Hey guys, Just wanted to let everyone know, I dropped by the T-mobile store ( USA ) today to ask around and see if anybody there knew about the G2 ( MyTouch, What tmobile will be calling it when released. )
Unlike many of the rumors according to online sources, it is in fact, coming to T-mobile only. Thats right, T-mobile is the only company to get the badass phone xD!
I asked a buddy of mine that worked there about release dates and other cool new things coming for T-mobile users. He told me the G2 (MyTouch) is scheduled to be released mid/late of next month. Yep, in August. And that they had a manager down in San antonio Texas, training on the phone as we speak. I will be going back tomorrow when he gets back in town, and get all the juicy details and post them here! ( And if he lets me, some pictures ) And also we have another goody coming to us, Were aren't at 3g JUST quite yet. But August 1st, We will be getting EDGE everywhere on the T-mobile network. That was guaranteed from the store manager there. And 3G will be coming for us, sometime around december of this year. ( 3G everywhere ) not just in metro areas. ( Hurray for all the country people....IE....me )
Now I know this isn't an official saying or whatever. I don't have links, and I don't have sources you guys know and trust. But I do trust buddies of mine and the people that work at this T-mobile store. They haven't let me down yet. So, I guess we can only wait and see if it does come to T-mobile only.
Like someone said though, and I totally agree. T-mobile would be complete idiots to let this phone go to someone else. If it was to happen. There not dumb. So hurray for t-mobile users. We should have our brand new MyTouch at the end of August. So we don't have to wait to much longer guys!

If you go to the T-mobile myTouch website it has a countdown timer. It says 20 days and some change. Also lets you see all the info and features of it.
Of course it will be the same thing as the HTC Magic on Vodafone and Rogers...
Exactly. Seems like tmobile is actually the LAST to be getting it....
In fact, Im getting a vodafone magic shipped to me tomorrow. I have at&t, and I will have it before T-mobile!
lol i double checked the date when he posted pre-sale is already done too it started july 7th and from my confirmation mine should arrive aug 3rd
Oh and welcome to the forums

I love how on all their promotions they are quick to include " super fast 3G" network. Here in Jacksonville, Fl. it will be 2012 be fore we get 3g. By then eveyone else will have 4 or 5g. I am really starting to hate Tmobile.
But phone looks great. I think I will stick with my G1. I like the real keyboard, just me though.

seriously? the presale started july 8. the preorders are being shipped at the beginning of august. these two things have been known and officially announced facts for at least a month now.
but the other guys are quite correct, the same phone has been out on the european market since at least the first week of may.
by the way, confirming all of this would have been as simple as checking the t-mobile website.

go to any local T-mobile store. they were all issued 3-4 phones to show customers one of each color at least. The packaging is really nice also. leather bag with a nice cloth sack, and nice headphones and usb/charger
"badass" phone? Yeah... with a whopping 192mb of RAM as opposed to the 288 the rest of the planet gets. Badass indeed.
I'm over the MyTouch 3G. I went ahead and bought a used G1 and am saving my upgrade till later this year, early next year till T-mo gets a better Android phone. When I mentioned this to the rep adding my data plan, he implied that as a fellow phone geek, I was doing the right thing and that while he couldn't give details, I would be very happy with what's in the pipeline.
between the four major us carriers, 15-20 android devices are to be released in the next year. so far only three of those are slated for carriers other than TMO. so yes, you'll be happy with whats coming down the pipe.

OK, so I know this isn't the Hero forum but with the amount of people running Android on their Vogues, I know this will be welcome news to a number of people here.
Last night, I was talking to a friend of mine who works at Telus, and he promised me that Telus is getting the Hero this fall. He's 100% sure of this fact.
This also means there's a fair chance that it will come to Bell Canada, Verizon, and/or Sprint.
I'd still rather have the Samsung i7500, but I'll be more than happy with a Hero.

Sadly, no. I pumped my friend for as much info as I could, all I got was "the fall."
May 24, New York City

almost exactly 11 months after this

I am sensing SUNDAY June 12th AT&T release of Samsung Galaxy Attain (almost 11 months after the Captivate)!!!
How long was it from when they made the announcement last year did the Galaxy S actually go on sale on AT&T?
Here you go, last years dates I posted earlier
kreoXDA said:
Do you guys remember how the first Galaxy was introduced on the 4 carriers last year?
Let me remind you
June 4th - first release in Asia
June 29th - launch party in New York City where it was first announced that 4 models were coming to 4 carriers, with no dates. (+25 days)
Later on, gradually, release dates were being announced about 1-3 weeks prior to a particular release. The phone was released as follows:
T-Mob - July 15th (+41 days)
AT&T - July 18th (+44 days)
Sprint, keyboarded CDMA version - August 30th (+87 days)
Verizon, CDMA version - September 9th (+97 days)
We learned that SGS1 was even coming to the United States 3.5 weeks after the phone was released in Asia.
The quickest provider T-Mob got it almost 6 weeks after the first country.
The slowest provider VZW - 3 months after.
So give this some time, sit back, relax, wait for bug reports from the UK beta testers , and enjoy your fixed (or maimed) version in a few short weeks.
peace

