For some strange reason my Windows Live stops syncing with my hotmail account after a while. Every time it happens I seem to have to re-set up my hotmail account details for it to work again. A re-boot of the phone doesn't make a difference.
Looking at the "sync status" it shows me that it is attempting to sync every 15 minutes like I set it up to, but from the "last synchronised" I can see that it's not syncing.
Anyone else have the same issue?

I do not take credit for this, this was from another forum. Make sure you set it up correctly.
http://www.htchd2forum.com/how-to/how-to-set-up-a-hotmail-co-uk-or-multiple-accounts/
1. Click your "start" button to go to windows mobile
2. Select the "e-mail" icon
3. Select the "setup e-mail" option
4. In the email field write your email but replace the "[email protected]" with "[email protected]", this way the OS is not going to load Windows live messenger to sync your email.
5. Enter your password and select the "save password" option...click next
6. Disable the option "Try to get e-mail settings..."...click next
7. Select the email provider from drop down box, in this case, Internet e-mail....click next
8. Complete the name and account display name...click next
9. For Incoming server, type in "pop3.live.com:995" and for Account from drop down box, select "POP3"...click next
10. Complete the form with your username and password. Note: the username is your full e-mail address: "[email protected]" and not "yourusername".
11. Select the "save password" option...click next
12. For the Outgoing mail server, type in "smtp.live.com:25". Check the box for "outgoing server requires au...".
13. Click on Advanced settings link at bottom of screen and check both boxes "Require SSL..." for incoming and outgoing e-mail...click done...then click next
14. Complete the rest of the setup to how often you want e-mail checked...click next
15. Now, click the "start" button...select "e-mail" icon . Selct your email account.
16. Now select "menu" and go to Tools > Options, once there, click on the email account you just created and click on "Edit account setup link.
17. Replace the "[email protected]" with the right one "[email protected]" and hit "next " button to scroll through until the end...select finish and you are done!

Can someone tell me how to delete an Outlook email message on my handheld (mogul) without having it delete the same message on the exchange server? My blackberry would prompt me to delete on handheld, or both, which was an option I would like to have. Thanks

When you configure an Outlook or Email account on your phone there is a setting by the end of the configuration that specifies if you want to delete the message from the server or to leave it intact.
You can edit these settings by going into options on the main menu of your messaging screen. Edit your email account. Go through the settings and when you get to the screen with the [Automatic: Send/Receive] [Download Messages]. There is a link at the bottom saying Advanced Settings, click on it. Whithin this menu there is a scroll down option that allows you to either delete the message off the server or to keep it on the server. chose the one you want. Then save your setup.

Thanks for your reply Carlos. The options that you mentioned are available for my POP3 email account settings, but are not available when I enter the options for my Outlook email account. Thanks

Hmm my last gues would be that when you go into the outlook settings on your phone chose only to download the header or a small portion of the email that way it keeps the orginal / full message on the server. That is weird because I delete my email from outlook on my phone and it doesnt delete it from the server unless i go into outlook on my comp and once i delete it from there it will delete it from my phone once I sync.
Why not use IMAP?
I have found IMAP works a lot better then POP or any other feature. It's like a mirror image of looking at your email. Now with google supporting IMAP it's a nice token.

That's right, but with imap account you have to select too in: "option -> stockage [TAB] -> emptied delete folder: immediately".
Otherwise, messages will not be deleted from your computer.
It appears to me that if you are using exchange activesync, then you get exactly what is on the exchange server in the inbox.
I have set up some folders to help keep my PDA inbox uncluttered.
No cords, No 3rd party applications, No Hassle!
Windows Mobile -> G1
1. Backup your WM contacts. I recommend using PIM backup to do this.
2. Open up Active Sync (i was using v4.5)
3. Press "set up your device to sync with it" (for exchange server).
4. type your gmail login ([email protected]).
5. Uncheck "Attempt to detect Exchage Server setting automatically"
6. Next
7. type m.google.com as the server address.
8. Check the SSL option.
9. Next
10. User name should be your gmail login, add "@gmail.com" to the end of it.
11. Enter you gmail password.
12. Domain textbox should be disabled and empty...if not then you need to repeat step 10.
11. Next
12. Uncheck everything except contacts and calendar (of course these are optional)
13. Finish
14. Let Microsoft Exchange sync.
15. Login to your gmail account and click contacts (left column under mail folders) and you should have your contacts there.
16. This should automatically sync to your G1 (assuming that your are using the same google account)
Done!
iPhone -> G1
Setting up the sync will erase your contacts!! (in other words...DO STEP 1!)
Req: Firmware 2.2+
1. Backup your contacts to your itunes/computer.
2. If you are using a mac make sure that "syncronize with google is off".
3. Open settings.
4. Open "mail, contacts, calendar".
5. Add an account -> Microsoft Exchange.
6. For email enter your gmail login (can be anything).
7. Leave the Domain field empty.
8. For username type your gmail/google account login ([email protected])
9. For password type in your gmail password.
10. Next
11. Enter m.google.com for server.
12. Next
13. Unselect everything except contacts and calendar (of course these are optional).
14. Press sync.
15. Press sync again.
16. Let the iphone finish syncing.
17. Login to your gmail account and click contacts (left column under mail folders) and you should have your contacts there.
18. This should automatically sync to your G1 (assuming that your are using the same google account)
Done!
To move my WinMo caontacts over, I did this (fairly painless):
1) export Contacts via Outlook as CSV;
2) upload Contacts.csv to GMail/Contacts;
3) clean up the items I didn't want/need on my phone.
These aren't constantly synced, but everything is all moved over, no problem.

