I seem to be having a problem connecting to wifi all of a sudden, its been working fine upto a few days ago, wifi switches on correctly and it displayed my connection but it doesnt connect, i just get the egg timer circle going round continuously and no green tick appears. (I've tried on other peoples wifi signals but same problem exists)
All the settings are the same so theres no reason i can see for it suddenly to stop working.
turning the phone off and on doesnt resolve the issue.
So really im asking if anyone else has had this problem and how they fixed it.
The only way im thinking it might work is doing a hard reset but dont really wanna lose all the info etc on my phone (i know this can be backed up etc) Wondering whether i should just wait till the release of the 1.6.1 rom that been rumoured and do it all then.

I've got exactly the same problem mate. (There's a thread a couple of weeks old where me & 1 other guy were chatting about it.)
Mine worked fine and then just stopped one night. I hadn't installed anything, or had any other connection issues. It just stopped working.
I've not been able to get it working since.
To be honest, I'm waiting for a newer official ROM so I can flash with a reason, rather than simply hard reset for this 1 issue. I get "unlimited" data (3GB cap), so it's not that big a deal for me.
I'd love it if a solution was found for this problem, but to be honest, I don't think it's a widespread problem - no-one joined in the last thread, so that makes 3 of us now
I'll still keep my fingers crossed for a solution though.
Same problem. Mone was new and wifi stopped working all of a sudden . thought that might be due to some software i installed. peculiarly, when i hard reset my phone ,it worked .only to stop again after a few hours and that to w/o any software installs. After talking to the service provider, concluded that trhere seems to be a hardware or software problem. keeping my fingers crossed that it gets solved soon.
I have similar problems when I deactivate the cellular radio prior to shutting the phone down completely. Wifi stays activated. If I turn it on again Wifi won't ever connect to any network. I first have to re-enable the radio turn wifi off and on again. Then it will usually work.
Bad bug!
My wifi is also not working
Around 19dec I posted a thread about my broken WIFI connection. (hthttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=603148)
Still no solution and also waiting for a ROM update instead of HARD reset.
WIFI RESOLVED (for me anyway)
I think theres a few of these post on this forum now, but as i started this 1 i will put my answer on here.
Bit of history, i didnt have any issues with wifi but all of a sudden it wouldn’t connect and all I got was the revolving circle instead of a tick.
Last night I was checking some settings and changed something and all of a sudden I got the tick and my fast wifi back.
On the screen where you see your wifi networks, select Advanced and then whilst on the main tab select “Change network” (located just under the SSID) this should take you into the windows based screen instead a htc sense style.
Select the “network adapters” tab at the bottom, then select “edit” (bottom left).
The screen should now showing ip address “use server-assigned ip address” and “use specific ip address” .
This was set to “use specific IP address” I changed this to “Use server-assigned IP address” and it worked.
I don’t know if this will work for everybody or how for some reason it changed itself, but give it ago theres nothing to lose.
Let me know if you have or dont have any joy with this
I think there's a conflict between the wifi router and using wifi. I never had any problems until I used the wifi router, and then my wifi simply wouldn't work.
I had to start the wifi router and then set it to “Use server-assigned IP address” (as above post) whilst the wifi router was on and ready to accept connections. After a restart it was working again.
Strange problem, but I suppose a confilct makes more sense the it just not working!

it was on use server assigned option for me already. i have two workplaces and this problem is so erratic that it has a mind of its own as to when to connect to which one. no solution as yet.
no solution yet i guess??
Anybody ??
similar problems here too, dno how exactly to fix it lol
Any resolutions yet? I just found this thread after posting in this one. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi guys. If you don't remember me - here's my story in a nutshell. I got a 8525 about a week ago. Since day one I tried and tried and tried but never managed to get the wifi working... (as you can imagine I am beyond desperate at this point)
Anyway last night I got thinking and decided to give it another stab. I hard reset, messed with the settings again...and this time manage to get a little further. My phone is now showing me as "connect to network", only problem is I get a message saying "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change connection settings, tap Settings." each time I try to access anything internet related. I know I'm close especially since I'm actually connected now, I think it's just AT&T's rom doing everything it can to get me to use their networks (I'm on T-Mobile and don't have a dataplan anyway...).
Anyway can you guys think of what the problem might be? I'm so close I can taste it! Thanks.....