Note the US Launch party last year was 25 days after first international release, and this event is around 25 days after Korea/UK release
lol after dealing with the ATT Craptivate for a year I'll gladly "beta test" the vanilla samsung GS2
good luck with your carrier updates. I'm done purchasing US phones "variants" that force you to use reorient kernels for the Roms.
Thanks for the release date info. Looks like they're following a similar schedule... just bumped ahead 1 month from last year =)
Still, as much as I'd like to wait for a US variant... I don't really want to have to sign a contract to get one, nor do I want to put up with the bloatware and filth they put on the phone. Rooting and flashing ROMs on my T-mobile spec Galaxy S was annoying, having to ODIN back to certain firmwares before being able to flash a new ROM.
And the one question that I'm still wondering... will the US be getting a tegra version? That would suck =(

i've been off contract since Dec. i had originally settled on getting the Infuse when it was first announced but instantly fell in love with the SGS2 and decided to wait. but... i need a new phone NOW. actually i needed a new one 2 months ago but decided to hold strong for the SGS2... but it's come to a point where my current phone is damn near unusable, so i think i'm going to get the infuse when it launches and roll the dice on the sgs2 coming out before the remorse period ends. or failing that just give it back and wait some more for the sgs2 to release.
I think the best option for some of us is to buy the carrier branded version on contract, sell it, and use that money to get the vanilla SGS 2. After dealing with all the Captivate issues as well I'm never buying a carrier branded Android ever again.

not to mention the Craptivate looks ugly as hell and nothing like a SGS
If i was on att there would be no doubt id go with international like you said no waiting for carrier update, no carrier branding and missing hardware features.
I really wish carriers kept the design the same as the international it would be so much easier to update and to port roms

That's one point where you're crazy. The Captivate is the nicest Galaxy S and has a lot less plastic than any other one. Everyone has told me they liked the Captivate over the other Galaxy S variants. I've been very happy with the Captivate, but not as happy about the AT&T branding and waiting for their crap.
I would much rather spend the money and buy the phone unlocked than buy it from ATT.

Only issue I see with this is warranty support. If Samsung US would support a UK model fine, but if it requires international shipping that would give me pause.
What if the US version has NFC? Would that change your mind?
Yes, NFC is useless right now, but wouldn't that at least lower your resell value of the UK version whenever one else in your area has NFC?

Given the fact (I hope) all 4 major carriers are getting it, and AT&T, VZW and T-Mob are in an NFC payment system alliance , the chances of US getting NFC versions are not extremely low

I don't see NFC being that important to me right away. I am guessing by the time it becomes important to me, I will already be looking at another phone.
Also, even though the UK might not be getting the NFC version, you probably will still be able to buy a NFC version unlocked from another country.
Hate to say it... but until the iPhone gets NFC it's not worth worrying about.
Devices still need to be upgraded in stores, airlines, and what not to accept NFC no? The above poster is probably correct, the phones are going to need to be widely available before companies spend the money to upgrade their equipment.

