Hi people.. as you can see this is my first post in the xda community
i hope that i will not get only responses, like use the search and so on
Today i bought my brandnew hd2 and iam very proud.. but there are some configurations that i have to learn to use.
it is normal that scrolling down the menues is not as fluidly as my ipod touch?
waht programs do you think i should get to start with my device.. best browser ( including flash ) best videoplayer ( 720p would be awsome ) ...
wich is the most current rom.. and how can i improve it in wich ways
guys would be nice if you answer me those questions
best regards, Jur1nator
few suggestions:
1. try to write something informative in the subject field. "newbie help" is too vague...
2. the device is very fluid. try scrolling some other apps.
3. about best program etc. - search the forum! (i really tried to avoid this
4. no use playing 720p - screen res is "only" 800*480
5. ask your dealer for the recommended rom in your area (considering locale, language support, etc.)
6. have fun with your flashy new device!
cheers.

Yes, sometimes the scrolling can be a little slow! but its deffinitely acceptable
waht programs do you think i should get to start with my device.. best browser ( including flash ) best videoplayer ( 720p would be awsome ) ...
the best overall browser in my opinion would be opera ! IE has its benefits but skyfire is best for websites with flash content, as for playing video the built HTC video player is best but is limited to a few formats lilke MP4. third party video players like coreplayer are good for divx
wich is the most current rom.. and how can i improve it in wich ways
these are always changing,
no easy answer im afraid read the stickys and some of the threads in the rom developement thread! to improve the functionality of your current ROM use bsb tweaks you can find it on the themes and application subforum, you will need .net Compat framework 3.5 for the tweak tool to work
guys would be nice if you answer me those questions

Hello everyone, first of all, sorry if i'm not very clear in what i'm gonna write below but i'm french, please forgive me.
To go back on the main subject, i'd like to buy a phone within 2months and i've been reading threads here & there, but i'm kinda looking for a phone that is able to read streaming video (other than youtube).
I was gonna get Samsung i900 or HTC Diamond but Diamond only has 4GB which is kinda of low for what use i'd like to make of it.
So my question is : Is it possible nowaday for any of them to read streaming video ? If so, which one and how ?
If not, is there any Samsung/Htc-like that is able to ?
Thanks for your answers,
Cubia.
The Kaiser / TyTn II has flawless streaming media playback. Works well with youtube, hulu, liveleak, break etc..

i wouldn't say flawless, but pretty damn good for a mobile phone. just about any phone with an internet connection can stream video pretty well though with skyfire (an internet browser) their are programs also.... obviously higher speed internet the better though.
i personally own a kaiser and highly recommend it.
Thanks guys for your advice, but what is exactly a Kaiser ? is it HTC ?

I heard of skyfire but is it possible to install it on any phone that has an internet connection ?
Guess i'll have to change my mind since samsung i900 & HTC Diamond probably won't be able to provide what i'm looking for.
Thanks again,

Yeah, HTC make the kaiser, also known as TyTnII and ATT Tilt.
Great phone. Slide out keyboard, okay battery life, heaps of software available.
Skyfire is currently invite only testing, and has a few 'security' concerns that dissuade me from using it. The latest Opera Mobile 9.5 builds run pretty sweet - comparable to iphone (plus flash works)
Hello to all,
I took the plunge today and despite being very very tempted at getting myself an iphone 3g I decided to get myself a Touch HD. Been spending a few days reading about the Touch HD and it sounds great. Must say I love the look and feel of it, although it's a little on the wide side for my hand.
This is my first WinMo ever and I'm very lost at what to do. I like to tweak and around a mess with my windows installation on my pc, but I just don't know where to start with the Touch HD.
It may sound kind of stupid, but I decided that what's probably best for me is to start this thread (of course after having done a search to see that no other similar thread already exist) and to ask you guys to share some of the things that you first did to your Touch HD when you got it. ie. What are the first few things to do to improve/enhance the experience with the phone.
Thank you all in advance and looking forward to your replies.
PS. English isn't my first language so I apologize if I'm being unclear or if I'm being repetitive.
Grats on the purchase. Where did you buy it from?
That's some fine English for it not being your first language.
Hi, I'm in the same boat as you, although I've had my HD for a few days now. I'm just getting to grips with it, and am now at the point where I feel like I should play around with ROMs. Haven't a clue where to start though, but have had a good read of the wiki.
Good luck with it, and enjoy it.
Welcome to HD world !

