2. Failure story, success finally
I got the Htc Magic mobile about a week ago from a shop gray market in China. This product is still not public here. It has a Sense UI (like the one in Htc Hero). It makes phone call, SMS, WiFi & GRPS. The browser works.
But Google map, Gmail, Google Sync don't work. My mobile has a data plan (GPRS worked). I tried clean Google APP data but the problem is still. I read some posts saying factory reset (is it hard reset?) may work in this situation. I did factory reset when the phone is on inside Setting/Security/..factory reset..erase.. .
Now my phone doesn't work. It displays a screen of `vodafone' in red background, a screen of `Htc magic', a screen of green Android robot and one more screen of `HTC', it also plays the music. After than there is no more, but the screen is lighting for the phone is power on.
The combination keys HOME + POWER, and BACK + POWER work on my phone. So it's not bricked with luck

Somehow I tried apply again. There is no errors this time. And my phone can start with this rom. But the UI is not good; The keyboard is ugly and small, and has no under_line key; The browser title bar is always there, even the phone's been put horizontally; The system bar with signal and battery is always there; ...
4. I want
* can I drop the screen of `vodafone' in red background, and a screens of `Htc magic', and `HTC', just keep the green android screen during start up?
* After entering HOME+POWER, the backgroup shows images with HiAPK.com, can I remove or replace this image or clean the background?
* Do I need to do SPL flash to achieve the above things. Is is safe for my phone to do so? (SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H, HBOOT-1.33.0009 (SAPP10000) )

1. Download View attachment update.Engineering_SPL_HBOOT_1.33.2005_signed.zip
2. Rename file to update.zip
3. Copy to SDcard
4. Use combination keys HOME + POWER
5. Apply SDcard:update.zip

Have been running CM 5.0.7 for a while and then I wanted to nandroid restore to a saved backup of 4.2.15. Everything was perfectly normal (like a few times before), but now when I entered SIM number it froze. I all went down from here.
A few symptoms have arised :
1. freezing @ HTC Magic logo
2. Sometimes get into 4.2. OS but freezes when i insert PIN number on homescreen
3. Sometimes I can get into recovery and sometimes I can't
4. Sometimes it passed HTC logo and started booting android,then turned off display
Now I can't go even into recovery. Fastboot works ok, but when i boot recovery from fastboot (it says it downloaded image OK),phone reboots and NOTHING, almost black screen (greenish,whiteish background).
What do you recommend ? How can I boot into recovery (tried AmonRAs 1.5 & 1.6 , nothing worked, Sapphire version of course)?

P.S. Funny thing is that I haven't been fideling with booting new roms or such, only restore of existed.
It is not boot with "HTC Magic" text on black background and stalled at all. And, I even can not boot it in recover (using HOME+POWER) or in HBOOT (using BACK+POWER) ...
It happened after I flash it with a Google ION radio image following the guide found in http://developer.htc.com/google-io-device.html#s1.
My phone was (before):

What I did exactly is below:
1. 'adb push' the radio image (ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip) into the /sdcard/update.zip
2. In Amon_RA's recovery tool, flashed the /sdcard/update.zip. When got the prompt I reboot the phone using menu.
3. It seems rebooted but stay in another strange screen that I never saw: that is an open box, beside that stands a green adroid robot.
4. I feel the screen stay too long and seemed halt, then I removed the battery and try to boot again.
From now on, in whatevery method, I can only get a dead screen with "HTC Magic" white text on a whole dark screen.
Can I save my phone? I am crying .... What's wrong in my steps?

It's dead fo' shizzle.
I assume it was a Rogers Magic (32A)? I know the SPL says it'd 32B, but I've seen people flash all kinds of crap and end up with hboot showing the wrong board, and I'm pretty sure that's a 32A radio you're running. You flashed a radio image for 32B to a 32A phone... you shouldn't have done that.
Actually I also suspect if it is really a 32B as HBOOT said, since in a recovery flashing process I found Amon_RA's 32A version works but 32B does not. I posted the question in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750307, but no one reply to me! If you saw the thread and see something earlier, my phone can be saved
So, my question is, is there no any solution to recovery my phone any more?

I am a newbie in installing ROMs ,but i followed instructions and did everything needed.I flashed it to 1.33.2005 and installed this Rom "vf_magic_frg83d_aim1_nohboot_s_2.zip" .When installaion finished i pressed Back + Power to reboot ,but then at bottom i read this line "Writing radio.." and the phone gets rebooted . Since then my phone is stuck at Red Vodafone splash screen.I cant get into any mode i.e fastboot or hboot or anything i tried
1.Volume low + power
2.Home + Power
3.Back + Power
I will do anything from those 3 but the phone will not enter any mode ,it will just get stuck on vodafone screen .

You have a PVT 32B board instead of a PVT 32A board. Sorry but I think its bricked.
What manual did you follow? Google did not find this file "vf_magic_frg83d_aim1_nohboot_s_2.zip" even.
Did you try remove battery and place it back and then loaded into mode?

Yea did try removing battery,sim card,sd card .didnt work

If you can not load into any mode - you have a *BRICK*
It's impossible to restore via software methods
Search for repair-shop and ask master about JTAG (it is hardware with ability to flash SPL directly)

I have a HTC Magic which i got from amazon just recently. I'm guessing that its from Etisalat since their logo boots up with the phone. Anyways, I'm have trouble entering recovery mode. After holding the home+power button for it to turn on, it just sits on Etisalat boot screen. I have no idea what to do. :'( On a side note, what do you think would be the best custom rom to install?

I found this thread but it seems the question is still unanswered. My HTC Magic also came from etisalat company (I bought it from Newegg.com in US though). The problem are 1. the phone is in Arabian language and I found no way to change it 2. there is NO Android Market App!! 3. I can't delete or download new applications. All applications the phone has are ones for Arabian people.. like praying app.. !!
I can't find Android Market application.. that's weird, isn't it? This phone is not smart, it's like a dead phone. I can't download apps.

I'm thinking.. should I just replace the phone with the manufacturer? If this phone has been unlocked in a wrong way. Or I should play around with the root and try to upgrade the phone. Most of the comments and instruction online are for T-mobile ones. Seriously, I don't know if all HTC magic (like T-mobile and Etisalat) would have the same hardware.
P.S. I bought this unlocked phone to use with a prepaid sim card without data plan.
Please advice!

make sure your USB cable is working properly, secondly if you where attempting to flash a recovery (it happen with me) sometime recovery won't get flashed properly so phone stuck at splash screen (mytouch logo in your case it might be HTC) then at some corner of screen you get "RUU Mode" in red font, if it is so... then you might need this link, this link contain various list of RUU for 32a board and 32b board. Read carefully inside the link before you proceed.
