G1 + Cyanogen 4.2.8 + att = not working - G1 General

Hi folks,
I bought a Cingular GoPhone cellphone and i want to use the line on my G1. The problem is that the G1 doesn't register the sim card on att's network. The crappy phone works fine though.
When going to "Wireless Controls > Mobile Networks > Network operators > Search networks" i am getting att's network listed, so i guess the phone is able to scan for networks. Since my sim card is an att's, the phone should be able to register the sim card to At&t network, but i'm getting "Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network" error. Same error when trying the "Select Automatically" option.
I've been google'ing but could't find a solution, even though there is a lot of threads going back and forth.
Here is my configuration info:
Phone: T-Mobile G1 ( Dream PVT 32B DREA10000), Unlocked, Rooted.
Sim Card: AT&T (Cingular), 1 week old.
Firmware: CyanogenMod 4.2.8
Build Number: DRC83
Radio: 2.22.18.26I
HBoot: 1.33.2005
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Have you already forgotten that G1 is locked to Tmo?
You need the unlock code for it to be used on other carriers.
Plus G1 will only beable to use 2G on att.
Cyan has a new version out now.

The phone is unlocked. I have been using it with south american carriers without any problems.
I don't need 3g right now. ( gophone line )

Wiped, flashed with ( http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Latest_version#Defanged_DRC83 ), and then flashed newest Cyanogen ( 4.2.11.1 ).
Still no luck.
Getting the same exact error while registering the sim card.
Thanks

Try skipping the sign-in.Turn your phone off then put the sim in.Also change the Apn settings and change provider to att in settings.

Same error while trying to select the provider: "Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network".
I manually added att's apn settings, but after i saved it, it doesn't get listed at all, it dissapears.
Any clue on what can be wrong here?
Thanks

i have an unlocked g1 with att and i had no network problems with cyanogens roms.

Try checking the "2G only" box in data settings. It might be tring to sign into AT&T's 3G voice network, which IIRC, is not a supported feature on GoPhone accounts.

After creating the att apn, the apn doesn't get listed on the apn list and it's not available. I did save it, but the list appears empty.

Do you know what spectrum or frequencies your phone runs at? Sometimes they don't include the international spectrum's (or american)if the phone is imported. Nokia has a few phones that needed a North American version they usually have the NAM title next to there name to show they support the American spectrums.

I don't know. I bought the phone in the US, though. Guess it should work.
I remember playing around with SPL and radio images while trying a custom rom with rosie UI, but it looks that the versions posted in the first message should work just fine.

i had att for while and it worked as soon as i unlocked my phone went to tmo because i needed 3g but still use att sim every now and then with no problems and i think ive used every rom on xda and alldroid

Yeah but he's saying his phone is from South America. I'm sure yours wasn't

The phone is from the US. I bought it on ebay, shipped and used in south america.
I just came up with something that actually match all the sympthoms.
Maybe this is happening because the phone IMEI be banned from att's network.
Is there any way i can find out if the phone is reported as stolen or something like that ?

AT&T on G1

Wondering if these services work with AT&T on a regular sim-unlocked G1:
3g work with AT&T ?
MMS work with AT&T ?
Is Root required?
I do know how to root and sim-unlock, asking for my dad whose wanting to get a G1.
AT&T's 3G is on a different frequency, so no.
MMS should work with the correct settings listed somewhere in the forums. Root is not required to use it on another network.

Edge will work.
You should be able to get 3g on the HTC Dream on AT&T assuming you buy the Canadian version from Rogers. I believe they can be unlocked but I'm not sure. They haven't been rooted yet. We're trying to get that now. There were some donations put together and we sent Haykuro a Rogers phone last week for him to try and root. It should be at his place tomorrow, so hopefully it wont take him too long to root it, then you'd have full control over the phone.
However just simply unlocking it should allow it to work on AT&T's 3g network as both AT&T and Rogers use the same frequencies for their 3g network.
I have the G1 on AT&T everything works besides 3G which isn't a huge deal because T-mobile doesn't have 3G where I am.
I also use an ADP1 on AT&T in Phoenix with no issues besides no 3G. I get about 200kbit/sec down and 120kbit/sec up. Nothing to write home about, but it works.

[Q] Rooted and sim unlocked. I dont get internet!!!