As a long-term PocketBreeze user (I assume you know about Today Plugins?) I found the restriction of TF3D to be irritating. If you don't know, TF3D will not allow any other today plugins to run.
But, SecondToday is great - this gives you a second today screen on which you can run any number of plugins.
Also, for me a big help, is AEB+ for mapping buttons.
I also have lots of tweaks to the TF3D setup - see the app list in the thread above.
Good luck and enjoy !

Got my Touch HD ~a week ago, my second Win Mo device.
First I would recommend installing a different rom, I went with Duttys 1.7 rom, my HD got a nice performance boost, the Wiki here explains how to do this.
After that I configured all the settings to my liking.
Installed all HTC Fixes.
Then I browsed the Themes and software forum for the blackstone, after awhile I have these installed on my HD:
- HD Tweak (a must have with the HD imo, customize the HD even further and access lots of other tweaks)
- Advanced Configuration Tool 3.2 (pretty much the same as above^)
- Diamond D3D driver (speed up the graphics for the HD)
- Diamond Saber (fun wnb-a-jedi lightsaber software)
- FInixNOverBatteryIcon (Replace the original battery icon with a color changing one and showing the load %)
- Gyrator 2 (rotate the screen when you rotate your HD)
- IPC Black Dialer (black phone application theme)
- IPC black Calculator (black calc theme)
- MyLostBlog MyStopWatch (great stopwatch software)
- Navigon 7 (GPS navigation)
- Tnyynt SD TuneUP (make the HD faster, can't remember how though )
- TouchResponse (vibrates the HD everytime you touch the screen, very useful)
- Weather Database Editor (add your own city to the weather tab)
+ some theme customization and such
Noticed also some great apps in other posts here, thanks for the tips
Wow this forum is certainly very active and helpful.
Thank you guys so much, I'm going to start working on my HD later tonight after I finish work (yeah it's a Sunday and I still have to work )
@ModernMuseum I'm from Lao PDR and I bought it here in Laos, though from the looks of it I think the phone is actually from Italy or something since the user manual is in Italian (or so it seems) and no English manual at all.
PS. any further comments/suggestions/sharing of experience are still welcome

Please can you give me the link for wiki on how to install duttys 1.7 rom? Will I lose everything that's installed on my HTC HD if I install a new rom?
Also, do you only ever install 1 rom at a time, or can you have more than one? Sorry if that's a really stupid question...
Thank you.

Check out the list of ROMs available if you want something other than Dutty's ROM . There are many to choose from. Also before you do any modifications, install HSPL or USPL if you want to do any ROM flashing, since you can flash as many times as you want, but not have more than one ROM on.
Hi guys,

Hey i want to be a tester.
My Device: Touch HD
My Rom and others: look into my signature, its the original german rom from htc
Skills: I know the registry and can handle with it. Im also a beginning software developer for winmo (c# not vb ). If i will find a bug i would describe it so exactly how i can. File System etc. and errors i can interpretate and there isn't a problem.
A question:
Is it possible that you can change the name or publish an extra version like HD TF3D Config, hmm thats not sooooo good, or maybe just TF3D Config or what else. It's just attractions.
So i would spend my time for testing your software and in the opposite you will test maybe some programs/games from me in the future, if you want.

