Well after ages trying to hunt one down I finally tracked down a HD2 to try. I only spent like 5 minutes on it, I just wanted to get a 'feel' for it, see how responsive the touchscreen was etc. I have to say I was pretty impressed, it worked just how I hoped it would. Maybe a touch too responsive, but that's being very picky, and besides I've seen on here that it can be desensitised.
My only noticeable gripes were that the edges of the camera lens were a bit sharp, and the edges of the phone could do with rounding off a bit to fit more comfortably in the hand. I did think it felt pretty big in the hand (which obviously it is) but could still hold it and operate it with one hand. I remember the iphone felt big at first but now it just feels normal. Does the same happen with the HD2, you just get used to the size and so it starts to feel normal?
So like I said they were my only gripes. Overall I very much liked the phone, liked the touchscreen, liked the interface, and think I'll get used to the size given time, and so was prepared to upgrade from my iphone, but then annoyingly ran into a snag. I am soon eligible for an upgrade, and was told that I could buy out my existing contract if I wanted, which isn't alot so was prepared to do it. However, they're making it very awkward to port my exisitng number over which is very irritating.
If you're due an upgrade they can port your number over with immediate effect. IF you want to end the contract early and upgrade you have to take a new number, change your existing contract onto pay as you go for up to 48 hours, and then transfer the existing number across. In other words to keep the existing number without a break you have to put old SIM in the new phone, which will then change to pay as you go for up to 2 days, and then it will cut off, at which point you can put your new SIM in which will then have your existing number. Some will say why not just use the new SIM during the pay as you go period of the old one? The trouble is with that is I also use my phone for business, and this means informing all my business contacts that I have a different number for 2 days, and then reverting back to my old one. That just ain't gonna work.
I couldn't get a straight answer out of them as to why it has to be so bloody complicated. I told them it was barmy to go on a pay as you go for 2 days as would cost me an arm and a leg :-/
So I either wait till my contract is up for renewal, which for someone as impatient as me isn't a thought I like, or take out a new contract and just change my number permanently, which I don't really want to do. I guess it's going to depend on what breaks first, my impatience or the inconvenience :-/
Are you changing phone companies? If not, why do you need to port your number?
As for the size, etc. you'll get used to the size and feel of the phone pretty quickly and you'll also get used to the sensitivity of the touch screen pretty quickly. For example, I used to find the top edge of the phone a little too sharp against my ear but I must have developed an HD2 shaped callous because it's perfectly comfortable now
It's a great phone and you won't be dissapointed (sorry if that makes you even more impatient).
Yeah, you do start to get used to the size. Had mine for about 5 days now. However I do get paranoid that I'm going to drop it using it single handed or taking it out of my pocket.

Because in order to get a new phone I have to buy out the exisiting one which is in effect cancelling the contract. You then have to take on a new contract and port the number over to the new contract. Why you can't just pay off the existing contract but keep it running so you can upgrade early and keep your number without having to port it across I don't know. Surely I'm not the only one who wants to upgrade early, especially since 12 month contracts are a thing of the past?
Sorry if I'm sounding a bit bitter, I was well excited about getting a new phone/gadget, and I'm a bit deflated now
You cant port a number within the same company.
By cancelling, you cancel that number.
The only way is to port the number out to another company (payg) and then after their 2 days, port it back.

Ah, I had no idea it worked like that. What a pain. I don't blame you for sounding a bit bitter.

You can ask for a PAC code and the minute you use that to transfer the number, the contract ends after that. But you will have to pay the term thats left if you do it before your contract expires.
You get used to the size until you pick up something like an iPhone or Hero and then you ask yourself, "This is tiny, how did I ever manage to use this?". I now have to squint when looking at any other phone.
You also get used to the screen responsiveness, for the first week I couldn't really use the keyboard but after 3 weeks I can write out an email without any major pain.
The soft touch plastic makes it really easy to hold and I've only dropped it once whereas I drop my metal iPod all the time.
I'd suggest you wait till your contract is up and then upgrade as that will also give HTC a chance to iron out the couple bugs that the HD2 has.
Yeh, but I had this conversation with t-mobile when I was considering cancelling.
You can't port your number within the company.
You have to port out, and port back in.
Initially I thought this device is too big, but after much constant using, smaller phones doesnt feel right anymore
just like the leap from 17" to 24" for example

I had a conversation with O2 about this, as I was on a monthly contract and was asking about getting the HD2 on a long-term contract. They initially told me I'd have to get payg, port the number to that, get the new contract, and then port the number to that (that was all within O2, and I would have the same number for all that time). They put me through to retentions because I had a couple of other questions that they couldn't answer in CS, and the girl I spoke to there basically said that that's a load of bollocks and that she could port my number immediately from one contract to another, within the same company.
I ended up buying the phone SIM free, so I'm still on the original monthly contract, obviously with the same number, but it goes to show that the advice you get depends purely upon who you get when you ring up.

lol
Very true.
I was speaking to retentions (t-mobile call it the loyalty department [ironic]) who told me what I've said.
perhaps O2 are different.
Im going to be moving to them once my t-mobile contracts up.

