I have unlocked my tmobile phone but I cannot change the connection settings which means it will not browse the net etc with some other sim... Is the only way round this to flash the rom? QMAT crashes on Windows 7, so that method is not a go-er.
Anyone have any ideas please?
BTW, I think I posted in the wrong forum b4!! In ROM Dev. Sorry!!

I'm new to this forum and it seems like a great resource. I have seen this question answered but the answers are still above my head in terms of complexity. I've got an AT&T branded SX56 running 2002 and an XDA-Developers ROM (I think). It is unlocked, I am guessing through the use of an XDA Developers tool for unlocking. I'm in Colorado and using the phone with T-mobile. My question is this, I'd like to upgrade to 2003 and have downloaded the file to do so from Siemens website for free, which is great. It had some nice enhancements and I thought I'd upgrade to it. So, I downloaded/installed the new ActiveSync v3.71 and then tried to run the upgrade. I got the same message many have gotten apparently saying that the ROM Image is not compatible. The specs are;
current
Model PW10A1
ROM 3.17
English
upgraded
Model PW10B1
ROM A.30
English
In reading through the posts it seems that I need to upgrade the ROM of the device, but I still get lost looking at "cooking a ROM", etc and what exactly I need to do. Making this a little more urgent is the fact that after I tried to upgrade the phone (which gave me the ROM error) my internet connection on the phone (which was working fine) suddenly doesn't work with explorer or outlook on my phone giving me an error "Trouble Connecting; Unable to connect with current settings" even though I didn't change the settings and they look exactly as they did before. So, I feel like I've messed something else up on the phone even though it didn't get to install the whole upgrade.
So, any advice for a novice? Thanks in advance, I appreciate any help you can give.
Best regards,
chefandy
the official AT&T release for WM2003 is an exe file contains both ROM & RSU upgrade, and it aparently designed for PW10B devices (900/1900 MHz).
i think the first part of the faulty upgrade (usually RSU) affected your device ... i really hope not
chech your device info and tell us what's there. if u can still get to the boot loader screen and activesync can still connect to the device, then it's not a severe damage. I think successful RSU upgrade with the right stack would solve it.
I'm not sure what the boot loader screen is, but the device still syncs just fine and seems to be working ok except for the internet connection issue. The funny part is that I can connect to the GPRS connection by going to the connections screen, but then when I transfer to Outlook or Explorer they do not recognize the connection as something they can use.
Is the Siemens upgrade I downloaded (http://www.my-siemens.com/MySiemens...C%2FMC%2FSX56POCKETPCPHONE%2Fdanda%2F,00.html) different from the AT&T upgrade you mention? I also saw there was a T-mobile upgrade to 2003 but it was not available when I tried to download it from tmobile.com. Thanks!
That's great! .. ... It seems I misunderstood your issue ... I thought you lost the RSU part.
I think something wrong happens to the registry values ... you see, there is a reference for each defined connection in the registry which all applications that may require to connect to GPRS or WAP or MMS can refer to.
I suggest that you delet ALL connections and start the setting from scratch ... I can't guarantee it will work since some applications may be required to be uninstalled and reinstalled to use the new connections references (if it has smart uninstaller!!).
The last resort is a hard reset which will bring the registry to the original setup.
Well, I did what you suggested and started with a new connection and it worked  Thanks!
Now I'm back to the original question about whether or not I can safely upgrade to WM2003 or not? Thanks again for all your help.
The answer is YES! ... it's easy to upgrade ur ROM to WM2003 if u know what ur doing.
spend some time reading this forum on how to cook a new ROM from the kitchen ... and it's better to get yourself SD card for flashing and backup.
Hi to everyone
I have an xda (i believe its a wallaby) modelpw10a1 ram64mb. I want to unlock the unit, but have no idea where to begin.... i did follow peters advice for unlocking an xda 2 via the cradle/activesync/disable usb port method but nothing happens (apparently windows should recognise new devise)
is there a program i can run to unlock the xda1?
Another thing - i have just moved abroad to Thailand, the local gsm network here is very good so it shouldnt make any difference once it is (hopefully) unlocked?
Thasnks in advance

Stefan, thanks for the link. The problem now is that when i click on the link, i get a 'authenticode' warning pop-up that stops me from downloading it.... licsence could not be found etc etc.
Any clues?