I guess you could do that too if you didnt want to sync
thank you my friend you saved me!!!
you can try funambol
easy as hell
My TP2 e-mail settings allow me to leave the message on the server (POP3) when I delete them from the phone. However, my HD2 doesn't have such a setting as far as I can see. Anyone know how to do this? I also posted this question in the T-Mo support forum, but haven't heard anything.... This is very important to me, and if indeed there is no such setting on the HD2, I will return the phone.
This is for pop3 or imap but don't know how it is for exhange server etc.
Inbox>
menu>tools>options....
then select the account you want to "edit"
then select edit account setup>next>next>next>next>next
how ever many "next" it takes to get to Automatic Send/Receive and on bottom of the screen is "Advanced Settings"
that is where the option you are looking for is.
That is how it is on my phone anyway.
Good luck
I posted this yesterday for you on the T-Mo site:
Start key> Email>Menu>Options> select email account >Edit Account Setup>click Next 5 times, then Advanced Settings. The next screen will let you select whether to delete them from the server or move them to server trash. I have all of my email accounts set to delete them from server and when I delete emails, I do a Send/Receiver and have had no problems with my emails deleting. If I have it set to move to server trash, it leaves them on the server.
you can skip about 5 button presses by just selecting send/receive schedule rather than Edit Account Setup. From Send/Receive menu select Advanced Settings and you just arrived at the same point.
True, but I thought perhaps there were other options that the poster might also want to change or review. But your way is the most direct.
I've recently got CyanogenMod 6 working on my Magic, and I have one problem that is bugging me...
I haven't been able to create my POP3 email account, as it keeps forcing close once I complete the final step. Very annoying!
I go through these steps:
In Email app...
1. Press Menu > Add account.
2. Enter Email address and Password. Tick to Send email from this account by default. Press Next.
3. Select POP3.
4. Enter Username, Password, Port, POP3 server, Security type (none), Delete from server (when I delete from inbox). Press Next.
5. Enter SMTP server, Port (25), Security type (none), untick Require sign-in. Press Next.
6. Change check frequency to never, leave both Send email from this account by default and Notify when email arrives ticked. Press Next.
--Now I know the details I enter are correct as it won't let you progress otherwise. This next step is the one where it always forces close--
7. I see a folder icon, and next to that "Sample Account Name" Then three sliders for colours, red green and blue. I sometimes try changing colours, sometimes leaving on 0. Press Next.
--"Sorry! the application Email (process com.android.email) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
Anyone have any suggestions?
Problem solved. I'm using K-9 instead of the stock email app.
Hi. When trying to configure Gmail on my WM 6.5 device, it automatically chooses the IMAP mode which leaves me only with the options:
=> Once the messages deleted from the phone:
1 - Delete them from the server
2 - Put them in server's bin
(3 - Keep them in the Inbox doesn't exist).
I actually don't want any action to take place (once some messages deleted), cause it doesnt mean if a message is too heavy or unneeded to keep on the phone that i want it to be deleted completely. Thats completely absurd and a major unexpected drawback on WM 6.5. Yet, i can't get the option to configure my Gmail as POP, to avoid this problem. In the same time i can configure mailboxes on other servers as POP and get the right options. Those are servers that WM 6.5 doesnt have pre-loaded settings for (meaning all mainstream servers fall under the IMAP rule). I just dont see why for Gmail the system forces you to select IMAP with those restrictive useless options. I tried deactivating IMAP in my mailbox but it doesn't change anything. Im sick of that.
What the issue is here about? Is there any patch for this problem which i consider to be really serious?
Thank you.
To bypass Windows Mobile's bullheaded insistance on choosing Imap for gmail, yahoo, etc email accounts:
When you do Menu-->Tools-->"New Account" DO NOT enter a gmail or yahoo email address on the first E-mail Setup page. Just use [email protected] for the address, enter your real password, hit next.
Next screen has "Try to get e-mail settings automatically from the internet". This is what you are looking for. Uncheck the box and hit next.
Choose "Custom Domain" for your e-mail provider. Hit next.
Enter foobar (or anything actually) for E-mail Provider Domain. Hit next.
Now you can fix things up and enter relevant data on following screens. It will let you set your incoming and outgoing servers and choose pop or imap. Just make sure to correct any entries where it used the earlier bogus data you fed it to fill things in (like the user name)
Be sure to fill in "Display name" exactly the way you want it to appear in pocket outlook - it CAN NOT be changed after you create the new account. If you mess that up you have to start over from scratch, and any emails already downloaded in that account will be deleted from the device.
Works on HTC Tilt2 (AT&T) w/ stock WM6.5
