Perfect Combo? - P3600 General

I've been a member here for a few years now and i use my beloved Trinity a lot, especially for surfing the net (opera mini (java) opera mobile 8.5 and internet explorer are mostly what i use) i've noticed a lot of people seem to have very few issues with running WM6.5 but i find it almost impossible to use WM6.5 for surfing the net without it constantly freezing or resetting on me, so i was wondering, which combination of WM, SPL and Radio Roms is everyone else using and how is ur speed / stability in conjunction with these? I'd especially like to hear from those who use WM6.5.
It's more of a curiosity based question than anything else.

....win 6.5,trinity p 3600,radio 1.46,supersport rom translated from rubenalf with titanium, opera mini 5 beta ( veryvery good ),skyfire (good, little bit heavy if not in wifi ) internet explorer 7 or 8 Idon't remember ( slow and heavy ) -
- no crash almost at all - I had more problems with manila 2d in win 6.1 -

thanks donaglia, i think i'll give that combo a try.

godofwap; does your dream combo work fine? please share ur experience.

unfortunately i still found this combo to be a little tetchy at times, for example, whenever i switch to desktop mode on pie 8 it always froze before the entire page loaded, and for some reason whenever i ran opera mini 4.2 (java) it always seemed to close the java app, opera mobile 8.5 worked well for a time but had the same problem as pie 8 when it came to loading desktop view, sky fire was a complete no go, wouldnt even load, so far the best 6.5 combo i've used is:
nAr & Icke WM6.5 [build 21874.5.0.83] WWE Titanium Version (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=606027 )
Olipro hard spl 1.20
Radio Rom 1.46.30.11
I was always fully able to load desktop views on opera mobile 8.5 and pie, although it did take between 1-2 minutes to fully load at times, opera mini 4.2 still keeps crashing but i could live without using that for the time being, sky fire still would not work, the combo overall was very smooth and relatively quick considering the fact it wasnt origionally designed for our beloved trinitys, i'm now going to try WWE WM6.5 24001 UL by The.Decoy (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5547181#post5547181 ) to see how it works out, i'll keep you posted.
btw, i'd like to say that i think all the chefs here do a fantastic job, this post is just to determine the best combination for myself and anyone else who wishes to follow suit. I wouldnt want anyone to think that i'm dissing their work, so keep it up

Opera performance in WM 6.1 & a 6.1 Memory question

I'm pondering buying a Mogul over a Touch (very original I know ). If I go the Mogul route I'll run one of the cooked 6.1 ROMS despite the 64MB of ram, mostly due to the better memory management I've been reading about.
1. I plan on using the internet a lot with Opera Mobile and was wondering if the limited memory would limit what sites I could go to. Would the Mogul load the heavier(flash, graphics, etc) websites with relative ease if I had little else running?
2. How do the flash video sites work (youtube, google video, veoh, abc/fox/nbc's steaming sites)?
3. If I go the Mogul route I plan on using the GPS extensively as well with a cooked 6.1 rom. I've seen some people claiming that I may have problems trying to run the GPS program even after closing everything else. Is this just an exaggeration? Do you still need to soft boot regularly?
4. Any weird quirks I should look out for on the Mogul?
I have a p4000 (same thing as a Mogul) and I use the latest rom with Windows 6.1 and GPS without a problem.
I also love having the hardware keyboard.
I'm on Telus and it works great with the unlimited data plan I'm on.
The memory should be fine. Opera Mini 4 currently appears to be the best browser to use for surfing from what I've seen although it does have some limitations being a Java application.
Opera 8.65 works well but not as nice as Mini 4. It also supports Flash Mobile 7 but I found that YouTube performance was very poor. Opera 9.5 Mobile should be really nice when it comes out. I found a copy of Opera 9 Mobile and it had all the features of Mini 4 but seemed to randomly close on me but that's probably because it's beta. YouTube was choppy on that as well and I got a "Memory critically low" error and the phone crashed.
I cannot get YouTube to work through Streaming Media, I'm guessing Telus has blocked the protocol or ports that it uses.
So as far as I'm concerned YouTube doesn't work on it for now.
Otherwise the phone is pretty great. The memory will limit you if you want to use it for games and things as well. I found Warcraft 2 for Pocket PC but can't play it because it requires 21mb of free memory DCD's 3.0.1 ROM with WM6.1 is very nice and allows you to use the internal GPS. It also seemed faster to me than the stock Telus ROM and gave me much more free memory (went from 12mb with a bunch of Today plugins and nothing else running to over 17mb with a bunch of Today plugins running).
Google Maps works wonderfully for me even if on satellite imagery mode. It only updates every second so it's not really smooth but works nicely.