Why, because the iPhone has the market share lead and will dictate what the market will do? No, that's Android.
Samsung Galaxy S2 owners who bought their device SIM-free are at the back of the UK Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade queue, Samsung has confirmed to CNET UK.
And the reason you've been kept waiting? It's because Samsung is waiting for some mobile networks to finish testing the update, so it can be sure the software will work whatever network you're on.
SIM-free S2 owners will get the ICS update "once we've got all of the operator pieces on board", said Simon Stanford, VP of Samsung Telecommunications and Networks for Samsung UK and Ireland, speaking exclusively to CNET UK today.
The upgrade process Samsung has used to push out ICS to S2 owners means SIM-free devices can't be updated until all mobile networks have tested and approved ICS -- and since some operators are still testing and approving the update, some SIM-free S2 owners are still waiting to get Ice Cream Sandwich.
'It's got to work'
"We work in conjunction with our partners to bring ICS to the existing base -- that's primarily what needs to happen, whatever network operator that may be," said Stanford. "In this particular instance, the open market variant [ie SIM-free] you would expect to come out first."
Stanford confirmed, however, SIM-free S2 owners have been left twisting in the wind. "As an open-market customer you will be on a variety of networks, so it's got to work on whichever network you have chosen," he said.
SIM-free S2 owners -- many of whom shelled out extra upfront for an unlocked handset in the hopes of being at the front of the upgrade queue -- have in fact trailed operators such as Three, which was the first operator to release the ICS update. O2 has also now pushed out the ICS update.
"We were working with our operators to make sure that we brought it out to as many people as we can," Stanford added. "Vodafone we're expecting imminently [to release ICS]. Open market will be once we've got all of the operator pieces on board... It'll come at very much the same time."
'We don't want to disadvantage anyone'
Stanford would not confirm exactly how many SIM-free S2 owners have received the ICS update so far, nor give a completion date for the ICS update rollout -- he would only say: "We're really pushing it hard over the next coming weeks."
"It's always very tight, in terms of the testing processes and all the rest of it," he said. "It's not a switch in Korea and then the whole thing just activates every device that is out there... We work very closely with the networks to help them get ICS out.
"Everyone holds their hands up and says, 'Well, we need to do more in these instances.'"
Asked whether consumers would be better off buying a device from a network rather than SIM-free if they want to ensure they get future Android updates promptly, Stanford said: "In this instance [they would have been better off on a network]. Moving forward, I anticipate the upgrades will come a lot faster, at once, with everybody."
He added that it's not Samsung's intention to prioritise SIM-free device buyers in future, rather it wants to level the playing field so everyone gets the update around the same time.
"We don't want to disadvantage anyone, we don't want to say that they have to buy it from anywhere, we want everyone to have the same experience, whether or not it's open-market, network, to us they're exactly the same," he said.
'Communication can be managed better next time'
Stanford conceded that communications is an area where Samsung can make its own improvements. And he apologised to any SIM-free S2 owners who have been disappointed by how long it's taken to get ICS.
"The communication itself can be managed a bit better next time," he said. "It's just an ongoing process piece that we work very closely on to try and make sure we get it absolutely bang on so we apologise to anyone -- we really apologise to anyone -- who has been disappointed by this.
"We're always desperate to get [updates] out as fast as we can, there's no reason for us not to. We don't like to have unhappy customers, it goes against everything that we do. We do take it very seriously. It's communication sometimes we need to work on -- I accept that. That there needs to be perhaps more overall communication with the partners involved as well," he said.
"We are happy now that ICS is rolling out and those people that we've spoken to are very happy with it," Stanford added. "We're always looking for ways to speed it up -- with regards to Galaxy Note... the upgrade on that will be a lot quicker."
Are you still waiting for your SIM-free S2 to be upgraded to ICS? Let us know in the comments, or post your own update over on our Facebook page, and watch my video below to see what you're missing.

I have unlcoked phone and i will just keep flashing other country firmwares untill samsung finsh testing it on all these networks
This is a joke in all fairness, however if you're on XDA there's no reason why this should affect your ability to get hold of ICS.
But, for the majority of the population (who aren't on XDA) this is just unforgivable.
Worth waiting for a finished ICS six months down the line . No way will i change to the current half baked versions .

Network testing haha. Why have other countries got the unbranded update straight away ? But here in the uk we wait for the networks to test. I think uk networks have some sort of deal with samsung or it maybe to do with sgs3. But "waiting for networks to test" jus isnt gna fly cz that a lie.

This really is a sorry excuse for logic. To really follow it would mean Samsung UK has to wait till ALL cellular carriers around the world confirm the UK SGS2 SIM-Free ICS update works with their networks?!
Otherwise, there *might* be some unfortunate UK SGS2 SIM-Free owner running ICS that encounters problems when he moves to Timbuktu and use his phone with the local cell network!
Samsung UK... YOU SUCK!
Does suck but how many ordinary citizens even know about ice cream sandwich, most people don't have a clue I bet a lot of people are still on the original firmwares that shipped with the phone. My sister wanted to go back to gingerbread as she thinks battery life on ICS sucked even though she got the official O2 update.
So for normal citizens who use a phone without worrying about updates this won't effect them but for us and other geeks and such its bothersome but hey that's why we come here and flash whatever comes our way from other countries regardless if it's final or not or buggy but because we can.

You spent the money on great hardware and rock solid gingerbread.
Free software upgrades to a complete new system are a relatively new thing. You can expect / demand updates to GB but to ICS I don't think so.

Give it a rest, and if your sooooo adamant on getting ics, there are many available downloads right here on these pages. Otherwise, the 1% of s2 owners on this forum aren't going to make a blip on samsungs radar when the 19,999,000 are happy with there phones.
Relax, be happy, there are worse things going on in the world at the moment.

Amazing world we live in
What a load of crap.
Unbranded updates for Galaxy S and SII always came either first or alongside Optus release, here in Australia - Telstra only just released 2.3.6 last month and the rest of the carriers and unbranded was released many months ago.
It just doesn't add up. Track record shows this excuse is a total load of bs.
Why the hell isn't Samsung responsible for testing the carriers? For example Samsung Australia division should be totally responsible for testing the Unbranded version of all 4 carrier networks. These phones are not even sold by the carriers so it's not their responsibility !!
This is so damn lazy of Samsung.
Yeah right. They just dont want the carriers to ***** that others are getting the update before their customers are. Just like how they didnt want to make sure every carriers phone were working ok before selling people this device unlocked and just how they didnt care to update people after 2.3.4. My phone has had problems since then and samsung hasnt cared to update. This just leaves a bad taste in my mouth from samsung. I wanted the S3 but I dont even know if I want to buy a phone they arent going to update.