I saw on the news that the AT&T Tilt is released today.
I went to the AT&T website, and sure enough, there it is:
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...etails/?device=AT&T+Tilt(TM)&q_sku=sku1060009
Price: $299.
Man, I can't believe this! I had no idea a new model was coming so soon, I literally purchased my 8525 3 days ago!! Of course, the sales guy didn't bother to tell me a new model was coming with WM6 and more storage room, even though from what I told him, that would obviously be something of great importance to me. Of course, now I've got a custom WM6 ROM on it, wonder if there's any chance I could exchange it if I flash it back to the original?

Hehehe, What are they going to do? Tell you "No"? Try it. Actually, if you bought it from a corporate store, I'd go back and kick your salesweasel's ass for selling it to you knowing that the Tilt is around the corner.
Also, I find it funny that on the website, the 8525 is still $50 higher than the tilt. Not exactly the best way to clear out of old stock
Yeah, they did say I can exchange the phone for 30 days, so I am going to give it a try. Already have it flashed back and ready to go. The sales rep I talked to on the phone doesn't seem to have much of a clue, he said the Tilt wasn't the actual 8525 replacement, another model called the "Pilgrim" was supposed to be the upgrade and the Tilt he said was slower which is why it was priced lower. I checked the specs, and it's the same speed CPU so not sure what he was talking about, and it has double the memory as well! No idea what the Pilgrim is, I would guess that is just the internal AT&T code for the Tilt/Kaiser.
I don't get it... how come the 8525 is more expensive than the Tilt?
Also, is the AT&T branded model available with any other contract or perhaps without one?

Yes definately.. restore it using the image on the cd that came with it. They have a 30 day return/exchange policy. Go back in there and give your salesman hell for not telling you about the newest one to come out..
Yeah, no problems at all exchanging it for the Tilt! What a nice device this is, I love the black (not so much the silver keys though). Boy AT&T really went nuts with the bloatware though, with the extra memory this device gave them they just loaded all kinds of junk on it. Twice as much base memory, but comes with only about 90 Meg free. Ridiculous. Can't wait until we get some nice cooked ROMs for it! I'd load on the HTC ROM but looks like we still need a fix for the keyboard (probably won't take long!)
As for giving the sales guy a hard time, well, they seem to be as confused by the price as we are. He is still convinced there must be *some* reason they are pricing it below the 8525.
I just bought one too. got $375 while not eligible for upgrade, but did renew contract with AT&T. I had just bought a new 8525 from E-Bay but I think I'll E-Bay it back