Bump... Anyone home?
where did you get your 8525? my wifi on my 8525 works perfectly fine, have u tried upgrading to WM6?
I have WM6 already. I got it off ebay. Everything is perfectly fine with it, it just doesn't want to use the wifi connection to get online.
Try a hard rest.
my 1st 8525 i got off ebay, and it worked great up until a few weeks ago, when the screen stopped functioning it just turned white, i called AT&T and they sent me a new 1 i just got it this morning and now, i cant make calls >.> it will ring then my phone will say i have no service when i have full service and the call will end. but my wifi is fine... did u use the WM6 upgrade that was released by AT&T
No thanks re: the hard reset. I've already done that... If I can't figure this out I'm going to sell my phone and steer clear of ppc phones. I like it, but I bought it for wifi and this is just getting ridiculous. I have tried everything. I've spent hours and hours on this. I've reset my router god knows how many times, played with security settings, reset my phone over and over to start over.....
The worst part now is that I know it's connected. The wifi aspect is fine. It's just the stupid phone not wanting to use the wifi connection for the internet.
Maybe someone with a 8525 and a Linksys router can post ALL of their wireless related settings for me.
Ekh
Yes I used the AT&T update.....
i use wifi and my linksys router, the 8525's range isnt that great u need to be within a few feet of the router to get good reception, im about 30 feet from mine and i get 2 Wifi signal bars and an ok speed. but try this
Start > Programs > Proxy Manager > Disable Proxy
then try to use your wifi, then go back and restore the proxy when your done, i think some 1 told me to do that because att uses that so u can use their internet service or sumthin
Thanks but I'm way ahead of you. I've already tried every piece of advice I've come across on xda. My last hope is someone elses detailed settings.
is your network passworded by a WEP or TKIP ?
It's WPA... My device has the password, and I added the MAC to my router table. It's connecting to the router/wifi...
...it's just that my device won't use the connection
* Sigh * Looks like another one of my please help me posts has gone dead...again...

Your problem may be one of the following:
1. The wifi connection is specified as connecting to "work" and programs are set to use an internet connection.
2. The wifi connection is specified as connecting to "internet" and programs are set to use a work connection.
Nope that's not it. But it does remind me of something so thanks. I deleted all the connections seeing as I don't have a dataplan... I made a new connection called "Wifi". BUT, it's not like I can specify any connection for it so it's just blank (no connection specified). By this I mean the options for a connection are:
bluetooth, cellular line, cellular line (GPRS, 3G), Generic IrDA, Hanes...COM1. No option for wireless...
Does that help?
Check that your router is set to allow connections by devices with 802.11b, which the Hermes uses. Most default to 802.11g only.
It's set for b and g
Helloooo...?
Hallelujah!!!!!
People, I have WIFI!!!
Thanks to everyone who tried to give a helping hand... It's really appreciated.
For future reference to those who are suffering from the same problem - this is what seemed to fix it... I entered google into IE via it's IP address rather than it's name (open command prompt, ping google.com...). To my surprise the page quickly loaded. I then instantly realized that the problem was with the DNS settings. I opened up "Wi-Fi" in settings, went to the "Network Adapters" tab at the bottom and entered in the DNS addresses for "IEEE 802.11b/g...". If you need help with this just PM me (I consider myself somewhat of an expert on this topic now).
I thought I was never going to get online. There IS a god!
Lately I have been reading many post related to Wifi problems in the HD. I had the same. Even I was very near my router I couldn't connect to the net and the signal was very weak.
So I entered my router configuration and I found a solution.
Before, for security options I had: WPA-PSK [TKIP] then I changed to WPA2-PSK [AES] (of course you also have to change your HD connection configuratoin), and now it works great¡¡¡¡
Now I have all the bars for the signal and I can connect very easily.
Hope it works for other people
I have a similar WiFi connectivity problem, but after reading of the poor service provided by most vendors and HTC itself, I will try to gather some more experience with the problem before I contact HTC or my vendor, and hopefully find a solution. Bellow is my experience so far:
I own an HTC Touch HD since January and have a similar problem, only it surfaced last week. Before I had only used the WiFi connectivity briefly. The problems started after I installed an AP on my house expressively for the new PDA. The node is fully open and set to B/G/N protocols.
