Shipping in EU: Solutions... ?? - Nexus One General

Hi everyone,
Like a lot of people, I'm totally in love with The N1
I live in Belgium and I'm looking for a solution to have this little baby near me !
First question for those who already have the N1 in their pocket: Can you tell me the exact dimensions of the packet delivered by the postal service ?
I mean... not only the Nexus's box, all the package, also the weight ?
Second question: Can someone send me a Nexus One to Belgium ^^ ? from UK or US LOL, pay for it for sure !
thx in advance
JooL

Check PM

Someone else for answers ?

I would also like the know the dimensions of the box it ships in.

I'm also interested, can you post answers in the topic itself?

I've registered for a USA post address with http://www.myus.com. There you can get an address in Florida. Make sure you fill that address in as your default shipping address in Google Checkout.
After that, find a USA-based proxy server that supports https, fill in the details in your browser's proxy settings and proceed to the Nexus One ordering page. That was all it took for me (based in the Netherlands)
I've ordered my Nexus One on Jan. 6 and I've just been informed that it arrived on my address in Florida. MyUS will now ship it to me in the Netherlands.
Please note that creating an account with MyUS costs $10 initially, and because the address is in Florida, Google will charge Florida sales tax (about $36). Also, MyUS will charge about $60 to send the package to your actual address in Europe.

What did you do with the declared value? Possible to write it down or send as gift? Otherwise it would be cheaper to wait when the phone is released in each country with adherent warranty.

thx for info.
inf act I know the procedure with Borderlinx, same thing that myus
The thing is to jump the hole ^^

No, no tricks with declared value. Just cough up the 19% VAT here in Holland I'm afraid. But we'll see that when it arrives here, probably next week. Total costs including tax in the Netherlands will be about 550 euros I estimate.
Of course it will probably be cheaper to wait, but hey... I want it NOW!

Guys I might have a brand new nexus for sale pretty soon and I am willing to ship it to europe just to cover my costs as I don't want to be stuck with 2 phones.
I am not looking at making a profit just whatever I get charged + shipping to europe.
If anyone is interested PM me.. I should be expecting delivery of the second phone by around wednesday next week.

Of course every individual has to decide for themself, based on the %'s to be paid in their country. I can only talk for the Netherlands, and here it's 19%.

In Norway there are 25% completely ****t

If someone else is interested in sending a Nexus to Belgium... ^^

Just for the ones that are not in the EU (customs duty is 0%).

You can use a service like Borderlinx and and IP changer like Hotsporshield to order your N1 via an address in the US to your address in Belgium or whereever in the world

I just declared mine as a GIFT and the price only $335 USD to avoid paying taxes. This is my first time doing such a thing but I've heard it's common. So hope everything works out, no insurance.

Juse use bongous.com you won't have to pay any sale tax ! They are based in Connecticut.

the "trick" send package with gift mention don't work anymore, or very few times...
too much people used that, now they're watching carefully.
Nevertheless, I hope urs will arrive with no extra costs or duty
I wait for daleski's proposal, I think it's a good thing

Can order 1 more for someone in Belgium (PM for more info's).

Best place to buy Magician in the EU?

Hi,
I'm looking to buy Qtek S100/XDA Mini/MDA Compact in the EU, would love some recommendations. It is really expensive in Sweden, so I thought of buying it elsewhere.
Thanks!

www.blueshop24.de via ebay.
I bought 4 MDA Compacts on 18th Dec and had them in my hand via ups on the 24th in Spain, and they only charged 20 euros for shipping. Highly recommended
Are they Sim-Locked?
I also bought mine at blueshop24. Delivery was next day (I live in Belgium).
My unit is not sim-locked, it worked within 5 minutes with my Belgian sim card.
I did have a German ROM, but that I changed in English (see other threads here).
How about warranty issues?
1) Lets say you get a dead pixel at delivery? blueshop does not have any return policy, so you''re stuck with it.
2) If the unit breaks, do you send it to Germany, or what? Will the repair shop accept sending it back to your country...
Any tips on a store where they accept paying by credit card? Transferring to bank accounts abroad seems complicated.
Well, I finally ordered from blueshop24 trough ebay. After the buy i went trough the aftershop and after that i recieve this mail:
[email protected]:
quota exceeded
Nice, so now I have no clue whether they have recieved my order or anything. Good start.....
In the UK, there is this:

But I haven't tried it yet. I cant find any reviews of the store online anywhere.

