email doesnt work using data connection, only wlan...how to fix that or you cant fix that?
yep. have had the same issues.. even weirder is that the internet does work but not mail.. not sure if restarting might help, I gave up.
Everything works for me too, just email doesnt update itself when I press receive and send, not even data connection is established.
I have same problem with live msn, but there at least connection establish itself, but then I get connection error...
Everything else using data connection works...
I've found exactly the same thing - some applications only seem able to access the internet when my HD2 is plugged in to my PC or using wifi.
make sure in settings/all settings/connections/connestions under your proxy settings you do NOT use the "connect using proxy server"
My phone provider uses proxy, in manual setting is written you should select this option...if i set it off...everything will work or settings there will be deleted and i will have problems with internet connection then...?
For my provider (Vodafone) the written instructions are to use proxy also, however without it all is working-class perfect, mail AND internet. just try it. At the customerservice they told me that for the high-speed connections as the HD requires the standard settings simply aren't correct.
i had exactly the same problem and i figured out that it was because the opera / connection registry tweaks ive found in "Leo Hints&Tips" thread... Reverted everything to original values and it worked for me ...
I dont use any tweaks except bsb tweak and email didnt work before i had bsb tweaks...
I have almost the same issue... Everything works over the data connection except Remote Desktop.
Proxy disabled btw. What gives?

Please don't kill me but I want to know
HOW to make use WiFi instead of network on browsers and mail, once I connect?
once you connect you to a wifi network it should be just like using wifi on your computer.
a more specific question or example may allow someone to help you more.
The phone uses Wifi where possible by default. However as my push mail is running over the Vodafone Internet APN I have found some occasions where my browsing session wasn't using Wifi.
So I created my own homepage which tells me the IP address I'm on and works out if it's my wifi router or the Vodafone Internet. It also has all my bookmarks, which is a better than the built in solution from Opera.
If you aren't using the GPRS all day, try NoData which can block all GPRS usage.

Aha, the old friend from MySymbian
Well I'll try that NoData but good to hear X1 wants to use it by default (when connected). I don't use any push messages.
It's a Vodafone ROM thing. if you flash to another ROM it will work fine.
WiFi problem
No man, I have a Vodafone UK Xperia. problem with Wifi initially, then I've ROM it to the generic UK version...now it connects to Wifi but I cannot browse anything with it. The pages don't load and status keeps saying 'loading...' but nothing happens and after a min or so, a message saying that I have to check my internet connection...not connected!

Then you have your Wifi settings incorrect.
How come u say my Wifi settings are incorrect? How can I correct it? In wat way? my laptop etc connects to the Wifi fine...and the phone as well...but it just that the phone doesnt seem to load anything from internet when I'm connected.
First Check if you used the correct Key for your wifi if thats fine then ....
I've never had this problem with the xperia but I have had with other windows mobile phones it was probable because of older versions of windows mobile, if wifi is connected fine go to Settings -> Connections Tab -> Connections -> Advanced Tab -> Select Networks, then select My Network for both drop downs.

Because you are unable to surf the internet, which points to either the settings entered incorrectly (normally when using WEP) or your router needs a firmware upgrade.
Ok here's a complete answer to my question
HOW to make X1 to connect to WiFi ONLY:
Install NoData (thanks for tip!!!)
Turn this on to NOT transfer any network data.
All the browsers I tried (Opera Mini 4.2, Opera Mobile 9.5)
automatically connect by WiFi, so it's great.
Email NOT. But it's enough to
go to email account settings and in advanced server settings instead of your providers network
choose "The Internet".
Violaa, the email account also connects through WiFi.
Hope that helps somebody
Where do i get no data please
There's one topic here called no data cab file!!
Just find it and it's there!
i got problems with my fritzbox 7270, too.
but i solved it.
just set the 802 adaptor manual to your wifi settings.
free ip adress in your segment, gateway, nameserver.
i think its a dhcp problem, with my 7270.
Logs in fine when on wi-fi but whenever I try on 3G (on T-mobile UK) get the following messaget:
"There's a connectivity problem. Make sure you're in an area with good reception and try again."
Reception is fine with online browsing and everything else working through the 3G connection. On version 10.6.0042.1900 of Windows Live Messenger. Anyone else had this?
Do you have your data plan connection set up to use a proxy? I found that no matter what I did I could not receive mail or connect to msn over 3G if that setting was enabled.
Just go to Settings->Connections->Advanced->Select Networks->(select your connection under Internet)->Edit...->Proxy Settings
Here tick "This network connects to the Internet" and untick "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet".
That fixed my problem. Hope it helps

Maybe t-mobile blocking it? They do say you aren't supposed to use IM.