Basically, this is the direct replacement. The Blackberry 8820 and 8310 will directly replace their predecessors at the same price point also. My understanding is that not all stores were going to get Tilts immediately, while waiting for the 8525 stock to be depleted
But as far as the device being any slower or lacking over the 8525, the rep you talked to was clueless (or just trying to make sure the 8525s move). The 8525 was nearly perfect. The Tilt is just going to be nearer to nearly perfect, in my opinion.
It has dual processors, so it is actually much faster than the 8525.
The reason it's less expensive is because when AT&T gets new equipment they actually try to push that more rather than worry about clearing old stock.
I have tried unsuccessfully to purchase a Wing twice now. Last night I made a bid on a third one, however so much time has passed since I have been trying to get one that I am now out of time. I lost my phone last week and need a new one by Wednesday. In order to get my phone I will have to overnight it for early arrival on Wednesday. The total cost now puts me close to 400 which is the neighborhood of an iphone. When the iphone first came out I swore it was the phone for me but I wasn’t going to spend 600 for it. They have dropped in price to 399 for the 8 gig phone. I am going to have to unlock the phone though for T-mobile service which scares me a bit. I kept pretty close tabs on the whole unlock the iphone saga when it was first being done and it seemed that there was a pretty high failure rate at that time. A quick check on eBay reveals that there are a plethora of unlocked iphones for sale which tells me that they have perfected the process. So now I am at a cross roads. I can get the iphone tomorrow from an Apple store or AT&T’s stores. The Wing will have to be sent overnight if I can convince the seller to drop everything and run down to a FedEx office. So given the pros and cons of the purchase I see a pretty close match. Maybe I should be looking at the phones themselves. The processor on the iphone is way more powerful and so is the storage space. The thing I don’t like about the iphone is that it’s a mac which means I may have issues getting software for it on the open market. Then again it’s a seriously popular device and people may be writing all sorts of tools and software for it. It doesn’t have a dedicated keyboard either which I liked about the wing. So given the choice, should I seriously stick with the Wing or should I make the switch to the iphone? Opinions count but I would like to hear some concrete facts about the differences if I am to make a logical decision. Thanks in advance.
Have you considered you can walk into a Tmobile Store and get a wing for $349?
You talk about walking into an Apple Store vs. having a Wing shipped to you.... and that seems to be the deciding factor on which phone you're going to get. If you walk into a Tmobile store, you can get a Wing for $350 plus tax .... and if you walk into an Apple store, you can get an iPhone for $399 plus tax.
actually I cant get the wing for 349. It's a real pisser and if that was true I would have done that a week ago. I lost my phone (V3 Razor) about a week ago. The first thought that came to mind was go to T-mobile and get a new phone. My second thought was to upgrade into something like the Wing. I didn't know it existed at the time, but I thought that it would be a nice iPhone substitute at 350 since I believed the iphone to be 600. As it turns out I am 10 months away from my contract ending with T-mobile. I am 8 months away from qualifying for any T-mobile phone rebates. The Wing is 499 retail with 100 instant rebate and 50 mail in all of which require 2 additional years of contract. T-mobile will not allow me to extend my contract until I am 2 months or less from my current contract expiration. So to that end and to your point, the phone is not 350 to me it is 499 to me. That is why I started my search on eBay. I thought then as I think now, I can get a better deal on the Wing through eBay. However, I had the damnedest luck on this particular auction. I bid and won my first auction about 5 days ago and have not heard 1 word from the seller regarding the close of the auction. I believe he died and luckily I hadn't sent him any money. Maybe someday I will hear from the guy but at this point he wont respond to any emails nor has he complained about me not paying for the auction. I decided to try again and won a second auction for 255 on the wing. Great deal I thought until I actually paid for the auction only to find out that he already sold the phone to another party as well as collecting payment from me too. Now I have to deal with that big pile of crap but I still need a phone. So here I am needing to win yet another auction for my wing or I can just go to an At&t store and pick up the iphone.
Tough decision to make, one that i considered also. A couple of things to note first is:
Longevity: Remember iphone 2.0 is already in the works and might drop by the end of next year. Also remember T-Mobile's 3g service should start seeing implementation beginning next year. So now the question is, how long are you planning on keeping this phone? Another thing to consider is resale value if you opt to get another phone next year. I would assume an iphone in great condition should have a higher resale value over time than the wing.
Specs: iPhone is more powerful than Wing and also has more storage, has a multitouch display that is larger and with higher resolution.
