Hello.
Does any of yours hd2s make weird sound when you tap on them? Like there's something loose in the upper end of the device.. I guess it has something to do with back speaker.. It makes the sound even when I put it on the table.. It's nothing serious, but it makes me wonder what is wrong with it It's like piece of plastic hit another piece of plastic.. :s
Only bottom hardware keys are a bit loose, and that applies for all units. But other than that, all should be nice and firm, no sounds.
..
Nope, only the sound of my ninja quick fingers tapp'in that screen. Sounds like you do actually havee something loose in your device. : /
it's not like when i just use the touchscreen, but when i tap it with my fingers around the area where camera is.. on the backside.

I get it too, but it's so slight that I imagine it's just the shutter. It's not rattling round or anything - just loose enough to be able to move when needed.
exactly. thanks =)
Nope, i just almost had my whole face down to listen carefully, but mine makes no loose sound in any way.. strange.. in a good way tho..

Your shutter must be fused. I'd send it back to HTC for repair lol
The volume key on the side moves slightly and so do the buttons on the front, it's probably these which rattle from time to time.

The volume keys on mine are rock solid, and I can only move my hardware buttons by actually touching them and moving them - they don't move enough to rattle.
I agree with the OP - there's a really tiny (insignificant) rattle from around the camera area. Like I said earlier, I don't think it's anything wrong or worth worrying about.

There is a varying build quality to these handsets. You sound to be one of the lucky ones but I've had two now and one had a loose volume button, as does my mate's. The depth of the recess with the screen fit and the front keypad wobble and how tactile the keypress is also vary in quality.

Yeah - I should have made it clear that I wasn't saying those issues don't exist, but that they don't for me, but I get what the OP is getting at.

I'm sure this is something attributable to the mechanics of the camera module but...
Hold your Hero near the bottom. Then lightly tap the camera end against your other hand. Do you hear something kinda loose/shaking? I think it's maybe the autofocus mechanism, as I hear the same sort of sound when the camera activates.
Just wondering if you all notice this too?

Nope, nothing at all with mine. All sounds... well there is no sounds, its just solid and well built
Hmm... anyone else notice this?
This is a bump for anyone who can confirm or deny that their Hero has this issue, before I seven-day it for another one. I don't want a slightly rattly phone
Cheers.
Yeah - I feel a slight vibration. Like a camera autofocus system. Not a problem, feels well built, but it's definitely there.
Yes, I can hear the "rattle" too - I seriously doubt it is indicative of a problem though.
Regards,
Dave
No noise on mine sorry
You guys saying "Nope no noise on mine" must be deaf , I work for Orange in the UK and we have 10 Graphite Heros in the stockroom and they all do this, also a friend has a white hero and his does the same incase you guys thought it might be only on the Graphite ones Orange stock.
Im pretty sure its the autofocus, so i wouldnt worry! and the guys saying they cant hear it must not be listening for the right sound! faint tapping noise when you gently pat the phone on your palm.
Yeh that is it exactly. It's a bit annoying as im easily irritated by that kind of thing. Good to know its normal tho, guess I won't send it back now. Actually I heard the same noise from my friends touch HD today aswell.
Just seemed quite noticeable on mine but I'm probably imagining that.
It detracts somewhat from the otherwise solid build, that a slight rattle can be heard when you kinda toss the phone around in your palm or from hand to hand. Makes it feel a bit less solid.
I am on my 4th replacement HD2, for a variety of reasons. Now unfortunately this one has a loose volume button, as had my second handset. So this problem seems to be fairly widespread, having affected 50% of the handsets I've seen. I'm interested in seeing who on the forum has a loose volume button. By loose I mean that I can wiggle it around (slightly) and if I tap it I hear a rattle.
mine seems alright... i can wiggle it up and down(really slightly), but..it dosent seem 'loose' to me.
Most solid volume rocker I've EVER seen on a phone. No problems at all here.
I think it's caused by the battery cover.. if it's not put on perfectly it will sit against the rocker and will make it feel more tight.. if not it will wiggle a little like it should so it can't get stuck..

I think the solid buttons are solid even when the battery cover is removed...
So it would appear to be a widespread fault. Slightly annoying for us with loose buttons to know that half of us have solid buttons!

