when you plug in the phone with the usb cable just select internet sharing from the list, Last one. Your PC should do the rest.
Unless you mean use yur PC internet connection so you can browse the net on your phone...This way i have no idea....

AFAIK, if you have activesync working, and if you have the setting "This computer is connected to:" as "The internet", and not "Work Network", the phone will automatically try and use the PCs internet connection. I'd test that theory for you, but I can't as we use a proxy server at work and the phone won't connect to the internet because of that.

Hi all,
I live in a country where GPRS is very expensive to live with, however I have a DSL connection at home, and I would like to have a program that enables my wizard to connect to the internet via my PC DSL connection, that is, the wizard connects through BT to my PC, and I will browse the internet (in my wizard) using the DSL connection on my PC.
this will allow me to be around the house while surfing the intenet via a DSL connection.
could you tell me please if there is a program to do so? does Wireless modem utility enable this? I strongly prefer freeware cause I dont have a credit card (I dont have money also!! )
Regards
It does it out of the box. Plug in your USB cable and it will start ActiveSync and your Wizard will share the PC's net connection. You can also do it via Wi-Fi. I have a wireless router at home, and I can sit in the living room and browse the net at broadband speeds on my phone - neat!

If you are connected PPC to PC you always have possibility to have internet connection on PPC by wired connection USB, by Bluetooth or WiFi( with some tricks or new AS 4.2)
Your PPC will show the connection to your PC's DSL connection in the network status window if you tap on the signal strength indicator.
My MDA II shows it like this for example:
Thank you all,
You are very neat and helpful guys

I don't think you can ActiveSync over wi-fi. You can browse the net via your wi-fi router though.

No problem, did you get it to work?
Hi,
Is there a way, to only use GPRS/UMTS connection while the device is connected via USB? When I'm connected via USB, my Hermes tries to use the ActiveSync connection for Internet, which won't work (company proxy), so I want to have UMTS connection, but still be able to remote-control via USB...
mine use gprs when i choose my isp in settings->connections->connections-Advanced-select network
even when connected to activesync
hm, I have for both settings there "E-Plus Internet", i.e. my provider... still it doesn't connect. As soon as I disconnect USB, it works.
then i would try unchecking enable advanced network functionality
in usb to pc in connections
still the same... doesn't connect

On the PC head into ActiveSync, open up the Connection Settings for the device in question, try unchecking "Allow data connections on device when connected to PC".
Disconnect the device from USB, then reconnect and sync, then try to access the internet on the device.
hm, I thought exactly that option should be checked, because it says "allow wireless connections while connected to the PC". Nonetheless, I unchecked it, dis-/reconnected it, still no go.
Is this because you dont have the net on your PC?
Maybe your provider doesn't allow tethering. I.e. using the phones internet connection whilst connected to the pc.
You can use PDAnet ,download trial from here
http://software.palminfocenter.com/product.asp?id=4237
this will allow you to use the internet whilst connected to the pc, but this will also mean the pc can also use the internet of the phone, i am not sure if this is exactly what you want, as you dont indicate the reason why you want to be able to connect to the net on the device. Anyway using PDAnet, you will still be able to sync, browse and use the device as you normally would, as well as access the internet on the PPC and PC.

There is internet on the PC, though behind a proxy with auth (and some blocked stuff). Since the proxy auth isn't RFC conform it seems, using the internet connection on the phone doesn't work with most programs (i.e. weather updates), some programs even don't have a proxy option (and the one from "connections" doesn't work either). That's why I want the phone to connect itself by UMTS, while I still can remotecontrol it with PocketController. As everybody already said, it should be possible.

mh, the PC shouldn't use the phone as modem, that would violate the security restrictions here badly. I'll try PDAnet and see if I can restrict that.
Edit: PDANet also can't connect. could it be possible, that it is some Windows policy on the Desktop preventing that?
Can you turn Data Connection off in CommManager on the PDA?

hm, not really....
I am interested in this as well.
I have the Titan (Sprint Mogul) and would like to be able to connect it to my work computer VIA USB and be able to charge the phone and control it via MyMobiler but the phone should use its EVDO cellular connection for the internet. Instead it appears to use the internet that my work computer has which blocks certain sites and ports for IMAP and POP.
I would like the phone to be able to check gmail (via IMAP) as well as go to any website I would like.