I bought my JAM from them - they were great. I used the online store, but also phoned them to check delivery etc. and ask them a couple of questions about porting my number. I got through to them on the phone on two occasions without being put on hold (which was a minor miracle just before Christmas), and I got the phone next day. Very pleased with their service.
I got my JAM with an O2 contract - 200 mins + 200 texts (100 after 3 months) for £25 a month, and the JAM cost around £150 (can't remember exactly
Cheers,
Simon
I liked their prices for the device, But after 3 months on that O2 plan, you will only have 100 mins AND 100 texts per month, though?
Avoid blueshop24
These people ar retards...
In their ebay descriptipn it says that PayPal is available for customers abroad. Nowehere on their website or anywhere is it specified anything more about that.
So I ordered an item, went to PayPal, it broguht up my autcion, I clicked "Pay", and that was it! Thats what I thought.....
After a few days mailing they told me I had the wrong PayPal email for them, and that I had to ssend it to anther email. (Good job from their side letting customers know this fact,t he correct email is not specified ANYWHERE on their website)
So, I cancelled the payment and made a new one. This caused me to go bankrupt since it takes a couple of days for a transaction to be returned to your account, but the new transaction was withdrawn immediately, of course. Anyway, it's still ok, these things happen.
Imagine my surprise when i 2 days later (today) recieve an email that they have received my payment. Great, I though.
BUT, they want another 9 euros because I paid through PayPal., which once again is not specified ANYWHERE on their site. They did have a like to a page "specifying all cost for our customers abroad", but the link was broken, and they wrote the above info in the German part of the email, not in the english. (great thinking) Good thing i know some German.
This is outrageout, I regret shopping from these people. I do hope they with take back the claim for the extra fee, it's not a lot of money, but it is amatter of principle.
Just wanted to tell you that you should be aware of all this if you shop with hem.

Yes - this is standard on the o2 tariffs for all resellers. For the first 3 months you get double minutes and texts. You need to be a wee bit careful, because some websites advertise this as a "200" tariff (and mention in the small print that it halves in 3 months). Others call this a "100" tariff with a special deal for the first 3 months. Either way, as far as I can tell, EVERY website charges £25 for this tariff whatever they call it. For £30 a month you get a 200 tariff (again with double minutes for three months).
Bottom line: all the websites' tariffs are identical, the only difference is the cost of the JAM (as far as I can tell).
Hope this helps,
Simon

Who?
Blueshop24?
I ordered and paid so that they'd deliver it to me the next week (I was in Germany that week). They took 11 days and still hadn't accepted my paypal payment. Now, I was already back from Germany so I clearly wasn't gonna get it as planned.
I cancelled and went with mobilejoker.de (426Euros)
I bought mine from Dustin in Sweden for 4 636 SEK including a 512 MB SD-card. Then of course, there is the lovely 25% sales tax if you buy it privately, which I naturally did not.
Skip
I should have gone with Mobilejoker too, they seemed more serious. Well, you live and you learn
LeSkip: Well the price from blueshop is 4000 SEK including 17% VAT, and a 1GB SD is around 500SEK with shipping from the US, so....
But ten again, if I bought it from Dustin I would have the phone in my hand by now.
It is now (since July 2004) against Ebays rules for a seller to try and charge extra for certain payment services. They either take the paypal hit themselves, or they dont accept paypal.
I have had barneys with a number of UK sellers over this (they dont seem to understand plain english).
I dont know whether this is an ebay rule or just an ebay.co.uk rule though.