Did a search and checked all FAQ's but i cant seem to find anyone with the same problem as me.
Phone keeps telling me i have no network but im getting 2-4 bars of signal. I cant go on the internet, youtube, facebook ect... unless i turn wifi on.
Phone details:
Im rooted and sim unlocked.
Im up in Canada, on the FIDO network
In the mobile network settings, it says EDGE, but i should be getting 3G.
TMO Vibrant SGH-T959
firmware 2.1 -update 1
kernal 2.6.29
Service state says "in service" but mobile network state says "disconnected"
For some reason im on roaming even if im no where near the border.
I have set data roaming to ON to see if internet would work but it didnt.
This is my first android phone and im very new to all the menu's and settings! Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
TMO Vibrant SGH-T959
Fido
This explains all.
only Wind mobile uses AWS(1700/2100) same as T-mobile.
Their 3G phones don't work with Rogers(Fido)/Bell/Telus.
Ah man no way!!!
So there is nothing i can do to make this work then?

Best thing you can do is to switch to wind.
Right now they are giving 150$ porting credit also
Make sure you also have a data package on your line, and change the APN to Fido's settings. You'll at least get the EDGE connection which is better than nothing.
Other option would be to sell the Vibrant and get a Captivate, which has Fido's 3G frequencies.
It should be possible for you to get 3G with FIDO since they use 1900 MHz and the Vibrant has a radio for that frequency

Get to your APN settings first
Menu ---> Settings --> Wireless and Network --> Mobile Networks --> Access Point Names. You should see T-Mobile US.
Then hit the Menu button again and select New APN. Enter this info into the respective fields
APN1

APN: internet.fido.ca
Username: fido

APN Type: default
(all other fields blank)
Enter everything here, I cannot guarantee this will work, as I do not have AT&T service. But it's more than what you got now. Make sure you go back to that menu and select this APN is the one you want to use.
DO NOT delete the T-Mobile one, as you may need it at a later time.
Hope this helps
Also if you have trouble with MMS: Try these in the messaging settings.

you got it!
does the vibrant phone have the capacity to go 3G even if tmobile doesnt offer it?
All 4 SGS seem to have the exact same specs... So if ATT (captivate?) has 3g, the vibrant should be able to get it right?
tmobile does offer 3g, it is just on a different band than the one from ATT, but for what has been going around these past few days, some have been successful using 3g vibrant from tmobile on ATT since there is at least one band that matches, coverage is not as great as with an original att phone, but works. I haven't tried it myself since I don't have an ATT SIM to try it
Where can i find what bands are used? I would like to compare what my fido carrier uses compared to TMO and ATT for 3G network.
AT&T uses 850/1900 for 3G
T-Mobile uses 1700(AWS)/2100
I know wikipedia has the whole list of all the carriers but most Canadian providers use AT&T bands including Rodgers/Fido.
If I remember correctly only Wind uses TMobile bands
You sir.... are a god among men!!!
IT WORKED!!!
Now i need to track down ATT users to find out what they did to get onto the 3G !!!

Not a problem at all, glad I could help.
Do you not have 3G on Fido?
*EDIT* I just checked Fido Bands. They are 850/1900 as well. So you are most likely in an area that uses 850(which the Vibrant doesnt have) like AT&T. If you travel around see if 3G pops up in other places.
Usually when im in the basement my iphone doesnt get 3g... but if i lay it flay on my desk and dont touch it... sometimes it will pick it up.
So i took my vibrant out for a drive yesterday just to see if i would pick up 3g and i didnt...... BUT...
Woke up this morning and found the 3g logo on with my phone being on my desk in the basement.... like my iphone!
Good sign! Today im taking the vibrant out as my "daily driver" for the first time (with my simless iphone in my pocket as backup lol)
Ill let you guys know my findings tonight.
I think you totally got it, but just to be clear for others reading this thread, your Vibrant will work some of the time on 3G and some of the time on Edge when using the Fido network.
The Vibrant receives 3 different 3G frequencies: 1700/1900/2100.
Fido uses 2 different 3G frequencies: 850/1900.
Some Fido areas have only 850, some have only 1900, and some have both. If you are in an area that has 1900, then your Vibrant will get 3G. Wind uses 1700/2100, so it better serves your Vibrant.
On the other hand, the Captivate will receive 3G in two different bands: 850/1900. This means that when used on Fido, it will always work in 3G (where available). If it were used on the Wind network, it would always operate on Edge.
Note that all of this requires setting the carrier-appropriate APN, which you have already done for Fido.
^^^
WOW .. that clarifies EVERYTHING! Thanks so much for posting that.
Which also explains why today i saw jumps from 3g to edge ect...
Thanks for the post!

