I am having difficulties with e-mail notifications.
It seems that my Cingular 8525 really wants me to read my e-mail. I have 2 e-mail accounts 1 directpush, 1 pop3.
The directpush account doesn't seem to have an issue, but the pop3 account does. The notifications will continue to pop-up once every 15 minutes or so. If I dismiss the notification, it will continue to pop up. If I mark the mail as read, the notification pop-ups stop. Any ideas? I think that there is a utility to clear out the notification que, but will I have to run this every time I get mail? That doesn't make sense to me.
The other problem is the Pop3 (I EDIT THIS POST TO REMOVE DIRECTPUSH AND ADD POP3, it is pop3 that is getting mail all night) schedule. My phone doesn't seem to want to follow my schedule, I have it set to start at 7:00am and end at 7:00pm. But I can hear it getting e-mail all night long..... kind of annoying. I finally have turned off the notification sounds, but that too doesn't make sense.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Glenn
I constantly hear the email alert on my phone that I have a new email, but when I go to the mail tab, I did not receive any emails at all. Any ideas what's going on here and how do I fix that?
Thanks.

Not sure if youve already tried but when that happened to me with SMS notifications I:
Turned notification off then on, then soft reset. Turned notifications off then on again, changed tone settings, and it was good to go. Not sure if it will work for email notification though. Worth a shot.
Cheers.
If you're using Exchange, and you have an Outlook open and connected to the same Exchange somewhere, occasionally the Outlook will receive something that Exchange thought was legit, but Outlook thinks is junk (the spam filters are separate), so the e-mail will go to your phone but will instantly get pulled again because Outlook will have moved it from the Inbox to Junk E-Mail.
If you're using POP3 or IMAP4 then I'm of no assistance.
I have four Gmail accounts syncing and set to "As items arrive". But I fail to see any sort of option that let's me get a notification/vibration when items do arrive, like the Outlook one.
Can anyone tell me where this notification setting lives? Right now, if I get Gmail items arriving, I don't know until I unlock the phone and check if numbers have popped up on the tile.
Also, are they syncing by WiFi when the screen is off?
I'm not understanding. Since I use only gmail maybe you are teaching me something...
What does the phone do when it is off when a normal POP message is collected vs how an imap is collected vs how a exchange is collected?
How do those differ from gmail?
My gmail makes a noise, a short vibrate and then the tile indicates the number of unread.
Does outlook, exchange, pop, or imap act differently?

When I unlock my phone, the WiFi status icon animates and "reconnects". Leading me to believe that when my phone is locked, it isn't using WiFi to do any syncing. This worries me.
My Exchange Outlook makes noise, vibrates, and updates the tile. But my Gmail things only seem to be updating the tile - so I was hoping there was a setting somewhere I just overlooked...
You know what, perhaps the secondary accounts dont get the same notifications as the primary or something weird. Maybe commit to a hard reset, setup only the gmail and see how it acts...I know there is goofy stuff with the calendar that is shown as the main one...
Not sure. I think we will get far more interaction int he at&t forums on certain items but it feels unnatural to leave my precious...my precious! XDA
I have one Windows Live, and 3 Gmail accounts linked to my phone. All my accounts give me the same alert sound I chose in the "ringtones & sound" settings of the phone. All are set to receive as sent. Ive tested, and showed coworkers a few times, emails always seem to arrive with in 30 seconds of sending an email to one of my accounts.

My exchange (work), windows live, yahoo, and gmail accounts are all working in terms of getting the notification via sound and a number of unread messages on the tile.
What is weird is that when I check the lock screen, I see icons for any unread exchange, windows live and yahoo e-mail. I never see an icon for unread gmail on the lock screen, I have to swipe up and check the tiles.
Is this what everyone else is seeing? No big deal, but I would like to see an icon for unread gmail on the lock screen. Oh, I have the Samsung Focus.

I have gmail, WLive and Exchange and I get unread count on lock screen for all three of them on my Focus. I have the alert sound turned off so can't be sure about it.

Thanks for the feedback dhan911. I may delete my two gmail accounts from the Focus and set them up again.

I think WP7 only shows your first 3 email accounts on the lock screen, each in a different position along the bottom.
I have 4 email accounts syncing with my phone (in this order): Gmail, School mail (essentially Gmail), Work 1 email (Exchange), and Work 2 email (Exchange). I can see notifications on the lock screen from my Gmail, school mail, and my work 1 email, but not my work 2 email. I do receive notification sound and vibration for all, however.

Thanks bremic9188, I am seeing icons for three e-mail accounts on the lockscreen, but am getting notifications for all five accounts. Sounds like that just may be the deal.
Another thought. If you are setting it to "As Items Arrive", why not try setting it up as an OutLook Exchange account?
First, delete the previous Gmail Account.
Now, setup a new account, select 'Outlook'. Use your Gmail info. When it fails, enter Your Full Email Address as the User name. When it fails again, select 'advanced' and enter 'm.google.com' as the Server, then select 'show all settings'. Now select any prefered settings, such as turning off Contacts and Calendar if prefered so it only grabs email. Probably change the Account name to Gmail, etc. Now hit 'sign in' and you should be set. It will operate exactly like an Exchange Account.
My question is that I want mail from hotmail to sync every half hour (aka 30min).
it says "inbox check frequency: every 30minutes". Or if I click on inbox and go to Sync Options, it says "Check Frequency: 30minutes".
-- Yet the second I get an email I get a mail notification...
Does anyone know what I have to change to make it sync every 30min instead of push?
(or if there's another setting that controls that behaviour, as I do not use an alternate hotmail app or anything like it)
Suggestions are welcome!
[I searched this thread and several others but haven't come across a question like this]
Mine have 3 Hotmail accounts. 2 for one hour and one for push, no problem for all.
I was having this same issue with the stock email. No matter what I selected for the interval it pushed the emails. I just started using enhanced email again and that solved it
Thanks for those comments but is there anyone who has a solution to the stock email and how to put it on intervals (so that it actually works on interval too)?
curious to see if anyone else is NOT getting notifications for e-mails from there verizon e-mail accounts? I have my account setup through the g-mail app (along with my main gmail account and another one). Both of my gmail accounts get notifications, but I need to switch to the Verizon one just to see the e-mails show up.
I have sync setup to every 15 minutes.
this was not an issue on my prior device (although, they were delayed a bit).
thanks!