There is a setting in activesync on the host side that switches network traffic to the PC. You can deselect this. If you do not, your HD2 will close it's local connections and access the network via your PC's network connection.

Excuse me I don't want to sound noob but where is that ? I can't find it.
Hi!
ActiveSync -> File -> Connection settings ... -> check Allow wireless connections ... if you want your HD2 to retain it's WiFi connection.
(This is AS 4.5, btw.)
/P
Hey thanks, I checked it was already ticked. It seems I cannot use activesync at all it's killing the internet connection.
I did not have the problem with HD on wm6.5 but I do with the HD2. I've been looking for a solution as I ve been reading that many people are suffering from the same problem but couldnt find what was wrong.
It's not a problem, its working as designed. When using ActiveSync the phone will use your computer's internet connection. I assume your computer has internet.

What I mean by killing is disconnecting the Wifi connection, I get wifi hardware error and can't reconnect unless I unplug the USB activesync connection.

Is it the wifi connection on your computer that is disconnecting, or the wifi connection on the HD2??
he means on the HD2, i've no problems maintaing a connection with it checked in the mobile device centre.
I'm searching like crazy but can't find a thing.
When I connect my HD2, I get to choose 3 modes. The last is to give free my internet connection the the connected PC. But then I can just choose my 3G connection and not the WLAN.
Is there a way to add WLAN as well? It means I would use my HD2 as a WLAN stick.
thx tomylee
go to startmenu->tools->wifi router
thx, but there i can choose only from cell connection or COM1
Am I right in thinking that you want to connect your phone to a Wireless network, and then use it as a modem for your PC?
If I am then I'm sorry, but this can't (currently) be done.
Best option? Get a Wifi dongle off eBay. They're dirt cheap - I saw one for less than £5!!
OK THX
strange that they block this
This is possible if you use WMWifirouer. http://global.wmwifirouter.com/features/

You cannot use your phone as a wireless adapter (connect it to your PC and pick up a wireless signal)
You can connect your phone to your PC and use the 3G on your phone for a PC Internet connection (i use this on my laptop sometimes when i need proper access to Outlook)(this is 1 reason i don't have an iPhone)
You can set up your phone as a router (other PC/devices find it and use the phones 3G connection)
You can connect your phone to the PC, and get the phone to use your DSL (broadband) connection by default and NOT your phones 3G.

I think it can be done with WMWifiRouter, or their Feature description is false.

but unfortunately WMWifiRouter is not free, and as said before, there are some really cheap Wifi dongles on the Internet, much cheaper than WMWifiRouter and your HD2 together.
I tried WmWifiRouter before and it was able to do the wanted feature.
Just give it a try.

If you mean tethering your HD2 to your PC and allowing your PC to connection to the internet via your phones internet then just go to the Andriod Market and do a serch for tether apps or internet sharing apps. If your PC has WiFi capabilities just use a hotspot app.
If you mean share your computers internet connection with your HD2, I really don't know it that is possible. But to do it you would have to go into your connections settings on your PC and he k allow other computers and devices to connect to the internet through this computer. It might be in networking. But what is easieast is just vet a WiFi router and use the WiFi apartheid ilities to connect.

Sorry about the spelling I was sleepy when I typed that. The easy way is to get a WiFi router to hook up to your home internet connection and set up a WiFi network at your home. Then you can use your HD2'S WiFi capabilities to connect to your WiFi network while at home. It is really nice because you do not have to be tethered to a computer or a hub with a USB cable. Now to be honest I really don't know if you can share your computers internet connection with your HD2 via your USB cable. If it is possible you will have to check allow other computers and devices to connect to the internet through this computer. This should be in networks you might have to try to set up a home network on your computer to allow your HD2 to connect to the internet via your USB cable. Hope this helps.
I had see an option to share PC's internet connection with phone via USB in motoman MyPhone 4G port for HD2. did not test it tho'

It's possible.
Please use "Reverse USB Tethering" with a kernel which supports USB Tethering.