UI and OS: iPhone beats Wing hands down for STOCK UI and OS, athough it is an unfair advantage. Apple made OSX on the iPhone from the ground up. It only has one platform to work with whereas WM6 is created to be cross-platform and work for different SP, PPC, and PDA that all have different specs and components. Although the dev comm definitely did an outstanding job of making wm6 more user friendly, and with upgrades to wm6 like Shadows's UI and Android around the corner, we'll see how this develops.
Dev. Community: Apple is releasing a SDK for iPhone early next year, so you should start seeing software for iPhone given enough time. Wing has an established dev comm as you can see - xda (The best!), modaco, howardforums, and others.
Apple vs. Microsoft: Which is the lesser of two evils?
Warranty: unlock your iPhone and you just voided your warranty. At least with wing something happens to it, you should be able to have T-Mobile help you in some way. At least, i would think.
Personally, i'm happy with my Wing. It might be no iPhone, but then again no other is. It's the little device that could, and while there are more powerful phones on the market, it still holds it own. Plus i like the idea that i can abuse it more than the iPhone. I feel HTC makes quality phones and i can't wait to see if T-Mobile releases HTC Touch Cruise for its 3g service (please, please, please). Plus, it's not a F'ing Sidekick! lol.
Unless you are in dire need of a pda phone right now, i would buy a cheap phone for the time and wait until the next round of pda phones come out. Take a look at the ATT tilt, for instance, much more powerful than the wing and im sure we'll see a price drop pretty quick.
Have you considered this?
http://www.fatwallet.org/forums/messageview.php?catid=18&threadid=733578
This is where I bought my wing, when the price was $49 after rebate, now it's $79 with free bluetooth headphone. You do need to sign-up another one year contract (no activation fee, free 2-day shipping) with Tmobile though, but you can combine your twon lines to a family plan and save some $$.
contract
unless you are within 2 months of your current contract expiring, you can not renew your contract with tmobile. Your account must be 60 days to contract expiration before you can get any rebates or discounts applied to your phone. I have mentioned that twice so far. It's a very important tip to pass on and to keep in mind with your own upgrade decisions in the future. If I qualified for any sort of assistance I would have bought the wing long ago.
FYI..I ended up with 3 failed auctions for the wing. Very strange situatation to say the least. In the end I went with the iphone but I am starting to wonder if that was a wise choice considering all the trouble I have had with it over the last week. I attempted for 48 hours straight to hack the iphone for use on t-mobile service. Apple has released an update sometime last month that pretty much locks the phone down for the next couple of weeks or months. Someone will surely figure out a way around it but for now its damn near impossible. I decided to sign up with att service and only after a week of fooling with this phone did I finally get it working today. About 6 hours after finally getting the phone up and running did I discover that it doesnt have VOIP support. Now at first glance that might seem like a meaningless attribute but this was the primary reason for me starting this little adventure of phone upgrading. I am going to start a new thread because I have more to tell and need help in making a choice.
if you use your phone almost like laptop then you won't like the iPhone. You will for for a little while till the wow factor wares off. It's definately pretty and very nice with all its tricks but the simple things it cant do. Some 3rd party apps attempt to fix this but it doesnt work all too well.
You'll take things for granted such as browsing to a site to download something and email it as an attatchment to someone or yourself.
Is the ATT Pure gone? I am looking to add a line to my plan, and cannot find them anywhere. ATT has them on the website, but only refurbs and only for new customers (free). Amazon has them online for new accounts and upgrades, but they don't do add a line transactions.
Am I missing something? Is there a replacement for this phone coming out? My wife likes the Tilt 2 that I just got, but thought the physical keyboard was not needed... that led me naturally to the Pure.
im existing and it shows up for me .
I spoke with AT&T this morning. The refurbs are only available to new customers due to limited supply. They also said that I could order it as a new customer and transfer it over to my existing family plan without any problem or cost.
The said that the phone is still listed as a available phone, but they have no stock and do not know if/when they will be getting them in. O'well. I guess it will be a refurb for me.
Read this thread from FEBRUARY: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=637163
I did order the phone. I was planning on doing the $100 HTC trade up rebate, but it is not good on refurb phone purchases. But since there was no actual cost to the phone no big deal. I get to keep the tilt as a spare. On my TP2 purchase last week, I am sending in a Treo that was collecting dust and getting my $100 rebate.
I don't care if the phone is old (which it is not really) or not selling well. It does what I want it to do. It has no real replacement, and definitely the right cost. I upgraded 2 smart phones and the total cost will be -$50. Not a bad deal at all.
2 Tilt 2's would have been o.k. but the wife did not want/need the physical keyboard. Plus I could see a day when we would grab the wrong phones on the way to work and then be screwed.
LetsTalk.com has them along with Wirefly.com. Both available under the add a line program. Cost depends on your timing, they run them NIB for free MOST of the time, but have seen them listed for about $50 US.

