Shortcuts on TF3D Home Screen? - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Apologies if I am asking a very silly question but I have noticed that one of the main difference between the TD2 & HD2 Home screen seems to be that on the latter you can place shortcuts to frequently used apps whilst on the former you do not appear to be able to do so.
Is this because I am missing something being a newbie, and if so could some one point me in the right direct OR is this in fact the case but there is a tweak somewhere out there athat allows one to do this on a TD2?
I very much like the TF3D interface apart from the apparent lack of being above to place shortcuts to favorite apps on that Home screen.
Again apologies if this is a silly question...but am just starting out in the world of TF3D.

WM6.5 for TD2 has 9 shortcuts on home screen.
To increase to 16 or 20 shortcuts there is Max manila themes.

Hi Bruce
Thanks for the prompt reply but some further questions if I may?
"WM6.5 for TD2 has 9 shortcuts on home screen." Is this in addition to the tab 'strip' that one can scroll through and then select a specific tab to display? If so then how do I nominate/get a user defined app to display on the Home screen?
"To increase to 16 or 20 shortcuts there is Max manila themes." What is max manila Themes and how do I get hold of it/install it (if that is what one needs to do)?
Many th anks in anticpation of your patience & time in helping a TF3d newbie.

The shortcuts eliminated the Program tab. This is not available in 6.5 to my knowledge.
Find a WM6.5 Rom and you will be able to select your shortcuts the same way as you used to do in the programs tab. Just click on blank box and it pulls up a list.
For Max Manila theme, start here.

Hi Bruce
Thanks for your further response...and apologies for mine in responding to it but I am in the run up to Xmas and reaping the 'benefits' of being in a service industry.
Have read the link on Max manila but do not quite understand what the app is and how it is installed. Is it just a tweaker applciation or does it make fundemental changes to the stock installation from HTC that comes with the phone? Is uninstallation just that, ie, like any other application, and the device reverts to the stockset up before Max Manila was installed?
Apologies for the further questions. IF you do not have the time to respond in detail perhaps you could point me to a summary of Max manial, who it works, is installed, etc., if you know of such a resource.
Many thanks in advance for any further assistance that you are able to provide.

Basically Max Manila is a theme that installs over your manila and is completely uninstallable. What it does is gives you options for changing your clocks, addding more shortcuts, background for all tabs, etc.
Installing and uninstalling does not wipe any data, it is only for appearances and functionality.
You just find the cab that matches your manila build, but mostly it will be either the max 2.5 or 2.6 that work on your device. If it hoses up your phone and doesn't work, you just uninstall and try another version.
Sorry I can't be more complete but I too am suffering from year end woes as I am in Finance.

Hi Bruce
Thanks for the reply in spite of being set too with Year End.
I think that I have got the basics and as it is completely uninstallable I will be brave and give it a try. Interestingly enough if I am correct my TD2 uses Manila 2.1919xxx rather than 2.5xxxxxxx and so it look slike I am stuck with the first of the CABs given in one of the post in the thread that you have provided. If there are owners with Manila 2.5xxxxxxx loaded as standar on their TD2 then it looks like I have been unlucky...but there you go.
Have a great Festive break...and thanks again for your help.

Manila Version
Hi
This is exactly what I have been looking for. However I dont know what my manila version is.
My ROM is the standard Uk T-Mobile 6.5 ROM.
I tried looking in the ABOUT settings, but that just has version numbers for os
it says CE OS 5.2.21854 (Build 21854.5.0.80)
I maybe being a bit of a doughnut here, but looking at the above.... is 2.21854 the Manila version?

Hi there
I have had trouble finding out the Manila version on my TD2 but believe that manila 2.5 is only officially, ie, by HTC ROM, for the Leo or HD2. Therefore it suggests that your official stock ROM is at Manila 2.1...like mine.
Will post back if I can find a way of finding the actual Manila version displayed.

Hi Bruce
Max Manila Theme for 2.1 successfully installed but I have a couple of small questions...if you would be kin enough to spare me the time:
1. Can this be installed on the SD card or must it be/is it better to install to the Device?
2. Is there any way of customising the settings that are shipped with MMT for 2.1? In the thread I have seen options but I am wondering of this is for the 2.5 version rather than the one that I am limited to given my Manila version.
Thanks in advance.

Hey Baldrick,
1. Install to device, it will not run from storage card.
2. Most development is continuing on the 2.5 and beyond. Some of the list of files are for 2.1, they should be identified as such but I don't recall.
Try a few clocks, backgrounds etc. if they don't work, you can always uninstall.
**Important**- ANYTHING that interfaces with your Home screen, contact programs, themes, clocks, any customizations must be installed on the device.
Happy Holidays.

