Is there any way to turn off/on the GPS on this thing.
Cant find the option under settings, and dont know where else to look.
As long as there is no program that uses the GPS hardware, it's virtually disabled.
is there any visual indication weather or not it is being used?
I have HTC Dream, and in settings you can actually Disable GPS.
I would like to be able to force it off.

I would like to know if there is any way to manually enable the internal GPS on my Trinity to accept incoming GPS signals and likewise to disable it without using a third party app.
What I am trying to acheive is the ability to toggle gps on when I switch to 'car' profile so that a fix is established everytime I get in the car, regardless of whether I need it. Then if I get lost or stuck in traffic I can switch on tomtom and have an instant fix.
On another thread they mentioned that mortscript may probably do the job using readfile from a com port. Someone else suggested opening the com port and watching the strings returned for a fix status.
Does anybody know how to control it, how do tomtom and other programs toggle GPS on and off? or does a GPS signal need an application to interpret the incoming data?
how do i know if my gps is on
is there a manual way to turn it on/off?
and i want to use gps with FindMyCar app
The GPS turns on when an application needs it otherwise its 'sleeping'. There is no manual on or off switch
Enabled GPS, but it doesnt work in maps, it says location temporarily unavailable..
But when i enable location with wireless networks, it finds me fine of Maps
How can I fix this?
Leave them both enabled. You'll get your initial fix from triangluation/wifi and after a bit it should lock onto GPS.
didnt work
noone knows how to fix this?
Try to disable automatic clock update
Try to disable automatic clock update
Install GPS Status, and see what's going on with satellites
Yes am wondering how can i turn wifi completely off??
If i use google maps and then i go back to home ..i can see the wifi widget toggle says that is 'turning off' yet..i had gone to settings and specify for it to be turn off?
I had gone to settings too and specify to only receive data from gps and not wireless (just in case is trying to scan for a wifi router)
so has any body come across this? or has anyone found a solution for this?
It's a bug with the current firmware, when you open google maps the wifi is enabled to help fix your location faster, it doesn't matter if you disabled it in the settings. It seems fixed in newer fw versions.
I noticed the same behaviour on my SGS too, but it's not due to Google Maps.
Everytime when I use the phone, the first few seconds it tries to turn off wifi. I made sure wifi is off everytime I finished using the phone or when I'm not in a wifi zone to save some battery.
This is pretty annoying.
And do they need to?
when you check out the location settings on the droid x you get 3 options
wireless
GPS
AGPS
I have power toggle on my homescreen and i check all of the boxes
If toggle the gps on the widget and come back their all off as it should be
But then i hit the widget again only GPS is turned on and AGPS and wireless are off.
My question, if you turn on GPS i still see apps using AGPS or wifi to determine my location, so if these check boxes arn't check does it really matter?
The reason i'm asking is I started making profiles in tasker and for some apps that can use AGPS and wireless (like places or 4square) I tell tasker to turn on the GPS as well as the wireless (incase i'm indoors) But if it's not checked in the settings is it even doing anything by turning the wifi on?
Thanks for the help in helping me understand this stuff.
Nobody is having similar results on their droid?
