There is a setting in activesync on the host side that switches network traffic to the PC. You can deselect this. If you do not, your HD2 will close it's local connections and access the network via your PC's network connection.

Excuse me I don't want to sound noob but where is that ? I can't find it.

Hi!
ActiveSync -> File -> Connection settings ... -> check Allow wireless connections ... if you want your HD2 to retain it's WiFi connection.
(This is AS 4.5, btw.)
/P

Hey thanks, I checked it was already ticked. It seems I cannot use activesync at all it's killing the internet connection.
I did not have the problem with HD on wm6.5 but I do with the HD2. I've been looking for a solution as I ve been reading that many people are suffering from the same problem but couldnt find what was wrong.

It's not a problem, its working as designed. When using ActiveSync the phone will use your computer's internet connection. I assume your computer has internet.

What I mean by killing is disconnecting the Wifi connection, I get wifi hardware error and can't reconnect unless I unplug the USB activesync connection.

just connect to AS 4 and use it (of couse your PC must have internet connection)
I'm using ActiveSync 4.1, WIFI to connect my PC to the internet and an USB port to synchronize my Pocket (SPV M3000 /Qtek 9100)
When my Pocket PC is connected to the PC, this "lock" the WIFI acces to the Internet. After synchronisation, it's necessary to reboot my computer to be ale to use the WIFI acces to internet.
Do you have an idea to correct this problem (this never happens before with ActiveSync 3.8) ?
Thanks in advance.
Thank God for that I'm having the same problem when i connect my wizard to my PC for active Sync my wifi in fact my internet connection locks up. When i look in network connections on my PC I have another Local Area Connection 3 ??????
But my web is locked ????
As soon as i disconect my wizard i loose the LAC3 but have to reboot my PC to get web acess again???
Anyone got any ideas???
I dont have wifi acces at home but when i connect to the pc which is connected to adsl, the wizard is also connected to the lan as i am able to surf the internet. It seems perhaps you have established another connection via your pc? my wifi is disconnected btw.

I have the same problem. After a tip from someone on the MS Active sync forum who said it may be something to do with security I have worked out the following.
1) All computers loose all netork connections if they are connected to the router wirelessly and I try to Activesync.
2) If the Activesunc computer is connected to the router via CAT5 and I Active Sync then all is ok.
3) If I disable wireless security both WEP and WPA I can Activesync with my laptop connected wirelessly via to the router without loosing my network connections.
4) Something strange is happening still: When the PDA is connected to Activesync both computers keep popping up the UPNP icon telling me new network device found, even though its been connected for some time.
5) I have tested with WPA security, I will test with WEP next to see if it still has the same problem.
All computers loose all netork connections if they are connected to the router wirelessly and I try to ActiveSync.

I hit this issue with my home LAN when syncing via cable - all wireless clients dropped their connections and I got an earful from the lodger
I found that this doesn't occur when syncing via Bluetooth.
Mmm, thanks for the info - I spent hours trying to get this running yesterday and hitting the same problems - I actually cocked up my entire network and had to reboot everything! Will try bluetooth later...

are you sure, that you're connected to wifi? i've never had this problem, but once i noticed that when device is still connecting to wifi network and at the same time you'll try to use - for example - IE, then it will automatically try to connect via GPRS. but when it connect with wifi, IE will use that over GPRS...
I have the same problem too.
Qtek support tell me that , if the wifi connection is poor the gprs connects instead. A small help could be increasing the power to the wifi-card.
But that was not a solution for me...

Yes I am sure I'm connected with Wi-Fi. Sometimes I see connections to both GPRS and Wi-Fi.

as Paltkungen said - when connection with WLAN is poor and it disconnects even only for a while, wizard will automatically try to connect with gprs, without waiting for reestablishing of wifi connection
i even had such situation today in the morning. i've connected with WLAN and then started browsing with IE. after a while i saw that there is GPRS connection active as well! that's because wifi lost connection just for a while, so GPRS took this connection over.