Hi Bruce
Thanks for that. Have installed on the device...was just a thought.
Having trouble identifying add ons for 2.1 as most seem to be for 2.5, obviously...and I have not plan to install a 2.5 ROM.
Obviously the Settings options are new for 2.5 rather than 2.1...which is a shame but there you go. Can't even find the MMT folder under which you are supposed to install further customisations but I dare say I will take some time over the break to check my phone more carefully.
Thanks for your help.
Happy Holidays to you to!!!!

Touch Flo v.3.0 available on HD?

Simple question.
I've read about the new features of the 3rd version of Touch Flo (on the upcoming HTC Touch Pro 2 and Diamond 2) and they are quite interesting.
I just wondered whether by any chance this new version could be installed on the HTC HD (once it's out of course)
Thx
there are already tons of custom roms with this new tf3d
Oh! I wasn't aware of that... have an example so I can test it?

well... i always do my home work before posting, that is why i did ask question...i could not find any cab, and believe me i spent hours looking throughout our gigantic forum...

There is no "cab" install and there never will be.
This isn't just an application you install on your phone - it's a complete system overhaul, with new TF3D, with all new and / or updated system applications: phone, calendar, contacts, call history, calculator, browser etc.
Let me illustrate however the difference between the stock ROM and the custom cooked ROM's available here on XDA. It's like going from Skoda to latest Ferrari.
That means you'll get a lot of great looking stuff, many cool applications already included, everything will be as new as possible, you'll be running at MUCH faster speed, but you also have to accept that you'll "burn more gas" - battery life may take a small impact.
Is it worth it? Well, it's like you bought a new device, so - yes.

If you flash a ROM that already includes the new manila it will probably be alot smoother because the ROM will be optimized and tweaked for it! If you install it over the old Manila it probably won't give you the best experience... Also, the newer ROMs not only include the new Manila, but also things like finger-friendly menus!
really is that true???

I'm pretty new to all this as well and had a lot of difficulty figuring it out! What I think happens is this: The ROM is a bit like the BIOS so you can't modify it within WM6.1. Also, the original ROMs are protected so you can't replace them with an unofficial version (they are signed).
To get around this, you can use something like Hard SPL (which overwrites the existing ROM) or USPL (which works around it).
I finally went with USPL2.5 and Dutty's extreme ROM v2.6.
Incidentally, I'm not really noticing much of a speed improvement... Especially with the music player which now takes a second to load up... Am I meant to?

TouchFLO, Manila, 2D, 3D ???

I remember reading somewhere that Touch3G aka Jade has TouchFlo 2.
But on my Jade if I go to Settings/System/TouchFLO it says:
TouchFLO version 3.0 (build 31508).
So what do I have? Manila, Touchflo, 2D, 3D ??? Could somebody please explain the HTC language to me?
Also, specific to the Jade, what is the difference between themes and skins? Isn't it the same? I am reasonably computer literate, but like clear definitions of things.
Reading through the posts on Manila modifications, one poster stated:
What version of TouchFLO have you installed? You need to have at least M2D version 20
How come that my phone is new, and I only have version 3??
Thanks for help
Joe
Manilla 2D
The Jade has TouchFlo 2D (as in 2 dimensional) also known as Manila 2D, TF2D or M2D.
Themes and skins are, afaik, the same, and the person stating that you have to have at least version 20 means version 2.0 actually.
'Manila' btw is HTC's codename for the Touchflo interface
Touchflo 3D (also known as Manila 3D, TF3D of M3D) is a different story.
Whether a HTC phone has TouchFlo 2D or 3D depends on the capacity and resolution of the screen. The Jade has a QVGA screen (quarter VGA aka 240 x 320 pixels) and can't handle the TF3D animations and touch posibilities.
A phone with a VGA screen (640 x 480 pixels), like the Diamond, usually has Touhflo 3D.
Fellow forumers, plz correct me if i'm wrong....but this is what i know.
Hope i helped you out a bit
Thank you Nirak for help. So I have TouchFLO 2D v.3.
If have a few more questions for those who modified their Touchflo -
If I want to change my Touchflo, I understand I have two choices -
Uninstall it (don't know how) and find and install a new one; or
modify the existing one with registry edits and/or Manila Customiser.
This Customiser - is it basically a new additional program that runs alongside the existing TouchFLO, or is it something like a registry editor that only modifies the existing TouchFLO and can be later uninstalled?
Thanks
Joe

If you want to change (I assume modify/customise) you can do many things including changing the registry, yes and also change the graphics, etc.

