Hello guys....Before I have been able with the help of others in my Diamond and Mogul to have Internet and MMS in Metropcs .... I am going to buy a HTC Hero and flash it to metropcs but I am wondering if this is possible now? or not yet?
Thanks
any ideas will be helpful
No it is not yet possible, or so I have been told by many different people.
I do have a question though. Why on earth would you want to flash a brand new phone from sprint to metro pcs? Metro is crap, and os being bought out by verizon, more crap...

ROFL
ROFL At me for not meeting the 10 character limit!
it works for me....besides 54 a month ? Unlimited everything? Coverage A+++
internet is not 3G but i don't need it, so I am perfect with them.. and besides no Contract. I have been using it since 2007, and no problem at all, except for the stupid MetroPcs workers who does not know how to flash smartphones so I had to go to WirelessToys and they do it
Nice that its workin out for you
Here where I live Metro coverage is wayy bad, and like you said the reps are stupider than a brick, the everything plan i pay for through sprint is only $69.00 a month, so thats not to bad for me, and not much more than metro charges. No contract would be nice, but not gonna happen with Sprint
Its not worth it... Dont put a nice phone like the Hero on metroPCS, they will tell you like crap OHH WE CANNOT GIVE YOU THE SMART PHONE PLAN... So that means no HTML Advanced Web Browsing, Opps No, Msn Messenger, No Skyfire, and Some times You Tube. Oh and you cannot setup Google Market Place due to the WAP Crap settings. I hope this helps. I have the HTC Vogue and everything was working into the stupid code came in. So they change the plans... I hope this helped.

well i mean setting up your phone at the start with your google account.
The g1 and mytouch 3g require you have a data plan to activate your phone (login or create a google account) and require people to keep the plan for the duration of their contract.
There have been a few ways to work around this for a g1 to activate your phone via wifi.
You have to connect to your computer open adb and enter some code so the wifi option will show up and you can configure your network so you can have a phone with out a data plan.

How much are you going to sell the Heroes for? My roommate is looking at getting one, and I'd consider it over a 2 year contract extension with my carrier.
so anyone with the answer here?
well i know that you can just ask a friend and use his/her sim with data plan to activate your phone but can it be hacked like G1 where we use adb to get into the phone and turn on wifi to get through the activation process
it seems that it's the topic that not many people have touched on. so if anyone with the info on this that would be great because i have no friends who has t-mobile sim with data plan around me at all.. and i'm just staring at a very expensive paperweight right now.. i know i need to have data plan for MyTouch but that is eventually for now i just wanna test it out to see if it like it or not so any help from anyone that would be great!
any update on this topic? i am getting a mytouch through my company no contract or plan and i would like to activate this before getting a plan! any help!?!?
T-mobile blocked all phones other then sidekicks to the sidekick apn.
This is so gay because now i have no internet on my G1... Great!
1st t-mobile takes forever to drop cupcake then they dont buy the htc hero still no 3g in reading pennsylvania and now no prepaid data for g1. T-mobile sucks!!!
Solution.
You need cyanogens 3.9.7 because is has vpn support
Then go here http://www.hotspotshield.com/clientless/iphone/ and follow the instrustions.
Make sure u keep the hiptop.t-mobile.com apn active!
how fast is it with that vpn? using 3g im guessing right? i just tried switching tothe shadow for now and cancelled the hiptop.. still not working and i might go back to hiptop

There's GOT to be a way to spoof this. I'm sure if we can read the outgoing packets from a sidekick we can find out what it is that the sidekick is sending that confirms that it's a sidekick.....