Flash for experia?

I love this phone, but opera and ie hvae no flash. Skyfire is good, but doesn't support x1 due to resolution. Is there anything I can do?
Thanks!
try looking for flashlite.3.1 cab file
it works with opera i think but im getting issues with th cache on some java things, says try emptying the cache but i cannot figure out how to do that yet if any one has any help
Thanks I tried that, but flash videos in opera just have vertical lines down them with various colors. Not sure that cab worked.
flash on xperia seems to be a tough nut to crack
Jep, got that same **** here.
Colored vertical lines, that's also what I get with the YouTube player, this is likely because of errors in the rendering. I suspect the Flash Lite we're talking about isn't getting as good alng with Opera Mobile as it should be. Most flash object don't render at all. With some fidling with the zoom in and out button and right mouse (hold slylus down) on a flash object I can sometimes get Opera Mobile to render a block/part of the object or just the controls.
I've been trying to get Flash going for a while. Most solution found on the inets rely on a specific Opera Mini version/build. Pretty much all of those builds however cause conflict with the by default installed Opera Mobile, and you end up with no Opera at all.
I'll be looking (mostly here on XDA, just started reading here, this forum is huge) for a solution that works for the xperia, but it looks like there will have to be a solution custom made for the xperia. That is, for the official ROM. Anyone familiar with a ROM that runs stable on the xperia that has Opera Mobile + Flash Lite baked/cooked in?

My rom included flashlite 3.1 and runs happy w/ the stock Opera (seperate d/l from my thread).
On Opera 9.5, the vertical line on some but not all youtube movies because some are in flash9 format which is not supported by FL3.1. Another solution is install Flashplayer 7 for WM, it works for all youtube movies I tried so far but it's a resources hog causing the playback very choppy.
Thanks, very helpful post. Awesome work you've done on creating a custom flash. Makes me wonder about how much work must have went into that and even more how you did it.
I suppose I better first get informed really well about flashing the ROM before go ahead. From what I've read it's quite risky and you really need to know exactly what you're doing. I've already read some accounts of people who have bricked their devices in a failed attempt to flash the ROM.
How did you get so experienced with working with ROM's? Just trial and error?
Also, perhaps you can explain what the abbreviations CU and CID(unlocked) stand for?