Yes they are always solid... rock solid.
Well, it seems there are more perfect ones than loose ones which is good I guess...but still far too many sloppy, loose volume buttons out there. Mine rattles every time I pick up my HD2, which is kinda annoying when the rest of the handset feels so solid.
mine is loose, I had noticed that in the first use and I was woundering if all HD2 are the same but it seems more than 60% are ok and dont have this issue
You think 29 is a representative number for hundreads of thousands of HD2 users?
Stop drawing any conclusions, that's silly.
If anything, then the low interest in this thread indicates that there's not many phones with loose buttons.

Au contraire, out of those who have responded the figures are quite interesting. If "hundreds of thousands" did vote, I would expect to see a similar pattern...
This is my 2nd handset and the volume buttons are loose, but the button row below the screen is not. My first HD2 had it opposite Having said that, neither problem is worth talking about, in my opinion (yes, I know it shouldn't happen with such an expensive phone, but still it's really NOT bothering me) ...

You really should learn a bit about maths and statistics. With hundreds of thousands of HD2 owners, you can't draw ANY conclusion and not expect ANY pattern from 21 votes.
If anything, 31 votes show that there's not much interest in the topic.
But since I know you, I suspect you have created this thread solely for the purpose of damaging the HD2's reputation, cause that's what you've been doing for months now, so arguing about the significance of the numbers won't help anyway.
It just doesn't matter if those buttons are 'loose' as long as they work. Actually, they need to be 'loose', so that you can press them.
Mine is loose.

What fault? Does this looseness stop you setting the volume? If not then I don't see what the big deal is and it just looks like you're looking for things to complains about - once again.
It's not a fault. And don't be surprised, sunking is creating numerous threads and writing hundreds of posts just to damage the HD2's reputation.
Don't take him serious.

Some people (including myself) strive for devices to have perfection i.e. flush screens with bezels, no loose hardware such as volume keys and the buttons at the bottom. What is trivial for some is really annoying for others. Call it mild OCD or whatever but that's just the way it is! Add to that the fact that we are looking at an expensive (£400-£500) top of the range phone here, it is only natural to expect only the best quality, we aren't talking about cheap Chinese knock-offs here after all.

You should open your mind. I'm not happy that mine is loose.
If I can should between loose and firm, I will choose firm of course.
If everybody thinks like you, the quality of the next products will be lower and lower. It's not just about we can use the feature, but for all the expensive products everything should be higher than the standard.
just wondering if any one with this phone wouldnt mind holding the phone to there ear whilst the camrea focuses as mine clicks very quietly and just wondering if they all do it or if mines faulty!
Cheers Guys
The camera is a small piece of hardware held in a small magnet driven cage. It moves slightly back and forth when focusing.
but is it suposed to click quietly?
I wondered why my camera made that sound too
Mine's always clicked and I've never had any problems with it - I just figure it's meant to be that way.

Well mine makes no sound at all when i focus, and when i shake the phone (how this issue first came to light) i can barely hear it. Other people however have reported a much louder rattle.
If yours is noticably loud, and/or sounds like gears clicking, perhaps you have a badly mounted camera, and should get it replaced.
ok glad to see other people have herd the noise i guess it just how it is
My Camera makes no clicks when focusing, but ive just deafened myself when holding close to my ear and taking a picture!! that shutter sound is LOUD that close up!!
But if i shake my phone it does rattle.. its just the volume rocker, but also the bottom buttons are a little loose...
Went into the 02 shop and checked with 2 of there HD2 and they do click very quitely like mine
+1 ...
a common issue perhaps ....

Or how it is meant to function?
A mechanical/moving parts-based focus system will always make noises.
I also can hear the "clicking", more like a distorted sound when focusing to near objects.