Maintaining 3G connectivity when on ActiveSync

At work our network is super locked down with a firewall. When I charge my 8525 at work, it loads up ActiveSync and switches over to the PC internet connection. When that happens; my irc, aim and msn connections all die. I want to be able to charge my phone and sync my calendar...but I dont want to use the PC internet connection.
I searched and only found people having problems when they want to use to the PC internet and cant... in my situation, its the opposite.
I have tried disabling the tcp/ip protocol for the WM5 LAN connection, but that kills the usb connection all together, not just the internet.
Any ideas on this? or am I the first one to ever want this?

why not just use the power adapter instead of the usb and then sync it at the end of the day
Hi,
Have you tried opening activesync, going to file then connection settings and unchecking the allow USB connections? This seems to work for me, my SPV M3100 charges and still shows the 3G connection active.
Hope this helps!!

Sorry i missed the bit about syncing your calendar! Damn Eyes!!!
Will.
in Activesync 4.5 beta, under connection settings you can choose, "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop".
Maybe this would help?

using gprs/umts while USB connected

Hi,
Is there a way, to only use GPRS/UMTS connection while the device is connected via USB? When I'm connected via USB, my Hermes tries to use the ActiveSync connection for Internet, which won't work (company proxy), so I want to have UMTS connection, but still be able to remote-control via USB...
mine use gprs when i choose my isp in settings->connections->connections-Advanced-select network
even when connected to activesync
hm, I have for both settings there "E-Plus Internet", i.e. my provider... still it doesn't connect. As soon as I disconnect USB, it works.
then i would try unchecking enable advanced network functionality
in usb to pc in connections
still the same... doesn't connect

On the PC head into ActiveSync, open up the Connection Settings for the device in question, try unchecking "Allow data connections on device when connected to PC".
Disconnect the device from USB, then reconnect and sync, then try to access the internet on the device.
hm, I thought exactly that option should be checked, because it says "allow wireless connections while connected to the PC". Nonetheless, I unchecked it, dis-/reconnected it, still no go.
Is this because you dont have the net on your PC?
Maybe your provider doesn't allow tethering. I.e. using the phones internet connection whilst connected to the pc.
You can use PDAnet ,download trial from here
http://software.palminfocenter.com/product.asp?id=4237
this will allow you to use the internet whilst connected to the pc, but this will also mean the pc can also use the internet of the phone, i am not sure if this is exactly what you want, as you dont indicate the reason why you want to be able to connect to the net on the device. Anyway using PDAnet, you will still be able to sync, browse and use the device as you normally would, as well as access the internet on the PPC and PC.

There is internet on the PC, though behind a proxy with auth (and some blocked stuff). Since the proxy auth isn't RFC conform it seems, using the internet connection on the phone doesn't work with most programs (i.e. weather updates), some programs even don't have a proxy option (and the one from "connections" doesn't work either). That's why I want the phone to connect itself by UMTS, while I still can remotecontrol it with PocketController. As everybody already said, it should be possible.

mh, the PC shouldn't use the phone as modem, that would violate the security restrictions here badly. I'll try PDAnet and see if I can restrict that.
Edit: PDANet also can't connect. could it be possible, that it is some Windows policy on the Desktop preventing that?
Can you turn Data Connection off in CommManager on the PDA?

hm, not really....
I am interested in this as well.
I have the Titan (Sprint Mogul) and would like to be able to connect it to my work computer VIA USB and be able to charge the phone and control it via MyMobiler but the phone should use its EVDO cellular connection for the internet. Instead it appears to use the internet that my work computer has which blocks certain sites and ports for IMAP and POP.
I would like the phone to be able to check gmail (via IMAP) as well as go to any website I would like.

How to force program visit internet through active sync 4.5 when connected to pc

Hi
I'm using WM6.1 on my Dopod D600(HTC P3400), when I connect to my laptop, the IE can visit internet through my laptop, but opera and google map will try to connect by GPRS instead of active sync.
Could anyone tell me how to force program visit internet though my laptop?
Cheers
Anyone have any idea?

Thank you for your reply, but I can't see any option relate to USB connection
the dropdownbox's should have items like
my isp or whatever your gprs connection is called on your device
my network or something like that as this too varies
is activesync network as in usb connection or bluetooth connection
and the likes
of cause it can only be used while the device is connected to activesync

My Work Network
MY ISP
which one should I choose?

I checked the settings, and found it's always unchecked.