I know, the name is a problem. When I released the first version of my tool, only the Touch Diamond allready existed. Now there a lot of different devices (Touch Pro, Touch HD, etc.).
But on the other hand, the name of the tool is known from everyone. More than 200.000 to 300.000 users are still using my tool. If I rename my tool, noone knows that it is the same application ;-) I think the name of my tool is not the main feature of my tool ;-) So it doesn't matter how it is called.
By the way: A short comment to the video is welcome (about the new gui. if you like it or not).
i can also test it on my touch hd with on different roms. new and older manila.
I'll like to join the beta test team as well.
Device: Diamond Rom: Dutty Diam V4
I have no problems editing registry, locating manila files and minor editing them. I also have good knowledge of various graphics editing softwares.
if you still need a beta tester for the HD I will be glad to help you dude
I'm using the dutty rom v1.9 and I will flash this night with the lastest V2
And BTW, the new GUI is really awesome !!!! Nice job
edit : I'm working in a helpdesk (for airbus, as well), my skills are computer science technician since 15 years now, I'm not really good at programming (because I don't like it), my skills are network analysis, etc...
I've already helped some guys here, as beta tester, like Fingerkeyboard, WVD, the new MWC3 from Marshall that is coming and others... I've also been beta tetser for some ROM cookers and on my free time, I'm also a designer

2. The fact that you will share your Touch Controls is very cool, but will it costs something? I think a bit is ok but not so much. I believe the whole high costs of software-developing "helpers" weaken the quality of software of the "new generation" of touch and so on.

First I developed those Controls just for my tool, but then I saw that those controls will give developers new possibilties to create new cool finger-frindly application for windows mobile, because there are still just a few apps which are finger-frindly. The price for the controls stands on the website, and I think the price is fair. Because developers will get updates (incl. new controls), bugfixes and support by e-mail and mirabyte-forum. This is very important for developers.

Simple question.
I've read about the new features of the 3rd version of Touch Flo (on the upcoming HTC Touch Pro 2 and Diamond 2) and they are quite interesting.
I just wondered whether by any chance this new version could be installed on the HTC HD (once it's out of course)
Thx

well... i always do my home work before posting, that is why i did ask question...i could not find any cab, and believe me i spent hours looking throughout our gigantic forum...

There is no "cab" install and there never will be.
This isn't just an application you install on your phone - it's a complete system overhaul, with new TF3D, with all new and / or updated system applications: phone, calendar, contacts, call history, calculator, browser etc.
Let me illustrate however the difference between the stock ROM and the custom cooked ROM's available here on XDA. It's like going from Skoda to latest Ferrari.
That means you'll get a lot of great looking stuff, many cool applications already included, everything will be as new as possible, you'll be running at MUCH faster speed, but you also have to accept that you'll "burn more gas" - battery life may take a small impact.
Is it worth it? Well, it's like you bought a new device, so - yes.

If you flash a ROM that already includes the new manila it will probably be alot smoother because the ROM will be optimized and tweaked for it! If you install it over the old Manila it probably won't give you the best experience... Also, the newer ROMs not only include the new Manila, but also things like finger-friendly menus!
really is that true???

I'm pretty new to all this as well and had a lot of difficulty figuring it out! What I think happens is this: The ROM is a bit like the BIOS so you can't modify it within WM6.1. Also, the original ROMs are protected so you can't replace them with an unofficial version (they are signed).
To get around this, you can use something like Hard SPL (which overwrites the existing ROM) or USPL (which works around it).
I finally went with USPL2.5 and Dutty's extreme ROM v2.6.
Incidentally, I'm not really noticing much of a speed improvement... Especially with the music player which now takes a second to load up... Am I meant to?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APCuWaqIx14&hl=iw
how did they do that??
look in the touch hd when they open opera and switch tabs, on my touch hd it just flushes the screen without any of those effects.
(srry about my english im not a native speaker )
thanks in advance
This video is quite old. At the time there were few pre-released blackstones available for review with experimental Opera version. AFAIK this version did not leak to Internet. According to reviews that version was very unstable and couldn't render many pages.
im not talking specificly about opera,
look when he closes applications and swiches tabs,
there is an effect of the window appearing, and i dont have it.
my question is how did he do that.
I see what you mean and I think this effect is implementetd in tf3d and not realy an extra ... but I am even interrested of getting it
of course its built in the tf3d, but i want it so if anybody has it just give the link~
yeah but i don't think that it could be extrated ... or do you want such an old version of tf3d just because of some effects ?
i thought to get another rom version, maybe duttys..
actually not duttys.. somethin better than this one and faster than this one...