Mobilejoker are shipping mine on Monday.
Because I live outside Germany, there's a 39Euro delivery charge (5 Euros in Germany)
There's a 15 Euro Cash On Delivery charge because it cost more for me to transfer the money internationally(£25 from my bank).
Now, with those 2 charges (64 Euros) and a 1GB SD card (65 Euros), it's still costing me less from mobilejoker (£380) than Expansys (£411 )

Nexus One shipped to the UK.

Has anyone on this forum had a nexus one sent to the UK? I am very interested in buying one. How much did it cost with and without the optional UK charger. I am getting it sent tot he north east. Also how long did it take? Also if anyone on this forum came from an iPhone 3GS how did the battery life compare?

Ordered ~ 3pm on Wednesday, it arrived at ~ 9am Friday morning. Ordered early-mid Feb ~ 10th iirc.
374 was charged to credit card (didn't get the UK charger) but yet to have a form through for import from DHL.
Wouldn't bother with the extra charger tbh, they can be picked up cheap enough in the UK.
As above. Mine cost me £373 (phone inc delivery) and my bank charged me £10 for the conversion - total: £383. I ordered it around teatime last Wednesday and it was delivered this Monday. Not got the vat bill in yet.
Didn't get the charger as it was $19.99 + uk vat. I got one for the HD2, from amazon, at £4.95 with free delivery.
Mine (without rip off charger) cost £412 including taxes.
Ordered on a Tuesday eve, received on the Friday.

Yep ordered on a Sunday night, delivered to my work address (about 1.5 hours north of London) Weds lunchtime, cost £384.81 with charger, no tax bill yet.
Battery life compares well with iPhone 3G, Magic, G1, better than Palm Pre with 1400 extended battery. I am planning on getting the dock when it comes to UK stockists for when I'm deskbound at work (I listen to music most of the day), but I've always done so regardless of phone.
Works well on O2 too.
Mine also came at around £410 including VAT. DHL will charge you separately for the VAT, but the bill won't arrive until about a month later. You might get lucky and DHL might not send you the bill, but I'd set aside the money as it seems the very first UK buyers at release were mainly the ones that got away with the VAT.
Even with the VAT inclusive, totalling £410 it's still alot cheaper than buying from expansys.com which is going for £599 as of today with 7 in stock according to the website.
Edit: You could wait another month and get it on contract with Vodafone if you don't want to pay for it unsubsidied. Or preorder the Desire instead on expansys for £439
ordered mine on a Sunday evening, the phone arrived the following Friday morning as it was slightly delayed at customs.
At the time I paid $577 which worked out to be £386 for the phone including UK charger and delivery charge.
I finally recieved the VAT bill this morning quoted at £60.17.
So all in all toatal costs = £446.17
Lol, YMMV...
I ordered two from the US, first never shipped, PayPal refund (direct from seller) after 11 days. Ordered second (different seller) and an empty box arrived three weeks later (express shipping). I believe it was stolen at customs. Under insurance claim.
Third time I just ordered it from a UK seller, +£50 but I got it in three days, no VAT letters to worry about and no customs delays to concern me.
I wish you all better luck than me. Every attempt I made was with an eBay "Power Seller" with good (recent) feedback for the same product.
So you paid £50 more, and it took 3 days to arrive? Might just as well have bought it from Google
There are no customs delays, DHL take it straight through and invoice you for it a few weeks later. At least that way you get a warranty.
@Rusty!:
I'm not sure I understand your point. Google weren't selling it directly outside of the US when I got mine. Or did you mean something else?
There's no way I would have received it from the US in three days anyway, customs or otherwise.
I have a guarantee, direct with HTC for 12 months.
Could you clarify what you meant?

