I want to apply some new apps - Hero, G2 Touch General

I am trying to get onto market app via my phone to see if I can download any apps. I have created a google account and am trying to sign in via this market app but am unsuccessful and my phone screen is showing can't establish a reliable data connection to the server. This could be a temporary problem or your sim card may not be provisioned for data services.
Please help.....

I take it you didn't use this account when you initially set up your phone? There often seem to be issues if you tie your phone to a Gmail account after it has already been setup.
Try making a Nandroid backup, wiping, and then when you get into the setup wizard log in using the Gmail account you setup. If it doesn't help, you can always roll back to your Nandroid backup.
Regards,
Dave

Please make this easier for me
Dave, thanks for replying, could you please give me a step by step of what I need to do.
This is all very new to me and don't know all the jargon!

Ok. Dave is suggesting that you use a utility (to back up data before you do the big wipe!) - but this requires that you have gotten around some basic protections of a new phone - which I'm going to assume that you haven't (i.e you haven't gold-carded your phone or rooted it - if you don't know what this means, then you haven't done it ).
In simple terms, you need to wipe all the setup data for your phone and start again with the configuration process. So when you first started the phone, it took you through steps to set up your phone information. As part of that, you would have been asked for your Google account login details. Since you created your Google account after you did all this, unfortunately, this kind of screws the phone in trying to establish it's Google credentials with the Google Market. So you need to clear your phone and reconfigure it - this time entering your Google account details as part of the set up.
In order to do a factory reset (clear all data on your phone):
1/ Switch off the phone (either removing the battery or shutting down by holding the "end call" button for few seconds
2/ While being switched off, hold the "home" (house) and "back" (the arrow in the lower right corner)
3/ Hit briefly the "end call" button" while still holding the "home" and "back" buttons.
4/ Release the "home" and "back" button, a white screen containing technical information should appear, with a red message asking for hitting the "menu" button.
5/ Hit the "menu button", the Hero will now boot with factory settings.
Instructions with GSM Hero
Instructions for CDMA/Sprint Hero - Hard reset
The instructions should be the same but I provide both for completeness.

Bluehawk is correct - I've rather worked on the assumption that you've at least applied a custom recovery image to your phone in order to make a Nandroid backup.
The reason I suggested the backup was purely so you could roll back to your previous setup if my advice didn't work. If you don't have a Nandroid capable recovery image on your phone, the point is rather moot anyway.
Follow Bluehawks instructions to factory reset your phone - you will lose anything you had on it but you should at least be able to get onto the Market.

Dave

O2 XDA IIi (Andes) questions

Hi there,
I just got my hands on an O2 XDA IIi, after having an XDA II for the weekend.
I am trying to work out how to best annihilate the O2 Active interface that's on by default -- I _hate_ it! I have tried uninstalling it through the Remove Programs control panel, but I get the following error:
Uninstall unsuccessful. The program was not removed because these files are in use or are read-only. Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Memory > Running Programs tab > Stop all and try again.
\Windows\batteryinfo.dll
\Windows\clockinfo.dll
\Windows\Fonts\xpdr_02.ttf
\Windows\Mobile Solutions\O2ActiveUI\Modules\Connections\connections.exe
\Windows\o2aui.dll
However, there is nothing showing in the Running Programs tab. The Mobile Solutions entry remains in the Remove Programs list.
I have also tried doing a hard reset by holding the power button then hitting the soft reset button with the stylus, in an attempt to get the phone to prompt me for the "Please select your user type" dialog (with the options of Personal or Corporate (and being prompted for a code; I was going to try entering 0506, as mentioned here) however the phone is not prompting me with that dialog! It asks me to align the screen and enter the SIM PIN, and spends a few minutes installing software, but that dialog never reappears, I've only seen it once when I plugged the phone in to charge for the first time.
So, questions:
How do I disable the O2 Active interface?
Do I lose any functionality by doing so? (the Messaging, Phone, Internet... bar does not count as functional, in my book)
Are Contacts saved into "permanent" storage removed on a hard reset?
Any general tips or resources that you would recommend? (besides this forum, of course )
Thanks!
perform a hard reset and when the files are being installed just hit cancel and then install selected software......
you loose no functionality of the fone if you perform anything like this :S
contacts are mostly saved in the fone memory so wen u perform a hard reset......BANG!! contacts gone....
cheers
jeetz
You can set the contacts, conection settings, appointments and tasks to be stored in persistent memory, so they should remain after a hard reset (shouldn't they?).

Unfortunately I can't do this, the device appears to completely ignore input whilst that process is happening (i.e. tapping cancel doesn't, and the backlight turns off despite repeated presses on all areas of the screen).
I DID manage to get it to prompt me for the user type, however, by not entering anything when prompted for the SIM PIN, I entered 0506 as the code, and got a dialog saying the O2 Active interface won't be installed, and indeed, it wasn't. Only things I miss are the battery status monitor, and the Get Settings (wherever that was hiding) for retrieving GPRS/etc settings from the network.

That's why I asked about "permanent" memory -- how permanent is it? Though I don't seem to be able to store or at least retrieve any data from it, so I've gone with using xBackup (came preinstalled on the device) and backing up to a spare 16MB SD media I had lying around. It seems to have backed up OK, though I haven't tried a restore yet.
Thanks for the responses!
wellll thts why i said save the contacts to sim....if you change the sim to some other fone you get your contacts in tht sim....and its very stable saving them to sim.....and for rest of the programs use SPRITEBACKUP. ITS AWESOME !!