614c latest ROM experiences and details WITH DOWNLOAD LINK

Hello everyone.
This is my first post. Actually, I added this as a reply on a thread but it's so long and covers so many areas I thought I'd create a new thread from it, if that is ok.
Here are some answers to people's questions on various threads about the 614c ROM images, and my comments particularly on the various ROMs out there.
Here's a link to the latest WM6.1 ROM from a Russian gentleman yevg001 who creates them.
Here's a link to the latest hp official WM6.0 ROM.
1) Yes, you can flash to yevg001 israpda WM6.1 ROMs and then back to the hp WM6.0 ROM from the hp website as often as you like. Flashing from an SD card (not SDHC) has worked reliably several times on my three 614c phones, and flashing using the hp software also works fine (it's much slower because it loads the ROM down a USB cable).
2) The big difference between the yevg001 ROM and the hp ROM is that the hp ROM contains an update to the device firmware, to v0.88 (the latest version). This is of interest if you still have firmware v0.77 (the previous and originally released version). The yevg001 ROMs do not affect your firmware version.
3) If you apply the hp ROM, you cannot get back to v0.77 firmware - I don't think the hp installer will downgrade you, even if you have an old hp ROM image.
4) Why might you want to downgrade to v0.77 device firmware? Because v0.88, while better in numerous ways, has one critical defect: it does not properly support call waiting. When a second call is received (and you hear the beeps in your ear), the active call is affected in that the person you are talking to cannot hear you - and usually hangs up because he/she things you have lost the line. It's very annoying. Other than this, the firmware is better and more stable, due to various minor bug fixes. Fewer missed calls, fewer crashes.
5) Ok, putting aside device firmware and thinking of software... the latest yevg001 ROM is based on hp software image 1.01.04, the latest image at time of writing. yevg001 has also added a few little software applets into the image, but you don't need to use any of these. Obviously, you cannot uninstall them as they are in the ROM, but they also therefore don't take up any usable space.
6) The touchFLO interface is optional. You can easily deactivate it. It looks quite pretty but I have to say I don't like it, so I've deactivated it just by unchecking it in Today settings.
7) The yevg001 WM 6.1 build (I'm using his v1.6) is very good. I have only noticed one major problem with it. The phone is faster than ever before (and I've tried a lot of ROMs). It is quite stable - a couple of crashes but not noticeably more than the hp ROM. The WM6.1 ROM is entirely in English (with the exception that Yevgeny has added in Russian T9 support - not much use without Russian character set). English T9 works as normal.
8) I have also noticed improved battery life. With the latest hp 1.01.04 WM6.0 ROM, I usually get through four fully charged batteries in 24 hours. With the yevg001 v1.6 WM 6.1 ROM, I only get through three. Yes, I'm quite a heavy user but this is a good improvement.
9) The major problem I mentioned in point 7, which won't affect everyone, is that yevg001's ROM does not allow concurrent voice and data usage on a 3G or HSDPA network. How bad is that? Not all 3G phones support this and it is one of the best features of the 614c... My guess is that yevg001 does not even realise this because there is no (or nearly no) 3G in Russia - at least there wasn't last time I was in Moscow in April/May. Basically, if you have any data connection active at the time you place or receive a call, the phone just abruptly drops the data connection. It re-establishes it fine after your call, but no concurrent usage. **If any Russian forum user is reading this, please could you post to yevg001 and ask him if he can address this?**
10) Other experiences based on my regular usage:
a) Bluetooth works fine, neither better nor worse than the standard HP build. I use several BT headsets for calls and also listen to music using A2DP. The A2DP connection seems more stable under WM6.1. In general on the 614c the BT sound level is too low, it does seems a bit lower still with the yevg001 ROM but it was a problem already.
b) Wi-fi works fine, no problems at all with b or g networks.
c) The PIE browser seems to have been slightly improved under WM6.1.
d) The threaded SMS is fantastic! And better than the iphone too because it allows you to delete and to forward individual messages within the thread. The email client seems to be unchanged.
e) I use tomtom navigator 6.3 (western europe) a lot. It works well.
f) Getting a GPS fix can take more than five minutes from cold. If you've used it before on the same day, it's usually less than a minute. I have always found that the 614c is slower to get a fix than the old 6915 which I believe many 614c users upgraded from.
g) Google Maps also works really well, with GPS, and using HSDPA the 614c is fast enough to keep up with your position on a zoomed-in satellite photo while travelling in a car at 30mph (no I wasn't driving!).
h) The media player is ok, I do wish it would read the album artwork out of the mp3 metadata, but that's a slightly off topic observation.
i) The camera is shockingly slow. I use it rarely. The autofocus works quite well.
j) I've had no problems with lots of 8GB SDHC cards.
k) Battery life battery life battery life. The Achilles heel of the 614c. See point 8 above.
m) Activesync seems to work more quickly and more reliably under the WM6.1 ROM than previously.
n) Voice Commander is rubbish. Why do they bother? It takes ages to start up, only works from American accents, is generally slow and intrusive (over other open windows) and is unreliable. MS Voice Command was much better.
Hope all this is interesting! Let me know what you think and if you've got any questions I'll do my best to answer them.
Cheers,
hipppo

Cool, I use also the yevg001's ROM , It work very well. Does someone try his extended battery ? His look unchange? or it look like the Axim X30 with his extended battery?
My experience.
I do agree with the comments. I might add another issue - some of the programs based on netCF don't work - they report errors. I installed netCF3.5 but the problem still persists.
Hi,
I just wanted to thank you for this very detailed post.
It answered a lot of my questions!
Have HP categorically said they won't be releasing an official 6.1 ROM?
Thanks,
Adam
In my Ipaq 614C the word-completion features does not with on-screen keyboard. It's normally cauby by XT9? XT9 work well with the physical keyboard.

