Phone freezes on incoming call - Touch HD General

Once in awhile my phone will freeze when I try to answer an incoming call. If I ignore the call, mute the ring, or don't press anything, it's fine. But if I answer it, it freezes and I have to take the battery out and turn it back on. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the phone or the ROM (Dutty R14). Anyone else have this problem?

Hi.
I tried several roms until now but never had such a problem.
Did you eperience this problem on your previous rom?
If not then you shuould change the rom.Not sure if the radio could have something to do with your problem.
I hope this could help.

When I got the device it was brand new and I tried Laurentius L26 for a couple of days and I don't recall if it did it or not. I only used that ROM for about 2 days though before I installed Dutty R14 and I've had this ROM for the 2-3 months that I've had the phone. On both ROMs I've used the 1.14.25.24 radio which is, as far as I know, the one I need (Austin, TX).

Since you do not remember i would suggest to change the rom, and if the problem persists the maybe is not rom related.About the radio i do not know much about radios but you said that you have the right one for your region.I bought may HD from Romania and i am using it in Hungary, and i changed it a lot of times to different versions(your version 1.14.25.24 and now 1.17.25.09), and all worked, some better than others, but they all worked.that is why i do not understand this RIGHT region thing.
Hope this helps.. and that this is a rom related problem. Good luck.

I'll try changing the rom like you said. The thing I like about this rom is the look, it has the 6.1 style buttons and styling along with the calendar and call history options on the home page. Are there any other roms that offer this?

there are many roms you may like.
usualy there are screenshots of the homepage.
i think that you want the htc manila and not the new htc sense.
As most of the members say there is no rom that someone can say that is the best.
I myself tried maybe 30-40 roms till now, and i still do not know which is the best for me.
So good luck.

i also experienced that on Dutty ROM
what i did was i turned off the password lock and its all fine...
but you can also try another ROM.

topix 3.1.2 is fast, stable, WM6.1.

I flashed a different rom (Energy rom with wm6.5 and manila 2.1) but I still have the problem where I can't answer incoming calls. Could my phone be broken? It's really weird.

similar problem with Diamond
I have similar problem with Diamond before
It freeze sometimes on calls and when i used iGo. I flash it with original rom and problem with calls was solved but it continue to freeze sometimes on iGo. I realosed that it freeze when batterey is low then 40% and works fine when it is full chaged. When I relace batterey with new one poroblem was solved.

It's very hard to test what's causing it because even if I keep everything exactly the same, sometimes it will freeze and sometimes it won't.
Could it be a problem with my settings, HD Tweak settings or something else, clashing with each other?
Or maybe I dropped my phone and broke some of the hardware involved in answering/ignoring calls?

How often it happens? Try to receive a call when it is on charger. If you have a friend with same phone just wasp batteries for some days as test. Try also to kill all not needed processes and see if it can help. Just discover the problem with more tests and statistics (started programs, free memory etc.)

