HTC HD2 LEO - Manufacturer defect - HD2 General

Hi, everyone,
Although, there were rumors that the camera chip is defective on this phones, mine is working just fine.
However, I post this thread to let you fellas know that I have discovered 3 very small cuts on the top right corner of the phone's case, right where the case meets the screen. They are very small but if you look closer or if you lightly slide your finger or your thumb's nail on the case's edge, you will feel them. Maybe they were created as part of the manufacturing process (when they pressed in the screen) or maybe they are just defects.
I would like to know if you have the same issue as I do. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. If I am the only one with those cuts, than I'll take it as a defect and proceed with the returning of the phone.
Many thanks.

Touch Screen "Smudge"

Hi all,
I've now seen two HTC Touch devices with the same "smudge" on the screen. It appears in the centre, underneath the top layer of screen, and is roughly 3cm long. It's almost as if dust has collected in the middle of the screen or something.
I'd have thought nothing of it until I saw another device with the same thing. Has anyone else experienced this? It's not always visible - with the screen off, or in direct sunlight you can see it, but otherwise it's not noticeable.
Anyone?
I have the same **** right in the center of my device
i've the same probleme on my screen
it's very boring
After how long did you begin to see this problem? I have only had my Touch a short amount of time and haven't had this issue but its not great that many people are dealing with it.
Damn, I hope this doesn't turn into another "my black Trinity is peeling" issue that affects all or most Touch users. Why don't you guys run a poll to get an idea how wide spread this is? Perhaps HTC needs to be made aware of this if it's not just some isolated defects.

I was one of the few that never had paint peeling issue on my black Trinity so hopefully I can dodge this smudge issue too....
I think u will find that it is an inherent part of the hard touch screen. Device off on all touches should display what some call a blur. I have to put mine at an angle and I can see a small 1cm max. aboration. otherwise quite unnoticeable.
Had mine almost 8 weeks and not any hint of any smudge / blur or anything unusual
Guess what, I also have this blur at the center of my screen, I thought nothing of it at first because it is barely noticable and second I thought that maybe I accidently pressed on the screen to hard at one point while carrying in my pocket; However now I am more concerned due to the fact that others have this same issue...??
Same problem with mine.
to all that have the problem. Do you have an original Touch ore a branded version (XDA, MDA etc.)?
Well, i have that little piece of htc touch since about one week, the branded version XDA. don´t got that smudge on my screen, and i hope i never will. ... otherwise i will get it back to the shop and try to get a new one ... have got the experience that O2 (i´m having the htc from that privider in Germany) turned out to be quite nice in such things.
just something that you migh like to consider. Coming from unverified source:

...Unfortunately, my Touch has developed a patch of fog or dust under the screen, and HTC have confirmed they've had several reported cases of this. They were very helpful on the phone, though, and sound like they're going to be good about getting me a replacement quickly
can someone post a screenshot, that the other users
know, what you are talking about?
thanxs in advance

i see a big patch while starting the device where it says "smart mobility" but after that never noticed it :-/
i will try to take a pic of it ........
are you talking about that submarine or something below smart mobility?

yeah yeah its kinda submarine .....is it same with ur mobile ?? i guess the background they have used is not perfect black :-/
I'll try to get a photo of it tonight. It's basically a smudge that's 2cm high, and half a centimetre wide, right in the centre of the display. It's beneath the external covering on the screen, and almost looks like a neatly arranged collection of dust right in the middle.
I may have someone who can look into this for me, so I'll investigate and post here if anything turns up. It does sound like this is a problem with the device though, and is more widespread than I expected.

Yeah but I only noticed it when soft resetting and when someone posted it here so I looked below the smart mobility text carefully.. haven't noticed it otherwise..
Smudge
I had this problem just days after getting my Touch. I sent it back and got another... I have a smudge again... even though it isnt as bad. I will contact HTC again and see if I can send it back again. Not sure I will have a Touch after sending this one back.

Digitizer Non Responsive

Hey guys.
Owned the phone for a few months now and have started to notice a really odd problem. For a while the screen was being fairly unresponsive to touches and I couldn't figure out why. Taking the screen protector off fixed it temporarily but now the issue is back.
I finally realised that the issue was a black smudge that would appear whenever I pushed too hard on the screen. I'm assuming this registers as a touch on the screen and prevents it from working. Rubbing the stylus over the area usually makes it dissipate and the screen becomes responsive again, but it would come back not long later after general use.
Also there's some fairly odd rainbowing underneath the digitizer that moves around when you press on the screen. It circles around the smudges when they appear.
I know that all sounds fairly vague, but any help on the issue would be great. Is a new digitizer in order or could it be fixed by just dissassembling it? I've tried using a suction cap to make the problem go away, the rainbowing disappears but slowly comes back again. Also I haven't dropped the phone, left it near anything etc, besides the digitizer problem the phone works fine.
Thanks in advance!
(On a side note, I bought the phone off eBay and had to use a serial number locater to determine the region of the phone. Found out it was destined for India when I'm in Australia. Fairly odd, but what are the warranty implications? Is it still covered?)
Same problem here!
I've sent it to HTC for repair, since my Diamond2 has 1 year warranty and I only bought it in May/09. HTC said that screen issues are excluded of the warranty and that I have to pay about €70 for the screen repair, because, they say, the problem is due to misuse - wich I don't think is true.

