This is a long shot but its there anyone (perhaps someone who cant be without a physical keyboard) who would like to swap their Hero for a G1?
I love SenseUI but can't use it on the G1 because even though it works, there is no blue tooth on any Hero G1 Roms and I have wireless blue tooth earphones.
There are some people who hate on screen keyboards and may have bought the hero thinking they could put up with it but would prefer a physical keyboard.
My G1 is in great condition.

Whaddaya think fellas? Any taker???
I don't really like the new G2 design....too much chin and they add that stupid my-fave button on bottom left corner. On top of that...still no 3.5mm headphone Jack !!!!!!
On the other hand, that "supposely" new Wing (Rhodium) is looking hot. I hope the screen is as big/hi-res as the touch HD....and run on android. that would be a dream phone....(pun intended). put a 5MP camera with auto-focus, dual xenon flash, and 3.5mm headphone jack and this phone will sure be a winner. I will pawn my G1 to fleaBay faster than israel drop phosporous bombs in the Gaza
Topaz C finally got something right....3.5mm jack....but majority of the new phones DO NOT have 3.5mm. When will HTC learn that miniUSB jack is such a nuisance....especially for high-end phones that run android
The Cedar look way too similar with the Treo, but the 3G excalibur (3G dash) look pretty good.
The firestone/Whitestone got some pretty good features, but lack of physical keyboard is a no deal for meh
Hero (android ver) looks pretty cute...for the geeky girls out there...but the Memphis....looks pretty disappointing...
I like the Tungsten better than Rhodium, maybe it's just the color scheme but both are nice and would be fine with WimMo (preferably Android). It has buttons. I like buttons, touch is only good for so much.
Sapphire? Like an aerodynamic Dream. Looks kinda like an egg. Not digging the Hero. It's like the opposite - a more jagged Dream.
As far as an Android phone goes I'll hold onto the Dream until Android's capabilities outgrow the hardware. I didn't like the design at fist when I got it but it has grown on me. They'll prolly all look cooler as finished products. Like with all HTC phones what's under the hood will be what sells me one it.
The only thing that would really convince me to upgrade out of Dream is VGA or WVGA display. Also, big minus points for the "Hero" if it really has no trackball or tactile buttons.

can't wait for it....
Samsung has an Android based phone with 5 megapixel with glash, and 8gig built in memory!! http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=4285
Slide-out keyboard or onscreen only?
That phone makes me horny.
http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/27/samsung-i7500-oled-handset-powered-by-android-dreams/
only going to be released in europe
hopefully itll find its way here through ebay
It looks like softkey only. Its to thin for a slide out. I will not get a phone without a slide out any more.
oh hell yea.......
love it!!
Phone looks good but lack of physical keyboard means I won't be getting it 8GB internal memory is friggin sweet though. *waves fist at HTC*
Still not gonna upgrade to anything less than a VGA or higher res screen.

+1... I've never had any luck with samsungs. Phone does look good though.
thats what I was just about to say... it will get nowhere if they dont put there capacitive screen.
I thought capacitive screens were mandatory on android...
Perhaps I'm wrong,
No slide out keyboard- camera may be nice but I type way more than I take pictures. And 16gb microSD card on G1 is already way more than enough for me. I prefer the trackball as well.
I see nothing really of value with the Samsung, but it is nice to see more Android handsets making their way out. If it has headphone jack, that may be a big plus.
I guess what excited me was 5mp camera with LED flash. I can't take pictures for **** with the Dream, even with SnapPhoto.
The Dream's full keyboard is nice, but also makes the phone feel somewhat flimsy from the separation of the screen and the keyboard. The creaking noises and stuff make it hard to sell people on this platform in general. Having something sexy like the Samsung and the Magic will broaden the Android market I'm thinking -- people just want iPhone style these days. Sad, but true.
Always has been the case though -- Apple has dominated the "Style" factor, while other platforms trounce it on functionality, extensibility, compatibility, etc.
It does sound awesome, but you can now get the G1 for $99 from Sam's Club (with 2-year agreement) and I am sure that is way less than what this Samsung will cost you...and really, does the difference in price justify the ever so slight improvement on hardware...not really.
The 8MB on-board memory is a pretty significant thing here. Perhaps when more phones have such a large amount of memory, it will allow much larger apps on the Android Market.
I dont care about the memory because sd cards are cheap. But even though I hate the dream's keyboard I would still want one
no physical keyboard = no physical reason to buy
This got me curious. W/o the physical keyboard, how do you type in recovery console?
How is the screen sensitivity on the Magic.. Is it like the HTC Diamond or the Iphone?
I'm guessing it's the same as the G1/Dream, which is similar to the iPhone. The Diamond uses a resistive touch screen as opposed to the capacitive ones of Magic/Dream/iPhone. Capacitive is much more sensitive and responsive.
I would assume that as well, but would REALLY like to know for sure from someone who has used it as soon as anyone can comment on it.
just like iPhone mate.
I got a HTC magic from Vodafone in the UK yesterday and I've been playing with it pretty much non stop since
I previously had a HTC Kaiser (running a version of Android ported by dzo on this forum) and the screen on the Magic is considerably more sensitive. In fact at first I found it a bit difficult to use as I was applying way too much pressure (you use a lot less on a capacitive screen than on a resistive screen like most win mo phones).
I've compared it with my housemates HTC G1 and the screen does seem a tad more responsive to lighter touches. My only complaint is that I find swiping motions can sometimes be a bit difficult as there can be a bit of friction between my finger and the screen surface. Not that bad, it just feels a little uncomfortable at first.
My iphone was much more reponsive. Found myself missing letters on the magic keyboard due to not pressing hard enough.
I've got HTC Kaiser and Blackberry Storm (the latter goes back to store tomorrow for being crap phone). The screen on Magic is much more sensitive than on Kaiser and similar to the one on Storm (apart from that dreadful 'clicky' thing). Overall I am very pleased by it.
I have the iPhone 3G and the magic.
And the Sony X1.
The magic screen is not very responsive.
Many letters are not recognized.
The iPhone ones is much better.
I think the config has to be changed.
All in all I am disappointed. I hat the G1 and the whole system was much faster than the magic ones.
I sende it home to vodafone.