i ve bought the extended battery from HP and i have to say that it reallly enhance the use of the 614c ! i haven't really measured but i would say it last 2-3 times later than with the actual battery, using this 6.1 rom. the only drawback is that the phone is now bigger...
In my opinion, it's better to buy another standart battery and charger for it. I used to own a samsung i600 with two batteries - normal and extended and i had a separate charger for the battery. The only problem was, that i had to change the battery cover everytime i change the battery, which is not ery convenient. I think they sell a charger for about 5-6$ so you just charge the other battery and put it in your pocket. If you want to, you can buy two batteries. The ipaq is bulky enough with the normal battery.
HP said that "there aren't any devices made by HP with WM6.1 at the moment so they will have to make tests if the ipaq 610 is compatable with wm 6.1 and then think of releasing update". IMHO this means something like "We are not going to release wm 6.1 update if you want an official wm 6.1 phone go buy something else" . Of course it's compatable with wm 6.1 and it's working much better with it, but they have to pay $$$ to Microsoft so they can use wm 6.1 and they probably won't do that. The truth is, that the ipaq is cheaper then most of the other devices with similar hardware. I don't think that of they release an udate it will be better than the russian rom. The battery drains because you have a very, very fast CPU. I tested it with XcpuScalar and it plays 320x240 MP4 video with decent quality when clocked at 104MHZ. Now you can imagine the excessive power of the CPU, which is utilized at maximum only when playing QUAKE 2 or some playstation emulator, or when using SKYPE.
thanks for the infos but i can't register there to download a rom.what can we do for this?i don't speak russian

I installed the last ROM update from this thread..
until now, i still haven't found any bugs.. does anyone have found a bugs in this ROM?
I am still using the previous ROM, not the latest one that my link above goes to.
In the previous ROM, the most frustrating bug is the inability to do voice and data at the same time. Initiating or receiving a call immediately terminates the data connection. This is very frustrating - the best thing about 3G is being able to sync emails and so on while talking on the phone, particularly when using the 614c as a high-speed modem for your laptop.
Sadly, no more of this for me... the benefits of the Russian WM6.1 ROM outweigh this (albeit quite big) disadvantage.

HKLM\\System\Inbox\Settings\PropertyPath with value \Storage Card\Messaging
HKLM\\System\Inbox\Settings\AttachPath with value \Storage Card\Messaging\Attachments
Then move the entire Messaging folder under \Windows to \Storage Card and do a soft reset.
do carefully, i'm a newbie
One caveat is that you need to disable the "Messaging" Today plugin before your soft reset. If you don't do this, a second "\Storage Card" folder will be created in your ROM and your real Storage Card will be renamed "\Storage Card2", which isn't very useful is it?

Hi Hipppo,
do you have any news about a newer ROM that does not have this problem ?
after using it a while did you find any other problem related to theses cooked rom ?
are thoses new ROMs comming with NetCF3.5 or older ?
Hello Albertorrent,
I have stopped using the yevg001 ROM mentioned in my first posting and I am now using his latest ROM which I think is called Build 20270.1.3.1 v1.4 rev1.2.
I have found this ROM to be stable, no problems. I recommend it.
It allows concurrent voice and data usage.
I am afraid my limited technical knowledge does not allow me to understand your question about NetCF3.5.
hipppo
Thanks,
I ordered my phone monday so I Might have it at the end of the week.
I'll try this new rom.
net CF is usefull to run some applications that has been developped whith it.
I just know that some application cannot install and run if there is not the latest CF (3.5) instaled
for exemple this one :
http://www.retrobits.net/ppc/ppc.shtml
you can find it here :
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/fr/index.php?soft=1187
thanks
just google it
albertorrent - i have the netcf3.5 as a separate Cab and i install in on the SD card. I haven't noticed any problem using it that way. I think it was somewhere on the forum but you can always google it. If you can't find it i can e-mail it to you. Right now i don't have it installed and I don't miss it much but some programs require it. At the moment I'm using the latest official 6.0 rom and i find the machine quite stable and fast with it. I had the 1.6 version of the russian 6.1 rom but for now i'm with 6.0

[Q] Opera Mobile 10 For TP2?