Yeah right. Unbranded devices never got updated past 2.3.4 and its been buggy. Anytime I restart my phone the icons move around and I have to move them back. Dont think you a moment you are getting a more polished update. You are getting the same update that has been psoted on here from some random carrier from a country you probably have never heard it. Pathetic Samsung. They even lied to us saying we would have it by the end of Q1.
Samsung UK are crap, exactly the same as when our GS2 was stuck on 2.3.3 and I knew for a fact that newer ones with the same product code were shipping with, or updating to 2.3.4, and all they kept saying was no update was available, just vecause they couldn't be bothered to fix the original HIDSWVER that they'd forgotten to add updates for.
In the end last weekend I flashed the Polish LPS onto it as it kept locking up, seems to be ok now. And the Polish LPS one includes the generic UK (XEU) and generic CPW UK (CPW), csc customisation packs anyway, so no reason at all for Samsung UK to be making up this BS. It even comes with all the UK network APN settings preloaded in it. I've never seen an unbranded update come after branded ones until this mess. Same as O2 on 2.3.6 with Gingerbread, and unbranded on 2.3.4 (or in my case 2.3.3). People buy unbranded to get a clean update, not to wait for all the branded crap to be tested.
I noticed that Virgin Mobile USA has stopped selling the Desire 816 and has removed it's page. Is this a bad sign in terms of future updates? This worries me, as its only been on the provider for about 10 months...
http://www.virginmobileusa.com/shop/cell-phones/android-phones/
link showing the absence of the 816^^^
I sent an email but got no answer yet. Just a reply saying they will get back to me. Sucks, this is really a great mid phone.
I know the Optimus V used to be taken off Virgin Mobile listings only to reappear weeks later. Of course the Opt. V is probably Virgin Mobiles best selling phone and the same can't be said about the Desire 816.
I see that more than just the 816 are gone. There were 4 or 5 other phones that were temp. out of stock which are now gone, the Galaxy S3 being one of them.
It seems like something is going on at VM. Maybe the rumors of VM shutting it's doors to everything but the Walmart DDR plan and Assurance Wireless. That could be a reason to just sell their stock and then remove them from the listings when they sell out.
This is so sad.. Lolipop for the Virgin 816 chances probably just went down considerably...:crying:
i noticed that they still have the desire 510 for sale and i dont know why they would remove the 816 and not that one as well???
makes me wonder
Virgin Announced they will not update the 816 any more :crying::crying::crying:
https://twitter.com/moversi/status/578357556747202560
We still have CM12.1,even if no update to 5.0. I haven't had mine phone but a month. Really blows.
I believe this has more to do with hTC than VM. They had considered a 6-month lifespan for 816. They released the next model (desire 820) along with 816g in September. I don't think they'd keep making and selling the device long after that as it seems to be a wrong business decision.

No, HTC is still updating the 816 to Lollipop. It's VM that's deciding not to give the Lollipop update to the VM version of the device. Other variants of the 816 will still get the update.
Not getting L from Virgin Mobile isn't that big a deal for us because it's almost guaranteed that we'll get it after those overseas gets an official version from HTC.
It's those that don't know anything about roms and the like that will be completely screwed over. There is absolutely NO valid reason why VM would decide NOT to update, other than greed or they just don't plan on existing for much longer.

Yeah, same here. I won't be buying another Virgin Mobile phone again for myself or my family. I'd be an idiot if I did.
A friend of mine bought his slightly over a month ago. He knows nothing of rooting or roms. He is going to be quite upset. Too late to return it and it's already reached EOL.
Well, I'll be expecting someone to port the other variants of Sense 7 and 5.0.2 over to VM version within a few months. It does suck for people who don't know anything about rooting and custom roms.
Still, if you consider that the device is stable and completely functioning in it's current KitKat condition, maybe it wouldn't be so horrible for the average user. Nevertheless it's a tasteless move by VM. I remember how furious I was when hTC didn't update my beloved One XL to sense 5. I went on tempering with it till I bricked it good times
Turns out that dude on twitter lied
VIrgin Mobile's 816 still got the update to lolli haha

He came back out a couple weeks after that statement was made and said that it would get lollipop.
So what about marshmallow? It would really suck for this phone to be unsupported after I bought it from QVC in October. My old S3 kept updating through kitkat.
It has been scheduled for marshmellow in Jan or Feb of next yr. Just keep it and enjoy.
