is there any tools that will clear up space on the hd2 wm 6.5?? i had 130mb not its down to about 98mb,
there must be somewhere its eating it up, are there any tools/utilities that can create free space, or find out whats eating up the space, i.e. directories, or files, or both ??
Try this thread, it cleans some space:

You could also clear album and google-maps caches, as mentioned here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ight=htc+album
grtz
how can you transfer the caches to the memory card for both google maps and album ?

These kind of questions are mostly born out of a lazy attitude.
This is what I normally do irl to get people to move there own ass: ask a counter question.
Did you perform a search on, let say, album cache?

There you go, though I would suggest the search option next time
About moving it to the SD card; I'm going to have to agree with 4tune. It's on the forum.

Since i've had my Wizard, i've installed just about every single app on the storage card, but for some reason now when installing apps i keep getting a storage error, and that there is not enough space. My storage memoery say it has about 6mb free, which i guess is low, but i dont undertsand why this would be filling up?
I have tried to run a search on the large files, but these file are on the storage card? so i dont understand why the phone would complaining about this?
anyway to resolve this?
with some apps, you say to put it on the card but it still put some files on the PPc too, sorry there is no way around this, they just have to run part of it from the PPC
Don't forget that messages, attatchments and PIE cache take up space on the onboard storage, by default.
Thanks, i cleared the PIE cache which has made a big difference. Is there no software available that will tell us which apps are taking up so much space?

If you look here. This tweak program will let you store the IE cache on your storage card.
Also, in your email settings you can tell it to store attatchments on the storage card too.

The strange crap:
I take a photo, while I do it, somebody sends an sms.
I make it "save as read".
I finnish photo.
ALL OF THE sudden my internal STORAGE DROPS by
10MB!
I mean I have 10MB less....
And no, it's not the photos stored internally.....
Have you got any clue WHY??!!
How long was that SMS?
Haha, good one.
It was a new Murakami novel in sms form.....
But seriously I'm concerned!
What would instantly fill 10MB of storage?
Is there any log which would be so big??
cache? sms(lol)?, photo? Maybe just something in the background and it will come back later?
Well I also rebooted my X1 after that.
Didn't help.
Sms no as well as photo....
I will go through the folders...
Well, the Programs memory didn't change.
Just Storage.
Soooo strange.
Never happened before.
Listen I think it could be that when you have the camera turned on it caches everything if captures in a temporary folder even if you're not actually taking a picture. This can quickly be 10 MB. And it doesn't delete afterwards because ther SMS interrupts. So ceck your temporary folders and empty them. It sounds strange but it would be one possible explanation.
Maybe you default allocation unit size is like really high, the more stuff you put in your card, the more extra data it will take from your sd card. But the high the unit size the faster.
I am not tech geek so I am not sure if I am correct.

Lol you are correct, you mean Clustersize. But WTF 10 MB Cluster is impossible And I think he was talking about internal memory, not card storage.
Extreme thanks for replies!
Yes I will check my temp folders however I checked some of them and there are not many new files there, nothing big....
Of course I meant internal memory (not programs either).
I'll just add it never ever happened before.
You know, 10MB is ALOT.
Even the pics I took at this time were smaller in whole.
Really strange.
But by the way through walking through menus I moved 50MB
of preloaded films and music to sd card (I thought it was on card).
So I gained 50MB

Greetings everyone,
I'm new here and relatively newbish to HD2 (have it one month).
Id like to know what can I do to free some space on my device memory?
All tho I installed quite a lot of programs, I always installed them to storage card, so my guess is since device free memory is getting lower and lower
every time I check or install something, it's got to be some cache from Opera, google maps or programs maybe, temp. files from rar perhaps and similar.
So does anyone know for sure what can I delete in my device memory, in windows, etc and not damaging system...
Tried search but with no result...
i'd also like some advice on this too.....
memory depletion happens due:
- opera cache (\windows\opera9\profile\cache)
- IE mobile cache (\Windows\Profiles\Guest\cache)
- htc album cache (\application data\htc\htc album\cache) which is the greatest. i.e. if u have a alot of pics, then everytime you view them, ur album cache grows bigger and bigger and depletes memory.
My advice:
- install clear temp....it's free
- assign the custom folders in clear temp to the above folders.
clear ur cache with a press of a button. done
also everytime u install a program even if only to sd card, some files are installed on ur main memory. Only way to remove those minor files is by a hard reset. You can then assign shortcuts to ur sd card installed applications.

Put your apps on main mem and the phone will be more efficient in its overall use of phone RAM. Mem card installation does not save any RAM or really serve any logical purpose unless the app will not install to phone storage or you have used it all up.
Mem card installation slows the phone down and why on earth would you not use the main storage mem when thats what its there for?

Anything in main memory (storage mem) does not use up RAM therefore has no effect on it.

Tip 67
AND
delete google maps from main mem and make a fresh install with newest version on SD-card. This will also enable compass-direction to google maps.
Move copilot to SD-card with Resco explorer
u can try nd move ur cache folders to sd card but it all needs registry editing tweaks nd it may end up not working as for htc album cache for ex. so easiest is using clear temp my friend.

In the tips, where it mentions "moving" things to the SD card there is no "move" option so if the folder (eg "My Device\My documents\My Pictures
") is cut and pasted to the SD card will the OS/Phone know to redirect/look in the new location?

Of course not, I have some (I'll say advanced) knowledge in computers so I dont mix up some basic terms like this . I was thinking of Device memory (storage) not RAM. Since this windows mobile thing is relatively new to me, I wanted to know if deleting cache and temp. files does effect WM and Sense stability....

Oh, and one more question, I tend to switch themes made with HDWall frequently so when I install new theme, replacing old one, does it completely overwrite last one or I have enormous buildup of unused theme files on device memory?

You can't "get more internal storage". Try deleting some stuff though to free up more space, your one and only solution

Yea that's what I meant. Wasn't there something where you could move the dalvik cache to the SD card to free up lot of space?
Hmm yeah but moving the Cache to a slow Storage Card basically defeats the point of having cache.... Also I know a few people who have done it have ended up with unstable phones.
It would free up alot of space but its whether you wanna risk having to hardreset your phone if all goes tits up
Here is the Cyanogen How-To on moving the dalvik cache, im not sure how up to date it is though -->

I got google earth on the SD card.
I found my web browser eating a ton of data that it stores. If you clear it fully, it frees up around 10mb or more, depending on how long since you did it last, but be careful. It's very possible to delete your bookmarks and other important data depending on how you delete it.

Using Froyo's method? That moves like 4M of 20M for Google Earth.
If you want more space, you'll want to use the old apps2sd method, which moves EVERYTHING.