That DOES sound like a faulty unit, as all other reviews I've seen say it is more responsive than the G1.
disclaimer: I don't have my hands on the Magic yet.
Hi
no, I tested another in the shop and it is the same.
I guess you only realize it when you have the other device too for testing

So Android in general is running faster on the HTC Dream than on the Magic? The Magic has the same processor as the Dream and more RAM - then the difference in performance must be due to the Magic sporting Android 1.5 Cupcake?
I'm running a cupcake rom on my g1 and its faster than befor. So I don't think that's it. I don't have nor have seen a real magic. But the would not be becase of cupcake
Would you guys say it is a good idea to buy the touch diamond 2 as a replacement for the Fuze? I'm considering this, but I would like to hear the opinions of people who have used both phones.
Thanks
That's a tough question. I did upgrade from the Fuze but my circumstances were unique. My Fuze screen stopped working due to water damage so I cashed in the insurance policy and got a new Fuze that I sold on Ebay for $270. I bought the Pure with no contract for $350. I surprisingly don't miss the full keyboard at all. I think the call quality is somehow better on the Pure unless I'm just imagining things and it fits in the pocket a lot better and is a lot lighter. I just installed the latest NRGZ rom and it looks so much better on the Pure with the extra screen real estate. My thoughts were that I was going to try it and if I don't like I'll pay the $35 exchange fee and get the TP2 when it comes out this month(hopefully). So far I'm keeping the Pure as a holdover until WM7 phones are out.

I had the fuze for 5 months and while I did enjoy quick typing on the slide out keyboard, after a few hours typing on the Pure with the soft keyboard I find I don't need the bulk of the keyboard after all.
This phone is definetely a keeper.
Yeah, for the msot part, I've noticed that I use the on-screen keyboard in potrait on the Fuze.
Also, did you have to pay a deductible of $125 when you were putting in your phone for water damage?

Edit: idk why it double posts. This has happened more often, even on other forums. :-\
(and no, I don't press post reply twice)
Yea I've always hated the thickness the keyboard added. I find that I'm using my onscreen keyboard in portrait mode more and more often because I normally don't have both hands free to type on the slide-out keyboard. Plus I'm thinking the lack of some sort of Dpad would be hard to live with. Is there a hack to make the zoom slide bar work as directional keys?
The xT9 actually works very well with the EzInput2.1 I have cooked in my OC TP rom. I'd imagine it would be just a lovely on the Pure.
All in all I'd really have to see how it feels in my hands. My current Fuze has burn-in, which I plan on getting replaced. I still have all the original packaging and stuff from the Fuze, which I was planning on selling on ebay or craigslist perhaps. I was thinking I wanted at least $200.
Is anyone coming from a G1 or other keyboarded device. Hows the touch screen typing going on the Evo.
Coming from Touch Pro 2 here and before that Palm Treo. I don't like the touch keyboard but I'm getting better with it. Still make a ton of mistakes. Haven't gotten the hang of the auto-correction feature either.
I just came for a G1 today to an Evo. It is sensitive, but not the same. It's ok. My favorite keyboard phone was my Motorola Q9h, that I could use one handed. My G1 was ok, but needed 2 hands, so the change to the Evo is less of a difference I guess since I need 2 hands still.
Spend a week with swype.