IMEI Number

I live in a very small town in West Virginia and the closest AT&T store is an hour away. I was wordering if anyone could give me an IMEI number that would help me get my new note up and running on the at&t network. It would save 2 hrs of driving.
Thanks
Kevin
IMEI number is the unique ID of your phone. Each phone has its own. Your IMEI is printed on the box and inside the phone behind battery. You don't need other ppl's IMEI because it is counter productive and doesn't help you get the phone activated. What you need is an AT&T SIM card, like the one you already have on your existing AT&T phone. Simply pull that SIM card out and put into your Note and you're done. You don't need to activate anything if you already have an active account with AT&T. When you first connect your phone to AT&T, they will know your phone's IMEI right away.
foxbat is correct if you already have an activated ATT SIM card. What you may need to set up is the APN to get the GNote up and running. If you do there are several thread on the APN's, or just ask for help.
This is the APN I am using: EDIT: This is for a 4G LTE SIM card that I also use in my Skyrocket. the 3G APN Is different as foxbat points out.

Please note that Phone APN may not work for everyone. If you already have an AT&T 4G phone, Phone APN will work for you. If you only have a 3G phone, your data plan is not upgraded to 4G plan. And Phone APN won't work for you.
The best APN to use is the old 3G APN called WAP.Cingular. It won't affect your 4G speed, at least not yet, and don't require upgrade your data plan to 4G plan (which is just a phone call away).

Ok, I'm a little confused. I read the following link on how to get my unlocked note fully functional on AT&T and it stated to go to the AT&T store and get an IMEI number.

Yes, I'm a little confused on this as well. I just posted a question in that thread, so hopefully, someone can clear things up for us. I have an iphone with at&t, so can I just put my sim card in the note with an adapter, and I should be good to go? I want to make sure I don't lose my grandfathered unlimited data.

You will be very lucky to get HSPA+ anywhere near 7.2mbps. On top of that there are plenty of ppl using wap.cingular reaching 9mbps speed in certain areas.

[HELP] Got AT&T sim into International S3, calling works but data doesn't work

I got an international S3 from India and went to AT&T store to get a micro sim.
Got that installed and then the phone calling works fine but data (internet) doesn't work.
They said they would have to register my phone's IMEI but it still doesn't work. They put in a new APN, and still same. They called their tech and they couldn't help. Their last suggestion was to try calling Samsung, but I had to leave to get to work.
I believe there are already people using International version with AT&T for the S3. So any ideas what could be wrong?
Thanks!
Try factory resetting your phone. Other than that, make sure you have the $10/month data plan (unlimited messaging required) or the $15/month data (no messaging required). To do that you'll have to call into customer care and say you have an unlocked non-smartphone. If you go into the store to do this they'll give you the more expensive internet because they'll see you have a smartphone. If you're changing data plans it CAN take 24-48 hours for it to be effective, although it usually doesn't take that long. After that's done go into Settings, More Settings (under Wireless and Network settings), Mobile Networks, and then Access Point Names. Make sure there is an Access Point Name titled "Cingular 410". If there isn't then press Menu, and then "+ New APN". The settings should look like this:
Name: Cingular 410
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
User name: [email protected]
My Password field is auto-filled, so I don't have that. Try leaving it blank, but if that doesn't work call customer care and get that information.
Server: cingulargprs.com
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com

APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4

Well now my SIM is completely unregistered, can't even make calls. Operator asked me to go to the store and get a new SIM Card.
So, this won't work without the switch to the non-smartphone data plan? It is going to be hard to pull off when I am in the store.

Ok, thanks. What should I tell the AT&T store people today when I go in the evening?
It feels like they did something on the account to screw it up. Would it help to suggest that they get this working on an AT&T HTC OneX and then transfer the SIM to my phone?
It could be that you have a defective SIM card. Take it one step at a time. Replace the SIM card. Make sure you have functionality with other services (such as voice and messaging). Check all the APN settings to make sure those are correct. Make sure you have a data plan for AT&T.
I'm on another carrier but I had the same problem at first, only phone call and sms working. I had to change my APN for the Data to work.