I hope this can be worked around.
However, back when I bought mine last year, they said they were going to do this at some point. It's not fair or logical, but eh.
any updates ever coming to this thread ? im really interested in getting this working. Someone more knowledgeable than myself, please feel free to help out
Sorry for posting to an old thread but I thought I'd post an update on the topic since I read TMO shut down the use of the SideKick plan in late 2009.
I logged into my.t-mobile.com and switched my prepaid SIM over the SideKick plan to try out on my G1.
As mentioned in other threads, you'll get no love from the built in browser when using the SideKick plan. However Opera Mini seems to work. IMHO, the problem with this solution is that even with image loading turned off, it easily took a minute for m.cnn.com to load. For me, this rules out many useful services, but I guess you get what you pay for...
FWIW, my SIM is ~3 years old and was converted to pay as you go after my contract period expired. My G1 is running CyanogenMod-4.2.15.1 and is still carrier locked.
im not sure what method they use to detect your phone, but its not limited to sidekick, g1, etc. i broke my g1 a while back. while i was waiting on repair parts, i used my wifes old gravity. i logged in to my.tmobile to pay my bill. it showed my phone as the gravity. for poops and giggles, i tried my sim in an old moto clamshell styled prepaid phone. after my favs updated, i refreshed the my.tmobile page, and the ultra old moto was showing on the screen as my phone. wierd. as far as them shutting down someone's internet access, we had that problem too. i bought a g1 from a friend and put my wifes sim in it. full phone, mms, sms, etc., but no internet access. as soon as google began loading, a screen popped up in the old wap format saying her plan did not support the phone. screwed up thing is, the had something like 100mb/month internet service from her gravity phone. she could not use it until i updated hers to android service. we have edge service here and no chance of ever getting 3g, so its not like she would have ever crossed the 100mb threshold. t-mockery sucks.
Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
so i read a forum today that said the reason opera mini stil works is because of the socks something or other ill find the post again and link it here, they said it even worked after the sim was expired...... dont know if this is true or not but if it is it might be worth looking into hell i have a tmobile expired sim that used to have the g1 plan on it id just use that lmao fk the system and scrw tmobile......
Hi Guys, I'm trying to see if there has been any luck yet with getting the EVO on metropcs network. I heard that it was possible but didn't know if this was similar to the HERO process or what. Any insight or help in the right direction is greatly appreciated.
im interested to know if it can be put on the boost mobile network!
one sold on ebay on friday. ~1200USD$
I am guessing they hacked the MEID to a known boost acceptable one.
Some people have done it with the Sprint Hero, a few got data working, I think the speeds may have been poor...can't remember. I'm having trouble finding the thread, but I believe you have to make some changes (even on the Hero) through CDMA workshop to get features to work.
Howard Forums has better info on trying to go to a different carrier. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1443845-BEFORE-YOU-ASK-POST-Read-THIS-if-you-are-a-beginner-amp-have-questions-about-flashing!
Have you called Metro PCS with your ESN and MSL? They should be able to tell you straight up if you can do it the easy way (don't think you can).

Ok,
All I did to get it to work with calls is use the MSL to load the MetroPcs Prl file to the phone. I found a guy in Miami that added the IMEI to the Metro system and activated the phone for $60. That includes the first month of service.
So, now I have an Evo working for calls and text on Metro.
I have no idea how to get the internet working.
Can someone help?

I cant help since I dont have an Evo yet to test but I came across this info that might be relevant before flashing to Metro.
Back in 2007, Metro initially only planned 3g data in 7 different cities: http://www.intomobile.com/2007/12/11/metropcs-planning-3g-service-in-seven-markets.html
Then in January of 2010, Metro decides to skip future 3g deployment in favor of LTE: http://connectedplanetonline.com/3g4g/news/metropcs-4g-leap-0113/
There's a pretty big gap in between these two announcements so I don't know how many markets Metro deployed 3g data since 2007 so I'll have to call them and find out... but I wouldn't want to be stuck on 2g for the rest of the time I had the phone (since they aren't rolling out more 3g and their 4g is LTE and not WiMax)
Feel free to correct me if I am wrong