How do I remove 'stuck' email a/c & 'unread' Today notic

How do I remove 'stuck' email a/c & 'unread' Today notice?
Hi there, hope you can help.
I have an HTC Wizard (Xda Mini S) and recently restored a backup using the latest Sprite Backup beta.
It kinda half restored my one POP3 e-mail account, in that the account appears on the Today screen showing '59 Unread', but not in the Messaging program folder list.
I.e. it's there, but not visible and I can't see the Inbox etc.
When I try to re-create the account using the same name, Messaging won't let me as 'an account already exists with that name'. So, it's there, but invisible.
I've tried removing all entries of the account name from the registry, but after a reboot they reappear.
How can I completely remove this account, to start again?
I think it is a bug to be honest
I did a hard reset and then restored my sms back to the device using Jeyo
it said 1046 unread (but they were there) and after manually selecting mark as read, it had 1 msg unread even though there was none that were unread!
in the end i had to hard reset it again and its ok now
Thanks but I'm hoping someone here can provide a solution that doesn't involve a hard reset, as that rather defeats the object of having performed & restored a backup at all!

How to reset to remove personal info (contacts etc..)

Hello,
I would like to reset my phone to the state that it was shipped from the factory. I would like to erase all of my contacts and personal info. How do I do this?
http://www.htcamerica.net/docs/wizard user manual.pdf
I own the i-mate kjam.
Is the hard reset different on this device? When I performed the hard reset as stated in the manual my contact book is still full of contacts without my sim card installed.
I want to clear my contact list.
I (MDA Vario) have a option in the config, it's must be named "clear memory" or so, chosse that, it's more comfortable than breaking your fingers for these key combination and will also do a hard-reset!
Push the reset button, and quickly push and hold two of the side button. The manual's hardreset instruction doesn't work for me too.. I wonder who wrote that.

Please help can't get rid of old Outlook accounts

How would I do this??? it is so weird... they just are there on my back up but I can't follow or find any files to them..
Hi,
Removing the account is easy:
Start Pocket Outlook, goto menu - tools - options
You see the list of active accounts, just tap and hold the account you would like to remove and the popup menu pops up. Tap on delete and your account will be deleted.
Hope this helps!

NO NO NO... lol tech support just said the same thing... I can't see them... but they are there because when I put the exact same name it says, "you can't have a duplicate account... AND my PBreeze shows them too... but the only active one are the current ones that I have configured correctly.
when this happened to me, I had to hard reset, then used my latest spb backup to back up everything except the mail stuff, then I recreated my accounts, this was what spb advised me to do and it worked.
Good Luck with this.

How about:
1) Restore your current backup.
2) Backup your device again missing out the mail stuff
3) Hard reset
4) Restore the new backup
I might have to do this shortly
That's what I ended up doing, it saved me a lot of time as the only thing left to do afterwards was recreate the mail stuff.
Hope it goes OK

ahhh. lol, I am a dodo head... I see what you're saying now... yes... I get it... lol hmmm wish I thought of that...
however, did you notice problems whith other things as well... for example I use spbtime and get an error all the time can't exucute spbtime.exe notify or something like that... comes up all the time....
I seem to remember there were a few minor issues, mostly with programs that I had installed to my storage card. I think there were about 2 apps which I had to uninstall and then re-install to get everything back to absolutely perfect. In my case the issues arose because I had sent back my original Vario II to t-mobile (screen alignment probs) and they sent me a new/reconditioned machine in return. Obviously things must have been very slightly different, and this led to the mail problem.
Apparently another thing which is crucial is setting the time/region etc correctly after a hard reset.
You could try an uninstall and then re-install of this particular application, or look on spb's forum and ask for help there, they are very good with most issues that come up.
I saw suggested on one forum that if doing a hard reset and complete re-installation instead of using backup, it's a good idea to do an extra backup at the stage when only really, absolutely crucial tried and tested applications are on, a kind of 'baseline' backup. However, I've never been patient enough to do this myself!

Got That Synching Feeling!

New kid on the block here so I hope someone out there can help me.
Recently got O2 Mini sd Wizard and really pleased with it.
Adding info. to the phone and synching with my pc OK.
I have just lost about 2/3 of my contacts - I don't know how.
But now when I try to synch with my pc I get an error message that reads:
'support code 800703fa' and synching does not complete.
I have tried soft reset but nothing changes.
When I try a hard reset, the phone behaves as though I have just done a soft reset and still nothing changes.
Anyone have any suggestions? (Polite ones please!!!)
+1 for title.
I would just go into ActiveSync on your phone and delete all of the accounts (click on Menu > Options, highlight the computer nickname and click Delete), then delete the sync folder on your computer, and create the account anew.
After creating it, go into your phone's Activesync again and click on Menu > Options again. From here you can configure the settings for each thing you want to sync, and can turn items on or off. For example, since my phone contact list is WAY more important to me, and I don't want my personal contacts ending up on my work computer (where I usually sync), I do not sync them at all. However, I always push Notes and Tasks from the phone to my computer, since I'm usually creating those while away from my desk. Each item can be set differently. I usually let Files sync in both directions, so I can nab new .cab files when I need to.
BTW, a Google search for "support code 800703fa" could be very enlightening, or very tedious, but either way, I'd recommend trying it.