You have collapsed your layers between lcd and digitizer.
Some folks here use duct tape to repeatedly pull the layers apart and it fixes their issue for a while.
Thought it'd be something along those lines. I'll give the duct tape trick a try, can you point me to some other threads? I tried searching but was probably using the wrong terms.
Also vasco that's complete bollocks. I've kept my phone in its case the whole time I've had it, never put any pressure on it or had it in a rough environment. I'd throw a few customer complaints their way, especially if other people have had the same issue. Nice to know I'm not alone at least.

The issue is being discussed here:
http://forum.xda-developers...522813
I've already filed a complaint to the comm's regulation office. I'me presently waiting for their response.
had the same issue.. I just replaced the digitizer, it's a bit tricky but certainly possible.. yours is not that old so it should be repaired under warranty if you can have that done (have no clue about your situation there..)
digitizers are cheap on ebay

Here is my thread about this.
I am in the same boat as you - phone was destined for somewhere in Asia, and I am in Australia. I contacted HTC, and they also told me that the problem could be caused by misuse, even though I KNOW it wasn't, as my phone is always in it's case unless being used, never dropped etc. It sucks, but I think I will just replace the digitizer myself.

CDMA Hero Bugs and Manufacturer Defects

I'm starting this thread as a central database for CDMA Hero owners to share defects and bugs in Hardware and Software.
My apologies if this has been addressed else-where.
Found with my Girlfriend's and my "with Google" Heros that we both have a noticeable amount of dust under the screen (glass). I thought this was addressed with rev. 2 of the phone?
Anyone one else with the same issue?
paint on case is VERY easy to chip...
I agree the finish seems a little delicate. I've been using a cheap hard plastic case since I got mine in dec. Helps alot with wear and tear, and isn't too bulky or hard to get out of my pocket.
i agree with the paint issue.
my end button is totally red not silver and red
I had a dust issue with my first (unbranded).
The first thing I did with my replacement (with google) hero was to apply an invisible shield to it. I have not noticed any dust under the screen whatsoever.
Also, although it isn't exactly pretty, I found while applying the invisible shield that it did not cover the gap between screen and button pad. As a quick fix to this I cut a thin piece of invisible shield material that was left over and applied it over the crack/screen protector/button pad protector. Just for some extra protection.
For shocks, I have the phone in the HTC silicone case. My phone has taken a number of falls/skids across the ground and stuff and this combo has protected it completely.
Edit:
Almost forgot, my original also seemed to develop a wear mark on the metal button pad finish. It was as if a part of the layer had rubbed off and tarnished in a circular pattern.
about the dust under the screen...
i contacted htc about before. the person who i emailed replied to me saying that htc has a permanent fix for the problem, so you can send it in and they'll replace/clean the screen and apply some fix to it. catch is, you have to pay for S&H and you'll go without a phone for a bit

I have a ridiculous amount of dust in the lower left hand corner of my screen... so much so that part of the screen isn't visible anymore. Do you think Sprint would just let me exchange it for a new one? Or would I still have to go through HTC?

well i e-mailed htc about this twice. the first time they said that if the dust got bad enough, i could send it to HTC and they'd repair it. they also said this:
I understand how frustrating it can be for dust to collect under the screen of your device. We have recently learned that Sprint has a process in place to resolve this issue. Please contact Sprint for the location of your nearest Sprint Service and Repair facility. They are equipped to clean your device, and in doing so will be able to keep the issue from recurring in the future. I apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.

That's great to hear! Nice to know it's not like my Mogul was. They just kept giving me broken phones until I bought my hero....
I had heard about the dust problem before, and was glad that I didn't have that problem yet... After reading this thread, I decided to look again.... Now I do have dust in the bottom right
It seems to me that the problem is dust entering between the keypad and the screen, and then getting up underneath of the digitizer which doesn't seem to be against the LCD, which is strange, I think. Most handhelds I've taken apart have the digitizer glued around the edges directly to the LCD. Thank god that HTC and Sprint are actually addressing this problem. If someone does know how and where this seal is applied, I'd love to know. I might be taking mine back before too long, and I always would like to know what they're going to do beforehand.

Seriously you guys should have no problem exchanging that phone in warranty without TEP IF you take it to the shop and they cant resolve your dust issue they will ship you a remanufactured phone.

This is 100% inaccurate. I'm a Sprint tech and there is no process in place for repairing Hero's with dust in the screen. Sure I can take your phone apart and blow the dust out, but it will come back.