AFAIK, briefly the customiser (M2DC) does not run alongside. It's just a program that does (simplify) the registry editing and a few *.xml files (for customisation) for those who do not wish to dwell into. yes M2DC can be uninstalled (after using) and TF2D runs fine.
I am not sure how to uninstall TF2D but you can always deactivate if you do not wish to use it and use other today themes or plugins, etc.
uninstalling TF2D that is included (cooked) in your ROM is not possible, but as Azahidi says, you can deactivate it and use the standard Windows interface, or any other shell you prefer, like SPB Mobile Shell, and there are others.
Basically TF2D is also just a shell round your Windows Mobile System, that's suppossed to make it easier to use (not always is...) and more 'eye candier' .
The M2DCustomizer is a easy to use utility to modify the settings of TF2D and use other skins, look over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427392
and here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425974 (older skins)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=451702
Since i'm not that much of a techi i like using M2D Customizer, but just like Azahidi says, these modifyings can also be done by editing the registry and/or .xml files
To give you an idea, here is a screenshot of my Jade's homepage with basically the standard TF2D, modified with another skin:
Thanks azahidi and Nirak.
I've been reading all those posts several times, it is starting to make some sense.
Looking at the M2D Customizer - I believe it will back up the existing factory Touchflo and I can restore it if the mods did not work or I did not like them. Is this correct?
Apart from other mods, I would like to change the email widget to a 'Tasks' widget. I would like to see a different icon instead of the envelope and instead of the sheet of paper sticking out of the envelope I would like to see a list of tasks etc.
I don't think that the Manila Customiser can do that. Is that correct?
And I don't think I could achieve this by getting a new skin, could I ?
Maybe there is a program somewhere to design a complete shell from scratch on desktop PC??
Joe
I think you should test Spb-Mobile Shell 3. It is very good.

You can install anything on your device, depending on the purpose and your liking, and how you want to customise your today screen. Yes you can install Manilla2D (TF2D). Just search xda, get (download) the .cab file to your PC, copy to your device (or download straight to your device) and then run it.
Many thanks for your answer azahidi.
I tried to install M2D as you told me. I folowed the guide witch is here. So that I have installed HTC Home v 2.1. and after that [11.3.08-Update 20] M2D Build 1.0.18203328 - Jade (TOUCH 3G Version). Restarted device, but nothing happened. When I turn my Home screen as TouchFLO, on my screen appeares text: "Tap here to launch TouchFLO" and when I tap there, the whole device becomes to be totally frozen.
Can anyone help?

I greatly agree. SPB Shell is 10 times better and user friendlier then TF2D. I had TF2D for about a week and tried out SPB Shell 3.5 and I have never gone back. I am one happy customer.

Looking for a few more things...

I just got the TP2 for USCC last week. (WM6.5) I haven't used WM in about 2 years and am pretty dissapointed to find a lot of the same issues that were present then. I used to be a fairly competent WM user with above average knowledge in registry editing, ROM flashing, etc but most of what I used to use seems to have changed. So far I have found the fixes for the sms sent notification and the organization of the contact list by last name, first to first, last.
I've been all over these forums and cannot find a fix to disable the onscreen keyboard from auto-popping...ever. Also, in the sound settings menu, there is a slider to adjust ringer volume and another to adjust system volume yet these two don't work independently. I want system volume loud for hearing things like my IM app that runs in the background yet have the ringer volume lower as it's over bearing on full.
Something else I have noticed is that some settings menus appear to be there but not functioning. For instance, under settings>all settings>today there is a 2nd tab for items that does not change from the appearance tab. I've notice several menu's like this throughout the phone. It seems like there are things that other versions of WM may have had that this doesn't or simply that Microsoft/HTC got lazy in the initial release and either did not remove tabs that were not intended to be there or forgot to finish some that should. Just wondering if anyone has some insight into this.
I'm also looking for a good free IM client. I've seen many apps across these forums but with so many out there, it's hard to find the right one for me. I refuse to pay $45 for Agile messenger (although I've seen hacked versions but I would prefer not to deal with that). It's a decent app, not great but decent but $45 for a very simple app is outrageous. So, I found Slick ( http://slick.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile ) which is a free app and works great! The only feature it is missing that I liked about Agile is a notification (similar to the annoying sms message sent notification that I removed) while the app is in standby. Does anyone know of another free IM app that is simple and has that feature? I only use Google Talk and have noticed some apps specifically for that but there are so many to try, I'm hoping someone has a good recommendation to save me some time.
The last thing I'm curious about pertains to Manila. I see Manila all over these forums. I've done some reading on it and have a good understanding of what manila is. But, it's very confusing as some thread talk about reflashing ROMS for it and others talk about installing cabs over your current rom for it. Does anyone have a link to a good thread(s) that will explain things more clearly so I can make an educated decision on the best way to try this out? A, Manila for Dummies, if you will.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Edit: It looks like the "Manila" Touch Flo design is incorporated in WM 6.5 on my device already? Is this mainly the custom tabs located at the bottom of the today screen?