So I downloaded the latest version of Opera Mobile (10) from Opera's website but I've noticed now that it is not compatible with the zoom slider on the bottom; it does not give you the option to minimize when you click on exit like 9.7 does; and it always uses the whole screen so it's slightly harder to multitask.
Is there a TP2-specific version that retains all the previous compatible features of 9.7?
Thanks!
I just installed Opera 10 on mine last night.... and I uninstalled it within 15 minutes of use. Opera 9.7 native to the rom is slow and buggy. PIE functions far better IMO. However, Mini is still the first go-to browser for me. It just flat works and is fast. I still keep PIE as the default browser, and use Skyfire for when I need to view desktop version of sites. So I rotate between those three depending on what site I need to view.
Hmm ok thanks for the input. I installed Mini the other day but it looked and seemed to perform exactly the same as Mobile 10 so I uninstalled it (didn't see the point of having both installed). Maybe I'll give it another chance. I used Skyfire on my Titan but haven't tried the latest versions on this phone yet so I'll give it a try.
PIE seems to run really slow for me.

Yes PIE is slow, and it sure looks a whole lot like Opera 9.7 IMO. But it does function better for some sites. For example, if I'm on Youtube's site, PIE will open up the video links in Steaming media, Opera Mini will not. But Mini flys through most wap/mobile sites, and that is why I use it 75% of the time. Skyfire can be slow too, but it will open up a site like a desktop... for the most part.
Opera 10 from what I can tell, is a bloated version of Opera Mini.
I too tried Opera 10 a while back and got rid of it quickly - however, I have come back to 10 and have learnt to live without the zoombar, since it is faster and takes up less RAM I was finding Opera 9.7 would often quit, even if I wasn't trying to multitask, whereas 10 deosn't seem to, even if I hit the Windows hard key and open up emial or calendar etc.
Wow, 9.7 closes on you? I have yet to have an application close on this phone even when I have lots of stuff open. But I've been running mostly MightyROM since I got it.
Opera 10 only has 2 levels of "zoom". It does not have a scalable zoom, so there is no way to make it compatible with the zoom bar on the TP2.

Actually, O10 has 7 levels of "zoom" within the settings tab. OMini has "text size" for it's pseudo zoom.
Skyfire for tilt2
is skyfire working for anyone on their tilt2?? i loved skyfire when ti was workigmn but a month ago it quit due to the iphone introduction to skyfire. All i want to do is listen to my www.skysports.com/radio on the tilt but no luck lately. tried opera mini but no luck
I would like to ask to anyone who uses Opera10 or 9.7 on your TP2 : How in the world can you cope with the scrolling thing with this browser? I mean the scrolling is really sluggish - I move up with my fingers, the scrolling is delayed by some seconds, and when I tried to scroll left/right/down, the scrolling respond after some seconds and the page scrolls by itself in all directions since it remembers the movements made of my finger.
I find this browser sluggish and very difficult/annoying to use - how can you guys still be using Opera 9.7/10?
I have never had those problems with Opera 10 on my (T-Mobile) TP2 running WM 6.5. It works fine for me.

Are you sure the scrolling is smooth with Opera10? I've tried on 2 tp2 and the results are the same. I think it's called ghosting. The finger scrolling lags and is a pain to browse the whole page.
Opera 10 working fine
I too had experienced some issues with the early builds of Opera 10 both beta and finals, but I have come back to it and use it a good 98% of the time when I want to surf the net on my phone. Seems that they may have fixed the issues with the lag from the early builds.
Then again, it just may be the ROM that I am using.
Seriously???
I don't know how you can think 9.7 is faster or better than 10!?!?! Simple one click zoom, fast page load times, speed dial on homepage. 10 is alot better, besides, if you want to minimize, just hit the end ket and go into task manager in upper right corner. There is also a TRULY final version on opera's website....it is very stable and smooth. I too had issues with the beta and switched to skyfire (mistake) but when the final came out, amazing.
I have a tip......its seems that whatsoever version of roms..the integrated Opera browser seems to be slow and not working well. So I removed it from my programs and downloaded Opera Mini 1. This browser is with in 2 sec on a website page. My advice?.....dont use the browser on the ROM ..it doesnt work well...