Occasional phone/SMS ringtone stuttering on XDA Exec

Hi everybody. I've only recently purchased my XDA Exec (£194 from eBay and in mint condition). Having upgraded the ROM to the latest official o2 AKU2 ROM (including extended ROM) it's running nicely and apart from a few minor niggles, I love it to bits.
I'm wondering if one of the minor niggles is fixable. Sometimes (regardless of how many active tasks are running) I'll get stuttering in the ringtones. This happens with WMA or WAV tones and with both incoming calls and text messages. Using default tones or imported third party tones makes no difference. Sometimes they will play fine and sometimes not. I can't pin it down to any particular cause. The only thing I have noticed is that the battery level icon sometimes flashes at the same moment that the stutter occurs, suggesting that perhaps whatever background task is updating the battery meter, may also be interrupting the sound.
Is this a known problem with the Exec and the other versions of the Universal? More importantly, is there a fix? To have stuttering ringtones in a device with such good specifications is a little unfortunate to say the least!
Your input would be greatly appreciated. I should add that the phone is running in corporate mode, although I didn't abort the installation of the extended ROM (as favoured by some).
Any thoughts?
Have u noticed this prob without memory card also (while removing it)
No, but I'm not inclined to insert and remove the card much (if ever).
Going back to my original question, is there anybody out there that does not have stuttering ringtones now and then? I'm curious to know whether this is a software or hardware issue because if it's software then hopefully it can be cured.
Thanks in advance.
If it's the same problem as mine, it's probably hardware limited. Loading/playing the ringtone while waking up the device seems to be too much for it to handle, and ringtone may stutter....
Michael
Thanks for replying bheam. I was beginning to think the same thing, but I've also had the ringtone stuttering when the device is already switched on (delivery reports for text messages for example).
Anyone out there with a different version of the Universal (other than the XDA Exec) who never has this issue?
Qtek9000 1.30.96, no such a problem, wav or mp3 ringtones playing well...even 1Mb files...but I have always more than 20Mb free ram.
Jasjar 1.90.96 ROM too doesn't have any prob
Thanks for your input guys. Well I'm assuming that hardware wise the XDA Exec is identical to the JASJAR, Qtek and various other versions. If so it must surely be a software issue? I run my Exec with the bare minimum of extra software and in fact the problem existed before I installed anything so I'm 99.9% sure it's not anything I'm running. Hmmmm, the plot thickens.....
Nevermind, just saw the last line of your first post, sometimes i wish there was a delete button on this forum.

Y dont u give it a try to upgrade it to AKU 3.2 ROM.
Sorry, I just remember that fact when I was using my old magician. I had that suttering problem on it. It was a problem of priority of audio process during a call. A freeware called GB soft tweak, which add some features for gprs connections, purpose to fix manually the priority of audio. And when fixeed at maximum, no more su-su-su-suttering on ringtones. At the beginning of the love story with my 9000, I reinstalled that freeware (wich has been updated for Universal, wizard and in general win2005) but it was useless on my pda which playes ringtones fluently. So, I desinstalled and forgot that soft... So let's have a try on it...

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm a little reluctant to use an unofficial ROM. I'm hoping it won't be long before o2 release a AKU 3.2 ROM themselves.
As for the tweaking program, I'd already looked at that but would rather change the registry entry manually (since I assume that's all the tweak prog is doing). Anyone know where the audio priority key/string resides in the Exec registry?
Regards to all.

My Vario 2 doesn't vibrate anymore

Since a couple of days, my MDA Vario 2 stopped vibrating when I get a phone call or a new message. I tried the volume settings (vibrate) and the phone settings (call & vibrate), but none of that helps. I also tried enabling / disabling event sounds (as can be read in another thread) but that also doesn't help.
I'm using ROM 1.21.114.3 (Dutch T-Mobile 20 june 2006).
Who can help me???
Btw, I tried updating the ROM to the latest HTC ROM, but the upgrade failed. (luckily my phone still works ;-) )
I had this same problem and also my vario2 included parts of emails when sending text messages, contacted t-mobile uk they was aware of these problems and done a software update, since ive had it back theres been no problems.
I remember that this can be caused by a certain software used to disable led blinking - did you install anything like that? Don't remember the name right now, but if you used it you will know, I suppose.
The leds and vibrate function use same library, so disabling first will disable the other, too.
I've not installed a program that modifies the led. I used PocketZen, but vibrating worked fine. I tried uninstalling it, but vibrate still doesn't work. I'm now using a T-Mobile ROM. I'm considering updating to another ROM to see if the problem disappears.
Ringer/Speaker Not Working
Sorry I can't help, but I'd to throw in a problem that I'm having.
My ringer/speaker no longer works. I've tried all of the volume/ringer setttings to no avail. Possibly a hardware issue?
I've updated my ROM to the latest HTC ROM, but this didn't solve my problem. :-(
Anybody any ideas on how to solve this?
Im having the exact same problem too, sometimes the vibrate works, sometimes it doesnt (more often than not), its totally random!!
At first I thought it might be someting to do with the strong magnets in the leather case affecting it somehow?? But now im not so sure:S
It only started a week or so ago but its soooo annoying and I dont really want to go throught the hastle of a hard reset or anything in a "just to see if it fixes it" thing.
If anyone has a solution (preferably not sending it off) I'd love to hear it!!
You could try installing PhoneAlarm, this application does a lot more, but one of it's functions is to set alarm/vibrate etc, it also has profiles and you can control wifi/bluetooth etc etc from it. Downside is that it's a Today plug in.
But, it does have a trial, and might be useful to see if it will correct your ring/vibrate probs.
Hello, everyone.
I am a newbie to Dopod838Pro. I have learnt a lot from this forum.
My phone has stopped vibrating, too. I have tried installing phonealarm and even hard-reset.
It still does not vibrate.
Anyone knows how to solve the problem?
(I guess the problem started when I was "too quick" to dismiss a notification. I dismissed it before the phone had vibrated.)
Possible solution for some see here:

Can't set device to "Disk Drive" in USB to PC settings

Hello guys...
I'm having a problem with setting the radio button "Disk drive" in "Settings/Connections/USB to PC" on my device (touch dual).
After I click the Radio button it says:
"This feature needs a memory card in your device. Please insert one firts before using this feature"
I got a 4GB microSD card in it. I also tried to reset the device and to remove the card and put it back in.
Does anyone here have a clue?
regards,
Pete
This isnt much of a help, I am also looking for a solution to make that work on my 2gb card, still without sucess:

I tried adding those REGkey values to my registry and it does make the radio button lock to disk drive mode, but it doesnt make it appear on my PC.
Anyone else have a working version of this?

Good question...
I'm using the 1.71.09.01_25.75.40.02K radio on the Clean Black v3 rom.
this bug is really annoying... can't even copy no files ~700MB on my niki :'-(
Just checked, the two original roms dont have USBtoPC, I think it was taken from Opal.
Is there an other way to copy larger files to the niki?

interesting, - thanks for the heads up
@ducamie
Your camera and battery problems were probably due to an incompatible xip/sys with the radio. Did you loose audio too? Update the os and you should be fine with 1.71. I'm using it for a week now with a custom rom and no problems so far. Indeed, the phone feels quite more responsive on camera... though it may be just that I like to see it that way
Sorry for the continuing off-topic, I went back to 1.65 radio and its indeed better on the battery drain.

P.S. Sorry, this is Google Translation
P.P.S. When I test it, I'll write a short review.
im download this rom
im downloading this rom now... when i install it i'll wrote my impression
i tried for 10 minutes and works fine.
oh men this is no fair, I have been checking pdaviet since the last release several times a day waiting to see this and post it here... two days I gone missing and you do it
just kidding this is great! I will download and test it soon... will get back with comments of course
im gonna install this tomorrow, i do it now but my phone has a charge of less than 50 percent and i need to back up my contacts cant wait!!
it's quite fast. more stable than v11.
Ok, I have already installed it... it seems to boot faster than previous roms, and I am not experiencing the problems I have seen in v12. Probably because PhamQuang is using the core from 21189 (instead of 21198 as v12). That is why we are still seeing the "old" honeycomb in the Start menu.
THe one thing I noticed so far (just 10 mins of playing ) is that if you have wifi enabled and you are not connected to any network there is no sign that it is enabled in the main Titanium page (not even in the bar at the top). In a previous release I have seen the text " Wi fi enabled " (or similar excuse my bad memory) right below the hour in Titanium.
One more thing, also about Titanium, it seems that now what is sliding when you scroll with your finger is the list (phone, voice mail, text, etc) instead of the "bubble" that marks the selected item. This bubble just sits in the middle of the screen and doesnt moves.
hope you enjoy this rom, I will post after some more use...
we need more reviews to be sure that it is worth installation. At present I am using 6.1 by pdaviet. I am happy with that. I was having a lot of problems with version 11.
its a pretty good rom. im on internet sharing with it right now. i have not tried the wifi so i cannot vouch for vigos. and to me the titanium still works likt **** but atleast i can get my text and e mail unlike in version 11. when i say works like **** i mean finger wise, i guess i expect it to be all smooth scrolling, and its just not. it does seem to boot faster and with a bright new splash screen. overall im happy with it, like it more than v.11
mirchichamu which problems were you having in v11, besides the email and sms in Titanium? I have found that rom quite stable...
I was having frequent crashes with version 11. I was not using titanium. Or manilla. Rather I was using spb pocket plus.