Sorry, its the above link that wont let me download.
the link works just fine for me
Frustration
I managed to get the unlocking file, and copied over to my xda... but the first thing it says when i open it is 'error getting the unlock code'
Is there another file i can use? Am i using the wrong one?
tried this one?

Massive frustration!
I cant believe how hard this is. Have been on it all day! Everyone else on this forum seems to be unlocking easily, am i doing something silly here?
Thanks for the latest link Rudegar, but im having the same problem - it wont open. On clicking the link, Im asked the usual ''run file from current location or save to disk'' either one gives me the following error message;
''the publisher cannot be determined due to the problems below.....''
''authenticode signiture not found''
''access to the specified device path file denied''
So in short, i cant open it.
My friend sent me the XDAunlock zip file, i transfered to my XDA but it came up with
''error unlocking sim''
So thats obviously the wrong file for my XDA...
I read that the XDAunlock only works if it has the wireless feature? How do i find out if i have wireless or not?
Sorry for sounding so clueless here, but really i am not to sharp with this sort of thing. Ive allways used my XDA happily till i moved abroad, now im buggered if i cant unlock it!
Someone please help!!!!
i think the link i just gave to the allinOneUnlock thingy requires to be run from the pc while the xda is connected to activesync
tried that
Rudegar, appreciate you sticking with me here...
No, its not a question of the cradle being connected or not im afraid, i tried that allreeady with both the cradle connected and also disconnected. It just wont have it, im totaly lost!
by cradle do you mean that you have tried with
the xda connected to activesync as in being connected after the sync is finished ?
or have you tried the xda connected but activesync not connected ?
have you tried another sim card to make sure it's still sim locked ?
and instructions on how to install develope) thnx rs special rom please\(have looked and cant find it anywhere} have found rom but instrcutions
not sure what you are asking do you want to make your xdaII do 3g/umts ?
if so then no it's a whole different tech so much like you cant turn your radio into recieving tv channels sound
you cant make a 2G device use 3G signals
or maybe you are asking to get cab files for preinstall gprs, mms and wap settings
or maybe you are asking how to change those settings on your device
hi i was wondering if it was possible to turn it inot a 3g phone , but then i saw the worlds first 3g phone is the xda exec, m8ty do u know the procedure i have to follow (instructions) on how to install the special developers rom, i cant find the intructions anywhere
the special eddition rom is only for wallaby devices(xda1) and it's far from the latest wallaby rom at that
click on wiki in the upper left corner and click on himalaya
and read how you flash a new rom on it
then click on wiki and clikc on the ftp guide page
go to the ftp and pick a rom of your choosing
and happy flashing
universal is not the first 3g phone it's the first windows mobile phone with 3g
I know thta there are a few threads on this and I have searched and tried the links etc. I can not get this thing unlocked at all.
I followed the unlock wiz and downloaded the files. When I tried to run them it kept telling me that the mda was not connected properly. I know it doesn;t work when through a hub so I tried eveery single on fo the usb spckets on the back of my pc and got the same results every time.
I only want to be able to use an O2 sim card in this device, although all the other rom upgrades look good I don't really need them.
Can anyone help?
Cheers
The HD2 is unlocked on on the ATT netwrok already How do I install the medianet cab files? I downloaded them to my laptop was I supposed to download them directly to the phone? Can someone please direct me to how to do this. its greatly appreciated. I would appreciate all tips and tricks to get this working the way it should be on ATT also what is the flash rom? yeah call me a new jack...lol It was a long time waiting for this phone in my area.
Yea dude, it is no problem, you should have gotten a cable to connect your phone to your computer, when you connect it it will be in the My Computer area of your computer. Then just drag and drop the .CAB file on the SD card of the phone, and then disconnect your phone from the computer. Go to your SD card from your phone, and run the .CAB file. It should work. I have had to do the same thing. Feel free to ask if you have any problems.