I did not see them there. The only HTC that came up for AT&T was the tilt 2. I do believe they are gone, (or going away quickly). Not to be selfish but, I got mine.... or at least it is coming.... since it is coming Us Postal Service, I have a great hope for it to show up on saturday.
I can see the problem. my wife on Wed said that she would prefer the one without the keyboard. Then after she found out that it might not be available, she was o.k. with going tilt 2 as an option instead. I can see that conversation occurring throughout the country. In this case however the tilt 2 (new) was $199 vs the Pure (refurb) at $0. I am pretty sure I made the right choice.

As of thursday morning AMAZON was the only one who had them. They wanted 0.01 for a new line and $80 for an upgrade.
Amazon does not do the add a line, and phones purchased though them cannot be combined with an existing family account (like you can with att's own phones) without a $250 penalty within the first 6 months. ATT tracks by device ID, as long as the device is activated, they don't care how. Amazon get their comission based on account number. If you do the new account option, then try to combine the accounts, you will lose the new account number and be fined.
If you did upgrade by the end of May, you could do the HTC trade up rebate if you have an old device to send in and get $100 back. Then the phone would be -$20...even free shipping.
They did say that stock levels were low for the pure.

Ebay had some friday.. got busy and didn't get a chance to come here and post on it. Some of those dealers offer add a line. It's gonna suck if I ever have to do a phone swap though and no one has new ones. I love my Pure the way it is now. The stock ROM bites but the Energy is rockin'. A friend had a refurbed phone from ATT and whenever it got hot here his screen would fog up from internal moisture.

I have had some good luck with refurbs, but of course there are some horror stories. In this case I am sure that the cost saving will be worth it. The way I am upgrading and shuffling phones around, it will leave me with 1 line with an upgrade option on it. This will give me a chance to be able to replace any phone that breaks out of warranty in the coming months. Keeps the insurance cost down to zero.
First thing you do with any phone you get, new or refurb is check the white patch under the battery to make sure it is NOT pink in any way. That is the indication that the phone has been wet.
I love my Pure. Actually since me buying mine, my good friend and also my father have made the jump too. Its a pretty good touchscreen phone that is feels just the right size. I hope you all are successful in your attempts to get your hands on one. We knew they were going to get pulled months ago because of the low sales (wtf). I guess most people prefer the TP2 (meh).

I just got it and after a long 40 minutes on the phone with at&t the did all the juggling on my account and got it working. (even got them to waive the activation fee).
So far so good. I am charging it now, so that I can flash it to the (same) energy rom that I have on my tilt 2.
The battery in the Pure was draining the website so they stopped selling it :|
Over the last few months I have been jumping from phone to phone and I have learned a few things along the way. This is mainly directed at people who plan on getting the Epic4G or any new phone soon.
Keep the box unmolested.
This is useful if you need to return the item or plan on selling it in the future. People like to have the original box with all the manuals and extras when they buy a phone.
Do not put on a screen protector for 30 days.
Again if you need to return the phone, you pretty much ruin the screen protector you place on it. Assuming you are careful with the phone there shouldn't be any issues, they are pretty scratch resistant. Also try applying it in the bathroom with the shower on with hot water. The extra humidity will help get the dust/fibers out of the air. Nothing will bug you more than dust stuck under a screen protector.
Wait on getting a case
Like the issue with the screen protector, if you return the phone you will end up down $20-$30 for a case that you cannot use. Also normally at launch the selection of cases is limited as time goes by you will see more and more case options become available.
The battery will suck at first
As with most new devices. The batteries will need some ramp up time before it is working at its peak, do not get discouraged, as it can take a few charge cycles before you can see normal operation.
Start transferring your contacts over to Gmail.
If you do not have a gmail account, you will need one. If you are new to Android you will find a lot of the services revolve around your Google account. If you are hesitant to make the jump, I can assure you that you will not regret it. If you have the account and contacts ready to go before you get the phone you will be in a good position when you do get it. On booting the phone it will ask you to log in, and 10 seconds later it will have all your contacts available.
Get a Google Voice account
Even if you do not plan on giving out the Google Voice number for people to call, it has other uses. One of the uses of Google Voice is visual voice mail. Yes Sprint includes this feature for free, but Google Voice is better and can be accessed from the phone, or any web browser. The Google Voice app (download required) makes the integration seamless.
If I think of more I will add them later. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
I definitely made a few mistakes here. I just moved, so all non-essential small boxes were tossed in the garbage. This includes my EVO box. Now that I plan to sell my EVO, I wish I had the original box. Oh well... discount I guess
good tips! thanks!
I have a question for chronic phone switchers. Are you just eating ETF's and/or changing phone numbers constantly? I read all these people with Vibrant's and Captivates who plan on jumping ship to the Epic or people with Incredible's and other definitely out of their 30 day policy phones that are jumping to Sprint. Do you just have money to burn or what?
Nah, I just gamed the system. Not intentionally mind you. I just kept getting buyers remorse and future phone envy.
1) AT&T Tilt 2 to T-Mobile HD2, only for a few days, then I saw the HTC Incredible.
2) HTC Incredible 29 days > Switched to EVO. Verizon charged me 1 month's bill, no ETF. At 30 days they would have.
3) Returned EVO at 29 days when I read about the Epic4G. I wanted a keyboard to play emulators. Plus the 30FPS cap irritated me. Sprint put me on seasonal hold($9 a month) and refunded me the money for the 1st month's service.
So the whole time I have paid less than normal monthly fees and have seen 3 new phones. No ETFs. Only bad part is I have been without a phone for a few weeks now waiting for the Epic4G. I guess the savings of not paying $100 a month gives me a healthy discount on the phone when I do get it.