After a couple days of medium (couple hours per day) use the WiFi connection suddenly quit, the device would try to connect (the top bar showing the WiFi connection animation continuously) and after a few moments gave up with a dialog box stating the current network settings were wrong (even thou they worked fine a few hours earlier).
I tried several hot and cold resets, but only solved the problem after flashing a new ROM; even then the same symptoms reappeared after a couple of days of regular use. Again no re-setting would cure the problem, and now not even flashing the ROM again would work. Nonetheless, some hours latter the WiFi would connect perfectly with the same nodes it refused to before, and in very short time.
I have witnessed this cycle twice and have yet not been able to find a trigger for it, but will keep my eyes open for any tell tale signs, and post any findings here.
I could add to the above mentioned problems.
i got a new hd just few days back.
The wifi worked great. But now it doesnt.
I have disabled wifi, so can start it whenever i require.
I click on wifi button to enable it.
Then open opera, try any website.
it will open fine.
For instance say my email at gmail.com
Now after that if i try to open anysites or even continue with my mail, it shows error saying connection not available.
One of the workaround is to go back to toggele wifi off and switched it on.
Not sure if anyone faces a similar issue.
I's been about a week since my last post and I have already witnessed a couple of cycles of WiFi connecting perfectly and then not connecting at all.
No matter the settings I try after it decides not to connect, it won't. Even to nodes it had connected perfectly and fast jus minutes before.
I thought re-flashing might help but so far has proven ineffective. Once I thought some part of the non-volitile memory was causing the problem since after I cleared the memory I could connect for a while.
Any thoughts anyone?
Same problems here.
For the last hour I have been reading 10ths of threads here concerning WiFi problems.
My HD's WiFi worked fine on my home and outside for about 2 months. Now it doesn't. It reports connection, but no program can use the internet. At best, it seems to be able to exchange some Kbytes the for just a few seconds after a connection is established. Then nothing. Connected but unusable.
Tried everything Internet/My Work/My ISP, WAP enabled/disabled, soft/hard reset, everything.
When connected through ActiveSync everything works fine, all programs see internet.
Has anybody taken their HD to the service? Has any HTC service worldwide identified the problem as hardware and solved it by replacing something?

I have just encountered a similar problem, but already used wpa/wpa2 with aes. Have tried a hard reset with no joy. My old HTC Touch has no probs connecting via wifi nor does my laptop so I would surmise that the prob is with the HD and not the router.
I am going to try flashing with the latest version of Duttys 6.1 rom and see what gives.
Edit: Tried flashing with new rom with no success. Take a look at this post.

There are a couple of files to download but i only used the second ie this one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1363759&postcount=2
Now no problems and can connect via wifi no probs, ip address assigned by dhcp.
Try to go into WiFi settings and move the power slider to max performance. I need to do it here to access my router. This happened also with my HTC TyTN II, with any recent radio firmware. The original WM 6.0 ROM and it's radio work fine in low power mode, but the new ones appear connected but are always at 1 Mbps and there's no traffic until you move the slider to performance mode.
You go into WiFi settings and you configure manual IP and DNS so as router.
DNS is important.
Whit manual configuration, Wifi work always.
(sorry for my english)

This is not a solution. I didn 't buy the device to be able to connect to my home WiFi only. What about public hotspots? Or hotels? Or whatever outside your home?
Fresh flash of WM 6.5 over radio 3.42.50 on a Titan. Under Network Management, I've selected that "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:" My Work Network, since I don't have a data plan. I go to Wifi settings, select Add New, put in the ssid, click through the security settings (temporarily disabled for this test purpose). My network shows up as "Unavailable". (I'm standing right next to the router). I click "Connect", it says "Connecting" for a couple of seconds and then goes back to "Unavailable".
What should I check first? I'm at my wits end.
You shouldn't have to "add new", your ssid should be automatically discovered and displayed in the list of wifi networks.
Did you connect to a wifi with your phone before, or is it a first attempt ?
Yes, I'd been connecting just fine until a few weeks ago. In fact, the refusal to connect was what prompted me to flash the thing -- figured that starting over might help.
So, your wifi connection was working well, but suddenly, for some obscure reason, it stopped working. Therefore, you decided to reflash your phone, but it didn't help, still not working.
Is that correct ?
I know I sound like a complete doofus, but yes, that's basically it. The weirdest thing is that every once in a while it'll find a wireless network and connect. But the connection never lasts for more than a few minutes, and then when it's gone the network is "Unavailable". And to anticipate your next question: There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for when it works. At this point I'm thinking I'll pick up a used Titan or Vogue on eBay and junk this thing.