Since this is a 'shipping to the UK' thread, I have assumed you are in the UK. To address your points/clarify what I meant:
Point 1: Google have shipped to the UK since day of release, so dunno what you're on about.
Point 2: I ordered mine late Tuesday, and received it Friday. I think it's fair to count that as 3 days.
Point 3: No you don't I'm afraid. Read the warranty statement, it's first point is that the warranty is non-transferable. HTC already know which Google account ordered the phone, and it wasn't yours.
So what I am saying is you would have been better off in pretty much every way ordering from Google. Still, doesn't matter now can't undo it... both worth mentioning to make sure others get the best deal.
Thanks for the clarification guys, although I wasn't seeking the criticism you so quickly offered!
I'm (ultimately) happy with the course of action I took and the price I paid.
I don't wish to start a debate but you're wrong on the warranty; under law warranty transferability doesn't apply to the retailer/end user relationship, only to end user/end user relationships. As such, the first end user of the device has a 12 month HTC warranty, they can not transfer this warranty.
The retailer doesn't even need to be sanctioned or official as long as they selling original, unmodified goods.

I think I agree (but don't know consumer law well enough..and am no lawyer)
Certainly in Scotland (where I am domiciled) any consumer matter (which a Nexus problem would be) can be handled by the local Sheriff Court if the consumer so desires.
Just because there are clauses in Google's contract doesn't make them right.
Ultimately it will be for a court/judge to decide what the situation.,,
However I'm sure Google & HTC will behave if a professional, competent & legal manner at all times and things would never need to get that far: Aye, right!! (2 positives making a negative..)
Cheers!

Mine originally got charged to work. Still awaiting a personal invoice through (assuming it gets sorted properly) still expecting to pay one in the near future though.
So did mine, had to phone up and winge as they tried to charge me the commercial admin fee, fair play they sorted out a credit pretty quick.
business' dont pay vat on phones to avoid fraud. consumers who go over the personal import levy with customs and excise then have to pay vat as its coming from outsde europe.

I got one few weeks after purchase for around £60.
Nearly 2 months here and I got mine a few days ago. I'm moving out of this house in a couple weeks, any harm in not paying?
Apart from tax evasion i think you should be fine
The first bill DHL sent me they charged me 5% import duty on top of the VAT, so I called them up to have the bill corrected and send me a revised bill. That was a month ago. I have yet to receive my revised bill. So until my new updated bill arrives I ain't gonna pay DHL a single penny.
If you've had a bill and don't pay, DHL will just pass your details on to a recovery agency who will charge you more, take you to court and damage your credit rating. Not really worth it.
If you are still yet to get one and you had it dispatched to work there is a chance your company will have received the bill as DHL will send it to the "account holder" at that address if one is on file. Now your company may have kindly paid it for you, or the paperwork is moving around in circles as no one has any idea why a VAT bill would have been sent to them.
Got my tax bill 3 weeks after delivery for the N1, sent to work address.
About 2 weeks after delivery for desktop dock 1, sent to work address.
Still waiting on the one for desktop dock 2 (sent to home address, ordered at same time as 1).
You really don't want to try and avoid paying if billed - UK Customs and Excise have an awful long memory and a lot of power (rights of entry to property, opening mail to address, etc etc).
Been 3 months now and not received it yet.
We move on 16th April to anew address so I'm not sure how it will stand if it gets sent to the old address.

You could always inform DHL that you're moving.
I had to pay the VAT before they'd deliver my N1, then the confirmation was going to take so long it would take an extra day to deliver, so I went and collected it from DHL's depot at the airport.

A couple of years back I imported some stuff and DHL charged me VAT for it, which I forgot about. They send you a reminder bill (a red bill) a month later if you don't pay. So it's not like they don't give you a chance before passing it on to the debt/bailiff department.

Nexus One Sales Tax!!

