That article doesn't say a thing about it being for euro hero only? In fact it doesn't mention the Hero at all. Just because Google officially releases 2.1 doesn't mean it's HTC ready.
Ooops, guess you're right.
I just found this, any credibility here?
http://www.neowin.net/news/sprints-htc-evo-4g-will-run-froyo
i highly doubt this ! how come they updated the sense ui for the froyo release so early when it took the too much time for eclair ?
i think its true. with current versions of android not supporting front cameras, hdmi out, or 4g they would have to be running an updated version

That doesn't necessarily mean froyo. 1.5 doesn't support CDMA yet both the Hero and the Samsung Moment have 1.5... All they have to do is hack support for those features into their version of 2.1. Doesn't rule out 2.2, but i doubt it.
But it is true that Google is pushing out Android development a lot faster than manufacturers are able to customize their phones with it. Plus Google and HTC are in bed together.
I remember these days.....
nice bump!!! can't believe they got it done. Really, what is this; Feb. 2011 or something?
Holy old post...remove
Omg good times
Swyped from mah synergy evo!
Wow, this is a pointless thread to bring back, but it is nostalgic.
I was at Flashcamp yesterday at Adobe. Here's what I learned:
Flash Player will run on any handset with FroYo. Both should be available in May. FP is hardware-optimized when possible, hence the dependancy on FroYo.
Bowler Hat's GridShock was being demoed on a Droid as a native APK (just like the iPhone Packager). I forgot to check the Android version, but it felt slightly laggy.
I think I heard AIR (the Android Packager) should ship around September.
Awesome Android devices will ship this year, including tablets.
What version number will FroYo get? Are you serious, May? I seriously doubt that FroYo will be released in May...
I heard Fro-Yo is Android 2.3. They publicly stated that Flash Player 10.1 will run on any phone with Fro-Yo, and that there will be a public build available in May. They did give the caveat concerning the availability of Fro-Yo on devices, so I don't know what the Android timetable is.
I'm mainly posting this info here so the ROM chefs can start thinking about an AOSP build of Fro-Yo, so we'll be able to run Flash content on a mobile device in May.

i can't remember when AOSP 2.1 was released but its at least 6 months now. i also doubt it will be May, but would be pleasantly surprised if it was.

As I wrote somewhere, there are already some simple checks for Froyo in Google Maps This doesn't mean we will have it soon, but we can at least hope for that
Look it up:

We should focus on developping the 2.2 ROM when the source will be ready and leave 2.1 behind!!!
the sdk is out. Does anyone know when the source is going to be available to start compiling
ohh yeeah !
Hope Android 2.2 come fast on our tattoo.
As a former Windows Mobile fan I made the switch to Android because it looked like the way forward due to the amount of interest it had generated.
I wouldnt hold my breath for Android 2.1 never mind 2.2. HTC are too concerned with making money from releasing new handsets to worry about upgrading old ones. I have never known an OS to be so quickly discarded for a new version, with no update for older ones. At least Windows Mobile has pretty contant update (some were quite buggy, but at least they were there).
Hats off to the dev's who are trying to get it working on their own. I fear they are going to be our only hope with an upgrade.
I've never wanted to be proved wrong as much...................
I read on the German news that HTC will update all their Smartphones they released in 2010 (Droid Incredible, Desire, etc.)!!!! Since our Tattoo is 2009 we can forget getting any support from them. We have to support our devs to get decent results in ROM development...:/
It's true, the chance that the Tattoo will get a Froyo update is practically unexistent. It isn't even confirmed for all 2010 phones.
Source: engadget.com/2010/05/21/htc-most-phones-launched-in-2010-will-get-android-2-2/
I'm still hoping that HTC will release a 2.1 update for the Tattoo somewhere in June. If they don't do it in June, they never will.
Hallo! i have heard allot of rumours that legend won't be getting froyo
is it true?
like you said they are rumours.
just wait. think there will soon be more info from htc when the first 2.2 phones are released.
the rumours are indeed very iffy
I honestly just posted an entire rant last night about this, allow me to quote myself...

Well I've heard multiple times before this that customer service reps from htc have also confirmed the update to froyo for the legend. The most recent being an email from a customer service rep stating that the user fear not about his flash playing troubles because android 2.2 and incidentally flash 10.1 would be released for the htc legend within the next 2 weeks.
Follow this up by the recent release of flash 10.1 for android 2.2 and the release of the android 2.2 source code being released today the statement of "within the next 2 weeks" seem to be exactly what is happening. Not only is android 2.2 pretty much here but will be available sooner rather then later. To add further flame to the fire htc repeatedly said android 2.2 will be supported by almost all 2010 devices and with the desire being more widely available and more powerful it is more likely to be put in with definite android 2.2 compatible even though the desire and legend get almost always get updates at the same time.
The most likely reason the statement was pulled? Well it must simply be due to google not publishing the source code yet, thus letting people essentially know froyo is ready.
Htc most certainly can't pull the plug on 2.2 before google itself does. But! Now that it has published final froyo source code it is 99.9% done and is most likely waiting to be uploaded to the server.
My uneducated guess is that we'll see froyo on the legend by mid july at the latest.
Also not sure if anyone thought of this, but bell (and indirectly virgin mobile canada) are not stupid companies. They are introducing a new android phone and thus throwing massive amounts of ad $ and marketing into it, from both bell/virgin AND htc itself. Remember this is virgins FIRST android set and bells 4th or 5th, they would most likely have talked to htc to make sure the device is upgradeable to the newest android. They just started selling it, they aren't going to allow it to be out dated within the month its released! If the did it would be a waste on advertising and a waste of introducing a new phone.
That's just my 2 cents, but it seems very logical to me, how about you?

Soo yeah that's my 2 cents, but it seems reasonable if you ask me.
Aaaand lastly, there's a guy currently working on porting froyo over and you can follow it at this thread in the forum, here's the link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709078
Just to throw some fuel in the fire, check out this link
The Flash Player 10.1 can be availed as a final production release for smartphones and tablets as soon as users can upgrade to Android 2.2 “Froyo”. Handsets which are anticipated to support “Froyo” and Flash Player 10.1 include Google Nexus One, HTC Evo, HTC Desire, HTC Incredible, Dell Streak, Samsung Galaxy S, DROID by Motorola, Motorola Milestone and more.

Adobe didn't state HTC Legend on their supported devices list...could this mean no 2.2 for Legend? or Is HTC dumbing down 2.2 for Legend as they did with 2.1?
If 2.2 is dumbed down for Legend, it better have WiFi hotspot as a stock 2.2 rom would have, or I am going to be one pissed off long legged puerto rican!
