Sorry for posting this but I have followed threads relating to this problem but they don't tell you how to do it.
I have had a problem with installing Tom Tom ....basically it screwed my Bluetooth.
The fix for this is to Rename/delete BtSdkCE30.dll although mine is showing
BtSdkCE50 and delete/rename BtCoreIf.dll
Now I have managed to rename BtCoreIf.dll but i don't get any option to rename/delete BtSdkCE50.dll. Can anybody tell me how this is done
Apparently you also have to do a soft reset afterwards
Download and install Total Commander. It's freeware and will solve your issue.

That page makes most people double-take and go "uh?"
You need the ARM version (the one that's labelled "Most users will need this version!").
Windows installer or CAB installer is your preference.
Same problem on my HD2
Tried, Windows Explorer, Resco and Total Commander.
I don't know what to do now...
Have you tried from you computer with Total Commander or similar?

To be honest, I don't know what the criteria is for this, but I've had stuff that I couldn't delete before. It was all in the Windows folder - this I know for sure. I've never had a problem overwriting files though, even though I couldn't delete them!
I'm sure there's a sensible reason for this, but to me, you shouldn't be able to overwrite a file that you can't delete in the first place!
So, in short, there are some files that you simply can't delete.

I'm new to this site and the ways of fooling with the details of this phone. I have an HTC Mogul 6800, WM 6.1, through Sprint. I am trying to install some "iPhone" type software and am stuck almost at the starting point. I'm trying to copy this file
welcomehead.96.png
into the /windows directory on the phone. Since that file already exists on the phone, it would appear that it needs to be overwritten. It won't overwrite as that file on the phone is marked as "read-only". How can I edit that file to remove the "read-only"
thanks
Why not just move the old file to another directory?
I believe you're trying to change the splash screen? Apparantly that file is locked as ROM file and so overwriting may not be possible. Why don;t you change the registry value to point to a different file? Refer this Splash Screen changing guide.
Preffered Registry editior: Free PHM Registry editor
Regards,
Carty..
The file is Read-only, so I can't move it. I tried installing the PHM Registry editor, it thinks it's a Microsoft Daylight savings time update.

Use this......It's a file explorer that will overwrite most system files.
To unlock the registry which you really don't need to do for this simple file overwrite. Do a search for CERegEditor. It's a pc app that will sync to your phone and view aswell as edit your registry. There is a command within the program to unlock with.

Definitely, I confirm this will overwrite that file.

I've actually had bad luck with Total Commander. I've successfully overwritten the file once out of a dozen tries. I've tried the Copy command as well as Move.
Anyone having better luck that can chime in? I'm wondering if I'm just missing a setting in Total Commander.

Have you tried copy to clipboard?
You can also rename the file and then put the new one in there with the good one.

Well I can overwrite with TC and GSFinder. I change my splash screen often due to boredom and I can't remember the last time I had an issue. Your ROM stock or Custom?
My ROM is stock. I guess I'll try this softwre listed above, hopefully I can change the value of this file as it can't be moved, overwritten or re-named right now.
Im having a little trouble installing the manila theme. i tryied to install this theme http://mikil.deviantart.com/art/HTC-Glass-98139581 but its doesnt work. I put the 2 manila files in the windows folder and it told me to over write but its gave me an error. I use Resco File Explorer (not freeware) to copy and overwrite files. Had no issues. Though it costs, it is a must have program. Has a great registry edit that comes along with the purchase.
totalcommander is freeware and it will solve your problem.. follow the link below to get the apps

Total Commander is that a Total Comander.
You can do as you please.
Is this possible? Are there any program that disables the file protection or do i need to do it manually? Can't get it to work and don't know where to find it. Anyone got a solution?
you can use total commander for that.
and also, you can search.

Thanks! I've tried searching for it but did not find anything
Thanks again!
No you can not! Only when it's not part of a ROM. When deleting ROM files they actually are restored. Not deleted!
why you want to do this
you know what these files are for?

Yes, I got one! I've gone directly home and install my most essential programs (after syncing all contacts etc). One of these programs is TomTom7. After installing it and restarting it I get the message "BTTrayCE is not a valid application" and my bluetooth doesn't start. Has anyone experienced the same problem? Is there a solution for this?
For my work I use bluetooth and TomTom almost daily so help would be really helpfull!
Caroline
tomtom has released a special version for the tp2 that had the same problem and should have fixed the bluetooth issue. I don;t know where to find it right now, but it definately is on these forums, so do a search and you'll find the cab you are longing for.
I did an installation of TT on my SD a long time ago and since then i only made a shortcut to the startmenu after flashing a new rom and some other tricks when the devicecode changed.
Try to ask xmoo on this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=580981&page=8 <- I think he's got tomtom7 on the hd2
[sgsdebruin] How do you make a link to the startmenu? I've installed it also a long time ago on my SD...
[All] thanks for the replies. The hint of sgsddebruin did the job. I created a shortcut with the help of Total Commander. Thanks!!
Can't get bluetooth to work
If bt fails after installing tomtom , delete or rename these files and do a soft reset:
\Windows\BtSdkCE30.dll
\Windows\BtCoreIf.dll

Hi I have order my HD2 today and just sold my HD, i am looking to put tomtom on it, does anyone know if the HD1 version will work on the HD2?
Thanks Matthew.
It's not just the BT that get's killed.. The FM radio does also...
you have to delete that .dll's out of the tomtom .cab with wince cab manager.
(i believe it also can with winzip/winrar/7-zip)
and then install the cab.
be shure to do this before install

What do these dll's do?
The BtCoreIf.dll file is a custom TomTom Wizard bluetooth file.
I guess that BtSdkCE30.dll is also part of this.
TT & BT fix
Genius!
Thank you.

When I look into the setup.xml of my cab. file (TT7_916_9189.CAB)
I can see the files with install order "No Overwrite".
Does this mean they will only be installed, when there are no system files with this names allready existing in windows folder ?
I don't have deleted anything and bluetooth and radio are working great

They are probably cooked in which means they cannot be deleted. I can however make a cab for you that would replace them with fake empty files.... All I would need is the names of the dlls.
dwizzy130
or you could use total commander to change the names of the dlls to something else by doing this windows wont be able to call on them