I do this and a few minutes later the proxy server is back again. I cannot stop it from returning. Will a registry edit make it go away permanently?
Hi Guys,
I have been searching the forum and the net for most of the day trying to resolve this one.
I have a T Mobile Vario IV and have reflashed it with Proven ROM 2.4 and the up-to-date radio. I use a hosted exchange server (sherweb) for my email, contacts and calendar.
When using wi-fi, the internet and activesync works perfectly and I synchronised my contacts and email folders using this after the reflash.
When using the T-Mobile data connection, the internet works fine but activesync is not able to talk to the exchange server and times out with a message suggesting checking connection settings. I have checked, checked and checked again all the gprs and data settings and they are all as advertised. I have even resorted to asking T-Mobile for a configuration message for data settings which didnt work either.
It seems that Activesync is not able to do its job via the T-Mobile data connection.
Does anybody have any ideas at all?
Thanks in advance
Chris
PS - The activesync worked fine over the T-Mobile data connection before the reflash.
UPDATE!
Sorted it out in the end, make sure that you UNCHECK the "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet" option under START-SETTINGS-CONNECTIONS-CONNECTIONS-TMOBILE-INTERNET-PROXY SETTINGS
Originally I had the vodafone firmware and my email would only work through GPRS or wifi.
I reflashed with firmware R2A generic and it was working fine through both GPRS and wifi.
Randomly one day it just stopped working. I can now only access my email using wifi. I can't log into windows live unless i'm on wifi either, but the internet, google maps and dashwire all work using gprs
Email says
Error Syncronising
and i get a system message saying
Cannot connect wtih current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings.
But obviously I don't know what to change because the other things I mentioned work fine. I get the same problem if I start the data connection first
I would check in settings->connections->connections->advanced-select network
if the 2 dropdown are set to my homenetwork it will only use wifi to access
Please check my topic, i kinda have the same problem......

Hi guys. once more I'm trying to find whats preventing my email account to connect using the wifi connection. It seems as it will only connect through 3g data connection. I've tried everything. the only thing I can think of now is that there's a problem with the wifi modem driver because as you can see in the pic below it wont appear as a modem connection:
can anyone check is they have another option there that I dont?
It'd be very appriciated. Thanks!
i face the same problem, I couldnt send email using wifi except 3G.
Well than lets find out whats wrong! Do you have those same options like I have?
I think that people that have a working email client should have another option there for the broadcom etherenet card and I want to compare.
Why are you going so "deep" in the "useless" settings?
Set your network cards to connect to "the internet", not "work", and set the email client to use "the internet"... and everything will work together nicely.
It does not work that way. When I send/recieve I get this messege:
Cannot connect
Dialed:
The answering modem has disconnected. To check your modem connection settings and change them if needed, tap settings.
Bump.
Cant someone just look and tell me wheter he has the same options like the pic in the first post? maybe he has diffrent/more options?

That would mean your 3G connection doesn't work either... but you did say it was working earlier, right?
I'm on WM 6.5 and the screen is different. But in the options I only have 3, Bluetooth is absent.
BUT that screen is not related to wifi at all, so your problem should not be there.
This connection screen is set by the configurator for your country/operator to get the data/mms connection settings. If those work, the problem is somewhere else.
If it helps .... I only have the 3 options you have. BUT I am pretty sure that the screen shot you showed has nothing to do with your ability (or inability in this case) to establish a wifi connection.
I re-set up my Telstra WAP connection and then my Active Sync settings in order to connect to Exchange as it did not connect straight out of the box (gotta love Telstra!) but all is working now that I have selected "The Internet" and have the right Telstra settings ....
Sorry I cant help anymore ... hope you find a solution though!

I had the same problem last night at home, and quick resolution was to reset the WiFi access point. I know for a fact that it's not the HD2 because occasionally I had the same problem with my old phone (Nokia E60).
However, I too was puzzled by the message you are quoting. If WiFi does not work, the HD2 should fall back on 3G / GPRS / GSM, which in this case it does not.
I'm not sure whether your problem too may be related to the access point. If I were you I would:
a) Turn WiFi off on the HD2 and check that mail works fine;
b) Check that you have set your WiFi connection and your email client on the HD2 as suggested by kilrah earlier (to connect to "the internet", not "work", and set the email client to use "the internet")
c) Turn WiFi on and check that the HD2 does indeed connect properly to the access point (green tick mark next to the SSID). If it doesn't try resetting the access point.
d) If it does, check that email works as expected (which at this point should be the case).
Hope this helps.
The most "effective" -simplest- solution i was able to find to the problem is to "duplicate" the email account.
The "duplicate" accout was created "while i was connected to the internet via wifi".
Actually this "alternative" account was created - obviously with a different "name" - to be able to clearly identify it and different smpt - to be able to send messages via the adsl provider-.
Now when i want to check the mail via 3g i use one account while when i want to connect via wifi i use the "alternative" account.
This way you may have every now and than the problem of duplicate incoming messages which need to be manually erased but at least don't have to make too elaborate modifications to the settings prior to access the mail.
I have the same problem but the other way arround. I mean that my Gmail account won't sync unless I'm on Wi-fi . Through Gprs it won't work !! I get a "Cannot Connect" message. HELP ME
