed with Process Monitor that most http requests from Zune went through the Privoxy proxy on my server. (Which of course, does not know about how ChevronWP7 redirects developerservice.microsoftphone.com to the fake local service.)
After disabling the proxy and rebooting (to make sure the Zune *service* (not the app) picks up the change), ChevronWP7 worked as advertised. Note, however, that I needed to click "Unlock" twice - the first time I got the usual connection error.
I hope this helps someone!
I think that I´m going to have to give up on WP7. At least untill they come out with a better chevron. I´ve been working on this since WP7 first was announce on DFT´s website.

I´ve tried a thousand times.
I had the same problem. I closed all applications that used up the internet, including my web explorer. Then tried again and it worked fine.
I gave up.. however I then used another Windows Vista PC (instead of my windows XP SP3) and all worked fine.