Here is some info that will get the web going...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=704161
Just wondering if the Epic can be used on MetroPCS like the Evo can. I recently sold my Captivate for an Evo, and I hate to say it, but I think I liked the Captivate more. Better screen and better processor is hard to downgrade from
If it's possible to flash the Epic to Metro, I would pick it up in a second.
I haven't found any search results on Google or here, so I figured there was no harm in asking.
Thanks in advance for any help or answers you might have.
From what I've read, slim to none. At least, if you plan to use the internet for anything besides web browsing with the stock browser (ie, forget anything that accesses the internet directly within an app).
The problems:
1. MetroPCS uses proxies for everything.
2. Android proxy support sucks. No, wait... that's not strong enough. Android proxy support sucks monkey balls. In theory, you might be able to build your own kernel that includes iptables support and use iptables with some handwritten helper apps to deal with them... but you'll basically be trailblazing virgin territory, and mostly on your own. Your phone is unlikely to ever work properly. Android's crude proxy support only (kind of) works with the built-in browser. This isn't kiddie stuff. This isn't even "L33t" stuff. If you're a true Linux God who works for Metro, chills with Linus once or twice a year, and has access to Metro's internal documentation (or possibly the guy who created Cyanogen, with a close friend who works for Metro), you MIGHT get it to work... eventually. Nobody less is likely to ever get an Epic to work properly on Metro.
3. Android depends on Sprint for things like network-based location service. Guess what isn't going to work on MetroPCS?
4. Did I mention that Metro is 1xRTT, and the one place where they have 4G (Las Vegas) uses LTE, which isn't compatible with the Epic?
Really, if you add up what it would cost to buy an unsubsidized Epic and 24 months of service with MetroPCS, and compare it to the cost of buying an Epic with a 24 month Sprint contract and 24 months of Sprint, it's insane to even contemplate trying to use the Epic with MetroPCS. The only reason to ever use a Sprint Android phone on Metro is if you have an old one that you'd just chuck into a drawer, and would rather give it to a needy friend or family member with MetroPCS. Buying Sprint's most expensive phone at full retail to use on Metro would be insane.
(By the way, I know this because I *was* going to give my old Hero to a needy friend with Metro).
If the evo can gain access then most likely the epic can. I'm just making this broad assumptions considering the run the same operating system with mostly all the same functions.

Maybe you can use the Epic on Boost Mobile and what are the limitations with Boost Mobile besides 4G?
From what I remember when was with Metro (had a Touch Pro), Howard Forums are where a lot of their modding community hangs out. At least that was where all the work/discussion seemed to be going on back then. A simply google search should show the way.
The keys are internet & MMS. Internet tends to be the first thing to get unlocked, but without that MMS is hopeless. Even then MMS isn't always possible, depends a lot on the phone. In the past HTC phones were very easy to make fully function, with Samsung & LG phones being rather difficult. Also keep in mind that, as much as Metro used it as a marketing ploy, they really don't like the flashed phones ideas. They've already nearly disabled all flashed phones once by changing the passwords needed to access the web proxies.

native sprint coverage only, no roaming.
for some this may be good, for others it may be a dealbreaker.
to make mms work, you need to simply alter the mmsc URL in the ##DATA# > MSL menu and change it from Sprint's to boost's
changing the MMS url is easy for boost..same w/ making internet work... Samsung phones are CAKE to put on boost FWIW

Uhhh...no. The Epic has no LTE capability. Only WiMax chipset.
The epic doesn't have an lte radio, that's why it doesn't work.

This. ^ Metro does have 4G but it is LTE, unless the Wimax driver gets a software upgrade in the future, no Metro 4G currently possible. Though you can still pay for Sprint 4G service if you turn on the 4G radio and pay for a 24 hour pass for like 15 bucks.

Even if you could get all the 3G services working properly, you could never use it as a 4G phone on MetroPCS. Epic is WiMax, Metro is LTE.
Trust me, you want the 4G. Now this is my opinion only so take it for what it is worth. From what I have seen of the existing Metro 3G network it sucks plain and simple, not just for data, but voice services as well. I have tested out the 4G network a bit in South Florida though and am duly impressed. Speed was very good, and even though I don't believe 4G is used for voice services yet, the phone I saw still had much better call performance (most notably actually receiving incoming calls).

All I need is the boost mobile Orlando file. You can install it by doing on your phone ##prl# select your prl then enter your msl code.
However make sure you get a prl that is for the sprint side of boost mobile (CDMA) and not the Nextel (iden) side of Boost. Now you are on boost mobile after a reboot. But getting a boost customer care Rep to add your evolution to the database may be another story... can try to auto program by doing ##786# enter msl code and reboot but u may need to redo the prl as it resets your phone to out of the box.

as to weather it is legit is another story. You can not force Boost or any other company to place your phone on their network. I was able to get my old touch diamond on vzw by placing a vzw prl on it and then doing a *2 and activing the phone like normal... now vzw has closed that loop hole. Their are companies like Cricket that will be nation wide. Cricket (aka leap wireless) will be selling Cricket phone at Sprint Stores in the markets that Cricket is not in now. http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...ireless-Cricket-strikes-MVNO-deal-with-Sprint
Well unfortuntley cricket isn't covered in newyork, so I can't go there. But as for boost mobile I'm sure it's true there's thousands of post and videos on YouTube of people proving it works. And they charge around 80 bucks to do it. I can't believe it's so difficult to find a way how to do it on the internet, as if someone wiped every guide about this out there