I had frequent crashes with version 11.
Sorry due to connection problem, I had multiple posts. Admin is requested to delet all except one.
did the previous versions have slide to answer? i just noticed this, and its a nice feature. the 6.1 that came on my viva did not do this.
Yes, it has slide-to-answer.
BTW, anyone notice WM6.5 consumes more power than WM6.1?
pboonpume, no. Maybe it consumes a little bit more power than WM 6.1, but I haven't notice it.
The ROM is more stable than previous. But I have some troubles with AudioManager. It doesn't want to run. But it isn't a problem for me, because I use WMP. I don't like HTC AudioManager, because it finds only about 95% of my music on flash card (2gb). It's so strange...
And when it starts, it runs Messages application, but it doesn't work, and you can't see Manilla2D (or Titanium) until you close it.
But these small issues are not critical, and, so, the ROM is very good!
yes, it's very good.
and much better than V11 and V12.
I notice that the battery runs out so fast, compared to WM6.1.
Still thinking if I should go back to WM6.1, since new version V14 of WM6.1 just came out.
pboonpume, it's your choice. As for me, I like WM 6.5 more than 6.1
And my device runs for about 3 days. I listen to music in Bluetooth headphones for about 3 hours a day, recieve mail. But I don't use Wi-Fi.
And I think it is a very good result for WM powered device!
maybe the battery scale is in digital and percentage format,
so i can see that it lowers bit by bit.
I don't talk on the phone much, but i often use EDGE/GPRS.
I feel like i can do it longer with WM6.1. Maybe it's just like that.

SOLVED: My Keyboard has jumped up

After spending the last 5 days trying different rom's and configurations I finally got my phone just as I want it - perfect - (apart from my emails not syncing but that's been like that for a while )
Anyway last night I went to send a text message and noticed my keyboard looks like this

}
as you can see the screen has sort of jumped up a little and it makes the spacebar bigger and all the symbols are half cut off. It is only the portrait keyboard that does this.
I have seen this before by someone on this forum but after a search I can not find the post.
I don't want to hard reset my phone for what'll feel like the thousandth time so does anyone have a solution to my problem. I was thinking that maybe someone could send me their keyboard files (if you know where they are) so i can copy them to my phone and see if it solves it.
Thanks
anyone know of a fix
I had the exact problem only yesterday mate. I flashed Dutty's latest ROM and everything was great. I then installed the currency keyboard cab (it gives a £ on the standard keyboard) and it did what you've shown above. Uninstalling it did nothing, so I did a hard reset. That wasn't a big deal for me as I'd only just flashed the ROM.
What ROM do you have?
just as I finished writing this I thought I'd unistall the currency keyboard plugin and the touch screen 3.3 cab to see if it made any difference.
After a reset my phone completely froze over so I pulled the battery out and then it booted up fine and the problem has gone away.
I've used both of these cab's everytime I have hard reset my phone and never had a problem. Strange.
I'm gonna install the touch cab again and then back everything up and then install the currency one again and see if the problem comes back.
I'm using Miri's HD2 6.5.x V3 rom

I'm pretty sure you'll find it's that cab then. Last night, after a hard reset, I checked the keyboard and it was fine. I then installed the currency cab and the keyboard was immediately knackered. I had to hard reset to get rid of it though, so you've had more luck fixing it than I had.
ok cheers for the info. I'm not going to bother installing the currency cab again then

Saying that, I don't think I've used the £ character since that cab was made lol