I've never been a chronic phone switcher until I learned about Android phones. Now that I see new **** coming out constantly, I think I'll have a new phone every 4-5 months. I'll try and hold onto the Epic until dual-core phones start appearing...

Word on the street is the Epic4G is still going to hold its own vs those dual core processors. The GPU on the Galaxy S is much faster than anything else available right now.

Yes, the GPU on the hummingbird will hold its own. However, think about EVERYTHING ELSE that the GPU does nothing for. App load times, the number of things going on at the same time... etc etc. I dont know when exactly the GPU kicks in, so I cant say for certain that the Galaxy S phones handle screen transitions, large menu scrolling, and browser panning\zooming better than other phones.
Besides, SUPPOSEDLY the Qualcomm dual-core's GPU can handle 80 million triangles per second whereas the hummingbird puts out 90 million. It's close enough that I would consider upgrading for all of the benefits that I get from non-graphics related tasks.
Any tips from people who just got their phone?
After a full week with the Focus and an sd card no problems everything integrated and working to perfection. Speed is awesome and I love it, but I am having a little remorse. I have seen the specs on new phones coming out with the dual core tegras and front facing cameras am I wrong to doubt sigining a renewal with att for the focus? I am really on the edge because my TP2 was functioning fine and I was holding off for wp7 really but like I said I want my phone to have a fair amount of options front facing camera is probably coming soon, and I would like that for family and such, and really not missing the keyboard too much due to the awesome virtual keyboard (as good as the iphones). Anyone else feeling like this or have any suggestions or a roadmap of devices. I have until the 11 of december to return the device I have it armored up so it still looks new on return if the remorse grows. Thanks for your thoughts and ideas
I know how you feel, but, with this kind of mindset you would never buy any electronic equipment ever again because there is always something better just around the corner.
I love my focus - I am very impressed with the device, more so than I thought I would be.

I know trust me
I work for a company that is a direct partner with intel so we get roadmap stuff like 3-6yrs down the road kind of hampers my building for myself until I am able to test. I guess that is what hurts me in PC world I get my hands on new stuff and get an idea, I miss my cellular job so much now. Just that like I said just a couple of options I would like (basically two cameras and maybe a keyboard), I was told by a rep that copy/paste should be released this week as well (don't know how true that is). Trust me I love my focus as well and so do my kids and netflix I think I have a resource I haven't used at Samsung and will see if anything new he knows of.
I have no buyer's remorse whatsoever with this phone. As you can see from my sig, I have owned many of the top phones (at their release) and I can say that I am the least wary of this purchase. As previously said, it's pretty futile to keep worrying about what's coming up next because even if you buy that, it will be outdated by the time you get it to your house. There's always something better coming.
As for a front facing camera, if it's a big selling point for you, then yeah, you may want to look into an iPhone 4 or the Nexus S when it drops(assuming you're stuck on AT&T and that the Nexus S comes to AT&T in some form). Personally, I feel like the Focus has surpassed many of my expectations and I can comfortably call it my phone/OS of choice now. I originally bought it on a whim on release just to see what WP7 was all about and I love the OS now, despite it's flaws which I expect to be fixed.

With AT&T.. if you "want" to "cancel" service.. they will offer you options..an option..could be a new [email protected] new subscriber price...this is available every 8 months... this is a way to enjoy new hardware...which we all love...

I've never gotten such an offer, even when I attempted to break contract about a year in just to see what I could settle with them. 3 people on my family plan have iPhone 4s and love them, plus my company gives us a pretty decent discount on our monthly rates (although it's still sky high with 6 data plans). Every time I've been tempted to just pay out the rest of my contract and go to Verizon, who has fantastic service in my area, something nags me back from doing it like the ability to use SIMs in other countries since there seems to be more worldphone options on AT&T or a new phone comes out that I want to play with (iPhone4, and now the Focus...)
In short, damn you AT&T
a little bit of persuading and you can get ATT to give you what you want.
I got the focus for free. I was using the captivate before that and am now deciding which one I like better

Ditto! except for the deciding part, I already figured that one out quick. I still had to pay a $35 restocking fee when I returned the Captivate, though. Despite telling them the GPS was completely f'd and I need it functioning for how I use the phone, which was advertised as having...GPS...