We’re writing in regards to your recent Nexus One purchase. There was an issue with the way the sales tax was applied to your order. When your order was placed, you paid taxes on the full retail price of the phone. However, you should have only been charged taxes on the sales price of the phone. We apologize for this issue and wanted to let you know that Google will issue a partial refund for the difference in the amount of taxes you were charged.
The refund will be issued to the debit/credit card used to complete the original purchase. To verify which card will receive the refund, please sign in to your Google Checkout account at https://checkout.google.com and click ‘View order’. The payment information for the order will be listed at the bottom of the order receipt.
If the debit/credit card used to complete your purchase has been closed, your card-issuing bank should forward these funds to your new account or mail a check to you for the amount of the refund.

sooo google charged extra for sales tax;; who else got this email?
I do, can't wait cause i'm broke!!!
Apple would never do something like this, thanks for being so honest Google
well i just calculated it
these are my numbers
8.875% = NYC Sales Tax
529.00 = RETAIL Price
-250.00 = Discount
8.875% of (529.00 - 250.00) = $24.76125
not much of a refund i guess but its good they are being honest...
I got the same email today too
Do you guys live in states with a sales tax?
I got mine forwarded to AUS via oregon, which i don't believe has sales tax. I did not pay any import tax, So i am assuming that at no point did i pay tax for the phone, would that be right? or do they put tax on at the time of purchase?
I paid full price...529 + 46 nys tax.
Im assuming i dont apply.
A friend of mine and I both got that email today as well.
i presume this is for US only? not UK?
thanks
so, this doesn't apply to the people that bought it at full price or does it? i didn't get an email yet...
Got that email yesterday as well. I guess we were too excited to actually check the sales tax we paid?
I looked at the sales tax I paid through google checkout, and then cross referenced that through my bank account, and I paid the correct ammount. Hmmmmm, maybe a global refund of the 20+ dollars?

It wouldn't apply because you paid the correct sales tax. Google was taxing for the full price when people were buying at the subsidized price.

I want to order nexus 7 but in my country it is not available.
The retail market will sold it much more that the google's price... I think about 300 Euro or more. Will live and see...
Well in my case i used tor to access USA Play and change my shipping address to a mailbox on miami.
I preordered from Norway using my mastercard and an american shipping address that acts as a forwarding address to my Norwegian address. Jetcarrier.com. Ads around 25$.

Did you use a norwegian credit card or how did you get a us-one? I heard only cards issued in US, UK and Canada would be accepted.
Thanks
Tried different cards and Visa was not accepted, maybe because Mastercard is a Google Wallet Partner? Dunno, maybe it was just a glitch. Lets see if anyone else manages to order from an illegal location with a local card.
Well tried to preorder but got the unconfortable message stating that the device is not available in my country and that they are doing their "best" to make it possible as soon as they can. Which is I am guessing by the end of the year for 100 euros more in retail store. I'd really like to have the same price and treatment by buying directly from the play store but no official details on that either... That's complete bs. Why make such a global product so restricted for so many areas. my money ain't green enough I guess.
PS: apparently there are no official confirmations for a launch in Europe yet...
i really don't like that. i planned to instantly order one, because i waited so long for a 7inch tablet that's worth the money.
i'm pissed.
EDIT: probably we find some nice guys here at XDA who can buy and send us those awsome tabs? XDA Marketplace ftw?

I Ordered a Nexus 7 (16GB) with a similar Service as runemail. It seems they accepted my Austrian Visa Card.

How? Can you please describe it a bit more detailed? I'm from Austria too and want one.
What were the costs for the shipping and the service?
What will you have to pay in total?

I made an account at Borderlinx, they give you an US-Adress where google will send the device first, then they send it to you. I have to pay 280$ to google, and about 370 total, thats about 300 Euro which is not cheap but ok i guess.
@salv-ice
Yes i used Hotspot Shield.

I guess, but strangely they didnt accept my credit card there.:silly:
For info, I just read on a french tech news site that Asus will distribute the Nexus 7 through it's own network (but no date announced yet) !
So we should find it in stores outside US / UK