Did you try a different rom ? Could be a faulty rom.
I've tried several different roms, yes.
this happens in some roms...
go2 wireless lan settings and then go2 power mode.change it to best perfomance frm best battery
Does anyone else have this problem?
My home WLAN is hidden, it doesn't broadcast it's SSID. I've never had a problem until maybe the last week. Now my phone won't connect to my WLAN (or any other hidden WLAN that I had connected) until I reboot my phone. Once I reboot BAM it connects right away.
In all likelihood it might have something to do with my custom rom. Guess I should get cracking on a v3 with the latest OTA anyway...
I had this exact same issue a while back I while using a flipz rom.. one version of flipz it connected to my hidden network no problem the next minute it refused to connect I never got an answer so I just gave up
hopefully someone can shed some light on this because it has been bothering me for a very long time
I don't know about routers that have WLAN configured on hidden mode, but don't you guys have an internet provider service for your home and could maybe work if you tried looking for your/their router provided Homepage Login details on Connections/Frequencies/Settings? I don't know much to say but this is maybe an idea, because I had a router with SBCGlobal Internet Services from AT&T on my home lines and we have the top tier DSL service including hidden lines for using the internet as in internet ip addresses, so I'm just saying I could connect with the key included but I don't necessarily have your problem per say, maybe it could be the router or WLAN itself to be reset settings on it for a reboot maybe and it might work, maybe not.
Sorry if my reply fails. I thought of this upon thinking from myself in my head.
I use my own router, not something provided from the ISP. The same thing happened with my father's router over the Thanksgiving holiday. I connected to his network fine after I configured it, but the next time it wouldn't detect it. It's definitely the phone. Guess Jiminy v2 isn't perfect Back to the drawing board!
Hi, I recently bought a 16Gb DVP on WinMo7 and for three weeks had no Wifi problems at all. It recently stopped finding my home WiFi router. It finds both neigbours routers but mine is missing from the list.
I then got an update notification for the Mango update which I competed. the router didn't return in my list of networks immediately but about two days after.
It has now dissapeared again but 'Mango' has the added 'Advanced' button to see 'known neworks'. My home router is in this lst but I cant access the settings or force any paring.
I've tried the obvious of turning it off and on. I've reset my router, reset my phone back to a clean boot of windos 7.5 (mango) and still no results for finding my router. All the other phones in the house and all laptops find it fine so I can only presume it is the DVP.
Details:
OS version - 7.10.7720.68
Firmware Version - 2250.1800.7720.219
Don't know if this helps.
Does anyone hav any idea why and what I can do to resolve it.
thanks
Jock
Try changing the SSID (name of your wireless network) to something else and see if your DVP can see it and make sure the SSID is not hidden.
Thanks, tried that last night. No luck I'm afraid.
On the router admin now and It's all as it should be fom my service provider settings.
I have a full signal of my neighbours router and just don't understand why it's chosen mine to not even find. When it appeared last time it was after turning the router off all night. I tried that again last night but it didn't appear this morning when I turned it back on.
Confused !!!
Jock
have you been able to connect to and maintain future connections to other wireless networks? if the same problems happens with other networks, I'd run a factory restore on your phone as it seems there might be a software issue. However if you can connect and then are able to re-establish a Wifi connection to other networks then I'm stumped!
I've just changed the SSID to something completely different and it's appeared and I'm now connected again.
All I can say is that it connects to the router for around a week and then the network dissapears.
Short of changing the name every 7-10 days I can't really see another resolve.
In answer to your other question, I haven't really used it on other networks.
I'll see how it goes with this new name.
Thanks for all your help and suggestions
Jock
After reading other posts, this might be an issue with the .219 firmware that you are on. Just keep checking for updates. You could try a hard reset of the phone and then a reboot of the router
Also make sure your router is set to either B or G mode. Check my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324949
Thanks, I did a hard reset when it first went off, still found nothing when it re-booted. I'll keep an eye out for the firmware update.
Thanks again.
My phone just started doing this as well. Very frustrating as I cant download large updates and I dont want to exceed my data cap. I am totally fed up with this phone!
Fixed. Called Dell. Long press network name. Press delete. Press network name when it shows again. Reenter password. Works!