First of all, TF3D/TouchFlo3d, Manila, or Sense are essentially the same thing. It's a skin designed by HTC to cover up WinMo. You may say it's actualy just a very elaborate Today screen plugin. Since it takes up the whole screen, you would not be able to add other items.

See above for a crude definition. There are many versions, so that's why there's so much discussion in these forums about them. People are trying to use versions that didn't come stock with their devices.
TF2D or Manila 2D - for budget devices like the Touch Vivo, Touch Cruise, etc
TF3D v1 - originally came on the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro
TF3D v2- came with the Touch Diamond 2 and our Touch Pro2.
TF3D v2.1 - came with the release of the official WinMo 6.5 ROM for the Touch Diamond2 and our Touch Pro2. Identifiable with the weather under the clock in the Home tab.
TF3D v2.5 - came with the release of the Touch HD2. Has customizable shortcuts on the Home tab, revamped People tab, coverflow-like Pictures tab and Music tab when in landscape, and other goodies.
Btw, going forward, you may want to list out what you're asking in bullet point form. Most people are put off by long essay-like posts. You'll get more responses if your post is clear and short.

That actually clears it up quite a bit. So it appears that my CDMA TP2 with USCC is actually 2.1 or 2.5? I see you stated our TP2 is is 2.1 but your description of 2.5 seems to fit my phone. Either way, it looks like I can just addon on any Manila Cabs that customize the home screen more as Manila is already installed?
Btw, going forward, you may want to list out what you're asking in bullet point form. Most people are put off by long essay-like posts. You'll get more responses if your post is clear and short.

Sorry about that, I was reading though forums for about 2 hours after the bar last night when I typed all of that. I tend to get a bit winded when I'm intoxicated.

Where else are there menu options that doesn't look like they belong? Anyway, if there are, then it's because of Microsoft and not HTC. We're on WinMo is on version 6.5 now, but it really hasn't changed much since I first used a pocket PC back in 2000.

Certainly, there are components that are possible to install via cabs. But often, you'll need to flash a ROM with the particular build of Manila that you want to get those features.
So just to clear this up, if something is made for TF3D v2, it should (or might) work with our CDMA TP2 running the stock @M6.5 rom?
Also, anyone have a fix for the keyboard thing? I remembered the name of the cab i used to use, null keyboard but can't find anything that works with this rom. I've tried a few reg edits that have not worked.

It should, yes. However, if you have a TP2 with WM 6.5 you most likely have Manila 2.1 (in my case 2.1.191937). If you go to the Settings tab and scroll down, you should be able to see which version you have. That being said, many cabs work on all versions, a good few has to have a more specific version (like 2.0, 2.1 or 2.5) and a mere handful needs to be spot on (e.g. 2.1.1717).
After installing such a CAB you often need to restart your TF3D/Manila/Sense, and to do so you go to Start > Settings > Today and tick off HTC Sense. Tap OK and go back in to tick the HTC Sense box again. That restarts your TF3D.
Hope that made sense.
Thx for the clarification, I think I'm ready to start customizing this thing! I'm a bit hesitant as I really like alot of the features that come with the stock home screen. My last windows device was the 8125 and I modded the **** out of that home screen but this one I simply want to add a few highlights without loosing the over all look.
One thing I have been curious about is if there is a way to put a google search bar under the calendar. I know Google apps will put one up but then I have to go to my programs tab and open google apps so I might as well just eliminate a step and open opera.
I haven't checked to be honest with you, but I am satisfied with moving the internet tab a few notches closer to the home screen tab. I find that to be quick and easy enough! One tab on the tab and the google search is at the top of the screen.
Thanks for all the help! You gave me the tools I needed to dive back in. I understand the differences in Manila's now as I've flashed about 5 or 6 different roms. 2.5 is slick in theory, especially when Dusk Evolution v2.0 is theme is added but I had to return to 2.1. Thanks again for the help to get me started.
Im client look at PalRingo.. it's pretty awesome and covers most major networks (yahoo, MSN, gmail, facebook chat, icq others.
Yes, that's what I currently use. Kind of an old thread now too. I've come a long way since I started this thread.