The stock roms sucks.
But seriously, same as everyone else
-Dust under screen
-Button paint chipping off
At least it isn't near as bad as the Touch Pro. My buddy and I both had one; he still has his... His volume buttons literally fell off, and all of the chrome stripping is held on with scotch tape. The sliding screen has a slight swivel to it. And, thanks to Microsoft, all of his texts are from 1016.
Actually, I'm considering taking my Hero apart and trying to figure out a fix on my own. I think I'll wait just a little longer... just to make sure nothing fails and I can't take it back. Or, is there anywhere I can buy those black stickers for the screw-heads?
I'm surprised none of you guys have seen this yet.

Interesting, I loved my Touch Pro, the only flaking or issues with the aesthetics I had were from where it met pavement once...there's also a .cab file your friend can download that will fix the date issue...I'd post a link but I'm not sure of XDA's linking policies to other sites, just google ".cab fix for touch pro sms date," it's one of the first results.
As far as bugs and manufacturer defects with my Hero go, I've had the phone for a little over a month now and haven't anything to report...it does lag a little at times but I've yet to find a rooting process that works for my Hero for whatever reason, it's the newest version with the "with Google" branding. The "one touch root" or whatever it was titled from unlockr didn't work, nor did the one I found on android forums.
I didn't get stuck in a bootloader or anything for either process, it's simply that neither one had any affect; I did follow both process to a "T." I'll get around to trying the tutorial I found on here (XDA) one day when I have time, although I must say, I kind of prefer the hacks and tricks of WinMo at this point.

[Q] Screen flicker - suspected hardware problem

Greetings,
I tried to search for this problem on this forum but I couldn't find anything specific to this device.
The tablet works fine in all aspects, except the screen flickers when the aluminum back is stressed, i.e. when its being held. The tablet screen will flicker in brightness as the back is pressed.
Usually the most reliable way to reproduce the problem is to flex the tablet, as if you were trying to split a piece of plastic into two by gradually flexing it until it breaks.
Therefore, I have concluded it is a hardware problem, but I don't know exactly what.
I apologize if I'm difficult to understand, and if you need any clarification, let me know.
Thank you everyone for your time.

Hey Kevin,
Yeah, seems like a hardware issue. But I advise not to "flex" the back too much
Probably could be 2 things.
1. Loose connector for the digitizer
2. Bad digitizer
3. Something grounding out against the case.
So my guess would be to spit the case apart. You can find videos on Google Search showing the procedure at You Tube. Then a good inspection of components, paying attention to connectors and the boards (for cracking).
I saw the other day that there are plenty of parts available for the 500, like digitizers, display glass and several other items. Check E-bay.

Thanks for your advice Moscow Desire. I've taken the back off before but noticed nothing unusual. Should I just take every component that can be separated out and inspect it? Sounds like a recipe for disaster for an inexperienced person like me.

Hi Moscow Desire,
I have taken my tablet apart with the instruction from the videos but I didn't see anything that is loosen so far. Do you think I will need to unscrew everything until I take out the screen to know what's wrong? My screen keeps flickering with white lines at the edge of the screen and it's really annoying. :crying:
Thanks!

It is a very common problem. You can keep exchanging it until you get a perfect one if it bugs you.
I personally would get a replacement unit if it was purchased new
From the look of your picture, it would seem only the one side has a gap. Are you sure the bottom is all the way in? I would try and remove the battery and re-seat the whole thing giving it a firm push on the left side to make sure it clicks into place. If it still doesn't and has the gap, I would return it.
That gap looks bigger than any other i have ever seen. Hmm is the battery all the way in? Try to push it a little to see if its all the way in. Otherwsie, i suggest to exchange it.
It's normal. If it's like the gap that i have, you only see it if you try to see it. I have on the left corner too. Can't see it when it's in a case.
I had the same issue, I knew this default and asked to change it the day one, I had a new one (perfect) the day after.
So yes, you should change it asap, for a "premium" phone you will regret.

As stated above make sure its in all the way.. If so exchange it just my 2 cents.
Sent from my VS987 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Have it replaced immediately. That's the only solution.
Yeah, common problem. I opened the box before I left the store to check because I knew it'd annoy the hell out of me. Get a replacement for sure.
It should sit perfectly flush, maybe give it a push and see if it clicks in (the connector on mine was a bit stiff at first)
Otherwise, back to the shop I reckon.
thank's guys for your reply. Already exchanged my phone. The new one is way better.
You should see my G5. Warped bottom from the phone piece, gap on one side of the phone, one side is higher than the other, screen and back are oval shaped, you name it.
Get that returned while you still can, and a warning from someone who has, do, not, drop, this, phone. It started to really mess up the build. Mine has started rattling from the battery being loose inside, a bit of electrical tape fixed it but janky albeit.

Yeah, it's a common problem for it to not line up quite right, but you shouldn't be able to see light through it. Mine lines up pretty well.