I wonder its normal or not, cause I don't realize when taking photo outdoors.
Till I tried in my room which is very quiet & can hear it clearly.
Hope its not a broken mechanism or might just be the focusing of gears.
So far I've never dropped my HD2 nor hard shocking force to it.
Hi,
mine make a slight clic when focusing, but I clearly remember that my old sony W810i make that noise too, for me it seems normal for an autofocus device...
mine had a soft click too. but could'nt be heard when u taking a photo, just by holding near your ear it can be heard.
Every piece of machinery that I have with auto focus makes that kind of sounds - Video cameras, photo cameras, my old Asus P535, so it is PERFECTLY normal.
Sorry for bumping the thread.
I guess then it is normal to have similar (but more quiet) clicking when camera is switched off and you put the phone one the table for example
If you are not very gentle of course
Mine clicks too. Very silent noise. Can hear it not only when using WM, but also in Android, so i presume it's a hardware thing.
Sent from my HD2
The camera lens on the HD2 is likely like alot of smaller camera lenses and CD/DVD drive lenses. Think of a speaker with the voice coil that moves up and down, then replace the speaker cone with a lens. An electromagnet makes it move up and down to focus. The clicking you're hearing is likely the mechanical system hitting either the min or max stop point.
I hear it on mine too, never really bothered me since i understand how they work. Its also why you might hear a slight rattle when the camera is off. The optical system is mounted on very light springs, its going to rattle around when it doesnt have current flowing though the electromagnet to hold the lens stable.
If you have a broken CD/DVD drive tear it apart and check out how the lens is mounted in the optical pickup for a better understanding of the mechanics
On the front of the HD2, on the panel for the buttons, the panel is well how do I say this, loose. Not to the point where its faulty, but enough to annoy me. I went today and returned my HD2 for a new one which still had this problem. Really its just a small movement but i was wondering if all devices are like this.
Waiting for your reply's,
Regards, Shatterv2.

Dosent hurt . Better than my old HD2 where the panel actually squeaked on the back button. Things like this that make me envy the buttons on the EVO and the Nexus. Damn you HTC
My front panel buttons don't even budge. Same for my volume button.
Weird?
Seems like some devices were damaged during shipping or something. I guess it bugs me to have a device worth 500-600 dollars and then have a loose panel on the front. Ill give it a week and i might go back to T-Mobile and make sure i get a good one
I thought that is how the buttons were. It's one long piece of plastic inserted between the glass screen. It can't be metal cause it might scratch the sides or something. The buttons on my HD2 has a small wiggle to it, but I've never seen anything otherwise. (with those type of buttons)
The HD2 is a quality device. After checking the volume buttons and the quality of the case, it just seems to me that that's the best those buttons can be at this time period. What do you guys think?
Month and a half of use - all are very tight/firm. Do get from time to time a little sticking noise on the power button but that seems to be fading. They should have been individual buttons instead of the single strip and have mechanical keys that were made of metal. Mine is the US version TMobile. Very solid phone. No complains so far and compared to my previous phones - TYTN I / TYTN II, Fuze this one seems to be built the best. No flex - super solid. The only thing that seems to be better built is the iPhone. Their latest version 4 seems super solid although I'd never buy it.
The buttons on my device are a bit loose too. Not when you simply press it but when you actually try to move them a bit. Anyway I can't be more descriptive LoL.
Nothing very annoying, I guess it's like the other poster said, a bit of plastic inserted between the screen. I had my doubts when I first got it (given that my Rhodium's buttons couldn't been more tight), but I can live with that. Like I said, not very irritating. The volume buttons though are very tight!
Hi, everyone
Home button in s7 edge , I just feel low quality...
First of all he prominent outside, And When I press the button I feel it is not High Quality...
It feels like a little loose and not steady and strong.
Incidentally new device... I tend to believe that everyone is like that
My question is, is it felt the same for you?
Thanks :good::good:
I see this crop up all the time.
IMO i think the button is fine, Its no more of a button i have seen on any other device.
The Iphone has a Sunken Home button, Press it and wiggle your thumb and you get play. (About as much as the S7)
I suppose with any moving part you will always get play, If there is no play, there is friction, if there is friction there is wear and tear.
I feel this crops up a little more, as the first impression or thought is, This is waterproof and if the button has play
Is the home button still water tight.
Yes
This button is very usable, actually is of poor quality...
It's really a shame...
Button feels like it came out of his place in a moment.
I would be happy for more comments / opinions

Its solid but personally I would prefer a capacitive Home button on the S8(E).
Elephone have a great implementation of one on their P9000 (which I had).
My dislike is more with the fact that one has to physically depress the Home or Power button to wake the phone.
Other than that, all good.
Tbh I think it feels "loose" because it sits on top of the water resistance layer and sprung contact point. My home button feels slightly loose but I think it's a good thing to a point as it can take a beating too. Remember the nokias that seemed cheap but actually could survive a nuke lol