[Q] T-Mobile/AT&T/GSM on Razr M

P3Droid has successfully gotten the RAZR M to run on AT&T. But my question is this: If I have a 3G ATT sim, will it work? Has P3 released the how to yet? I know i'm being impatient but I really need it because I urgently need to use this on ATT since my 'Backup' phone has just reached the end of life.

TBH you're better off with a Razr I (which is same handset with 3G GSM only, and intel proc - don't worry about benchies, anand has confirmed it runs great w/ actually better battery life than S4).
The Verizon Razr M won't work with AT&T 4G, so Razr I is equivalent basically, + is fully unlockable bootloader, + better battery life, + cheaper, = win

wintermute000 posted the Aussie radio image in the fast boot thread.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8648738/NON-HLOS.bin
All that is needed is to flash that in fast boot with the following command: fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
Then insert the SIM and reboot and it should just work. You may need to select GSM/UMTS in Mobile Networks settings. The APN is set automatically by the SIM and the apns-config.XML by default has the necessary APNs included for ATT and T-Mobile.
We intend to post a more complete tutorial but are trying to understand more about how it works and what doesn't work under the AU radio.
P3Droid has VZW 4g data and CDMA1X voice but no 3g data. I have no service at all with VZW SIM because I am in a 3g only area.
It appears to break eHRPD authentication probably because that is not used on Australian networks and is a very problematic part of how VZW's network is deployed.
When we get it figured out a little better we will post more information.
Right now it's pretty straightforward. You use the AU radio for GSM/UMTS service but must flash back to the VZW radio for normal CDMA/LTE/EVDO service.

This is GREAT! I've been waiting for something like this, and I've been following the progress ... see also my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973156&page=2 post #13
Just FYI, wintermute000 posted two images for the radio, one was zipped and dumped from mmcblk0p1, and the other is the one you linked to. I downloaded both and checked the MD5, they are the same.
Well, I think this is it, I'll get this phone, flash the radio, put my t-mobile sim in it, and cross my fingers ...
The only problem left is, how to get rid of the verizon logo without ruining the phone

Let me know if you figure that one out.
I suppose we could always cover it up with a sticker or something.
I'm so mad that the aussie radio isn't compatible with my ATT card, can't connect to 2G, 3G, or 4G on ATT or TMO frequencies. Do I have to have the sim card out of the phone when I flash the radio cuz i left it in.

Dev Edition or retail?
Is voice working?
Did you go into settings and make sure the radio is set to GSM or WCDMA? Are you sure the APN is correct, or even there at all?

I researched APN a little bit.
When I type this into a new APN:
Name: StraightTalk ATT
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMSC proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type: Not set
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
APN enable/disable: APN enabled (tick mark checked but grayed out anyways)
Bearer: Unspecified
I then press 'save' and it won't save the apn. Its as if the phone knows that its a Straight Talk APN and won't let it save. However, if i put random letters in each of the boxes, it lets me saves the APN. Any ideas as to why? Also which APN setting will work with the Aussie Radios?
Well, it doesn't look like you're supposed to be leaving the Proxy and Port blank.

Do you have any other APN I can use other than straight talk? I have a 4G ATT card inserted in my Dev Razr M. I can't connect at all to any service when i search and i already flashed the aussie radio
Edit: I see that my MNC and MCC codes have to be the same as found on the sim card otherwise the APN won't save. How do I know what those codes are for ATT 4g?

You can Google for the AT&T and T-Mobile ones, but it won't help you any to put a different carrier's APN in. If you're on Straight Talk, you need to be using Straight Talk's APN.

Thanks for your help, I truly appreciate it. I'm not on Straight Talk. So I guess I have to look up the APN values for ATT 4G. But is it even possible for me to get anything from 2G or better running on the Aussie radios. Like does the radio support those frequencies?

Yes, the radio supports those frequencies. If it flashed correctly, and the correct APN is used, it will work.

What crazy is that i tried all MNC and MCC codes for ATT such as 310 and 410 and others yet it won't save. I'm going to try reflashing the radio
After I do the command 'fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin' and it says something along the lines of Sending modem...OKAY and Writing modem....OKAY 30 Seconds Finished......it must've worked then. But at reboot it still says sim is from invalid source so I've narrowed the problem donw to the APN settings.

I hear invalid SIM source is from the stock ROM. It is probably to annoy you and keep you on Verizon.

Yes. You'll still need to figure out how to configure your APN but it'll stop that invalid sim message from popping up.