Help with Transparent Clock

Hi all,
I am trying to install a Transparent Clock but am having little luck.
Ideally I would like the transparent clock w/ weather found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589181
I have tried that one as well as Matt's Crystal Clock. Can't get either to work - my clock does not change (even after soft reset).
I am thinking (but hoping not) it has something to do with my (and sorry I am new to this) windows version and/or manila version and/or TF3D version ???
I have WM6.1, TF3D 2.1.38420.2, and I am sad to say I don't even know how to check what manila I have...
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Ryan

If it is a regluar TP2 (unbranded), go to HTC.com and download the WM 6.5 ROM and install it on your phone. That gives you WM 6.5 and a Sense 2.1 (which has the weather clock).
Just make sure you backup your contacts and other info you might need, because it's like formatting a PC - everything gets deleted. It's worth it though and shouldn't take more than 15 mins to do. Then you get your weather clock AND the Crystal Clock CAB will work ;-)

Hey, thanks a lot. I do not have an unbranded one however, I have Verizon. I checked HTC.com and it says wm6.5 for Verizon will be available in Dec/Jan.
I am assuming I should wait for that or would it be "safe" to download the unbranded one ???
Thanks

Well you could try to find an unofficial ROM here on the forums that might work, but I must admit I haven't tried out any of them myself. Personally I'd just wait the few weeks until the official version was released, but it's up to you
Downloading an unbranded one from HTC.com won't work, however. There is more to it than that - check out the Rhodium ROM forums for more info. Good luck anyway
Install this, soft reset
How come none of the transparent clock, i've installed like 3 of them doesns't work on stock roms (sprint).
I have TF3D 2.1
Am i missing something?

HTC Home Customizer?

Is there something like the old HTC Home Customizer that will work for the Touch Pro2? I've spent the last hour wading through this forum trying to find a way to replace the awful, 1970's flippy clock with a simple digital clock.
Is there a solution ?

Only for Sense 2.5. Keep in mind.

If Sense == Manila, then the programs mentioned are of no help. I have Manila 2.1, and already screwed up the phone once trying to use a 2.5 program.
I hope someone doesn't chime in "Well just flash a new ROM." Unless someone can show me a compelling reason, (and a detailed list of the changes it would introduce), I'm not interested in doing that.
You need to update your signiture so that we know what you're running first of all

If you do want to go this route but don't want to flash a new rom (which its insanely insanely easy)

another alternative... which I haven't tried myself as I always have just flashed is just to install 2.5 via a cab...
Manila Sense 2.1 / 2.5 *Updated March 11, 2010*
looks fairly simple:
-Steps for Sense 2.5 2012 Installation (INSTALL ALL TO DEVICE MEMORY):
1. Install .net 3.5
2. Install SDKCerts
3. Disable Auto Phone Shutoff:
-If on battery power: Settings\System\Power\Advanced and uncheck Turn off device if not used for
-If on external power: Settings\System\Power\Advanced and uncheck Turn off device if not used for
4. Disable TF3D 2.0 (Go to Start/Settings/Today/Items and uncheck HTC Sense or TF3D)
5. Soft Reset
6. InstallSense 2.5 2012 CFC / Sense 2.5 2012 CFC Mirror (CFC Compressed and includes all fixes. Once settled in, it runs very well! It also includes some new tabs and many tweaks/goodies! Plus, the multimedia key is now mapped to rotate the screen)
7. Soft Reset
8. Once everything is loaded and stable:
Enable Auto Phone Shutoff:
-If on battery power: Settings\System\Power\Advanced and check Turn off device if not used for
-If on external power: Settings\System\Power\Advanced and check Turn off device if not used for

That never occurred to me. I have the forum set to not display sigs, since I find some just annoying. I usually try to give all that info in the initial post. I'm running a TP2 with WM 6.5 upgrade and Manila 2.1

I had looked at that thread earlier, but all the clocks are still flippy type. Hasn't anyone done straight digital clocks for Manila? Something like tjis from older phones?

My issue with flashing ROMS isn't difficulty, it's having a definitive reason to do so, and finding a clear description of the changes in the ROM.
Thanks for the tip on installing manila 2.5. Didn't know that could be done. But looking at a comparison of 2.1 and 2.5, I don't see an advantage, and see a couple of disadvantages.

There is an EVO ROM that has a customizer built in by the cook. I used that ROM for a little while, but really like the customizer, you could change the flip clock, analog clock, clock background, font and other things. This was a really nice feature. I have searched for an add-on or standalone app that I could install that would do this as well. Customizing is the main thing we are ALL trying to do here.
Anybody had any luck with this?!
